Today's guests are Henrik Holm, Operations Coordinator and Business Developer at MittNät and Victor Vikström, system developer at Redpill Linpro. Since just a few months back, they installed a smart bench in Karlstad to increase perceived safety for kids and youths in public environments. The bench is loaded with tech in the form of a phone charger and light, as well as the ability for visitors to talk to the bench and ask questions. A project so successful, more benches are to be installed in other places. Another part of the project is a further development of a Junior Achievement corporation (Swedish UF-företag) where location information is sent to a relative or a central by clicking a button installed in a scrunchie. At the same time, the street lights in the surrounding area are turned on. Tune into this episode to hear the full success story! In this episode of The Business Development Podcast, Kelly Kennedy explores what it takes to succeed as a modern business developer in 2025 and beyond. He breaks down the key skills, characteristics, and tools that every business developer must master, emphasizing that while technology and AI are reshaping the industry, the core of business development remains human connection. Kelly highlights the importance of confidence, adaptability, and personal branding, explaining how social media—especially LinkedIn—has become a non-negotiable tool for success. He also discusses how AI can enhance efficiency but warns against over-reliance, stressing that real relationships are built through direct human interaction like calls, meetings, and face-to-face engagement. The episode also dives into the seven essential tools every business developer needs, including CRM systems, email, video content, and AI-powered platforms. Kelly emphasizes the power of personal branding, encouraging business developers to create authentic and engaging content to establish credibility and attract opportunities. He also shares insights on how to measure success through booked meetings, rather than vanity metrics like emails or social media impressions. Wrapping up, he reassures listeners that despite the evolving landscape, the fundamentals of business development remain unchanged—build trust, create value, and leverage new tools to accelerate success.Key Takeaways:1. Business development in 2025 is still about human connection While AI and social media are powerful tools trust and relationships remain the foundation of success. 2. Confidence is key The best business developers are not fearless but they take action despite fear and project certainty in their messaging. 3. Adaptability separates top performers Meetings will get canceled clients will ghost and strategies will change success comes from adjusting quickly and staying persistent. 4. Personal branding is no longer optional Business developers must actively build their presence on LinkedIn and other platforms to establish credibility and attract opportunities. 5. The best business developers are great listeners Asking thoughtful questions and listening carefully leads to deeper relationships and better business opportunities. 6. Measure success in meetings not outreach The number of booked meetings is the most important metric not the number of calls or emails sent. 7. AI is a tool not a replacement AI can enhance efficiency in research content creation and CRM management but it cannot replace authentic human interactions. 8. Video is becoming a critical tool In an era of polished AI-generated content raw authentic video content helps build trust and differentiate business developers. 9. The right tools make all the difference Must-have tools for business developers include CRM systems LinkedIn Canva for content video editing software like Descript and a quality camera for video branding. 10. We are in the best time in history for business development Technology social media and AI have made finding connecting and engaging with prospects easier than ever those who embrace the tools will thrive.Links referenced in this episode:www.capitalbd.caBusiness Development Mastery Program with Kelly Kennedy Companies mentioned in this episode: Capital Business Development Master Business Development with Kelly Kennedy – Book Your Free Discovery Session Business growth isn't about luck—it's about mastery. In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Gerald Maatman discuss:Investing in yourself for better business development. The Darwinism of business development. Finding your passion and purpose. Utilizing your skillsets appropriately in marketing. Key Takeaways:In business development, sweat equity pays dividends. You want to get ahead of the problem and deliver value to the clients who end up with that problem. Do a great job on project number one, and project number two will follow. Be able to articulate in a quick sentence who you are and what value proposition you bring. Skill and success are valued by clients. Use the success you've had and market that to other purchasers of legal services, not by bragging, but by example. "The very most important thing that I would share with a younger lawyer is you need to flip the switch on your mindset. To be a good business developer, you need to be resilient. You need to be optimistic." — Gerald Maatman Thank you to our Sponsors!Moneypenny: https://www.moneypenny.com/us/Get Visible: https://www.getvisible.com/ Episode References: Book: Legal Business Development Isn't Rocket Science by Steve Fretzin Connect with Gerald Maatman: Website: https://www.duanemorris.com/attorneys/geraldmaatman.htmlLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/geraldmaatman/Twitter: https://twitter.com/g_maatman Connect with Steve Fretzin:LinkedIn: Steve FretzinTwitter: @stevefretzinInstagram: @fretzinsteveFacebook: Fretzin, Inc.Website: Fretzin.comEmail: Steve@Fretzin.comBook: Legal Business Development Isn't Rocket Science and more!YouTube: Steve FretzinCall Steve directly at 847-602-6911 Show notes by Podcastologist Chelsea Taylor-Sturkie Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. Welcome to Episode 1400; part of our Italian wine interview series set in Dusseldorf, Germany. Today Joy Livingston interviews Marzia Varvaglione from Varvaglione 1921. Stevie Kim and her team travelled to Dusseldorf, Germany this March to collaborate with ITA, the Italian Trade Agency. ITA was organizing some incredible Masterclasses featuring the best wines Italy has to offer. Each masterclass was led by the Master Sommelier Eros Teboni (awarded Best Sommelier Worldwide in 2018), and they wanted us there to document the amazing 3 days! Tune-in each Thursday as we bring you the great interviews that unfolded over the course of 3 days. About today's guest and winery: Marzia was born in Taranto on March 24, 1989 where she lived until the age of 18; she is the elder sister of 3 brothers, a fundamental and integral part of her life and her company. She studied at the Universities of Milan, Lugano, Lausanne and London where he had the opportunity to focus on business strategy and marketing. Then the most beautiful and exciting but also difficult path begins: joining the family business, a wine producing company still focused on the marketing of bulk wine. The company is now led by the father with her and her brothers. Marzia has been at her side as Business Developer and Marketing and Sales director for 10 years. Thus, at the same time, she also began to train in the wine sector by obtaining the WSET L3. La Varvaglione 1921 ( Vini di Puglia Varvaglione 1921, at the gates of Salento!) today it exports 5 million bottles to more than 70 countries around the world. Varvaglione 1921 has been making wine for almost one hundred years, spanning four generations of the family. Today, it is one of the biggest and fastest developing companies in Puglia, steadily increasing the number of bottles produced and the quality of its wines. The company is based in Leporano on the Gulf of Taranto, in the famous Salento region. Experience and tradition have found synergy in the company's use of innovative winemaking technology. Today the company has three production areas: the winemaking plant and cellar, the bottling site and the shop, which used to be the headquarters of the company. The feather in the cap today is the Masseria Pizzariello, a traditional Pugliese estate that symbolizes all of the history and way of life that is typical of the warm hospitality in this region. More about today's guest and winery: https://www.varvaglione.com/en/azienda-vini More about the interviewer: Joy Livingston is the Producer of Italian Wine Podcast. Narrator extraordinaire and Scienza whisperer Joy Livingston has been known to edit the occasional book from time to time. Mantic Games. Paul Buntman has always been a Business Developer (he talk to people to set up mutually beneficial business relationship) but didn't define it always like that. He worked in hobby retail (Musical instruments, then board games), after that he switched to IT (EDTech mostly) and now he is back in the board games industry, working for Mantic Games.
