In today's episode of Bingeworthy, our TV and streaming podcast host Mike DeAngelo gets to the occasional truth with Hulu's hit period comedy series, “The Great.” Created by Tony McNamara (“The Favourite,” “Cruella”), the show follows the sometimes true rise to power and subsequent rule of Catherine “The Great” (Elle Fanning) in a chaotic and debaucherous 18th century Russia. The show also stars Nicholas Hoult, Adam Godley, Phoebe Fox, Gwilym Lee, Douglas Hodge, and more.

This episode of BEHIND THE LENS shifted midstream on air when a scheduled guest failed to appear, but that didn't diminish the filmmaking fun thanks to the wonderful JOAN CARR-WIGGIN (who did join us live) talking about A GRAND ROMANTIC GESTURE; not to mention our prerecorded exclusive interview with TIM KIRKBY talking LAST LOOKS! First up we welcome JOAN CARR-WIGGIN back to the show. Always a joy to not only speak with Joan but watch her films, she's here just in time for Valentine's Day with a romantic comedy with the mature audience in mind – A GRAND ROMANTIC GESTURE. Sweet and charming with a light humorous touch, this is the story of Ava, a longtime medical professional who loses her job thanks to forced early retirement. Lost without her career, Ava's husband and daughter strong-arm her into taking a cooking class at the local adult school, as well as preparing to be a grandmother. Clearly not cut out for cooking, Ava quickly jumps into a drama class where she is cast as a Juliet – and falls in love with her Romeo. Joan dives right in discussing her Shakespearean inspiration of "Romeo and Juliet" but turning the story on its head by casting Gina McKee and Douglas Hodge as Ava and Simon aka Romeo and Juliet. Casting in the mature age bracket for both leads opened up the story for Joan, allowing her to bring in all the baggage and experience of lives already lived which proves to be delicious. Listen as we talk about casting, the importance of color (key in all of Joan's films), cinematography and Joan's long collaboration with Bruce Worrall, the challenges of editing in terms of not only finding pacing but a balance between the lives of Ava and Simon, Kenneth Harrison's score and so much more. And then we shift gears a bit, and you'll hear our exclusive interview with director TIM KIRKBY, talking about LAST LOOKS, a film that is not only fun but thanks to an amazingly hilarious performance by Mel Gibson will have you repeatedly laughing out loud. A smartly crafted genre meld from scribe Howard Michael Gould filled with madcap mystery, Sam Spade noir whodunnit, acerbic comedy, some police procedural and a touch of thriller, LAST LOOKS boasts some terrific performances from not only Gibson, but Charlie Hunnam, Rupert Friend, Lucy Fry, Clancy Brown, Morena Baccarin, and a standout turn by Jacob Scipio. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Collider partnered up with IMAX, Paramount Pictures, director Ang Lee and super producer Jerry Bruckheimer for a special screening of Gemini Man at IMAX HQ followed by an extended Q&A. During the 60-minute (!) Q&A, Lee and Bruckheimer talked about how they got together on the project, the challenges of filming in high frame rate, what Lee learned from past films to make Gemini Man look better in 3D and HFR, the numerous technical challenges of using these new cameras, how the film changed in post-production, how shooting at 120 frames per second changes the editing process, the nuances of creating the younger Will Smith, their favorite scenes, how they were able to shoot underwater, and so much more it would be impossible to list everything here. Trust me, if you’re a Ang Lee or Jerry Bruckheimer fan and want to learn Gemini Man was made, you’re going to learn a lot watching this Q&A. Check out what they had to say in the player above and below is exactly what we talked about. If you haven’t seen the trailers, the sci-fi thriller sees Will Smith as a retired assassin being hunted by a 23-year-old clone of himself. Smith plays both parts through the magic of modern technology and the film doesn’t shy away from the actor going head-to-head with his own doppelganger. Gemini Man also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen, Benedict Wong, and Douglas Hodge. Ang Lee and Jerry Bruckheimer: Bruckheimer talks about what TV show he would love to guest produce. And Lee, what show he would like to guest direct. They talk about what movies they’ve seen more than any other. They reveal what props they kept from certain productions. They confess which films scared them as kids. Bruckheimer and Lee shed light on what it was in their youths that told them they needed to be involved in movies. When people meet you, what do they want to talk about? Or is it different in certain areas of the world? Bruckheimer and Lee share how they first met. Lee talks about when David Ellison first pitched him the idea, asking if he wanted to see a young Will Smith. Since the movie sat on a shelf for a while, when did they realize it could finally get made? How much convincing does it take for Bruckheimer to get Will Smith to do a movie? Lee talks about the state of the technology, and how he pulled this off, and what he learned from his past films (and how to light 3D). They talk about the technological feat that is these cameras (seven of them), with rigs made special for the film (in Germany). They discuss just how difficult it is to shoot with these cameras. They reveal the painstaking process of bringing “Junior” to life—and just how many people were involved in that. Lee convinced Bruckheimer he could do this by using a scene from Bad Boys. How did they made a 50-year-old Will actually look 50? They talk about the nuances of aging, and how the face changes. What shot did Lee go back to because he wasn’t satisfied? Lee talks about what changed in post—from the first cut to the finished film. What was the last thing they cut out before locking the picture? Lee talks about the difficulty of shooting in a high frame rate with fewer cuts, and how he took advantage of that. What...

It is intended to be the first in a series of DC-based films separate from the DC Extended Universe(DCEU). The film is directed by Todd Phillips from a screenplay co-written with Scott Silver, and stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker, alongside Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, Bill Camp, Glenn Fleshler, Shea Whigham, Brett Cullen, Douglas Hodge and Josh Pais. Set in 1981, Joker follows Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian who is driven insane and turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City. TEASER TRAILER: https://youtu.be/t433PEQGErc Development of a standalone Joker film was confirmed in August 2017, after Warner Bros. and DC Films decided to deemphasize the shared nature of the DCEU. Phillips was set to direct, produce, and co-write the script—inspired by executive producer Martin Scorsese's films Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and The King of Comedy—with Silver. Leonardo DiCaprio was considered to play the Joker before Phoenix became attached to the project in February 2018; he was cast that July, and the majority of the cast had signed on by August. Principal photography began in September 2018, taking place in New York City, Jersey City, and

Never settling on one thing, Douglas is shooting Penny Dreadful as Inspector Bartholomew Rusk, in Ireland through March; busy 'chasing Josh Hartnett across the desert!' In between he's off to France to work on a French film.
