Hello all! Thanks for joining us, and welcome to the BeansTalk - Travel Podcast. We are home at last, and this episode documents the long journey getting us here. It started at the beginning of February in Thailand, then on to Prague, with ending our journey in London. Meeting up with old friends, enjoying some impromptu tattoo appointments, and getting pretty tired of hostel-life, we finally made it home to little old Boise, Idaho. We'll update you on what we've been doing since back, how the transition is going, and what plans we have for the future. Enjoy! We will be posting past-casts from here on out for a while. We still have plenty of travel stories to tell, so get ready to hear them all. As always, thanks for listening. Talk to you all again next time! -The Beans . . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
Hostile in hostels, semi-floating markets, overstayed visas, nose-rape with "Bro-derant", 20+hour travel days, the wonders of the "Bum-Gun", and slowly making their way home. What's in-store in this brand new episode. See you all again next time! -The Beans . . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
The Beans are back in Bangkok and dishing out another past cast in the park! Having recently left the cooler temps of Hanoi, Vietnam, the Beans are trying to get used to the warmer temps and humidity of Bangkok, while still attempting to shake recent head colds acquired in Vietnam. This episode rehashes their first experience touching down in Cambodia, still accompanied by M&M. It’s all about first impressions, time spent visiting the massive jungle temple complex of Angkor Wat, and some unpleasant realizations of a wallet gone missing. There’s a lot of distractions as usual recording in a popular public park, including monitor lizards, annoying tourists, and local birds. Thanks again so very much for tuning in and listening! Be sure to like, comment, share and subscribe to not miss a moment. See you all again next time! -The Beans . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
The Beans are still in Vietnam and have recently finished up with Whits root canal appointments (finally!!). They go over some big ideas for their future, as well as the recent happenings since the last episode. With a lot of downtime in Hanoi, it’s making for exciting times organizing the plans just ahead of them, and for this upcoming year. We hope you all had a great holiday season, and we wish you all the best for 2019! Thanks again so very much for tuning in and listening! In this past-cast episode, the Beans, along with M&M, make their way by plane to the northern Thailand city of Chiang Mai. This episode includes temples, elephants, jungle zip-lining, hikes, killer food, night markets, heaps of exploring, full body massages, hornet stings, as well as meeting up with a close friend of Karl’s from his hometown. And of course, a hefty amount of silliness. Thanks again so very much for tuning in and listening! Be sure to like, comment, share and subscribe to not miss a moment. This week's podcast gets a bit on the giggly side, so prepare for the laughs. WARNING: Almost peed myself a couple times while editing. We made it to Hoi An (not to be confused with Hanoi), and are enjoying all the sights, sounds, and fresh air...besides the farts. We got lucky again with being able to experience another lantern festival and enjoyed taking lots of photos in this city's old town, some of those photos were candid. Bicycle rides, western markets, bull's balls, interesting roadkill, and talking about tourists. Those are just a few topics discussed this week, but there's plenty more. Have a listen, and let us know what you think. Comments, reviews, sharing, and subscribing helps our show stay up and running. . . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
This episode the Beans actually touchback on their original long distance trip and leave where they last left off. . . Koh Phi Phi, Thailand, following their wild story from monkey beach! While amidst a very bustling trip to the lake in Hanoi, where there are plenty of distractions, they try desperately to complete this story and keep it together. Rats, Duck-Dogs, men fishing, and more park-aerobics, all make for a very eventful and hilarious episode. They conclude their visit to Koh Phi Phi, and team back up with M&M, to spend a couple amazing days on the island of Koh Lanta. Renting motorbikes for the first time, dodging monkeys, exploring caves, and kayaking trial and errors, are just some of the topics this week. Thanks again so very much for tuning in and listening! Be sure to like, comment, share and subscribe to not miss a moment. See you all again next time! -The Beans . . . This week the Beans talk about recently arriving in Hanoi, Vietnam. They are currently dealing with crazy traffic, going to the dentist, big city smells, haggling over prices, having some unexpected downtime, and being away from family during the holidays. There is another random encounter with bumping into their traveling friend Charlotte. Thanks so much for joining in on the adventure once again. We will keep you posted on our upcoming travel plans, as well as let you know how the dentist visits have been going. -The Beans ..Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
Hello there! Welcome back to Thailand! While traveling with us this week be sure to put on a helmet, because you're in for quite the ride. We talk about getting into a little motorbike/scooter accident, and how we've been coping with that while in one of our favorite locations. Listen to our tales about riding the train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. We also meet up with some friends of ours for Loy Krathong (a world famous lantern festival) in Chiang Mai. Lots of wonderful eats, and letting you in on our upcoming travel plans. Thanks so much for listening! Subscribe if you want to receive updates or automatically download new episodes. Our Beans try catching up on some things we may or may not have forgotten to talk about. What we've been enjoying about this visit to Bangkok, food and more wandering around. Seeing this city with a new openminded perspective, and enjoying not having expectations while traveling. The park starts getting a little bit crazy after hours and makes you feel as if you are along to experience the wonderful chaotic energy that comes along with traveling to South East Asia. Enjoy the episode, and please feel free to follow up with any questions you may have, or let us know where you're listening to these. Going to be traveling in the S.E. Asia area and want to meet up, feel free to drop us a line. Contact us through our website: trailofbeans.com or just shoot us an email at trailofbeans@gmail.com Thanks for listening! - Whit & Karl "The Beans" ...Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free MusicArchive) Thanks guys!
Obviously sleep deprived, caffeine deficient, and in need of a proper night's rest, our two Bean's catch you up on how exhausting overseas travel can be. We swear we will be more awake in the next episode.
Alright, here is the second act. Pretty fricken tired at this point.
And we travel... to where? You will have to tune in to find out.
Witamy to Poland!! We get a bit delirious in this late night episode as we start getting obviously tired, while knowing well that our early-A.F. flight to Budapest is just hours away. While giggling a lot we discuss our time in Kraków eating our boredom away, and playing loads of pinball while keeping it real chill. Wrocław was a brand new city to us, and we had loads of fun exploring it and encountering various "Gnomies" hiding throughout the city. Meeting a nice Slovenian, and never experiencing a bad meal were just some of what made our visit to Wrocław so memorable. Last city in Poland was Warsaw, and it treated us with the craziest night of all. Ania, another Camiga, was nice enough to come meet up with us, and introduced us to several of her buddies who took us out on the town to show us how to party in true "Polish-Wedding-Party" fashion. You might laugh a little while listening to this episode, we sure did while recording it. Thanks so much for listening!
After a bit of a social media hiatus, the Beans are back with another episode, highlighting the recent events of their travels throughout Europe. Feeling a bit spoiled, with seemingly non stop time with various family and/or friends along the way, our traveling duo wanted to soak up as much quality time as possible with the loved ones that joined them on the travel trail. Now the Beans are back to traveling solely as a couple, and have high hopes of keeping up on the podcast. So stay tuned for more travel tales! Thanks so much for listening and tuning in!
We are back!! Exhausted and reflecting Back on our Camino journey, we sit in Santiago Cathedral's bustling plaza and let you know what we've been going through, and a little bit about where we are heading next. Sorry it's been a bit, but listening to this will clue you in on a little bit of why we had taken our brief hiatus. Love you all, and thanks so much for listening!
We get just a bit crazy in this podcast as we recap the last week and a half of walking the Camino del Norte. From Güemes to Muros de Nalón, we cover highlights of staying in Pendueles, and finally meeting our Camigo Family. As we avoid sleep, as well as falling apples, listen to these two Beans as they recap "where they are at, and what they are doing". We love and miss you all, and will be back with another a.s.a.p.
We are in much better spirits today, after having checked into an amazing albergue. We were fed, we washed, have had the whole afternoon to relax, have amazing wifi, and are so pleased that our bodies are finally getting used to walking all day everyday. Today we completed day 12, only 25 or so more to go. Whoop!! Whoop!!
As you can tell by this recording we are extremely tired, and need sleep. That is what we will do now. Talk to you soon when we are not so sleepy.
This week is a shorter episode, as the Beans are in their final days of preparing for their next adventure and leaving the country long term once again. With all the craziness in their remaining days, Whit and Karl go over where they are at emotionally and physically with their busy schedules, and what's left on their to-do list as well as trying to cram in as much quality time as possible with family and loved ones. Thanks again so very much for tuning in and listening! Be sure to like, comment, share and subscribe to not miss a moment. See you all again next week! . . -The Beans…Intro/Outro by “Shake That Little Foot” - “Pretty Little Dog” (used through Free Music Archive). Thanks guys!
The craziness doesn’t stop as the Beans continue their adventures traveling around Thailand! Whit and Karl momentarily separate from M&M, who decide to stay an extra day in Phuket, and our beloved Beans make their way to the tropical island paradise of Koh Phi Phi. The beginning of their day involves a streak of good luck and honest generosity, much unlike the previous day experienced by our traveling team. It, unfortunately, all takes a turn in a matter of seconds, and the Beans release one of their favorite travel stories, involving a day at the beach and a pack of furry jungle pirates.
The Beans are back again! This week will cover our duo, along with M & M (Karl’s younger brother Martin and his girlfriend Megan), making their way from Bangkok to Koh Pha Ngan to witness the craziness that is the Full Moon Party, and afterward (eventually) to Phuket. There is a vast array of transportation taken and new forms of scams and tricks presented to our traveling team. It’s everyone’s first experience being on a tropical island, and there are long nights with stretches of time involving little sleep. The section in this timeline definitely takes a toll on everyone and pushes our friends’ level of patience to the limit. They ultimately persevere and make their way to the coastal city of Phuket, but are forever changed. There are heaps of giggles and fun recollecting crazy events and memories being hot and tired in humid foreign lands. Thanks again so very much for tuning in and listening! Be sure to like, comment, share and subscribe to not miss a moment. See you all again nextweek! -The Beans...Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free MusicArchive) Thanks guys!
Hey there everyone! We've got our first-ever "Baby-sode"...which means that it's a lot shorter than all our other episodes. It will be taking the place of our upcoming full-length episode that is usually published every Friday. We are going to be attending M & M's (Karl's Brother Martin and his fiancé Megan) wedding this coming Saturday, and are going to be traveling to Stanley Idaho to partake in all the festivities. Can I get-a-Whoop!? So, I figured that we could put out a little update episode. We are gearing up for our next big adventure, and are trying to get all our ducks in a row to do so. Karl is currently in New York, and on his way back to Boise, so it's just one "Bean" in today's Pod...cast episode. Hope you enjoy all the upcoming adventures discussed by myself and are getting as excited as we are for all the travels yet to come. It's quite the lifestyle shift, and even though we've done it before, it's never easy to just pack up and go...at least we're finding out on our second go-round. Thanks again for listening each week, and please feel free to contact us for any questions, suggestions, or thoughts that you have. We'll talk to you next time, where we'll be getting back to our adventures with M & M while traveling south in Thailand to the "Koh's" (Islands). Feel free to comment, share, subscribe, and check out any of our other social media's: FB/Insta/YouTube
Y'all Ready for this!? The Beans are back with more crazy stories from their time spent in Bangkok. They are awaiting M & M's arrival and familiarizing themselves with the city by getting around mostly on foot. They spend some time with locals, old friends, and family once they arrive. In this episode, you'll hear; all about how to get around the city, and which might be the best way for your ideal budget, what unique fruits and street foods this city has to offer, and what are some must-do's to say you've truly experienced Bangkok. Eat some bugs, drink some crazy bucket concoctions, avoid scams, find some good eats, wander the streets, dodge taxis, and laugh at some hilarities that come along with this extremely colorful portrait that we paint of our time spent in the heart of Thailand's Capitol. Please feel free to send us some emails or FB messages if you'd like to ask us any questions, or would like to meet up with us on our upcoming journey overseas. Comment, share, subscribe and check out our website if you'd like to help support the show. Take care, and thanks for listening. We'll talk with you next time. . . . Welcome back travel comrades! Join us this week as we make the long jaunt over to the land of smiles. . . Thailand! This week the Beans arrive in Bangkok and are met head-on with all its crazy-ness. Culture shock and stimulation overload ensue shortly after they touch down on the new continent, and our duo’s travel skills are put to the test on an entirely different level as they are introduced to such a foreign and new way of life. But going with your gut and being aware of your surroundings helps the Beans adapt to confronting new encounters and conflicts in this unfamiliar locale. So turn up the heat and enjoy another listen as our friends tackle more uncomfortable situations and witness unsettling events on the Bean trail that include a “culture shock inception”, heat waves, shower beers, travel funk, sad little stomach elves, sexy chopsticks, little frog women, a/c thieves, and who the hell is Blotus? Thanks again so very much for tuning in and listening! Be sure to like, comment, share and subscribe to not miss a moment. See you all again next week! . . . The Beans are back again, and this week covers their remaining time in Montenegro! There are more lazy sun-filled days of relaxing along the beautiful Adriatic coastline, as our traveling couple continues to fill their need of travel reprieve. They make their way full circle and end up back to the city they arrived in a month prior, Tivat. This episode includes nippy fish, beers before noon, labyrinth villages, more defecating children, ritzy areas, lots of exploring and secret paths, walled old towns, quirky clubs, stunning views, and of course, heaps of chuckles and funny moments. So sit back, relax, and enjoy more travel tales from the Bean Trail! Thanks again so very much for tuning in and listening! Be sure to like, comment, share and subscribe to not miss a moment. See you all again next week! . . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
Welcome back to another episode, where our traveling Beans are introduced to country number 6. . . Montenegro! With our duo's pace of travel becoming exhausting and needing a reprieve from the always-on-the-go, they sum up their basic demands of finding somewhere that can offer sun, sand, and is easier on the wallet. Montenegro fit the description, and with the Beans now in their third month of traveling abroad, they head to the Montenegrin coast along the beautiful Adriatic Sea to relax and slow things down a bit. They book out 5 nights in 5 cities and work their way up the coast heading back and coming full circle to the airport they arrive at. In this episode, we cover the first 2 cities visited and experience a serious language barrier, a run down 70's hotel stay, the thickest of Turkish coffee, massive meat platters, bloody mattresses, urinating/defecating children, Montenegrin Madonna, co-coro's and chara-churra, Peruvian flute Wonderwall, and much more!
Welcome back to another episode involving the Beans continuing their adventures and returning to England! We stop over at a couple new cities during our second visit and meet up with some familiar faces from the Camino. There's a quirky hostel which makes a unique but lasting impression due to coffin and bowl beds, among a list of other reasons, which are at the time collectively and unknowingly transitioning our Beans' brains to hostel life abroad. New experiences are had by staying in a Muslim area, giving a different vibe and flavor to Ye Olde Towne of London, where our fellow Beans experience some new culture, LATE nightlife, some delicious Egyptian food, and a long line of hookah bars. We also take a trip down memory lane with a visit to an 80's pub and are entertained by a group of "geezy hens", and have a delightful lazy day getting wine drunk and watching "The Way". All this and more await you in this fun episode! Thank you all for joining in and listening to us retell our tales of life living out of a backpack. . . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
Come join the Beans as they re-live their remaining time in Ireland. They travel down to Cork and experience a quirky old-school hostel with a ridiculously powerful shower head, a spontaneous night out on the town, interactions with helpful locals and friendly Irish hospitality, castles, folklore and some of the dampest of "summer" days. They also make their way to Kilkenny and experience a haunted witch pub, poo-poo vents, middle of the night bus rides, getting emotional during a kids movie, unfortunate train transfers, and coming full circle back to London via Dublin. . . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
Get to know our Beans in this special edition interview episode. We wanted to allow you guys to get to know us a little better, so we thought of some good questions to ask one another for our first ever on-air interview. You'll find out about our introductions into traveling, what impacted us the most throughout our trails, and finally the breakdown "in a nutshell" where we went on our 18-month journey. What is our favorite; meals, flags, countries, moments, and all around experiences over the years. You'll also find out a little bit more about our upcoming travel plans, and how "spazzily giddy" we are in our days of "counting down the sleeps" until we hit the road again. Hope you enjoy the episode everyone. Be sure to give us some feedback if you would like to help support the show. Have an amazing week! . . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
Travel along with The Beans this week as they make their way to the Emerald Isle. . . Ireland! This episode covers their eventful introduction to the new country, which includes pints of Guinness, drunken old ladies, a moldy tent, witnessing an RV go up in flames, boozy tours, too much "Who let the dogs out?", Po-Po pub crawls, "The Cliffs of Insanity!", a sweater-wearing solo weenie dog. . . and more! Thanks again so much for tuning in and listening to another episode covering these two Beans' travel tales! We'll be back again next week for more stories during their stay in this beautiful country, so stay tuned! . . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
Pack your bags and travel along with The Beans this week as they make their way to London! High hopes of a milder climate were met as they about-face and spontaneously spin the dial of their travel compass in the opposite direction. They find a favorite pub, with charmingly quirky characters and lively old locals. There's tons of sightseeing and exploring the city to be had as well as reconnecting with a few "Camigos". The exchange rate and introduction of British currency put our traveling duos' budget skills to the ultimate test and while multiple forewarnings of a rough and crude mentality of the general public, The Beans' interaction with the locals couldn't have been more opposite. They please their palates with some dishes served from a couple of hidden gems, all the while accruing absolutely zero bug bites during their stay. So put the kettle on, or pour your favorite pint, and join our friends as they experience their first go in the United Kingdom! Thank you so much for listening, and be sure to tune in next week as The Bean Trail crosses the Irish Sea via bus, train and ferry landing these two in Ireland! . . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
This week our beloved beans make their way to Portugal, the third country thus far. They experience some unexpected uniforms and k-9s while border crossing on the train. Their first stop is the quirky and vibrant port city of Porto, which is compared to San Francisco with its vibes. There are trollies, hills, narrow streets, seafood, and kids dressed like they're heading to Hogwarts. Karl gets offered drugs several times, and is learning how to be firm with his "NO!". We learn about service etiquette and their tipping culture. Lisbon brings with it a completely different vibe and fulfills our deepest foodie-desires. This might be our funniest episode yet, so get ready to laugh...if you don't chuckle aloud at least once or twice, you might want to get your noggin' looked at. We hope you enjoy the episode, and be sure to like, comment, leave a review, share, or subscribe to download new episodes each week. Next week: We'll be heading to London and Ireland. Thanks so much for listening!! . . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!

Created: 04/13/2018 HELLO ALL!! This week's episode will make you laugh, cry, and possibly cringe. We deal with quite a lot while walking into Santiago, which is the "finish line" for most pilgrims while walking this trail. Karl did an unexpected night hike, which was filled with spiritually enlightened experiences, and had a hard time with missing his brother's wedding. Whitney broke down while being followed by lost kittens. Our walk into Santiago was tense and filled with unmet expectations. Whitney had a surreal moment with a butterfly that forced her to look at the journey as a whole, and not just Santiago as being the main focus and finish line of the pilgrimage. Having our entire Camino family back together again for one final hoorah of a meal was bittersweet. Please feel free to leave any feedback, or contact us if you would like. Check out our website www.trailofbeans.com or our FB page by searching @TheBeanTrail. Stay tuned for next week's episode where we complete our 43 day Camino experience in Muxia along the coast in beautiful Spain. Until then. Thanks for listening! . . . Created: 03/29/2018 Welcome back to the show folks! Thanks for joining us for the second half of episode 7, which initially ran a little long. You'll get to experience a lot of laughs this episode, while our delirium sets in towards the end of the long episode. You are along for the ride while we experience village after village the closer we get to Santiago. Get ready for; a mound of pooh, snorker-calls, tri-blister poppin', hairy assface man, gay marriage, and the "LSD enlightened" Mark, as best told by these two "Punks!". Hope you enjoy the show, and be sure to LIKE, COMMENT, SUBSCRIBE, and REVIEW us to help support our show. Thanks agian, and have an awesome week! We will be traveling this next week, so prepare yourself for some extra special treats on this next show. . . . Created: 03/23/2018 This week the Beans continue their journey along the Camino from León to Foncebadón. They will face some sketchy areas, creepy crawlers, window wars, more bed bugs, Spain’s very own “Prancing Pony”, and medieval meals. We are getting used to this talking thing, and we split the episode into two after realizing it ran a bit long. Make sure to check out next week's episode to follow up on the second half. Thanks for listening. Be sure to leave us some feedback with comments, reviews, and subscribe if you'd like to follow along. . . . They run into old friends, make new ones, and begin to establish their "Camino Family". Experience; walking through the eye of a storm, listening to the sweet song of a frog-bird, Roman roads, Dreamy Jesus, Whit's "Zom-poo-calypse" story, and of course, lots and lots of walking. . . . Created: 03/02/2018 This week The Beans talk about spending some time in St. Jean Pied-de-Port, where they start their pilgrimage across Spain. They experience pilgrim hostels (Albergues) for the first time, and have quite a quirky breakfast the morning they start the trail. Follow them along their journey up the Pyrenees, and their descent into Roncevalles where they sleep in a converted monastery, enjoying boiled weiners for dinner. They group up with some "Camigos", and walk into Pamplona to enjoy a stay with "Hermann the German" in his home confined by a set of very strict rules. Sneaking, vino, and heavenly hymns are in store for you while listening to the tales of this week's bean trail. Want to explore more of our travels? Created: 02/23/18 We're back with episode three, and making our way from Paris to the starting point of the Camino de Santiago in St. Jean Pied-de-Port, France. We came into some difficulties while visiting Bordeaux, and learned a lot of "what not to do's" while navigating our way to our next destination. There were; poops, rugby, Monsanto marches, shifty characters, and bull frogs. The sheer lack of energy due to sporadic sleep, left us running on empty leading up to the beginning of our 500+ mile pilgrimage across Spain. Not all travel is luxurious, which is testament to the change of lifestyle while backpacking on a budget. . . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
Welcome back to the BeansTalk podcast! Created: 02/16/18 This week Karl and Whit go over two weeks of traveling through Paris, sharing various tips and tricks, and how we found our bearings as first time travelers. Included are stories involving; scams, couch surfing, drunkers, favorite spots, meeting the locals, and experiencing the "last true punk pub" in Paris take it's final breath. . . . Intro/Outro tune by "Shake That Little Foot" - "Pretty Little Dog" (used through Free Music Archive) Thanks guys!
Welcome to the "BeansTalk" podcast. Created: 02/9/18 Hosted by Karl and Whitney who are avid travelers, and trail seekers. We took an 18 month long backpacking trip around the world: May 2015 - November 2016, and made some pretty sweet memories. We can't wait to talk all about our journey, and have lots tips, tricks, and hilarious tales to share with anyone who wants to listen. In this episode you will hear about how we had to prepare for our world trip, leaving behind our; family, friends, house, Jobs, Car, and most of our belongings. What sacrifices we had to make as far as; giving up any social life, not spending money on anything unnecessary, collecting gear needed, and mentally preparing to make the leap. We fly into Paris first, and give you an insight into the uncertainty of your first steps on such a big adventure. Hope you enjoy, and be sure to subscribe if you'd like to get updated with a new episode every Friday. . . .
