Catching Up:• Peter shares a laid-back spring break filled with Avowed, a vasectomy, and home recovery. He praises the game's gray morality and engaging writing.• Eden talks about buying a Boox Palma (a minimalist e-reader) to curb phone addiction, reading five books in a week, and recommends the Practice Perfect romance series by Carson Tate.Tech Dalliances:• Both hosts talk about recent tech indulgences.• Eden raves about the Boox Palma as a life-improving gadget for focused reading.• Peter details his journey with the Ayn Odin 2 Portal, a handheld Android gaming device. His dream of retro emulation quickly becomes a nightmare of BIOS files and sideloading drama.• The takeaway? Sometimes it's better to just play your modern Steam backlog.Comics Corner:• Eden shares thoughts on DC's new Absolute line and its reimaginings of classic characters:• Absolute Wonder Woman is a standout.• Absolute Batman explores a working-class Bruce Wayne.• Absolute Martian Manhunter earns high praise for reinventing a character Eden never cared about.• A rant about Hush 2 and a Harley Quinn scratch-and-sniff fart fetish comic provides comic book industry absurdity.Main Topic -- Andor Episodes 1-3:Peter's First Watch:• Came in skeptical due to Star Wars burnout.• Found episode one a bit slow, episode two better, and episode three "hooked" him.• Admits it's the most he's enjoyed Star Wars since Return of the Jedi--possibly ever.Themes and Analysis:• Andor is a serious, adult take on Star Wars, unafraid to depict the empire as a metaphor for real-world fascism and police brutality.• The show avoids nostalgic gimmicks and "wink-wink" references in favor of grounded storytelling and rich characterization.Setting Praise:• Ferix, Cassian's home, is a fully realized working-class world with its own culture, social code, and resistance instincts.• The show's commitment to practical sets over digital environments makes it visually compelling.Character Deep Dives:• Cassian Andor's backstory reveals a lifetime of loss and injustice, priming him for future rebellion.• Marva's complex relationship with Cassian is explored through strong performances and layered writing.• Syril Karn is identified as a perfect example of authoritarian overreach--ambitious, small-minded, and terrifyingly familiar.Visual & Directorial Highlights:• Directed by Toby Haynes, the series is praised for its cinematography, lighting, and gripping action sequences.• The bell ringer, glove wall, and "droid that is stairs" moments are noted as the kind of world-building Star Wars does best.Looking Ahead:• Eden hints that the upcoming arcs in Andor get even better.• Season 2 will follow a similar structure: four arcs of three episodes, each set a year apart leading up to Rogue One.Closing Thoughts:• Peter is intrigued and excited to continue.• The hosts tease more Andor discussions ahead and wrap up with their usual mix of sarcasm, cultural critique, and sincere enthusiasm.

Daredevil is not the only Netflix series confirmed now as MCU canon - the entire Defenders saga can be seen within the MCU Timeline on Disney+. This is a big deal for fans of the Netflix shows who have called for them to be canonized for years. The Defenders shows fit into the timeline starting with Daredevil after I Am Groot and ending with The Punisher before Doctor Strange. There's also a rumor Deborah Ann Wolf and Elden Hansen are set to return as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson in Daredevil: Born Again.  Trekkies will soon see their favorite franchise back on the big screen with director Toby Haynes on the bridge in the captain's chair. Haynes recently directed several episodes of the Star Wars hit show Andor. With Seth Grahame-Smith writing and JJ Abrams' Bad Robot producing, it has been 8 years since the last Star Trek movie - though this one is to take place decades before the 2009 Star Trek movie plot. Paramount has had recent Star Trek success in the television world, streaming Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, Picard, and Discovery. Though this prequel may not show the Chris Pine-led cast we are used to seeing, there are still plans to have a final movie with that crew in the future.  We keep talking about Tom Cruise and now for an even bigger announcement…a Top Gun 3 movie is officially in development to bring back that loving feeling. Top Gun: Maverick writer Ethan Kruger is already writing for the new installment and sources report director Joe Kosinski will also be back to pilot the film. This news comes to us shortly after the partnership announced with Cruise and Warner Bros. Discovery. Top Gun: Maverick raked in an astounding $1.5 billion in 2022 and Cruise looks like he's willing to continue the legacy with a third film. Rumors are flying that DC Studios will begin their search for a Supergirl actress soon.  In the mix for frontrunners we have Milly Aycock of house of the dragon, Emilia Jones from Coda and Locke and Key, and Meg Donnelly of the Zombies franchise and DC Animation where she plays supergirl. James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the Supergirl, Woman of Tomorrow movie in 2022 based on the comics by Tom King.  Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, the director and writer of the 2002 zombie horror film 28 Days Later, are reuniting for 28 Years Later, a sequel to the original. The pair are hoping to launch a trilogy of films set in the universe. Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss opened up for the first time about their canceled Star Wars movie in the cover story for last week's Hollywood Reporter, stating that the concept for their film dealt with the rise of the first Jedi and how the Jedi Order came to be. The Last of Us Season 2 has cast Beef star Young Mazino as Jesse. The series is expected to start production soon. Isabela Merced has also been cast as Dina. Barbie and Shang-Chi star Simu Liu will host the 2024 People's Choice Awards which will air live on NBC, E!, and Peacock on February 18. Director David Gordon Green, who was initially set to direct a sequel to last year's Exorcist: Believer titled Exorcist: Deceiver, has exited the project. Universal originally planned for the film to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, but the timetable is now unclear as the studio searches for a new director. Noah Hawley, the showrunner of the upcoming FX series "Alien," revealed in an interview that the series is set on Earth approximately 70 years in the future, preceding the events of the original film series. Despite discussions with Ridley Scott, Hawley explained that he won't incorporate the backstory from "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" into his series, expressing a preference for the original films' retro-futuristic technology over the more advanced tech featured in the prequels.

After the discussion, director Toby Haynes (“Sherlock,” “Black Mirror,” “Brexit”) joins the podcast to talk about COVID changing the production, working with Andy Serkis, and more. During the interview, Toby Haynes talked about speaking with showrunner Tony Gilroy and producer Sanne Wohlenberg about directing one to three episodes, which completely changed after the pandemic lockdown. The original plan was for Tony Gilroy to direct the first episodes of the series, but COVID made that nearly impossible. Haynes ended up directing many more episodes than he thought he would and broke it all down for us in this engaging new episode of 'The Rogue Ones.' “USS Callister” is the first episode of the fourth season of Netflix’s ‘Black Mirror.’ The episode follows Robert Daly (Jesse Plemons), a reclusive programmer and co-founder of a multiplayer online game. But, the overlooked designer takes out his frustrations by copying his co-workers’ DNA to create digital clones of them in a fictional world aboard the USS Callister. In this interview, Stephan Pehrsson tells us about the basics of what it’s like to be a cinematographer. Specifically for this episode, Pehrsson and director Toby Haynes discussed the two worlds of Daly’s life, the different tones on the spaceship, and how they tried to use the different worlds of ‘Star Trek,’ such as the original, the Next Generation and J.J. Abrams’ futuristic look. Also, the cinematographer discussed breaking into the business, the importance of who you know versus what you know in the beginning, dealing with rejection, how to make connections and how to progress together, and the last minute decision to include a ‘Breaking Bad’ reunion in the episode. GALLY! It's the most wonderful time of the year once again, a glorious three-days-to-a-week where thousands of Doctor Who fans descend on the LAX Marriott in Los Angeles and bathe in glorious nerdery (and also sip a snifter of port on occasion.)  Our annual tradition is to run through the convention schedule before we arrive, glossing over panels that we know nothing about (cosplay, crafts, Buffy fandom and  Gay Agendas) and lionizing panels we think are cool (Steve Roberts, stuff we're moderating, podcasting chinwags, and Steve Roberts.) While we strive to inform and entertain, Gally guests are well advised to check out both the website at www.gallifreyone.com and read their program guide upon arrival, which will soon become your Holy Text as you navigate past Tiki Daleks and Femmy Sixes.  As always, the Three Who Rule will be releasing daily podcasts and interviewing many of the luminaries of new and Classic Who, but we'll also be opening the convention with our live show, "Radio Free Skaro and the World of Tomorrow" on Friday, February 17th. at 12:00 p.m. If you're going to be at #gally, we'd love for you to attend our live show for 90 minutes of fun and frivolity with Camille Coduri, Toby Haynes, Barnaby Edwards, Gary Russell and Simon Fisher-Becker.  Gallifrey is one of the highlights of the year for the Three Who Rule and 2012 promises to be the best Gally yet. See you there!   Checkout the show notes at http://www.radiofreeskaro.com

Gallifrey One, the massive and amazing annual fan-run Doctor Who convention, is rapidly approaching and we take some time to talk to Program Director Shaun Lyon about the recently-released convention schedule and to formally announce details of our live show - Radio Free Skaro And The World Of Tomorrow! As Gallifrey One's official podcast, we'll open the convention and will be joined on stage by actress Camille Coduri, director Toby Haynes, jack-of-all-trades Barnaby Edwards and jack-of-even-more-trades Gary Russell. The Three Who Rule also cast their gaze, commentary-wise, upon Tom MacRae's amazing The Girl Who Waited to see if it stands the test of time. And of course there's the news gnashing. One month to Gally! Check out the show notes at http://www.radiofreeskaro.com
