This time I revisit a show from long ago on Wine Etiquette. In this Back-to-Basics episode, I cover the three main places you would use etiquette - a dinner party, a restaurant, and a tasting room. I address: The Dinner Party: What to bring a host, a good welcome drink, whether or not to open a bottle that a guest brings, the etiquette of what to do with the last glass in the bottle, and the point in the night to serve your best wine. I also talk about the proper way to pour, how high to fill a wine red or white wine glass, and whether or not to display a bottle you have decanted. Source: Des Moines Register The Restaurant: I review every step of wine ordering from perusing the menu to looking at the cork to approving the wine. I discuss the interaction with a sommelier and what to do with large groups, and how to handle a restaurant that serves less than fresh wine by the glass. I touch on giving the waiter a taste of a special wine and some ideas of what to do at a BYO restaurant. Tasting rooms: When to make a reservation, what to wear, tasting room fees, spitting, commenting/ask questions, and the most pressing question people have: what to tip tasting room staff. I tried to cover everything, but if you still have questions, feel free to reach out! Full show notes and all back episodes are on Patreon. In much of the world, fall has arrived: a time for pumpkin spiced fajitas, cozy, warm L'eggs (TM), and candy corn suppositories. But in the magical world of Beatlefestlandia, it's always 85 degrees, Simon Kirke is hanging out with Eddie Deezen, and everyone gets a picture sleeve of Ringo's “You're 16”! Let's Huey Lewis and the Fake News (#Fox) our way back in time, to August, as we proudly present - in colour! - the global podcast premiere of “The Beatlefest for Beatles Fans”! BYO colostomy bag o'wine, as Tony, T.J., Producer Casey, P3Z-Nutz, and a Sgt. Pepper movie finale-worthy cast of thousands (tens?) head to Rosemont to kick summer's lazy ass one last time. Incredibly (bit much?), this year marks the UB3 (#Cantaloop) sharing the Fest for Beatles Fans together, as a trio, for what feels like the first time! Feels like the very first time! Speaking of Foreigner, If the Roman Emperor from 54 to 68 AD, a.k.a. “The Antichrist”, was a fan, would he have been a Juke Box Nero? (Angry Chicago guy: AND HOW COME THEY ASK JAGBAG QUESTIONS NOW BEFORE THEY EVEN GET TO THE PART OF THE BLURB WHERE THEY SAY THEY'RE GONNA ASK DUMBASS QUESTIONS? AND HOW COME CHICAGO MEDIA DON'T COVER THE WHITE SOX NO MORE JUST CAUSE THEY AIN'T IN THE PLAYOFFS? AND HOW COME THE WOKE BLACKHAWKS GOT A THEME NIGHT DEDICATED TO…”) Sssssh. He's asleep. We take Beyond Rockets on the road—straight into a golf bay. Co-owners Kerry and Jassen Garner share how their “fun factory” idea became The Golf Lab, South Huntsville's new indoor golf hub offering public bookings and 24/7 member access. We dig into why they chose UNEEKOR launch monitors with multi-camera capture, an AI swing trainer, session logging, and exportable shot data—plus how GS Pro unlocks 1,700+ courses (from The Ledges and Gunters Landing to Pebble Beach, Augusta, and TPC Sawgrass). You'll hear the origin story, the build-out behind Whitesburg & Airport (near First Watch), and everything planned: PGA-pro lessons, leagues and tournaments, corporate and birthday events, and a grand opening on October 20, complete with a $10,000 hole-in-one challenge (they're open now, with free demos). We also walk through on-course practice, putting on sim vs. the in-house green, BYO food & drink, and how the system learns your game to suggest clubs and even build a handicap. Stick around for a live range session and a par-3 at The Ledges—mulligan included.https://www.thegolflab.clubhttps://www.instagram.com/golflabhuntsville/SponsorYellowhammer is a local craft brewery serving Huntsville for the past 14 years. Lagers have been having a moment for a long time now. In this current age of brewing, there are many small breweries that are giving the time and attention to making lagers of note. We have two guests here that will explain how to best approach the style, and bring great pints to your patrons.Andreas Miller has over 20 years of experience in the brewing industry, and has been an adjunct instructor, consultant, and one of the brewers for the Siebel Institute's pilot and research brewing department since 2023. A graduate of Doemens Akademie in Munich, Andreas has worked as a brewmaster for a number of breweries large and small internationally, and provided consulting services for many breweries worldwide. His expertise covers practically every phase of brewing, packaging, and engineering operations, along with troubleshooting.Daren Orr and business partner Matt Bartle decided that the town of South Hero, Vermont, would benefit from a public house with community (and great beer) at the forefront. While watching the brewery market for over a decade, they believed that a small town nano brewpub would be a stable model to both produce beer and run a local restaurant so opened Two Heroes Brewery in 2020 and expanded to their current brewpub public house in 2023. They believe that community is the most important aspect of the town and they serve to fill the void for a local gathering place for community members and visitors alike. And in keeping with the theme this month, they are brewing some lagers of note. The BYO Nano Podcast Episode 69 is sponsored by:FermentisAre you ready to add a cider to your brews? Today’s show had everything from savage kids to savage exes. We kicked off with hilarious one-liners from kids that could roast a room better than any comedian. Then came the Kentucky ex who went full glitter-bomb on her boyfriend’s car and caused nearly $20k worth of damage. Tim’s ever-growing list of bizarre life rules made another appearance, and we dove into some truly unhinged tales from the ER including a bloke who thought AA batteries could give him energy from the inside. We also debated the wild BYO trend after a woman pulled a rotisserie chicken from her purse, and Nova legend Rosso joined us for Quick Draw.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

He began recording and producing with the group and eventually joined to record their first album, C0002. Inspired by the punk rock and DIY movements of SST, BYO and Dischord Records tracks, in 1989 Happoldt created the logo and label Skunk Records and released the Ziggens' album on cassette. In 1990, Happoldt moved to Long Beach, California, where he met Sublime's Bradley Nowell at a party. Happoldt invited Sublime to make some live-to-DAT recordings. Happoldt has been involved in some capacity with the Long Beach Dub Allstars, the supergroup Volcano, Lucky Boys Confusion, Unwritten Law, Slightly Stoopid, and Long Beach Shortbus.

In Australia, alcohol is often portrayed as part of social life—especially at BBQs, sporting events, and public holidays. Customs like BYO, where you bring your own drinks to gatherings, and 'shouting' rounds at the pub are part of the culture. However, because of the health risks associated with alcohol, there are regulations in place. It's also important to understand the laws around the legal drinking age, where you can buy or consume alcohol, and how these rules vary across states and territories. - Možda ste čuli da Australci vole konzumirati alkohol, osobito tijekom velikih sportskih događaja ili državnih praznika. No to je samo dio slagalice. Razgovor o alkoholu u Australiji uključuje i ozbiljnu štetu koju on može prouzročiti pojedincima i obiteljima.

Send us a textHi lovely, and welcome back to Sober-ish Sparkle! I'm Belinda Stark, and in this bite-sized solo episode, I'm diving into something so many of us sober and sober-curious women struggle with: socialising without alcohol.Recently, I attended a business retreat – almost two and a half years into sobriety – and I found myself experiencing some serious social anxiety. I share what came up for me, how I unpacked it, and why it's so important to challenge the internal stories we tell ourselves when we're in social settings where alcohol flows freely.Whether you're newly sober, curious about cutting back, or simply want to feel more confident navigating nights out without alcohol, this episode is packed with practical, real-life tips to support you. Here's what I cover in this episode:Why it's totally normal to feel socially awkward when you're not drinkingHow to reframe social anxiety as a cue - not a cravingMy personal reflection from a recent retreat and what it taught me about mindsetThe difference between urges and discomfort (and how to recognise both)10 actionable, easy-to-implement strategies to help you show up confidently in drinking environmentsKey Takeaways & Actions:Have a Script Ready – Learn polite, assertive (and even funny!) ways to say "no thanks" when offered a drink.Plan Your Drink – Scope the bar or drinks menu ahead of time or BYO alcohol-free bubbles.Avoid the Rounds Trap – Don't get caught in shout culture if you're trying to moderate or stay dry.Use the Bathroom as a Reset – Step away, breathe deeply, and recenter when it all feels too much.Reframe the Moment – Recognise social anxiety and shift the focus from fear to curiosity.Play the Tape Forward – A powerful mental strategy to help you visualise how you'll feel tomorrow.Create an Exit Plan – Have a graceful excuse ready to leave early if needed (no guilt!).Keep a Glass in Your Hand – This simple trick helps avoid awkward questions and blends you in.Use Affirmations & Mantras – "I choose clarity over cocktails" is one of my faves.Remember Your Why – You don't have to justify it, but you can celebrate it.Whether you're sipping sparkling water or a beautifully garnished AF mocktail, your presence and clarity are the real party starters. If this episode gave you even one helpful tip, I'd love you to screenshot and share it, leave a review, or send it to someone who's exploring sobriety or moderation.

Most children outgrow monsters under the bed—this kid just watched them relocate the landscaping. From a shrub that ripped itself out of the soil and strolled across the sidewalk to jump‑rope ghost kids politely waving from the bedroom wall, one Albuquerque duplex became a paranormal playground no adult ever noticed. Add a neon, see‑through Freddy Krueger peering from a floor heater, a mute clown perched on the backyard wall, toys battling gladiator‑style at 3 a.m., and a Lady in White who thought bath time was BYO‑specter, and you've got a childhood scrapbook no therapist could label “normal.” This is a daily EXTRA from The Grave Talks. These are confusing times, and hard times to work in a small business. As Bart Watson of the Brewers Association recently said, beer makers really dislike uncertainty. So, how can anyone plan when the global supply chain is changing minute by minute? On this epidode we talk about how to budget for the unknown. The last few months have seen a fire hose of news coming out of Washington D.C., a lot centered around tariffs and global trade. Admittedly, it's difficult to do a show on the topic because of the chaotic nature of the rollout from the White House and how seemingly concrete plans crumble minutes after they are announced. This obviously creates uncertainty in the markets and on main street. This episode features two conversations that center around what might be coming and how to best prepare. Bart Watson the president and CEO of the Brewers Association talks about the bigger picture and then Audra Gaiziunas of Brewed for Her Ledger tells us how you can best budget for uncertainty. How can your brewery make the most out of the holidays? More than just slinging stout on St. Patrick's Day, or a festbier during Oktoberfest, there are ways to create a welcoming vibe that will get people coming back year after year and can establish your brewery as a hospitable spot. One person who has been working to crack the code is Sam McNulty. He has developed and operates seven restaurants and breweries on West 25th Street in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland's Near West Side. Three of these concepts are brewpubs of vastly different scale: One a nano brewery where experimental beers are concocted, while another is a brewpub restaurant with close to five hundred seats, and in 2016 he rebuilt a 43,000 square foot warehouse that dates back to the 1800s and launched a full-scale production brewery sending Market Garden Brewery beers out across Northeast and Central Ohio.He has lived largely car-free in Ohio City for the past 20+ years. And one of his guiding investment principles is to nest his businesses within a 15-minute bicycle ride from the Market Garden Brewery. As one of his former professors once said: “Sam is a beer entrepreneur fermenting the rise of a post-industrial frontier with opportunity galore. Sam is building on the Pride of Cleveland.”The BYO Nano Podcast Episode 63 is sponsored by:FermentisHow can you make your beer stand out? While it is rewarding and exciting to own a small brewery, there is also a lot of worry that comes with it. Over time things can snowball, accumulate, and become a burden. Regular check-ins on mental health are important, and no matter who you are in the brewing space, or your role, taking care of yourself is paramount. That's the focus on this episode. Everyone is feeling the stress these days. From outside influences to internal worry, everyone is carrying a lot of weight on their shoulders. If you're running a small business, the worry of your staff is on you as well. While there are many things in our control, there are also a lot of things that are simply not easily dealt with. Finding balance from within and managing what you can is important to mental health. Being pulled in a dozen different directions all at once rarely brings calm, but by focusing on what you can control and finding the moments - or longer - to take a break adds up to a better human experience. Of course there are other considerations to mental health in the beer space, and other challenges to navigate. To get a better understanding on what is available out there and how to best access it, we're pleased to be joined by J Jackson-Beckham, the Director of Member Resources for the Brewers Association, better known in the industry as Dr. J.A former professor of Communication Studies, Dr. J dedicated her academic career to the study of American beer. She is an author, speaker, vocal advocate for the craft beverage community, homebrewer, and Certified Cicerone. In 2018, Dr. J was named the Brewers Association's first-ever Diversity Ambassador. In 2020, she was named Imbibe Magazine's Beer Person of the Year. Today, she helps craft beverage organizations develop practices that drive success, build communities, and empower individuals as the Brewers Association Director of Member Resources. The BYO Nano Podcast Episode 62 is sponsored by:RahrBSG / Gambrinus IPA MaltGambrinus IPA Malt possesses an elusive color falling between very pale pilsner and golden pale ale malt.
