It's not easy. It's going to test you in every way possible. But really think about the life that company has helped you live.""Success sort of brings with it a sense of complacency. And so having the discipline and the drive, it's enough to do it in business or maybe in family life or in sports... but to combine those two seems unattainable.""It was almost like a warning that that wasn't a good route... which I think ultimately gave me some fuel in the fire, to really make this thing work.""The family business is a great opportunity financially... It gives you much more job security than you're going to get in a non-family business.""I've been disciplined in different areas, but never had to put it all together at one time... it taught me a wealth of discipline.""When you change your life, you change your business as well.Connect and learn more about Ryan Malone.https://www.linkedin.com/in/ryan-malone-asm-55002499/If you enjoyed today's episode, please subscribe, review, and share with a friend who would benefit from the message. The solo challenge she set herself was to complete 12 challenges in 12 months, in quick succession. The challenges were multi-discipline and included the Devizes to Westminster international canoe race, an ironman, a multistage desert ultra-marathon, summit of Aconcagua, and a 1000 mile self supported Lands' End to John O'Groats cycle. None of the challenges were events she had attempted before and, in total, she covered over 3500km and climbed two of the Seven Summits. Jen has raised nearly £35,000 for the Veterans' Foundation and she continues to fundraise in her spare time by speaking about the challenges at schools, universities and business. She also has two outstanding challenges to go this year (replaced due to severe weather) which she will also fundraise for: paddle boarding across the English channel and climbing the famous Matterhorn. They explain how in recent years they've taken up extreme endurance Kayak events, crossing hundreds of miles of water without sleep, conquering the mental aspect of such challenges, and finding peace in such solitary pursuitsWe also dive into their most recent expedition, where they rowed the entire Atlantic Ocean as part of a 4 man crew in a boat no bigger than the average van - in a ruthless crossing that took 7 weeks. Rowing through 20-meter seas, having whales & sharks follow them for days & battling hallucinations after losing connection to their Spotify account! The anecdotes shared here about the row, and eventual arrival in Barbados where they finished the crossing, will have many listeners questioning the way they look at much less serious situations...I think this will be a fascinating insight into an entirely different way of living and looking at the world. Derek Dutton has a remarkably interesting story. From an early age, he knew he wanted to join the military. It was never a question of “if” … the only question was which branch he would choose. He chose the Army, and he dove in headfirst - literally. During a parachute jump, which was later described as a “parachute malfunction,” Derek had a pretty intense situation occur that led him to believe he is “fall-proof.” Pretty crazy! Dutton was built for the military and worked his way all the way up to become an Army Ranger. If you do not know what Army Rangers are then shame on you, but for those that may not know, they are the elite bad-assess of the Army. Dutton has served in various places throughout the world, completing two terms in Iraq. Deployment in the middle east takes its toll both mentally and physically. Unfortunately, the physical toll pushed Derek into early retirement and just like that, his military career was over. In this episode, Derek opens about some of his personal struggles with PTSD and some of the difficulties that he faced upon returning home. Many of our brave men and women in uniform return home from combat and are left to fend for themselves, not sure who to turn to, and feeling very isolated and alone. We at Beyond Grit feel it is our responsibility, as a nation, to rally together and support our troops. These heroes put their lives on the line for our freedoms and regardless of our personal beliefs about the war itself, these brave souls deserve to be supported by their fellow citizens. It has not been an easy road for Derek, but he has learned a lot about himself through this process. One of the most important lessons he has learned is knowing when to ask for help. In addition to his military career, he is an extreme sports enthusiast, marathon runner, and swimmer, a phenomenal writer, and blogger, and he helps others who are living with PTSD. We need more men like Derek Dutton. He has survived what many have not, and he is still fighting today. Please remember that their fight does not end on the battlefield, the battle only begins there. Thank you, Derek, for being on the show and sharing a bit about your life. You exemplify what it means to live a life Beyond Grit, and we honor and salute you. @rangersmash375

Host Brad Kearns welcomes former pro soccer player turned extreme endurance athlete turned mental training coach Luke Tyburski to talk about his remarkable journey in pursuit of the limits of human endurance performance and the profound ups and downs and life-altering lessons Luke has experienced along the way. After playing soccer at a high level in Australia and the USA, Luke plunged headlong into ultraendurance, with his first-ever running race the epic Marathon des Sables--a legendary six-day slog through the sandy Sahara Desert covering 155 miles over six days. Luke also ran 40 miles from Mt Everest base camp into Nepal despite an intestinal ailment that prevented him from eating or drinking anything for four days prior. He created his own 12-day "Ultimate Triathlon"," swimming the Gibraltar Strait (Spain to Morocco) and pedaling and running along the Mediterranean for 2,000 kilometers total. Check out the Amazon Prime documentary "The Ultimate Triathlon." Alas, these extreme efforts (and the grueling PR and logistics efforts behind the scenes) destroyed Luke's physical health and exacerbated his clinical depression. This forced him to reckon with his purpose and recalibrate on a journey of healing. Today Luke is a mental training coach for aspiring peak performances. He coaches and lectures about how to push through perceived barriers with the force of mind, while at the same time maintaining a commitment to leading a healthy, balanced life. His autobiography is called Chasing Extreme.

Extreme 2021 Santa Fe clutch-slipping, heat loading reverse torture test for Hyundai’s new eight-speed dual clutch transmission, in the driveway from hell. Save thousands on any new car (Australia-only): https://autoexpert.com.au/contact AutoExpert discount roadside assistance package: https://247roadservices.com.au/autoexpert/ Did you like this report? You can help support the channel, securely via PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=DSL9A3MWEMNBW&source=url In this report I thrash Hyundai's new 8sp DCT in the diesel 2021 Santa Fe for 12 rounds up the driveway from hell (tight, twisty and 5m ascent for 20-ish metres of lineal concrete). This is an example of a worst-case scenario for a transmission like this - times 12. Hyunda-Kia’s latest eight-speed DCT, by comparison, is a wet clutch system (meaning, the clutches operate in an oil bath) - and the oil is fed into an external convective cooler to manage overheating. This is a completely separate oil system - as in, the oil that cools the clutches is separate from the oil that lubricates the gears. Clutch durability is really simple to understand - all you need to know is that heat kills clutches. We’re about to put that to the test. Quite a severe one. I want to see for myself (and show you) whether or not I can induce a near-death heat experience in the Santa Fe diesel dual clutch, by doing some severe real-world reversing. And if it does go poopy in its trousers I’ll be reporting that, and doubtless there will be a terse telephone call with Hyundai, the temperature of which will be somewhat less than the clutch pack. If nothing else, you know how I always say: ‘Never buy a demonstrator.’? Yeah. Well, this would be one reason why. (Actually, it should be fine. I’m told the transmission has inbuilt thermal overload protection, but let’s find out anyway.) it strikes me that some of you really like the idea of buying a Santa Fe diesel (or its under-the-skin twin, the Kia Sorento diesel, which shares exactly the same powertrain) but some of you are somehow disinclined to buy a vehicle with a dual-clutch transmission - so scary - mainly thanks to Ford’s terrifying efforts, with its horrific ‘PowerShift’ dual-clutch transmission, and its appalling reliability. Let's try and get a definitive result on heavy load endurance and duty cycle tolerance for this transmission.
1/9/21 Today on the pod, I sit down with a fellow ski instructor at the resort, Jack Martin. Last week, we took our PSIA Alpine Level 1 exam. Day one is Movement Analysis; Day 2 is Skiing; and Day 3 is Teaching. Since Jack sleeps in his car when he comes up for the weekend from Boulder, I let him crash at my place during the exam and we really got into it on this one. Jack is getting his Ph.D. in Programing Languages through the Computer Science department and comes up the pass during the weekend to teach little kids how to ski, not a bad side gig if you ask me. On this episode, we drink Weihenstephaners as Jack describes his research in Programing Languages, the problem with our current political representation, avalanches, the extreme endurance races of Megavalanche and the Tour de France, and we answer the biggest question I've ever asked on this pod: What if LeBron James was a skier? Enjoy! https://www.instagram.com/codycast_101/

What does it feel like to bicycle from the southernmost point in the United States to the northernmost point? Alex Pekoff will tell you in this episode. It took him 86 days and involved fending off grizzly bears. You'll also hear about his running the length of New York state in two weeks. These are the types of things he does to explore the world and his potential en route to seeking a world record, the exact type to be determined. On Episode 30 of the show, The Dads discuss who they'd take on their team of four on an extreme endurance race and they're joined by Jay Cash to talk all things Kentucky Derby, a parent's worst nightmare and honoring the lives of Lute Olsen and Chadwick Boseman and much more!
Alexander Pekoff just finished running 560 miles across New York State from Niagara Falls to Montauk Point in 14 days. He ran an average of 39 miles a day, including running 102 miles consecutively on the last day to make it on schedule. Alexander also biked from Key West, Florida to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska in 89 days. The stories he tells of bear encounters and rugged days in the Alaskan wilderness are absolutely insane. This episode is perhaps the most inspirational I've recorded. For instance, Tim has completed the Arc2Arch: Run - 87 miles from Marble Arch in London to Dover, Swim - The English Channel, Bike - 181 miles from Calais to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. He is one of only two people to have completed the Arc2Arch and Uberman, an event in which you swim from 21 miles from Catalina Island to Los Angeles (a major event in itself!), cycle 400 miles to Badwater basin, the lowest point in North America, and then run 135 miles through Death Valley before ascending 13,000 feet to Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the Continental United States. He plans his own ultra-endurance events through his company Another Level Performance. Apart from Australia's longest open water swim, he has also organised Hard Bastard, where you: Swim - 35 km from Palm Beach to North Bondi, Bike - 620 km to Mount Kosciuszko, Run - 162 km in the Australian Alps. Extreme endurance adventurer Sean Conway is the first and only man in history to cycle, swim and run the length of Britain. In 2015, Sean cycled 3,350 miles from Lulworth Cove to Scarborough on a bamboo bike. At Scarborough, Sean swapped his bike for running shoes and took 1.5 million steps to Brighton, where he did his final leg - a 390,000 stroke swim, across two intensive weeks, all the way back to where he started. The self-supported, 4000+ mile, continuous Ultra Triathlon was filmed by the Discovery Chanel and propelled Sean into the record books. In this episode of the podcast Sean explains how he became an ‘adventurer’, how he remains focussed when competing, why he thinks high risk goals lead to success, how to make sure failure isn’t an option and why accountability and proving the naysayers wrong fuels his motivation. This is a memorable and entertaining episode and Sean’s message is powerful and provides a recipe for positive attitude and coping with setbacks. . Audio Question from Johnny @ 00:21:15 He really enjoys swimming (with his kids) but he gets red, itchy skin and sometimes even welts. Is there anything he can do about that? Also, should he be concerned about the amount of chlorine in the water in his shower? ~ In my response, I mention this podcast with Dr. David Getoff. And a full spectrum antioxidant like Lifeshotz. I recommend this shower head water filter for chlorine. And also this whole house water filtration unit. Audio Question from Alexander @ 00:37:53 Is going on a triathlon camp for 8 days (swim, bike and run everyday). Do you have any advice on how to fuel for those 8 days so he doesn't feel terrible (from overtraining) for a week afterwards. He has a history with overtraining and doesn't want to experience that again. ~ In my response, I recommend my article on high volume fueling. Audio Question from Bill @ 00:45:52 Have you done any research on the supplements "Resolve Advanced Pre-workout Anabolic Primer" offered by Dr. Di Pasquale? Audio Question from John @ 00:50:27 Has lost 90lbs, stopped taking insulin and has done 20 triathlons. Is currently almost immobilized by spinal stenosis and nerve compression in the lower back. Has been looking into TENS units for pain relief. Could you comment on Dr. Ho's TENS unit and his decompression belt. ~ In my response, I discuss the Dr. Ho belts and also TENS units. Audio Question about MAT @ 00:56:58 She has been competing in Triathlons for 8 years (top age grouper). Has neuromas in her feet and has had trouble with her hamstrings, gluteus (especially during her long runs). Has done ART, massage and foam rolling but felt they were just bandaids. She is now using Muscular Activation Technique (MAT). What do you think of MAT? Is it worth the time and money? ~ In my response, I reference the Advanced Muscle Integration Technique and this MAT Client FAQ. Audio Question from Tim @ 01:04:12 Has started using Extreme Endurance and it really seemed to help with recovery and muscle soreness but his teeth have started to get discoloured. He went to the dentist and they thought that something in his diet was leaching magnesium and/or iron. The dentist figured that Time was likely getting enough of both of these minerals from his diet (kale, spinach, broccoli). Do you think it is possible that EE was leaching these minerals into his teeth? Audio Interview with Daniela Knight @ 01:13:00 Daniela is our first MyList featured interview.
