Hi and welcome to Decomposed Radio 094.  Featuring on today's show is experimental artist and producer Kayla Painter, who's immersive audio- visual performances and productions have been impressing and delighting audiences in equal measure for several years now. Kayla's music has been played and critically acclaimed by Mary Anne Hobbs, Giles Peterson, Steve Lamacq and Tom Ravenscroft... to name but a few. The mix she's recorded not only gives a fantastic sonic journey, but also a unique insight into her musical tastes and influences, crammed ful of light and mellow and tougher, darker moments. Also a keen climber, Kayla's appearance on Decomposed Radio is the perfect example of only ever being one person removed from knowing someone through climbing, after a chance meeting on a South Wales sea cliff and the realisation that we have a mutual acquantance.... friend of the show Niall Grimes. So big up Grimer! Nice one! For more information on Kayla head to her website www.kaylapainter.com and follow her musical and climbing journeys on instagram. Welcome to Decomposed Radio 093. Here at Techno Towers, we're still reeling from the amazing "galloWay fEST" up in the Scottish Borders which  was an incredible display of the talent and creativity that we're lucky enough to be surrounded by, which was the original inspiration to creating the podcast, to give it all a platform. With that in mind welcome another new artist to the Decomposed Radio Roster... Funkness Device. Also known as Steve Cox he's a "lifer" climber now living out in Spain, but still with firm roots in the Peak District. The set we're featuring today was recorded at "Tribe of Frog" in Spain where it went down an absolue storm. For those of you not in the know... Tribe of Frog are the UK's legendary psychadelic party producers originating in Bristol that specialise in spectacular decor, cutting edge techno, psy-trance and more. It still runs regularly down in Bristol, while the original owners Chris and Donna Rana continue to put on nights out in the Costa Blanca, featuring sun, sea, cervezas, psy-trance and techno...... which all sounds pretty good to me! As a DJ, Funkness Device likes to take the crowd on a journey, which is definitely what it's all about and as such his mix is a bit of a marathon mission through nu disco, breakbeats, tech house, dark deep acid techno and psy-trance.... so definitely something for everyone!! So settle yourselves in and get lost in the music. This is Decomposed Radi show 093, with Funkness Device........

You're back with Decomposed Radio! For show 92 we're heading back to 1992, and the release date of one of my favourite albums... "Experience" by the Prodigy. It's high time to flip the cassette and check out side 2 of "Sam's Piano Tape" that I know alot of people have been waiting for. We've had some incredible feedback and psyche from Side 1 on Show 91 and it seems everyone's really enjoyed turning the clock back to a simpler time with great vibes and great sounds! Piano house, happy hardcore and bouncy techno are what it's all about, and smiling faces at wild warehouse raves are clearly the order of the day. I'll keep it brief, as those of you that have listened to show 91 are fully clued up by now, but I just want to do a big shout out and thanks to Sam Townsend for providing the psyche and energy to get these two amazing mixes onto the show.If you enjoy both sides of Sam's Piano Tape as much as everyone seems to be then it's worth rewinding the Decomposed Radio clock and checking out show number 12 all the way back in 2016. The "Back 2 Skool Mix" featured on that show should definitely hit some of the same notes! We're rapidly hurtling towards our one hundredth show, so expect something very special for that, not to mention some mixes from Decomposed Radio favourites over the next few months. In the meantime however, here's what you've all been waiting for......... Sam's Piano Tape side 2.....for Decomposed Radio show 092. Get those hands right back in the air!!!!!

For Decomposed Radio show 091 we're rewinding back to the early 90's. The dole and Stoney Dale scene of the 80's has given way to bolts in Chee Dale and sport climbing trips to Buoux or Ceuse, whilst the gritstone lies asleep, waiting for the release of Hard Grit a few years later to re-awaken the psyche. Bouldering is in it's infancy, and nobody has even heard of a crash pad, however...... there is another new and growing scene reaching fever pitch around Hunter's Bar... RAVING!! Dance music has yet to really split into it's sub genres, but by far the most fun and main focus for the time was "happy hardcore" and "bouncy techno." If there didn't happen to be on the infamous "Foundry parties" happening, gags of climbers could be seen piling ito 205 GTI's, giddy with excitement and heading off for all nighters such as the BYO in Doncaster, or Vibalite in Mansfield. Pre instgram, facebook, CDJ's and Traktor, one take vinyl mixes were carefully and lovingly recorded on C90 cassettes. Sam Townsend, and student in Manchester at the time had brought such a mixtape back home to Hathersage where it resided at his holiday job behind the counter at Outside. Simply known as "Sam's Piano Tape" it became a massive favourite with the crew there and before long, it seemed that half the Sheffield climbing scene had a copy! Despite the kudos Sam earned, he guiltily admits it wasn't his wizardry behind the decks, but that of his mate Sunil's with whom he's long since lost tough. (If you're out there listening Sunil.. RESPECT!!!) Luckily the tape survived despite hundreds of plays, and Sam's managed to get it digitised and cleaned up.  So here it is for your listening pleasure.... get your white gloves out, crack out the glow sticks, shout out to the whistle posse and get your hands in the air... for Sam's Piano Tape side 1, on Decomposed Radio #091........

Welcome to Decomposed Radio show 084. As promised, we've not just got show favourites lined up, but also some new up and coming faces, the first of which is "Cavey." Well known in climbing and mountaineering circles, Andy Cave is another example of a very accomplished climber for whom music is a key part of life and general psyche, and has channeled their creative energies into DJing with fantastic results. Brought up in a house full of vinyl, Cavey was always set to develop a classy and eclectic musical taste including the sounds of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the Indie and Acid House scene. This combined with witnessing DJ sets by many of the greats at iconic events like the early days of Sonar and Cocoon in The Park, was always set to result in a great creative output with his DJing. After a blistering debut mix of house, breaks and techno at the legendary Hendre Hall, plenty more sets have followed at venues such as Sheffield's Burton Street Community Centre, The Foundry, and loads of other indoor and outdoor parties. He's worked super hard on his DJ skills and really relishes the craft, so the mix he's put together for show 84 is all set to become a Decomposed classic in line with show favourites like Sophie Keltie, Haaayz and Freeborn Man. Welcome back to lockdown with Decomposed Radio! Once upon a time in Sheffield, 2 Spanish climbers came to visit and get amongst the unique scene that a lot of us know and love so well. They became affectionately know as "Spanish Number One" and "Spanish Number Two" and stayed for a year or two having a great time enjoying both climbing and epic techno nights! Even after their return to Spain, they once came back to visit for one amazing night to see Ben Klock at Fabric in London, before getting the plane back at 8am, which gives you some idea of the psyche and commitment of these lads, also known as Unai and 8c Kev. On the back of their experience in the UK, Unai even opened a wall back in Spain, called "The Climb" which is an awesome little slice of Sheffield all that way away in Madrid! So when Spanish Number 2 recently got in touch recommending a talented friend for Decomposed Radio, I knew we were onto a winner as these guys are definitely techno connoisseurs. So, on that note...Enter "Hattom" who's been an established techno DJ since 1999, and is a veteran of tons of underground techno parties and club nights in Madrid. He's recorded a phenomenal dark mix of deep, ambient, industrial and tough techno, with everything in between. It's another real sonic journey with incredible sounds and atmospheres, all set to be a podcast favourite. So big up to the legends over in Madrid, and thanks to Jakob for the fantastic mix. Speaking of which, the next few shows will feature sets from the 2 rooms at the Climbing Works Party; Solid techno from the main room, and some weird and wonderful stuff from the amazing "Rave Cave" which had me unexpectedly dancing like a lunatic on the night! First up on the techno side of things, is this year's special guest "E-Kul" who kicked things into overdrive in the main room around 3am! He's been DJing, and promoting and running techno nights since the age of 16, when he managed to scrape together enough money to buy a pair of decks and a 2-channel mixer. Nights like "Havok" at Phoenix Club as well as the legendary "Orbit" were major influences, as well as artists like Ben Sims, Jeff Mills, Speedy J and UR. All this results in a high energy, tough and fast style which you'll hear in the mix today, but the great thing about this type of techno is that it still has a real tangible groove to it, which drives it along nicely! Amongst all the amazing musical talent on show across an apocalyptic 3 days, were a fair few new faces, so I'll be making it my mission over the next month or so to pin some of these individuals down and showcase them here. First up amongst these is "Middleman" who's very kindly replicated his sublimely deep but subtlely groovy set from the Saturday night of the party weekend. Despite it being one of his first outings, he looks as at home behind the decks as pretty much anyone I've ever seen, and his track selection and mixing are second to none. So turn it up, and get psyched... for Middleman, in the mix for Decomposed Radio show 70......

You're back again with Decomposed radio, and a welcome return from podcast favourite Stacie-Ann Churchman, who helped us launch the Decomposed project back in the day, with a storming mix of deep, dark and very tough techno for only the 2nd ever show!! Since then, tons of people have been pecking us to get her back on the podcast, so I'm super psyched to feature her again, this time with a slightly more leftfield mix, with the same high quality as we've come to expect. Three years on from Decomposed Radio show #002, Stacie-Ann's still doing her thing music and techno wise, and has some exciting, if secret projects in the pipeline with various labels. She's promised to keep us in the loop, so watch this space and we'll ensure to word you up when the time comes! If you've not checked her outrageously good mix from show number 002 out, we highly recommend you do ASAP, but in the meantime, I'm happy to welcome back Stacie-Ann Churchman, in the mix, for Decomposed Radio show #069...........

Welcome to a very special Decomposed Radio 3rd anniversary show! Just over 3 years ago, I had a bit of a mad "eureka" type moment when I realised just how much amazing musical talent that I was surrounded by in my extended circle of friends, family and artists that I'd been lucky enough to share the decks with at some amazing events and parties over the years, and decided to create a podcast with the aim of showcasing some of these talented individuals. Decomposed Radio was born, and since then it's snowballed along nicely, and I'm really proud of the collection of amazing artists and mixes that we've accumulated, and made accessible to people. For the third anniversary show, it was always gonna have to be something pretty special, and I wanted to put together something a bit different, so I roped in Decomposed radio favourite DJ Galup, also know as Sam Whittaker, for a special B2B mix alongside myself. We got psyched and got the beers in, turned up the speaker volume and with no real plan just dived headlong straight into a freestyle 2 hour recording session that seemed to fly by in no time! I'm really happy with the end result, which is a full excursion through some great and varied techno records, with each of us reading each others mind with track selection at times and randomly jumping into the mix to layer in extra tracks and effects to spice things up! It's also a bit of a battle between the light and the darkness, with us both pulling in different directions throughout the two hours, which hopefully gives it a good dynamic, and keeps it interesting. Huge huge thanks to all the listeners for your support, pyche and encouragement over the years. Please please keep sharing and spreading the word, it really does help us do what we do!! So now.....Decomposed Radio presents...... Galup vs GusN8r.....a special back 2 back mix for the 3 year anniversary show! It's not going off.......it's gone off.......

This time round I'm super psyched to welcome "Anagramm" one of the original founding members of the incredible "Sheffield Techno Institute" who are to blame for putting on the best local techno nights and parties for the last 10 years! Also known as Fred Oxby, I've been really looking forward to getting him on the show. He's a highly accomplished musician, producer and DJ, having been at the helm of UK label "Planet Terror Records" as well as enjoying releases on "Red Skull Records" from Hungary, and French Label "Pavillion 36." The mix he's put together for show 067, is one of my favourie off- genre sets on the show for quite a while, featuring all things funky, wonky and ravey, including amen breaks, house, and good old detroit techno, all put together with a pair of technica and a pile of quality vinyl! It's high time for another Decomposed Radio, and for our 66th show we're again heading over to deepest darkest North Wales, which has become a bit of a techno hotbed! Today's mix is provided by "Translate" a DJ/ producer duo consisting of local artists "Becket" and "Vidian." Becket's solo mix of outstanding techno all the way back on show 024 is still one of the most downloaded episodes, and when these two guys team up under the Translate alias they concentrate on the darker, deeper and sometimes more simplistic industrial sound of techno. As such the mix you're about to hear will be a real treat for the purists out there! Becket and Vidian have only been performing together as Translate for around 6 months now, and this will be the first mix that they're putting out there, so we're incredibly honoured to be featuring it here on Decomposed Radio. Translate will be playing the closing set of the Gottwood Festival on Anglesey later this year, so if you're in North Wales on the 9th of June definitely check that out! I can also highly recommend that you head over to Soundcloud for more information on these guys, as well as original productions, tracks and loads more mixes. I've been on a bit of a mission for quite some time to track down all the individual tracks and finally managed to get them all together, thanks to one of the original producers of the film, Rich Heap. It's been an amazing experience being able to listen to the music as standalone tracks, they really do stand out, and even capture a particular time in the Sheffield music scene, with the origins of labels such as "Warp Records" and the Bleep 'n' Bass genre! There's an impressive variety of music in the film, from dark brooding numbers through to some really beautiful electronica, so I hope I've done it justice mixing it all together! Predictably it turned out to be a little tricky to get mixes and recordings together whilst based out of a tent in the outback! I'm happy to say though, that we're back on it now, and have some great plans, including some quality Antipodean talent that we discovered in Melbourne, and a mix of the amazing music from the iconic climbing film "Hard Grit." Today's show is inspired by one of the labels that we re-stumbled across whilst researching and collecting the music from Hard Grit, the equally iconic "Platipus Records". Platipus Records was the brainchild of artist and producer Simon Berry, and was a super popular and successful trance label throughout the 90's and well into the naughties. The release "Platipus Archives Volume Three and Four" includes the track "Chrome" by Chromium, which Slackjaw film used to great effect in the bouldering segment of Hard Grit. Show 045 is a departure from the usual house and techno fayre on Decomposed Radio, and features some great trance tracks, all from that release. The climbers amongst you will no doubt recognise the iconic track, as well as some serious anthems........

So keep your eyes and ears peeled for that, in the meantime get amongst this feisty, funky old skool techno mix from GusN8r......
