Mountain climbing was an unusual pastime in the 1920s. It was particularly unusual among women. But Agnes Vaille made a name for herself as a tough, formidable climber. Soon, she found herself setting records. In 1925, she and fellow climber Walter Kiener decided to make history as the first people to climb Longs Peak's east face in the wintertime. Their friends warned them against the dangerous climb. But Walter and Agnes couldn't be dissuaded.Remember, kids, history hoes always cite their sources! This week on The Whiskey Trip Podcast, Big Chief heads to Lyons, Colorado — the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park — to sit down with Craig Engelhorn from Spirit Hound Distillers for a ride through mountain whiskey culture and handcrafted American Single Malt.   With a deep brewing background, Craig shares how his passion for grain and fermentation shaped Spirit Hound's whiskey program, along with the story behind the incredible still he hand crafted himself.   On the first half, the guys sip Spirit Hound's American Single Malt with a touch of peated malt before diving into their Bottled in Bond Palo Cortado Finished American Single Malt loaded with dark fruit, roasted nuts, and an unforgettable horehound candy finish.   The second half climbs even higher with the Colorado Honey Finished American Single Malt, where the honey enhances the whiskey without overpowering it. They finish the ride with a monster rye whiskey made from 70% rye and 30% malted barley bottled at a staggering 155.6 proof. Three feet of snow in early May and we still point the bikes toward Rocky Mountain National Park. With my buddy Jake, we leave Estes Park and climb Bear Lake Road toward 9,500 feet, watching temperatures, scanning shadowed corners, and keeping one rule front and center: no ego. If it gets sketchy, we turn back. That's real motorcycle safety, not bravado. Past the park gates, the fear evaporates. The Park Service has the road clear, and Colorado delivers that rare contrast of dry black asphalt framed by piles of pristine white snow. I trail Jake through careful corners while my camera rolls, and the Continental Divide rises over the handlebars like something ancient and quiet. Along the way we spot deer, elk, and even a moose settled into a snowy meadow, then we kill the engines at Bear Lake and let the mountain silence rush in. But the ride is only half the story. Over coffee before the climb, we talk about friends carrying PTSD, people crushed by work stress, and how hard it is to find a moment of peace in a loud world. We land on why riding matters so much: it's moving meditation. You can't live in the past or the future on a motorcycle. You have to be here, now, and that focus opens the door to gratitude and to the kind of shared experience that sticks for a lifetime. If this hits home, subscribe to Peace Love Moto, share this with a riding buddy, and leave a review. What's your “can you believe this” ride, and who are you calling for coffee and a run up the canyon?Support the showTags:  Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, DGR, Mindfulness, Motorcycle riding, mindful motorcycling, motorcycle therapy, nature connection, peace on two wheels, Rocky Mountain tours, rider self-discovery, spiritual journey, motorcycle community, open road philosophy.

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Pamela Kyel, author of the book On a Break in Charm City. Award-winning author Pamela Kyel was born and raised in Edgewood, Maryland—north of Charm City. It's kind of a running joke that when you live near a large, well-known city, you tell people that's where you're from. So, unofficially, she's from Baltimore!   She followed the drum of the Air Force for 25 years. She joined her husband on six assignments—OCONUS (Outside Continental United States), aka overseas, and CONUS (Continental United States). Along the way, they added two children and numerous pets, not counting the half-a-dozen cats that came with their house in Italy. She has traveled extensively across the states and Europe, with her favorite overseas locations being Paris and Slovenia, among stateside favorites such as Rocky Mountain National Park and Door County, Wisconsin.   Family is important to her, and nowhere is that more evident than in her Charm City Mystery Series. When you've lived across the world from mothers and brothers, you adapt and overcome. You create family—and they stay with you long after the career ends. Her military family resides in Virginia, Texas, and North and South Carolina—with many still on active duty worldwide.   Writing came out of their duty station in Illinois. She picked up her computer while sitting with her elementary-age child through covid classes and thought, I can write a book. And the rest is history. While her original novel will never see the light of day, she grew and expanded her confidence in what she was doing. She was good at this, and she would have something to show for it one day. In a little over three years, she'd trod the agent querying circuit and amended her goal. Now, she just needed to hold her book in her hand. It was necessary. With that in mind, she sent out three queries to small publishers, and for her, the third time was the charm. The Wild Rose Press picked up her book and offered a contract. Less than a year later, she now held all those years of hard work in her hand.    In my book review, I stated On a Break in Charm City is a cozy mystery by Pamela Kyel. This is the third in her Charm City Mystery series, and once again, Pamela does not disappoint! I love this cast of characters including Laci Duval, an investigator with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. However, she is forced to take a vacation. But if you know Laci, you know she doesn't do relaxation. Instead, she finds looking for a missing person who just happens to be NSA.   Laci is funny, clutzy, a bit socially awkward, and thinks of everyone as a type of iced tea. In this installment, we continue her journey with potential love interest, Antonio, and keep up with her best friends Sammie and Cassy, as well as Rev and, new to this series, his brother Lum.   If you like a good mystery, with twists and turns, break-ins, fires, kidnapping, computer programming, surveillance cameras, trackers, and even Russians, then this is the cozy for you!   Subscribe to Online for Authors to learn about more great books! https://www.youtube.com/@onlineforauthors?sub_confirmation=1   You can follow Author Pamela Kyel Website: https://pamelakyel.com/ FB: @Pamela Kyle Author IG: @pamelakyel TikTok: @pamelakyel LinkedIn: @Pamela Kyel   Purchase On a Break in Charm City on Amazon: Paperback: Ebook: https://amzn.to/4cNRwbp   Teri M Brown, Author and Podcast Host: https://www.terimbrown.com FB: @TeriMBrownAuthor IG: @terimbrown_author X: @terimbrown1   Want to be a guest on Online for Authors? The moment a repair estimate lands, every driver asks the same question: am I maintaining a car or financing its last years? We get specific about the “sell it” repairs that blow up budgets fast, from a blown head gasket to a transmission replacement, cracked engine block, air suspension failure, and the kind of electrical problems that eat shop time without guaranteeing a clean fix. We also talk overheating damage like warped or cracked cylinder heads, heater core replacement that requires major dash work, and timing chain or timing belt failures that can turn into valve and piston damage on interference engines. The goal is simple: help you make a calm decision when repair costs start to outrun your car's value.Once you choose not to repair, we walk through what to do with the vehicle next: selling privately, trading it in, donating it for pickup, or turning it into a project car. If you've ever stared at a “fix it or sell it” crossroads, this part gives you practical next steps instead of guilt. Then we shift into summer mode with national park road trips and driving-focused routes worth planning for, including Glacier National Park's Going-To-The-Sun Road, Yosemite's Tioga Pass at high elevation, and Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park where brake management matters on long descents. We close with a straightforward review of a hybrid minivan that leans SUV in style, covering interior space, cargo flexibility, fuel economy, and pricing against familiar competitors. If you enjoy real-world car advice and road-trip planning, subscribe, share this with a friend who's debating a big repair, and leave a review with the most expensive fix you've ever faced.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! New car shopping feels like it should be getting easier, yet the spring market is doing the opposite. From our live remote at the Tailpipes and Tacos Easter edition at Loopy Tortilla in Katy, we break down why U.S. auto sales are sputtering as the season changes and why volatility may be back on the menu.We connect the dots on the big forces squeezing buyers right now: vehicle affordability, a jump in gasoline prices, soft job growth, and consumer confidence that just is not there. We also talk about how the loss of a federal EV tax credit can ripple through electric vehicle demand, and we debate the kind of leadership decisions that leave enthusiasts shaking their heads, including the controversy around dropping V8 models even as brands try to pivot. Then we switch gears into pure summer planning with a driver-focused national parks road trip guide. We cover standout roads like Glacier National Park's Going-to-the-Sun Road, Yosemite's Tioga Pass, and Rocky Mountain National Park's Trail Ridge Road, plus practical driving tips for altitude, braking on long descents, and picking the right vehicle whether you are bringing the whole family or just chasing a great stretch of pavement. We also hit a packed events calendar and close with a hard look at dealership pricing transparency, including an FTC case tied to hidden add-ons and mandatory fees. Send us Fan MailA five hour push across Boulder's Flatirons sounds like a hard trail run until you add exposed scrambling, solo climbing up to 5.7, and the kind of off trail linkups where every boulder wants your ankles. We sit down with Caleb Hardaway, a new La Sportiva mountain running athlete, to unpack how he set the FKT on Jerry Roach's Top 10 Flatirons linkup and why that time was built months before the clock ever started.Caleb walks us through the route's moving parts: choosing a clean style, climbing and downclimbing efficiently in running shoes, and treating navigation between formations as its own technical discipline. We get into the projection process that makes serious Fastest Known Time efforts possible, including rehearsing cruxes, studying video beta move by move, comparing GPS tracks, and learning when “fast” starts to feel unsafe. It's a conversation about performance, but also about judgment, restraint, and earning confidence on steep terrain. We also zoom out to the bigger mountain athlete picture: why Caleb isn't motivated by racing, how van life and bartending shifts create training freedom, and what he's eyeing next around Longs Peak and Rocky Mountain National Park. Plus, we nerd out on gear details that actually matter on rock, from sticky rubber to resoling shoes for better traction on the Flatirons. If you're into mountain running, scrambling, FKTs, Boulder climbing culture, and the messy human side of big goals, you'll want this one. Say Hi to Ron!The easiest way to change a ride isn't a new exhaust or a faster route. It's the quiet minute before the engine starts, when you pull on your jacket, slide into your gloves, and hear that helmet strap click into place. We've all heard ATGATT as a safety rule, but we've started to see it as something deeper: a ritual that slows us down, steadies our mind, and helps us ride with real presence. From cold Colorado mornings to a tour-guide story in Rocky Mountain National Park, we unpack a practical truth riders and hikers both learn fast: your body makes heat, and your clothing traps it. That small detail explains a lot about comfort, wind chill, and why the right motorcycle jacket, helmet, gloves, pants, and boots can turn tension into ease. When you're warm and properly protected, you're not wrestling your gear or bracing for discomfort. You're free to pay attention to the road, your body position, and the moment you're actually in.We also go beyond motorcycle safety gear and into mindset. Gearing up can be a form of mindful riding, a discipline that mirrors meditation: deliberate, sensory, and focused. And when you treat protection as gratitude, the whole meaning shifts. The ride matters, but the rider is irreplaceable. If you want more calm on two wheels and a better relationship with risk, preparation, and peace of mind, press play. When Toni Henthorn fell to her death during an anniversary hike in Rocky Mountain National Park, it was first reported as a tragic accident in rugged terrain. But almost immediately, park rangers noticed that the scene didn't match the story. The location was far from the trail, the drop was steeper than described, and photographs taken just minutes before the fall raised troubling questions. As investigators began to dig deeper, they uncovered another death years earlier — one that had also been ruled an accident, and that now looked disturbingly similar. What followed was a long and complex investigation that would ultimately lead to a murder conviction and expose how a carefully planned crime unfolded in one of America's most visited national parks. In this episode of Parkography, we examine the evidence, the investigation, and the critical role that park rangers and forensic analysis played in uncovering the truth behind a case that shocked both the National Park Service and the public. Retro fun—from “Rad” vs “6–7” to Red Rover and rotary phones—could Gen Z figure them out? Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka ‘BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Deadly Mountain Lion Attack Shocks Hiking Community Authorities have ended the search for mountain lions after a solo hiker was fatally attacked on a remote Colorado trail near Rocky Mountain National Park. The victim was identified as 46-year-old Kristen Marie Kovatch of Fort Collins. She was found dead on New Year's Day along the Crosier Mountain Trail, southeast of the small community of Glen Haven. Two hikers discovered her body around noon and reported seeing a mountain lion nearby, which they scared off by throwing rocks. One of the hikers, a physician, tried to help but could not find a pulse. An autopsy confirmed Kovatch died from asphyxia caused by compression to her neck. The Larimer County Coroner ruled her death an accident, saying her injuries were consistent with a mountain lion attack. It was Colorado's first fatal mountain lion attack since the late 1990s and only the fourth reported in North America over the past decade. Wildlife officers killed two mountain lions in the area later that day. Officials say one of the animals, a male, had human DNA on its paws. A third lion was reportedly seen, but after four days of searching with no further evidence, authorities called off the effort and reopened nearby trails. Kovatch's family described her as an ultramarathon runner who loved hiking and Colorado's public lands. Wildlife officials note there have been several mountain lion encounters in the region in recent months, including attacks on dogs and a runner who fought off a lion last fall. Colorado is home to an estimated 3,800 to 4,400 mountain lions, which are rarely aggressive toward humans but can pose a risk in isolated areas. Reference https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/search-ends-mountain-lions-after-hiker-fatally-attacked-128928116 Drone Delivers Lifeline to Stranded Hiker In a first-of-its-kind rescue, Phoenix firefighters used a delivery drone to help a stranded hiker on Camelback Mountain in Arizona last month. The hiker was spotted in the evening, just after 8 p.m., waving for help from the rocky Camel's Head area. With darkness setting in and the terrain too dangerous to navigate at night, rescuers knew they couldn't reach him until morning. Instead of leaving him without help, the Phoenix Fire Department launched a weight-bearing drone. The drone flew supplies directly to the mountaintop, delivering a cell phone, food, water, and a blanket to keep the hiker safe and comfortable overnight. Camelback Mountain sees dozens of rescues every year, often due to extreme heat and difficult trails. Until now, firefighters relied mostly on helicopters and ground crews. But drones—originally introduced in 2022 for wildfire monitoring—are changing how rescues are handled. The department's drones use thermal imaging and can carry up to six pounds. Each drone costs about $15,000, but firefighters say the technology is already proving its value. Crews were able to make multiple quick supply drops during the night—something that would have taken much longer on foot. Phoenix Fire officials say this mission highlights their commitment to using new technology to protect both firefighters and the public, and they plan to keep expanding how drones are used in future rescues. The scavenger hunt continues in book two of the bestselling National Park Mystery Series. After camping in Rocky Mountain National Park, Jake and his friends travel to the Great Sand Dunes in southern Colorado. Exploring the heart of the dunes, they stumble upon something both unexpected and dangerous. Through more twists and turns, Jake's friendships and integrity are tested by choices that will demand smarts and courage.Illustrated by the author, this page-turning adventure is designed to capture the imagination of even the most reluctant of young readers. Parents looking for a delightful read-aloud adventure will find it hard to put down. (Word of Caution: readers frequently note that this is a “Please read just one more chapter” book). If your family loves the enchanted lands of our national parks, this series will take you to hidden places and into breathtaking landscapes. If you enjoy movies like National Treasure and Uncharted or mystery adventures like the Hardy Boys and Gary Paulsen's survival story, Hatchet, you'll love this first installment of the National Park Mystery Series.Aaron Johnson grew up on a farm in Ohio where he'd jump the fence to hike into the swamps, gullies, ravines, and gorges in a place they called The Deep Fields. He wrote his first book in second grade, and continued to write as a teenager. Then he became a high school and middle school teacher, and went on to work for twenty years in education. He's so grateful to bring his many passions together in this new life-chapter as an author: the outdoors, writing, the national parks, illustration, and his interest in fields of history, conservation, and the natural sciences. And he gets to squeeze my terrible dad- jokes into my stories.Their family lives in Colorado where Aaron spent over six months exploring and leading backpacking trips into Rocky Mountain National Park. That's why the adventure begins in RMNP, in the heart of a place that he thinks of as home.Aaron hopes your family not only enjoys these stories, but also develops a deeper affection for our national parks and the other wild places near you.Learn more about her books when you visit her website at https://nationalparkmysteryseries.comPlease share StoryJumpers with a friend if you enjoyed this episode. Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”Beauty isn't a filter on life; it's a way to understand it, and ourselves. Jack sits down with Artist-photographer and author Erik Stensland to explore how a season of crushing burnout in the Balkans led him toward solitude, quiet attention, and a life reoriented by wonder in Rocky Mountain National Park. Together we unpack why silence feels unbearable at first, why many of us would rather hit the metaphorical shock button than face our inner world, and how a simple practice—ten phone-free minutes in a forest—can begin to settle the mind. Eric explains the difference between loneliness and chosen solitude, and how beauty, understood as goodness rather than glamour, becomes a practical guide for daily decisions. We also dive into desire: not suppressing it, not indulging it, but tracing it to the deeper longing for meaning, belonging, and purpose. If environmental news leaves you frozen, EriK offers a third path beyond doom and denial. Inspired by John Muir, he shows how falling in love with places fuels lasting care and healing... paying attention, telling small stories, buying less.Ready to test it for yourself? Put the phone away, take a quiet walk, and notice one true thing. If this conversation moves you, follow, share with a friend who needs a breath of fresh air, and leave a review so more people can find their way back to beauty.Visit Erik and Purchase "The Journey Beyond, Learning to Live Beautifully in a Troubled World" and the shipping is free:)Read Jack's Latest "Directing Our Passions and Desires to a Love that is Beautiful" Here are the links to Jack's Substack and  X https://x.com/JP2RenewalCheck out the Podcast on YouTubeContact me: info@jp2renew.orgSupport the show

This week on the RV Podcast: Liz Amazing on RV Defects and the Fight for Consumer Rights We interview Liz Amazing, who has one mission, protect RV owners and hold the industry accountable, no excuses, no hiding, she exposes it all. While the government has closed, the National Parks have mostly stayed open…but at a growing cost Why you do NOT want to cancel your RV insurance while the rig is in storage for the winter All this plus the RV News of the Week and your questions coming up in Episode #570 of the RV Podcast You can watch the video version from our RV Lifestyle YouTube Channel by clicking the player below. If you prefer an audio-only podcast, you can hear us through your favorite podcast app or listen now through the player below. [power press] RV CONVERSATION OF THE WEEK - with Liz Amazing on RV Defects Liz Amazing is a consumer advocate with a YouTube Channel dedicated to helping people who face significant problems with their new RV. Liz regularly features heartbreaking stories of individuals and couples who poured their savings into a new rig only to face one major repair after another, and run into brick walls when trying to get the problems fixed.  Liz lets RV owners tell their stories, sometimes through tears, then approaches the RV dealers and manufacturers seeking solutions, which she often receives. Through her work, Liz has discovered industry trends, advocates for quality improvement, and offers help to those with nowhere to go. In the crowded world of RV YouTube Influencers, Liz has carved out an important niche as a consumer advocate, and we're delighted to have her on the RV Lifestyle today as our guest.  In this conversation, we discuss the challenges faced by consumers in the RV industry involving quality issues, unregulated practices, and heartbreaking stories of buyers left with defective RVs. The discussion highlights the importance of consumer rights, the role of social media in advocacy, and tips for avoiding common pitfalls when purchasing RVs. Liz emphasizes the need for manufacturers to prioritize quality over profit and offers insights into choosing the right RV and dealer. Liz Amazing on RV Defects Takeaways: Liz Amazing transitioned from a novice camper to a leading RV advocate. She emphasizes the importance of using her platform for good. Many RV buyers face heartbreaking quality issues with their purchases. The RV industry is largely unregulated, leading to poor consumer experiences. Liz highlights the shift in manufacturing practices, prioritizing profit over quality. Social media serves as a powerful tool for consumer advocacy. Buyers often face challenges with buybacks and NDAs from manufacturers. Avoiding mass-produced RVs can reduce the chances of quality issues. Independent RV makers often provide better quality products. Liz encourages consumers to do thorough research before purchasing an RV. RV NEWS OF THE WEEK When Washington Closes, the National Parks (Mostly) Stay Open — But at What Cost? More and more stories are emerging each week of the difficulties the nation's national parks are facing during the continued federal government shutdown. Utah is spending $8,000 a day to keep the visitor centers open at its five national parks, and groups like the Zion Forever Project are collecting donations and paying to print maps, feed rangers, and keep things open for the tourists showing up. At Joshua Tree, a wildfire started in the camping area during the shutdown, but it is now contained. Pinnacles National Park had brownish water coming out of the campsites because a maintenance worker wasn't there to flush the system. The state of Colorado is paying to keep the visitor centers open at the Rocky Mountain National Park. And since none are collecting visitor entrance fees, all anticipate significant budget gaps next year.  Six Months, No Camper — So He Brought His Work to Camping Wor...

A one-pound ranger changed my whole ride. I rolled into Rocky Mountain National Park at dusk, layered up at 8,000 feet, and let the quiet find me—wind through pines, a slow river in Endo Valley, and the sharpest voice of the night from a tiny Albert squirrel telling me to move along. That small interruption opened a bigger conversation about how we listen, how we ride, and how we care for the places that move us.I talk about the practice of letting your ears adjust to wild spaces—how silence isn't absent, it's layered—and why I teach that to guests on tours. From there, the road bends toward responsibility. We touch the ache of seeing endless sprawl from the air and the jolt of hearing a single loud exhaust erase a canyon's calm. Marvin Gaye's Mercy Mercy Me becomes a clear-eyed warning that still echoes today, while John Denver's Rocky Mountain High gives language to the surge of joy that leaves you small beneath 13,000-foot peaks and somehow more at home than anywhere else. This is a love letter to riding and a call to ride with care: tuning for quiet, leaving no trace, choosing routes and habits that honor wildlife and fellow visitors, and backing it up with support for the National Park Foundation and local volunteers. Motorcycles can be more than machines; they can be tools that help us understand the world and our place in it. If nature's chorus is already singing—the stream, the breeze, the elk, even a fierce little squirrel—our job is to add harmony, not noise. Subscribe, share with a friend who loves the open road, and tell me: what sound of the wild stays with you? In this episode of Peace Love Moto, I share one of the most powerful moments I've experienced as a tour guide in Rocky Mountain National Park—when a guest from Chicago stood beside me and said, “Ron, I feel the presence of God here.”That moment reminded me why I ride and why I guide—to help others connect with something greater. I will share about the deep contrast between my corporate day job and the stillness I find on a motorcycle in the wilderness.Adventure riding isn't just about dirt roads and distant views—it's about mindfulness, healing, and peace.  We reflect on how the open road helps peel back the layers of everyday stress and reveals something deeper.Whether it's a Jeep Tour in Rocky Mountain National Park or a solo ride into the mountains, I believe these experiences change us.  Riding is therapy. It's spiritual. It's real.  In this episode, I invite you to ride with me—not just through the mountains of Colorado, but into a deeper part of yourself.Let's talk about resilience, reflection, and rediscovering purpose on two wheels.  Join me as we chase peace, love, and that presence we can feel—but not always explain.Support the show

In this chilling episode of National Park Nightmares, we explore two of the most unsettling disappearances in America's wild places—stories where the line between accident and something darker blurs beyond recognition.First, we return to 1958 and the shadowy slopes of Mount Meeker in Colorado. Ten-year-old Bobby Bizup vanished from Camp St. Malo, a Catholic boys' camp near Rocky Mountain National Park. Deaf, trusting, and familiar with the camp, Bobby was last seen leaving a fishing spot alone. Despite an exhaustive search, his remains weren't found until a year later—by a counselor who was also one of the last people to see him alive. Decades later, shocking revelations surfaced: that same counselor, Neil Hewitt, along with other clergy members from the camp, were later exposed as prolific abusers. Federal investigators are now reopening Bobby's case, fueled by new evidence—including the discovery of Bobby's missing skull in the possession of a Colorado family tied to the camp's leadership. What really happened to Bobby Bizup? And why did the people meant to protect him fail him so completely? Then we move to Yosemite National Park, 1981. Fourteen-year-old Stacey Ann Arras disappears during a short walk from Sunrise High Sierra Camp. Last seen standing on a rock near camp, she simply vanished. Despite an intensive search, not a single clue was found. No tracks. No belongings. Nothing. How does a teenager disappear in plain sight on a sunny afternoon? Forty years later, we still don't have answers. These are stories of innocence lost in America's most beautiful—and unforgiving—places. Stories where nature's silence speaks volumes, and where the wilderness may hide more than we can imagine.Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our SponsorsVisit Untold Radio AMVisit HIMS.COMBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.

How do you measure a mountain?

On the banks of the St Lawrence River in Quebec stands a 100-year-old lighthouse. While initially built to help boats navigate one of Canada's most difficult waterways, the Point-de-Père site now also holds a different responsibility: it is a key reference for measuring sea levels around the entire North America continent. But this is all set to change. With the development of new satellite technology, the tricky task of measuring sea levels is being updated - which could mean mountains around North America get brand new official heights. In this episode we revisit a question from CrowdScience listener Beth, who wondered about the elevation signs she saw scattered along a mountainous road, indicating how high above sea level she was. As sea levels rise, will all the elevation signs need repainting? And how do you measure sea level, anyway? The height of an enormous pile of rock like Ben Nevis, or Mount Everest feels unchangeable. But we measure them relative to the nearest patch of sea, which is where our story becomes complicated. Unlike water in a bath, sea level is not equal around the world. In fact, nothing on earth - not the sea, the shore or the mountains - is stable or constant, so the question of what you measure from and to becomes incredibly tricky. But that hasn't stopped scientists risking life and fingers to use an ever-evolving array of technologies to find answers. Join host Marnie Chesterton as she dives into the mechanics of the latest sea level technology, and how it could make a big difference to understanding our unpredictable world.
