Monica has picked a fantastic Ambush Episode with 16 Candles. David has never seen it before and it's John Hughes first movie. It's a classic: full of problematic moments, 80's fashion and some great one liners. Join us!
"You know what I am...?" "Ugly all day." Con Air may be David's all time guilty pleasure movie. Not a lot of logic, not the best acting, and some of the actors hated making the movie. This Ambush Episode David makes Monica watch CON AIR. "Sorry boss, but there's only two men I trust. One of them's me. The other's not you." It has one of his favorite actors: M. C. Gainey. He plays the character "Swamp Thing."
This was a FANTASTIC podcast as Monica introduces David to the 1959 classic “Some Like It Hot.” Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. David has never seen it before. And … how did it go?
This movie … has been super influential for more reasons than you realize. Here are two key points: 1) it’s the first Marvel Movie, and 2) it created Pixar. Listen to the podcast to hear more!
With our new Disney+ account we can watch Disney classics … CLASSICS. Disney movies that have truly dark edges to them. A great example of is when David makes Monica watch The Black Hole!! AMBUSH EPISODE!
After the Star Wars watching, and let’s say there is another R2D2 fan in the universe.
Now, we talk with someone who has never seen Star Wars before (Kate) and what she thinks it will be about. We ask her about her expectations, what order all the Star Wars Movies should be in, and run some names by her … even though she has never seen them. Part 2 will be *after* she has watched Star Wars: A New Hope
We’ve NOW seen High School Musical for the first time …and listen to David Nerd Rage! Not really. It hits the mark, and the person who champions the movie (Kate) is the England even though the movie takes place in the United States. And Ms. Darbus is a just a weaker version of Professor Umbridge. (someone had to say it)
Our friend, Kate Swift (Mischief Managed Improv) joins us for a MOVIE MATCH OFF. We pit two movies against each other. One Kate has never seen, and one Monica and I have never seen. We watched: HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL Monica and I have never seen this one. This first part is what Monica and I *think* High School Musical will be about.
The second part of this series. We get onto Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Stay safe. Love you all. Connect to others.
Whenever we have David Elliott on, you know it’s going to be a good Nerdisode. It’s like when Jack Harkness is on Doctor Who, or when Bubba Duck was on Ducktales, or when Q was on Star Trek: Next Generation. Those were the ones you wanted to watch! We’re all on lockdown and #Covid19 is keeping us from gathering in groups. So, this Nerdisodes is about the “Best Episode to Watch in These Times #Covid19.” David goes really light hearted (with a twist) and brings out Chip n Dale’s Rescue Rangers – the intro alone gets you bopping along. Only this episode is about the Coocoo Cola Cult. Fun, with twists and a great female lead episode. Gadget is a warrior princess. Monica picks a fan favorite and goes to one of the Halloween episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. What a well written and cast show. Such a strong ensemble. These light hearted and wholesome shows are great to watch now and in the future. Stay safe everyone! NOTE: this was a longer episode so it had to be broken down in 2 Parts + there was a clicking in the first recording, so we had to re-do the second part.
In honor of the New Year we talk about which TV Series we think is the best reboot. And honestly, it was tough … Monica picks Sabrina from Netflix, a new dark re-telling of the 1996 series. Which is then a retelling of the comic book series! It is good. There was a lot to choose from, but a new series on David’s radar, Titans, got his vote. The Titans is a dark reboot of the cartoon, which then is a reboot of the comic book. Netflix is just KILLING it right now!
David brings the heat and asks the DaM Studios “what is the best TV series of all time.” David talks about the people in his neighborhood with all the diversity, creativity, education and hard hitting topics of Sesame Street. They discuss death, 9/11, children with incarcerated parents but they also do parodies of Star Wars, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and others. It’s a truly dynamic and iconic show. Monica picks Twilight Zone. We talk about storytelling and some really strange trivia about the show. Like Rod Serling smoking but not smoking. One of the most parodied TV series of all time, and to this day people still know “picture if you will…”
We finish our talk about Jim Jones possibly being one of the real devils on earth. You get us talking about cult leaders or serial killers and we never shut up! We’re fans of True Crime. Please like, comment and share!
The world spins, and you have to spin with it. Monica challenges the DaM Studios with which TV episode had the best devil. Monica picks one of her recent favorite TV Series, Lucifer. Tom Ellis’ portrayal of Lucifer and how the series conveys it allows us to talk about “sexy people” and cop shows. David goes more literal, and picks someone who may be a real devil. He picks the real life person, Jim Jones. Jim Jones was the cult leader who began the People’s Temple and moved them to Brazil where he convinced 900 people to commit suicide. So David picked, Inside the Criminal Mind, a Netflix original, focuses on cult leaders.
“Sashay, you stay” David brought forth the Nerdisode Challenge: which TV episode had the best shoes. David finally brings in one of his favorite series (yes, another cartoon) Rick &Morty. In the first episode Marty has gravity cancelling shoes! They talk about fan theories and misophonia. Monica rises to the challenge and brings in a GREAT series Ru Paul’s Drag Race! We talk about our time in West Hollywood, the challenges for people who dress in drag, and also about Ru Paul. Ru Paul is such an amazing and inspirational person. Wubbalubbadubdub!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN AGAIN! It’s the second half of our Halloween Special with guest Ed Dale as we watch Stephen King’s IT!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! It’s our Finale of Season 2! Woot! Thank you for listening and following. This episode we ask our friend Ed Dale to offer up one of his all-time favorite movies, and it’s IT. Such a great choice for Halloween, but also lots to talk about in the Stephen King Mythos. We talk about personal scary experiences and also some movie facts about IT. Did you know it is the highest grossing Stephen King movie of all time? So much to talk about we split it into two episodes. Enjoy Part One of … IT.
Last episode got us talking about terrifying moments in TV so Monica was inspired to challenge us this time with episode of TV that just MESSED with our FRAGILE MINDS. Monica picks an EXCELLENT series which we just discovered called Inside No. 9. Incredible writing across the board, in every single episode. But she specifically picked”12 Days of Christine.” Such amazing storytelling. David picks an episode he had JUST talked about … perhaps the darkest moment in a fictional TV series … HOME from the X-Files. Get ready to be disturbed.
We talk so much evil, demon, spirits, and real life ghost encounters. We pride ourselves on being honest so these stories and experiences we share are 100% honest. David picks a little known anthology TV series from Canada called Fear Itself. Meant to be sort of the “horror version” of the Twilight Zone, there are a few episodes that are worth mentioning, but we talk about the pilot episode which is a classic monster episode told really well. Monica goes supernatural and picks Supernatural. Loved the episode so much … we have since decided to binge watch the entire 14 season series with 300+ episodes. Such a great dynamic between Dean and Sam (and their car). We also talk about our own personal horror/scary experiences.
You are entering a world, a world of sight. A world of sound … Monica asks the DaM Studios which TV episode has the best use of puppets. Monica picks an episode of Angel called “Smile Time” where demonic puppets battle the heroes at Wolfram and Hart. It is crazy dark! David chooses an episode from the classic Twilight Zone series called “The Dummy.” Maybe one of the most frightening concepts brought to the screen.
David asks the DaM Recording Studio what was the “biggest shock” of a TV Series. David brings in Justified, which he considers one of the best overall series. No bad seasons and it knows how to end the entire story. We cut to Season 3, when Limehouse hits berserker mode. Monica champions Downton Abbey. We talk Maggie Smith, we talk their hair/costumes and also that shocking episode which aired on Christmas.
What’s up doc? Monica bring a good challenge to the DaM Recording Studios and explores the question “what is the best musical episode on TV?" She goes to one of her favorite episodes of all time and picks “Once More With Feeling” from Season 6 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Great capture of the musical genre, with some really dark reveals in the episode. They go the mustard out!! David takes us back to the classic Looney Tunes and pulls forward “Rabbit of Seville” starring that wascally wabbit, Bugs Bunny. Set to the tune of Barber of Seville this episode pulls forth some classic bits and still – after over 50 years, manages to make us laugh. Thank you for supporting us. And looking forward to having you visit us again! Please share, like and support our little grassroots project.
We have with us in the DaM Recording Studios, guest podcaster David Elliot. David has an history in writing and brings an excellent level of analysis to this episodes choices. Our host, David, picks his top favorite series of all time, Sherlock on the BBC with Benedict Cumberbatch. The creativity behind the storytelling + the dark, flawed main character really brings it home. We talk Season 1, Episode 1 – “A Study in Pink.” Monica picks a classic, a fan favorite, a series we all enjoy. She picks Parks & Rec with Leslie Knope. Leslie is a passionate, funny, charming main character who is also a great leader of the ensemble team. We discuss the episode “Win, Lose, or Draw” when Leslie wins a seat as a City Councilmember! We go all over the place and talk Sir Christopher Lee, men’s underwear and Mark Gatiss. Hope you join us in the DaM Recording Studios!
There are bad guys, and then there are GOOD bad guys. The bad guys you love. What a crazy random happenstance! Monica chooses Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog as her pick for “Villain You Want to See Win.” She could practically quote this entire movie. We want to see NPH win because we adore him - as an actor, as a person and as this character. Bad Horse … Bad Horse … David finally chooses Southpark – surprise, surprise another cartoon. We talk about Cartman and why you want to see him win … as he strips naked to cross in front of an auction. Southpark and its use of metaphor gives us a lot of unpack. Thanks for watching! Please, share and subscribe! This is a grassroots podcast.
You want to go where everybody knows your name! Welcome to Season 2 of Nerdisodes and we talk about which show in a series has “The Best Mic Drop” moment. David picks nostalgia and chooses the Episode of Cheers when Sam Malone takes off his hair piece! What a powerful moment. It was also fun to talk about the lore surrounding Cheers. Monica went scary and chose the Haunting of Hill House when the Bent Neck Lady is revealed. We talk jump scares, the use of color and patterns to tell a story.
That’s right! It’s the end of Season 1 of Nerdisodes. All of our season finales will be movies instead of TV Shows. This time we had a spectacular guest with us! Visiting from Texas, USA one of Monica’s best friends, Danielle Ewing, joins us. We asked her to pick her favorite movie for the finale and she chose one of the best movies out there: The Princess Bride. We talk quotes, trivia, and Andre the Giant. Anybody want a peanut?
Nock! And Roll Out! Before we get into the episode, there may be foul language, we talk about the endings of episodes and as always… “you’re the best, f--k the rest.” …. all men must die. Monica takes us to Westeros for one of the most beautiful and difficult to watch episodes, “Battle of the Bastards.” We see Ramsay at his peak of evil and we almost lose Tormund. Amazing landscapes and the battles are immersive. But nothing compares to the battle of the icon of evil, Megatron, versus the epitome of honor, Optimus Prime. In the season 1 finale, “Heavy Metal War” Megatron and Optimus go toe-to-toe and the loser must leave Earth forever. Introduction of the Constructicons and not only that: DINOBOTS UNLEASHED! Please, rate and review us! And share us, we’re a completely grassroots podcast, produced in our apartment with the support of our two cats.
Literally a ship … not a RELATIONship. David brings the question which ship, from any TV series, would you want? It can be a plane, train or auto- ... boat. The Nerdist Cannon: we cuss, we spoil endings, and don’t whiten your teeth, whiten your soul. It only had one season, but has impacted so many people. We’re talking about Firefly. David explains why Serenity (from the episode titled “Serenity”) caught his vote for best ship in a series. Monica chooses Vikings. The ships that the Vikings developed is what made them such a powerful presence in the world. She also lets her true feelings slip about Nathan Fillion, John Barrowman, and Ragnar. Then the surprise reveal about Daryl from the Walking Dead!! Please review and subscribe!
Is that thunder? We discuss which TV episode is our favorite one to watch on a rainy day. The Nerdisode Cannon, is always: we talk spoilers, we use adult language and ALLONS-Z!! It’s about time we dish on Gilmore Girls. Monica picks her absolute favorite episode of Gilmore Girls where Rory discovers the “Life and Death Brigade.” Also in this episode Luke confronts the epic steamrolling of the elder Gilmores! Where you lead, I will follow … Black Mirror catches David’s attention, specifically the season 4 finale, Black Museum. This episode has Easter eggs of past episodes, but is a sideshow attraction of terrifying technology fails. It has some amazing acting, and both David and Monica are blown away by the performance of the two leads: Douglas Hodge and Letitia Wright. Hope you enjoy it, and tell your friends!
Comedy podcast that talks about TV shows in the Nerd Culture. The Nerdisode Cannon includes: we discuss spoilers we use adult language, and “1, 2, 3 … Jesus loves you.” We get dicey in this episode and unlock the achievement of what show we think is the most underrated. David unpacks an episode of Community, where they deep dive into a narrative we rarely see on TV – video games. Video games are all based in stories, and it is truly creative when a TV show honors all those tropes and experiences in 8-bit graphics! Monica pulls up an entire series as the most underrated show. She brings out a fan favorite of The Amazing Race. Contestants travel around the world and challenge themselves through anxious tasks. The episode we watched was in Japan including the team of Harlem Globetrotters and the team of Justin and Zev who has Asperger’s Syndrome. Thanks for listening! Please rate and subscribe!
Comedy podcast that talks about TV shows in the Nerd Culture. The THREE NEVER FORGETABLE LAWS of Nerdisodes are: we talk spoilers, we use adult language and “purple is the color of passion.” Recording in the company of our cats and enjoying a drink, we discuss which episode is the best stand-alone episode from a series. Wibbley-wobbley, timey-whimey … we finally talk Doctor Who. Monica chooses “Blink” as the best episode of the series that stands-alone. You can watch this one episode and without the rest of the series and enjoy it. Also, an introduction to one of the best Doctor Who villains of all time: the Weeping Angels. Life is like a hurricane. And David brings us back old school (to another cartoon) with Ducktails (ahwoo-wooo). An episode that discusses how Scrooge McDuck earned all his money opens up a great discussion about why, so many years later, does it still resonate with David. Thank you for listening!
A comedy podcast that talks about TV shows in popular in the Nerd Culture. The three warnings are: we talk about spoilers, we use language NSFW, and “beware the boomerang that doesn’t come back.” We’re recording in our living room in the beautiful city of Chester, England. This Nerdisode we argue over which series we believe has the best romance. REMEMBER ME! David picks the animated series Futurama and their series finale. One of the episodes, but it especially highlights the romance between Leela and Fry. Great writing. It really gave him that emotional feeling of intimacy and romance. Monica picks the wedding episode of Outlander. In which they get it on – 3 times! Not only do we talk about the borderline soft core pornography of the episode but also the dangerous wedding rituals. We definitely had fun recording this. We hope you have fun listening to it! Credit to Yung $weaty and Alex Poselski for the intro.
