What is the wrong you are meant to right in the world? In this episode, Jeff and Cale discuss: Understanding the narrative, not just the numbers.Finding joy while giving before you're gone and disinheriting the IRS.Putting your talents to work for the Kingdom.Living an abundant life. Key Takeaways: Take a look inside your family and what you're called to do. For some, it is disenfranchised youth or Christian entertainment. It may be missionary work, Bible translation, or the environment. Various things can be done and continue to need to be done.Let God move your heart - He moves within everyone in different ways.We all only have one chance here - let's use what we have for the good of others. There is not really a one-size-fits-all setup. It will be different for your family as it speaks to your values and purpose. "What we encourage people to do is start with something simple - just see if you can name three values, three words that you and your spouse feel really speaks to this and summarizes what we feel like God has called us to be as a family." — Cale Dowell About Cale Dowell: After diving deep into the hurdles clients face when picking a financial partner, Cale determined that financial advice should offer more than just managing a portfolio. How do you turn your resources into a tailwind for your kids, not a headwind? In this episode, Jeff and Cale discuss: Customizing your children's inheritance to what fits your family. Inheritance transfer that is led with purpose, not tax mitigation, in mind. Establishing a committed form of generosity to the Lord. The importance of communication at appropriate ages and stages. Key Takeaways: Knowing what to give to the next generation should be more than just dividing your estate equally. You can love your kids equally, but treat them uniquely. Giving each child the same amount may not be the right decision for your family. Are the decisions that you're making for your family based on empowering your children or controlling them?Make sure you and your spouse are on the same page with a unified purpose. "What could you do today for your kids (or in some maybe it's grandkids or great grandkids) now to start investing in that full inheritance?" — Cale Dowell About Cale Dowell: After diving deep into the hurdles clients face when picking a financial partner, Cale determined that financial advice should offer more than just managing a portfolio. Fun for him, not so much for the adults involved
Have you and your spouse thought about and set your financial finish line? In this episode, Jeff and Cale discuss: When is enough enough?Being a steward and not an owner of God's resources. Orienting your life for abundance today, but also for treasures in heaven. Taking inventory of what is yours to steward. Key Takeaways: Keeping up with the Joneses is not the finish line that brings about any sense of significance or purpose. You can't take it with you, but you can send it ahead. Change your view on giving. Instead of asking “how much should I give?” ask “how much am I allowed to keep?”Everyone will define a full life differently. But everyone who leans into their definition of a fuller life "This speaks to another principle we have at Arkos called: have a written plan. Well, it's hard to have a written plan if you don't know where everything is, and have some semblance of what we're marching towards." — Cale Dowell Episode References: The Treasure Principle by Randy Alcorn About Cale Dowell: After diving deep into the hurdles clients face when picking a financial partner, Cale determined that financial advice should offer more than just managing a portfolio. Is anything holding you back from fully embracing Christ?Today's message from Jerry Leachman closes with this prayer, interceding for all istening:"Dear God, there's no catch today. We don't have anything for anybody to join. We don't want anybody's money. We don't want anybody's anything. We're a band of brothers in here this morning. Lord, if there are men here that go, 'You know, I've believed in Christ, but I think the chaplain's right. I've been chasing idols. That's what's been holding me back.'Lord, I pray we just crash and break all the idols, like in the book of Acts. Paul went in and shared Christ with a town, and it says they begin to destroy all their idols. Idols either break our heart, leave us frustrated, or punish us all our days. There may be guys here who go, 'You know, I've never connected with Christ.' They may be looking over the ledge of that crater. I pray they would jump in the arms of Jesus. Now.I pray we all would jump into the crater in the arms of Christ. Lord... when my faith gets really thin, and it does from time to time. I think, 'I can't see you Lord, but You can see me.' Thank God Almighty.Thank you for Eric Liddell's example. He knew You made him fast. These men are so gifted, so talented. I pray they would get a chance to use their gifts, their talents; and when they do, they'd feel Your pleasure. But I pray they'd cease trying to validate themselves, stop wasting their life, covering up, trying to convince everybody else they're somebody they're not. Let them walk out of here free men today, I love the words of William Wallace about to go into impossible battle. He said: 'Men, the moment's going to come for all of us when we die. By God's help, let's just at least die free men.'Lord, I don't want to go to my grave a slave. I don't want to live another day a slave. Free us today, Lord. We're asking You for a miracle here today. In Christ's name, amen. Amen." - Jerry LeachmanJerry Leachman of Leachman Ministries is a favorite speaker at The Center's events. Along with being an associate Chaplain in The NFL for many years, Jerry has done ministry in Guatemala, Scotland, Russia, Europe and Africa as well as all over the U.S. He and his wife Holly have been on Young Life Staff and continue to be involved with Young Life here and also internationally.

Are you planning for the Kingdom or the world? In this episode, Jeff and Cale discuss: Thinking about your financial estate plan from a different angle.Planning your giving before you die.Generous giving as a family with a non-traditional framework of giving. The top five questions are frequently asked by generous business owners. Key Takeaways: The three key questions: How much is enough for us? How much is enough for the kids? What do we do with the rest? There is value in community and in having like-minded advisors as you write your estate plans. You should have a financial finish line written down. You should also be on the same page as your spouse with that finish line and what is happening with any excess. It's not about the balance sheet or the barn, it is about what God tells you and your spouse to do.Write a blessing letter to your children - write why you love them, what sticks out to you about their lives, about seeing God's hand in their lives, and more. Update it over the years. "God doesn't care about how many talents you have. I was introduced to Tom by Thomas from Season 1. I dubbed Thomas, "Chosen Dad," because one of the key things that he shared with me was the concept of chosen family, the people who aren't biologically family to you but become your family through the power and constancy of their presence in your life. Tom and Thomas became chosen family to one another through Young Life, a Christian ministry for teens where Tom, in his capacity as Young Life staff, mentored Thomas. If you're confused at this point about which one's Tom and which one's Thomas, that's totally understandable. In fact, maybe that's the point, because their stories are like the shards of a once-broken object, their jagged, imperfect edges coming together to redeem the wasn't-supposed-to-be-this-way wounds of childhood into a meant-to-be miracle. In our conversation, Tom shares great wisdom and insight on two demographics that are especially pertinent to us dads: teenagers and middle-aged men, the two constituencies that he's ministered to in his 20-plus year career as a pastor. He also shares candidly about his pain from childhood, the healing he's received, and the growing up he still has left to do.One more thing to introduce this interview: I looked up the origin of the name Thomas and its shortened form, Tom, and it turns out that it's an Aramaic name that means "twin," so you might say that this episode pretty much named itself: Tom, Chosen Dad.Enjoy the transcript as well, specially prepared for clarity and impact.
Mike Iversen came from an Evangelical background, and after getting degrees in English and Earth Science, he felt called to bring his skills to youth ministry, going on to get an M.A. in Theology from Fuller Seminary. During his studies, he also spent many years working with Young Life. His study of apologetics, Church history, and more helped him realize the need for a solid authority in a world plagued by relativism. He was also drawn by the reality of Christ's power in the sacraments, and knew he had to come home to the Catholic Church.

She also talks about the terror of having an older brother who loved farting in her face. A straight-A student in high school, Hanna also reminisces about her "rough" transition into college life, where her love for rings and inexperience with boys led to the nickname "bad h***job Hanna." Justin sits down with his brother-in-law, Jonathan Willis, for a conversation about faith, discipleship, and the power of community. Jonathan grew up in a Christian home, but for years, his faith was more about structure than relationship. Pride and self-reliance kept him from surrendering, and when life felt uncertain, he found himself frustrated and lost. But in that searching, God kept whispering, Remember, remember. Looking back, Jonathan saw that God had been there all along. For 16 months, he was without a job, wondering what God was calling him into. But provision doesn't always come as expected. God's provision is often people. Community pointed him back to Jesus, reminded him of God's faithfulness, and helped him navigate uncertainty. Real Christian community isn't about doing life alone—it's about leaning on others and allowing God to work through relationships. The biggest breakthroughs often happen in the unplanned moments. Discipleship has become Jonathan's greatest passion. Whether through Young Life, outreach trips, or intentional conversations, he's seen how helping people recognize their gifts and equipping them to love others can transform lives. It's not just about teaching—it's about walking together and creating space for God to move. His journey is a reminder that we aren't meant to do this alone. When we rely on God and the people He places in our lives, we find strength, direction, and a deeper understanding of what it means to truly follow Jesus. Lucas Koach came to faith as a teenager through Young Life, and pursued a call to ministry, entering Denver Seminary. That trajectory eventually led him to the Anglican Church of North America, where he served as an ordained priest for several years. Drawn by Catholic Social Teaching, a desire for Christian unity, and the thought of St. John Henry Newman, Lucas eventually became convicted of the truth and beauty of the Catholic Faith and made the journey home.
Chris Robertson's story is one of being all in. His mother describes his personality as being able to go from zero to a hundred in nothing flat. As you listen, you'll see why. When he commits to something, good or bad, he goes full throttle. Perhaps that's why, at his last arrest, he went on a three-hour high-speed chase. His prison stint started at 18 and he found himself in and out of federal or state prison for nearly 20 years. During another federal prison term, he started to realize he was just living up to the system's expectations and that maybe there was something different. In 2018, that something started to kick in as he started studying the psychology of the human brain. And then several years later, while in prison, he enrolled in Captain Your Story inside USCF in Salt Lake City. Now he finds himself feeling different, thinking different and acting different. Still living with his all-in personality, he is all in and living a healthy, productive life full of intention. What world do you want to create? For Bob Dalton, it started with one blanket and a mission to change lives. This week's episode features Bob Dalton, CEO/Founder of Sackcloth + Ashes!Founder stories are everywhere, but Bob Dalton's stands apart. There is so much to learn from Bob about business, about community, and about truly making the world a better place.https://www.locl.co/PS: This marks the finale of Season 4! Season 5 is on the horizon, and I can't wait to share what's next!
The Episcopal Church is a branch of Anglicanism. Over time, theological differences have created a divide, but what sets them apart? In this episode, Pastor Jeff sits down with Reverend Greg Kronz to explore the history, doctrinal shifts, and denominational splits that have shaped these two traditions. Here's What We Discussed:01:10 - Reverend Greg's Journey to MinistryRaised in a Roman Catholic family, Reverend Greg had a deep respect for tradition and faith. He later found a personal relationship with Christ through Young Life. Seeking a church that blended historical liturgy with evangelical beliefs, he was drawn to the Episcopal Church.07:19 - Anglicanism vs. EpiscopalianismAnglicanism began when the Church of England separated from the Roman Catholic Church in 1534. As the British Empire expanded, Anglicanism spread worldwide. In the U.S., Anglican churches were once part of the Episcopal Church. However, as theological differences grew, the Anglican Church of North America was formed, creating two distinct traditions.09:35 - Why Did Many Churches Leave the Episcopal Church? In 2003, the Episcopal Church consecrated Gene Robinson, its first openly gay bishop. This event deepened a growing divide. The issue was not just about social change but a larger departure from biblical authority. Reverend Greg explains how many Episcopalians felt the church was moving away from Scripture.14:22 - Key Differences Between Episcopalian and Anglican BeliefsThe Episcopal Church takes a progressive approach, emphasizing inclusivity and modern interpretations of Scripture. The Anglican Church of North America remains committed to traditional biblical teachings, especially on marriage, salvation, and scriptural authority.21:20 - The Role of Bishops and Church StructureBoth are led by bishops and organized into dioceses (groups of churches overseen by a bishop). The ACNA was formed as a response to theological shifts in the Episcopal Church. Reverend Greg shares how his church navigated this transition and how entire dioceses chose Anglicanism to maintain traditional beliefs. We love your feedback! Ron Williams life began in Montana. The son of alcoholic parents, he found himself alone and unsupervised most of his young life. He describes how he felt uncomfortable with the mainstream kids. At 12 he spent the night in an adult drunk tank. At 13 he stole his first car. The only love and belonging he felt through his youth was one summer he spent at a youth ranch where momentarily he felt love belonging and security. Ron learned to run at an early age. He ran away from home, from the law, from anything that was difficult. That trend continued for many years. In and out of prison 6 times he found himself getting old and tired of running. Finally with the support he has found at The Other Side Academy, he has stopped running, found value in his life and learned to face his demons. His story of triumph over a lifetime of pain is one you will want to hear. Then she was introduced to The Other Side Academy and she started the process of coming to herself. Listen in as she tells the heart wrenching story of the death of two of her siblings, the battles with her addictions and mostly how she came to herself with the help of the academy. Courtney knew God had been speaking to her about doing a major move for two years but she still wasn't sure. She decided to lay out a fleece, as they say in the Christian world: she asked God to help her find a piece of sea glass. And the rest is history. Hear that story as well as how God led her to marriage at 44—suddenlty a mom of 4! As a fulltime Bible study teacher and mentor with Young Life for over 20 years, Courtney knew the value of knowing and doing God's word. Her passion is to invite women into a flourishing life with the Lover of their souls and she's written two books to help in that endeavor: Prayer & Devotion and her prayer and Scripture meditation book R.A.M.P. Journal Leave a comment to be entered to win a free copy of either one. Courtney is the founder of Sea Glass mission. Here are some of her thoughts as to why Sea Glass: The beauty of sea glass is that it tumbles through the ocean for 20-40 years - into the depths, across distances, weathered by the elements - in order to be formed. As time goes on, the glass changes texture and shape because of where it's been and what it's been through. The slickness wears off, and the edges are rounded. Although still recognizable from its origins, the piece that was once-broken is transformed, and the beautiful sea glass is created … and ready to be used for a new purpose. Wherever you are in the “tumble” we want to help you see that Jesus, the Author of Life, is writing your story and that He longs to walk with you and show you abundant life. For the past 25 years, Sea Glass Mission founder Courtney Brackin has been in full-time ministry, working to share the Gospel and the love of Christ with young people in North Carolina, Uganda, Washington, DC and Florida. Her desire is to share the truth of God's Word and to help others be rooted in His life-giving scripture as they live in this tumultuous world. Her own life and soul have been shaped with purpose through studying scripture, spending time in the spiritual disciplines, living missionally-minded and simply being in the body of Christ. She is so thankful for the mentors, pastors and friends who showed her this path and who pointed her to the Way. She aims to be that same type of friend and guide, as she walks together with others. She also values being available to those who are questioning and wondering about faith and to those who want to be equipped and challenged to share their faith. Courtney lives in Naples, FL with her husband Eric. She is thankful to be step-mom to his four children, Ella, Jack, John and Ben. Courtney loves a good novel, cooking & baking, dreaming up her next trip and spending time with family & friends. Some gems from our conversation: Everyone deserves to hear about Jesus. Nothing is wrong with wanting to be married, but we need to live life to the fullest whether married or single. God completes you, period. The temptation in becoming a step-mom is to make it all about me rather than helping each child flourish as God intended. I know that nothing is mine: possessions, talents, my home—all belongs to God—and that makes it easy to say "yes" whenever someone needs me or my time or my table. God told me to remember His promise that He would show me things I'd never seen before.
In this episode, we critically examine Young Life's approach to Roman Catholicism through their article, "What Do Catholics (Really) Believe?" We'll unpack the theological missteps and discuss the implications of their stance for gospel clarity. Additionally, we'll dive into one of our own recent articles exploring the Roman Catholic practice of praying to Mary and the saints. Is it truly equivalent to asking friends to pray for you, or does it point to deeper theological concerns? Join us as we navigate these important topics from an Evangelical perspective, holding fast to the truth of the gospel.Episode resources:https://younglifeleaders.org/2022/04/what-do-catholics-really-believe.htmlhttps://www.reformandainitiative.org/resources/why-praying-to-the-saints-is-not-like-asking-for-prayer-from-friendsExamples of prayers to Mary, Joseph and Guardian Angels from Rome's 1999 edition of the official "Manual of Indulgences. Memorare, O piissima Virgo Maria Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
