In the age of the great resignation and quiet quitting, it's important for businesses to find ways to engage employees and make them feel that they're more part of a company than just an employee. In this episode of By the Books, Lindsay is joined by Chris McKee, President at Venturity Financial Planners to discuss how implementing an Open Book Management System has changed his business and why other businesses should consider the same thing. Often times companies don't feel comfortable opening their books to those that work for them. However, by being honest, it can create an opportunity for employees to feel involved and that they can have a direct impact on the company's bottom line. This becomes even more important as the economy takes a turn and employees become more paranoid about the status of their jobs and the company. Chris talks about how his business took it a step further by offering an Employee Stock Ownership Program, and how this helped to drastically change the company's profit margins. Therefore, they end up leaving a lot of money on the table. This is where Dell James comes in, President of TiP Excise, LLC. Would you step into a marriage before having discussions about important topics like values and money? It seems like a silly question, yet one that many business owners never consider before they enter into a business partnership. What many don't realize is that entering into a business partnership is very similar to entering into a marriage, and many of these important discussions never happen until it's much too late. In this episode of By the Books, Lindsay is joined again by Jeffrey Gonzales, Business Development Manager at Payentry, to talk about all the things business owners need to consider before they enter into a partnership. They also talk about important questions and discussions you should have before you sign any papers. It may seem like nothing could possibly go wrong, but just like any great relationship, there are always disagreements lurking around the corner. It's important that you have as many hard discussions to mitigate those disagreements before they go beyond fixing. In this episode of Beyond the Books, Lindsay is joined by Susan Bryant, Principal, Tax Strategist, Business Advisor, and Process Architect at the MB Group.  Susan discusses why it's so important for business owners to work with their accountants to help find tax deduction opportunities and different ways you can actually build up your retirement accounts while reducing taxes. In this episode of Beyond the Books, Lindsay is joined by Benjamin Gerald, Principal at Audio Financial Group to talk about exit strategies, and what business owners should consider long before they ever get ready to sell. There are so many different scenarios to consider, and planning earlier than later, can set you up for long-term success.  Do you have a board of directors set up to see your blind spots? Will you leave this to your family, and if so, how will you split it up? Do you want to sell, yet still have some ownership left. These are just some of the questions they discuss in this episode. Many businesses fall under the assumption that since they're small, or because they don't deal with a whole lot of client data, they're immune to potential cyber-attacks. Hacking is a $3.5 Billion Dollar industry in the United States alone and over $6 Trillion worldwide. Their job is to find vulnerabilities and then hold your data hostage. It may be worth a few thousand or several million to them, but the fact is they're looking and you could be at risk. In this episode of By the Books, Lindsay welcomes Managing Director of Cyberware AI, Jon Poteet. In true IRS form, they are on a mission to try to collect more tax revenue. Part of that revenue comes in the form of the payments we, as a society, have grown to love because of the convenience. Those payments include things like Venmo, Cash App, Paypal, etc. The requirement for a 1099K to be sent is when payments of $600 are received. So what happens when you go on a vacation, and your friend pays you $750 via Venmo for their portion of the AirBnB? Are you required to report that income? It's about to get complicated, and unfortunately, the rules don't make it very clear. In this episode of By the Books, Lindsay is joined by Trey Rush, Owner of Pay Tech Plus.
