Simone Kearney is a Dublin-born, Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist and writer. She is interested in tracking the daily embodied experience of emotional and intellectual life, which she traces through repetition and variation, metaphor and materiality. Her practice is an inquiry — as much visual as it is psychological — into how experience is a cobbled, fragile thing, shapeshifting, subject to time, configured and reconfigured through our bodies. In recent projects, she has been working with hand-carved stone sculpture, watercolor, and text, to reflect states of self and collective consciousness, where the work starts to gather like archaeological fragments of the psyche. Kearney currently has a solo show of sculptures and works on paper entitled DIGS at Guest Gallery in Brooklyn, NY, on view from September 20th – November 8th. She also will have sculptures in a group exhibition at Koki Arts in Tokyo, Japan, this October. Some previous solo exhibitions include Putty's Coronation, Brooklyn, NY; Undercurrent Gallery, Brooklyn New York; Artshack Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; and Annex Gallery, Lighthouse Works, Fisher's Island, NY. She is a NYFA grant recipient and is the author of Dim, Dahlia, Violet, Stone, (ITI Press, 2024), DAYS, (Belladonna Press, 2021), and My Ida (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2017). In this episode, host Tawnya Bahr is joined by Sam Rayment and Liz Ferrone, the duo who swapped engineering and dietetics for life as regenerative farmers in Putty, New South Wales. From their first backyard aquaponics system in Redfern to raising pigs, cattle, and pasture-raised chickens on their farm, Sam and Liz share the steep learning curve, triumphs, and wild stories that come with building a business from the soil up. This isn’t just a conversation about farming—it’s about setting out to change the future of food. Episode Highlights How an engineer and a dietitian became regenerative farmers with no prior farming background The leap from Sydney city life to establishing Hillside Food Forest in Putty, NSW Why pigs, cattle, and pasture-raised chickens became the heart of their farming system The wild challenges of farm life: escaping pigs, chicken chaos, and floods Building confidence and quality through feedback from chefs at Carriageworks Farmers Market Scaling from small batches to supplying restaurants and wholesale with consistent, premium produce The role of freezing in ensuring quality, consistency, and nationwide distribution Collaborating with LP’s Quality Meats to create a smallgoods range Turning pork fat into value-added products: lard-based moisturisers and pet treats Why regenerative farming means transforming waste into resources Follow Hillside Food Forest:Instagram: @hillsidefoodforest Follow Straight To The Source Food Podcast:Instagram: @stts_podcast Follow Straight To The Source:Instagram: @straight_to_the_source Connect with your hosts: Tawnya Bahr Lucy Allon See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Last year, Patrick stepped behind the camera to executive produce Suburban Fury, a documentary about the attempted assassination of President Gerald Ford. With our last episode recapping MFCA 2025, your hosts—with help from Lou Masses and Dennis Levy—kicked up a bit of a hornet's nest by addressing a major recurring topic of discussion at the show and in our small section of the miniatures world in general: Should digital sculpting and 3D printing be judged differently than the “handmade/toothpick and putty” sculpts that have predominated in this odd art form of ours for the last five and a half decades?Okay, it was mainly Jim doing the kicking. But since he was in part recounting a long and thoughtful conversation in Pennsylvania with master-sculptor Alan Ball, first featured with his master-painter wife Marion on Episode 20 of our podcast, we invited Alan to come back to have the discussion in real time—“for the record,” so to speak, and sans paraphrasing. As always, he graciously and eloquently shared his thoughts and insights as one of the deepest thinkers about this passion we share. Now, when anyone talks about digital sculpting in the historical as opposed to the fantasy category of miniature figures today, the name Nello Rivieccio inevitably comes up. Based near Naples, he is as much of a master on Zbrush as he was for many years with a toothpick (or similar tool) and two-part epoxy putty. To be clear, we do not intend these dual chats as a Pro/Con, Point/Counterpoint pairing: Alan and Nello have as many areas of agreement with each other (and with your hosts) as they do differences. But since the conversation about the advent of digital sculpting is certain to be a major topic of conversation again at World Model Expo, we wanted to drop this epic episode with both of them at the same time, so folks can have their perspectives (and our own) in mind as they view the work on display in Versailles from July 4 to 6.

With that milestone approaching, we wanted to learn more about the organization behind the world's largest particle accelerator—the Large Hadron Collider. We'll discuss what CERN is and what their scientific pursuits mean. We'll also investigate some of the spiritual theories floating the Internet. For example, is CERN built on the site of Apollo's ancient temple? Why is there a statue of Shiva in front of the building? Are portals to other dimensions being opened? Even Elon Musk joked about the collider being demonic technology. So what's the truth? We're joined by Dr. Robert (Putty) Putman, who earned a Ph.D. in theoretical quantum mechanics before becoming a pastor and leader in the church. With a unique combination of physics expertise and spiritual insight, Putty will help us better understand this organization and the science behind the the Large Hadron Collider. Discovered in Utah County in 1960, Nutty Putty Cave quickly became a popular destination for amateur and professional cavers and spelunkers as a kind of bucket list cave of considerable difficulty. Despite its popularity, beginning in the late 1980s, the cave became notorious for the number of explorers who became trapped and required emergency assistance to escape its twisting, narrow, and poorly mapped passageways. In late November 2009, the inherent risk and dangers of Nutty Putty Cave made national news when twenty-six-year-old college student John Edward Jones became trapped upside-down in an uncharted and perilously narrow section of the cave.
