Long time friends and Morehouse brothers Joe Carlos and Calvin Smith (and the occasional guest) discuss movies, music, life, and everything in between.
Now that football season is done we are back to our normal agenda. Chris joins us one more time, but this time to discuss John Avildsen's 1989 film starring Morgan Freeman as famed Eastside High School principal Joe Clark, Lean On Me.This episode was dedicated to the memory of our friend Joy Wilson who was an educator at Spelman College. We hope you enjoy it. It's been an exciting couple of weeks. The conference championships lived up to the hype for the most part and now we have our big game match up between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. It's the match up no one wanted but it should be an exciting one nonetheless. Joe, Calvin, and Chris are here for our last banter filled pick selection before we venture back into the world of cinema. Oh yeah....there was a trade that occurred in the NBA and we said a few words about that as well. Give us a watch or a listen. Let us know your thoughts. Like, subscribe, and comment! #theopentabspodcast will be back next week to recap the game and discuss the film Lean On Me and you won't want to miss that!
Well, it's that weekend again. The end of the football season is nigh, and often this is the best weekend of games as the games are usually more competitive and therefore more exciting than the big game that comes a couple of weeks afterward. This week we talk about the outcome of the College Football Playoff, the coaching carousel and the previous week's divisional round before diving into our picks for this week. As always the discussion was rousing. Give us a watch/listen. Like, subscribe, and comment. Let us know what you think about our picks and our reasoning! #theopentabspodcast
Welcome back to #TheOpenTabsPodcast this week we unpack the results of last weeks games and make predictions on the slate of games this week with our friend Chris Lee. We also discuss the great works of famed photographer Walter Iooss and the recent interaction he had with Joe. We also discuss the broadcasting booths and who we like and don't like. The end of the episode has some top notch banter as well. It's what you've come to know and love of us! Settle in and Enjoy!
The Open Tabs Podcast returns with friend of the show Chris Lee to discuss a wide variety of topics around, as Chris calls it "Saturday and Sunday Ball". It's our favorite time of year. On this episode we discuss the upcoming college football semifinal, the MVP race, and make our picks for Wild Card Weekend. From there we go into a vigorous discussion about the types of things we would do if we were the owners of our favorite teams. We had a great time discussing it as we always do and we hope that you enjoy the episode as much as we did making it! We know we've been away for a while but we are so glad to be back! Follow and subscribe to be updated about future episodes.
After a long break we are back and we have a good one for you. On this episode we discuss Kevin Hook's 1991 film Strictly Business. We discuss the various rising stars in the film and where they eventually ended up. Halle Berry shines in this film but there is so much more to it. Give us a listen, a like, and subscribe. We have some great films on deck to discuss. We know you missed us! #theopentabspodcast
Well it's come to this. Calvin, Joe and Chris are deadlocked in their picks and....it'll end that way. That didn't stop the fellas from having some good banter and talking points. We had some reaction to the unofficial Hall of Fame announcements that we knew of to that point. We also gave you some things to look out for during the game. It's always bittersweet when football season comes to an end but there's light at the end of the tunnel as Chris gave us a list of films he's ready to come back and talk about. We hope you enjoy the podcast and the game! Give us a like and subscribe! #theOpenTabsPodcast
Joe, Calvin, and Chris are back to make their picks in the Conference Championship games and they are deadlocked with 7 correct picks and 3 incorrect picks. The discussion this week was lively on all accounts as we recapped the previous weeks picks as well as discussed the latest coaching hire in Atlanta. Take a listen and let us know if you agree with our picks. Subscribe, like, comment and interact. We appreciate you listening to #theopentabspodcast
Last week Joe's picks proved to be the most astute, and besides a Cowboys loss that none of the three saw coming, picked every game correctly. He looks to build on that successful prognostication this week against Calvin and Chris in the Divisional Round of the Playoffs. The picks are bookended by a discussion of a vintage 80's video featuring one of the signature hairstyles of the era and a discussion on the broadcasting booths. We hope you enjoy our picks. We appreciate all of our listeners and viewers. Check us out on your preferred media source. #theOpenTabsPodcast
We are back just in time for the playoffs and we are ready to reflect on the season that was and the upcoming tournament leading the Usher performance...we mean the Big Game! #iykyk This year we added a special guest, our Morehouse brother Christopher Lee, Esq and as expected Chris brings the heat. Will Calvin's perfect pick streak continue? Will Joe take the mantle? Or will our guest best both of us? Take a listen and see! We hope you enjoy. We have some other material coming soon as well but we do love a good tradition here at The Open Tabs Podcast. Let us know your thoughts. Like, subscribe, and comment!
Can a movie be both a classic and a bad movie? Can it be entertaining and bad simultaneously? In the case of this episode's film Purple Rain we think the answer to both of those questions is yes. There is no question about the impact of this film on the culture, music, and entertainment at large. The questions are about the plot and acting which at times was laughable, but here we are! Purple Rain remains amazing in spite of if not because of it's flaws! We can't wait for you to hear our thoughts about it. Let us know what you think. Subscribe, like, rate, and review us! #theOpenTabsPodcast #PurpleRain #Prince #Apollonia #TheTime #MorrisDay
This week we discuss the Ben Affleck directed story of how Air Jordan came to be, 2023's Air. We talk about our respective shoe journeys and discuss some of the amazing performances as well as what they got right and what wasn't quite true. It's the "newest" movie we've ever discussed but the conversation is very much rooted in 1984. We talk about the elephant in the room, was Jordan necessary for the film. Listen and see what we had to say. Check us out on your favorite podcast streaming service. Follow us, subscribe, like, and interact. Let us know what you want to hear about next.
Sometimes you need a little reset. We know it's been awhile. Too long. But we are back with a soft opening if you will. On this episode we discuss our categories and catch up and get back on the good foot so we can return next week with the goods. Check us out. Let us know what categories or talking points you want to hear. We couldn't be more excited to be back with you all!
On this episode of the Open Tabs Podcast we cover another Roman Polanski film, released in 1968 Rosemary's Baby. Joe doesn't do horror movies, but what we learned even more so was that Joe doesn't do BAD HUSBANDS. Guy Woodhouse is a bad husband. Joe makes his feelings very clear about Guy early on. Calvin loves villains, Guy is definitively a villain, suffice to say there is a difference of opinion on Guy, though we agree he is deplorable. That discussion and more are held on this episode on a genre defining, ground breaking film. Join us as we discuss "All Of Them Witches". Make sure you like, subscribe, follow, all those things! Thanks for listening and watching! #theopentabspodcast
If you watched last week's episode you are probably wondering where Rosemary's Baby is. Keep praying for her baby, we'll discuss that film next week, in the meantime we had some thoughts we had to get out about the playoffs. Calvin's on an unprecedented playoff pick run, at 10-0 so far. Can it continue? Well listen and let us know what you think. Also we had thoughts on a ton of other things. This episode is a bit of a mish mash but it's also Joe and Calvin doing what they do. We like it, we hope you do as well. We promise Rosemary's Baby next week! Like, subscribe, and comment! We appreciate you all! #theopentabspodcast
This is a good one folks! On this episode we start by recapping the previous weeks picks! We did well, Joe went 5/6, Calvin went 6/6. We made picks for next week as well. We had a little banter about the Boston MLK Statue, you know how we do. Then we jumped into this episodes topic, Richard Donner's The Goonies. As you can imagine there is a lot to say and say it we did. We know this is a beloved movie so we wanted to do it justice with a great discussion and as always we hope that you all enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it! As always we appreciate you listening and watching. Like and subscribe. Tell someone about us! #theopentabspodcast
We love music on #theopentabspodcast anyway you choose it! But we really love the genre of Yacht Rock! Retrospectively named in 2005, it's a sub genre of soft rock that gives you that feeling of sailing off of the Catalina Coast after the old Catalina Wine Mixer. Maybe you have a special someone with you, maybe you have a bottle of Malbec and a Chacuterie board. You decide, but what you must have is the right music! Well we discuss what the right music is, who the right artists are and we even did you the solid of creating a spotify playlist to go with this episode! It's our season 4 premier episode in earnest and we can't wait to bring you our line up! In the meantime listen to or watch this episode. Like and subscribe. Recommend it to a fellow music lover, but don't tell us what we "forgot" because while we may have left it off we forgot NOTHING! Season 4! Open Tabs!
It's the best time of year. Sure the Holidays are great, but we are talking about the Fantasy Football Playoffs here!! To make it to the finals you need some luck and a trade here or there, but year in and year out the teams that perform the best are the ones who draft the best. Kevin Costner stars in Ivan Reitman's last directorial effort along with Jennifer Garner and Chadwick Boseman among others to put together this film that gets better with each viewing. We are joined a bit later by Calvin's brother in law Tony Braswell who lends some expert insight into the film. Check us out and let us know what you think! #theOpenTabsPodcast
We dedicate this episode to our Morehouse Brother Turner Cooper Class of 2011 who departed this Earthly realm too soon, rest in power brother. #TheOpenTabsPodcast has returned from a brief hiatus and a great deal has happened in the world. What better way to return than to discuss the world of television. With so many options to choose from we wanted to discuss our current top fives as well as shows that didn't make the cut (from barely missing to barely considered and all in between). You know how we do, we cover it all, including the great theme songs. We talk about shows on the cusp and we make some recommendations. We are sure we left some of your favorites off so make sure you tell us what we missed. Speaking of missed, we missed you all, but one thing we will never do is leave y'all hanging for too long! Tell us how much you missed us and tell a friend to give us a listen. Like and review us, subscribe so you don't miss an episode! We are #TheOpenTabsPodcast and we are glad to be back!
On this episode of #theopentabspodcast we return to the work of our Morehouse Brother class of 1979, one Shelton Jackson "Spike" Lee. Before he was winning Oscars he made a small Black and White film for about $175,000. He turned a little bit of a profit and now we have a world of films, thank goodness. This film has some flaws but overall we found it "necessary". We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed making it. If you do, let us know, tell a friend.
Disclaimer: You may hear a fire alarm in the background at certain points. You may not. Thank goodness for high quality mics. Apologies if it annoys you, we pushed through. On this episode we discuss the 1978 John Landis directed classic starring an ensemble cast including John Belushi, Tim Matheson, and Donald Sutherland National Lampoon's Animal House. This film, which is currently streaming on Peacock, was indeed genre defining and holds up amazingly well. The misadventures of Delta house at Faber College led to alot of the films we know and love today both directly and indirectly and we discuss it all. We hope you enjoy this episode. If so let us know by liking, subscribing, and commenting. We at #theopentabspodcast certainly appreciate it!
Django! Have you always been alone? This week we cover the eight film by Quentin Tarantino, 2012's Django Unchained starring Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and of course the winner of the best supporting actor that year Christoph Waltz. Highly controversial and even more highly entertaining, Django holds up pretty well. We have a pretty rousing conversation about the merits of the film. Some pretty controversial thoughts get expressed as well. Check us out and let us know what you think. You can find us on youtube, apple podcasts, spotify, anchor.fm and a slew of other places. We are #theopentabspodcast
You sure y'all wanna hang with old Eddie King (or Kane....it's fine)? It was about time for us to discuss this black family classic. Robert Townsend at his best with Keenan Ivory Wayans as a co-writer. This film is everything and anything to so many people. If you are looking for pure entertainment, they got you. If you are looking to laugh, they got you. If you want memorable original songs, they got you. It's a true enduring classic, and we cover it from pole to pole. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed making it. Like, comment, and subscribe! #TheOpenTabsPodcast
"People say I am the best boss." In season 1 this was debatable but one of the things we loved about Netflix in the early days was opening it up and seeing that clip before a binge however long or brief. Then along came NBC/Universal's streaming service, Peacock, and they stole the Office from us. Sure you could watch on Comedy Central or FreeForm, but another service to stream was a bit much....until the advent of the Superfan episodes. Folks these episodes are a game changer and we at #TheOpenTabsPodcast are here to tell you why they are a MUST watch. Join us and let us know your thoughts!
Ladies and gentlemen #TheOpenTabsPodcast is at it's best when we have guests and on this episode we had the pleasure of having our dynamic and vivacious Spelman sister Heather Joy Thompson join us to discuss 1997's L.A. Confidential. Directed by Curtis Hanson and starring Kim Bassinger, Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, and Guy Pearce this film has lasted the test of time and holds up incredibly well. We hit all the high points (and the one or two low points) about this film. All of the elements are here and Heather brings the heat. She will definitely be back with us in the near future. Check us out on your favorite streaming podcast service or youtube. Subscribe so you know when we have a new episode and make sure you give us a like. This episode of #theopentabspodcast has been a long time coming. We cover a fan favorite Western that has lasted test of time. The epic story of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, directed (maybe) by George P Cosmatos and written by Kevin Jarre, the one and only Tombstone. We hit all the high points as well as a couple of low ones in our discussion of a true genre defining film. We hope you enjoy this one as much as we enjoyed making it. Check us out on your favorite podcast streaming service and make sure you subscribe so you know when we update! We love our listeners/viewers and we thank you. We are #theopentabspodcast
On this episode of #TheOpenTabsPodcast we are joined by our Morehouse Brother Wayne Davis '00 who brings the absolute heat as we discuss arguably the best film in the Star Wars film series, the Irvin Kershner directed 1980 blockbuster film, Star Wars Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back. Among other things, we discuss if this is the greatest sequel of all time. We also give some well deserved love and praise for one Billie Dee Williams in his role as Lando Calrissian. This is a great episode ladies and gents. As always we appreciate your love and support! Follow us and subscribe wherever you get your digital content! #TheOpenTabsPodcast
We have returned ladies and gentlemen and not a moment too soon. Yeah we missed some major life events as life was happening around us but we've been consuming some new material and two projects on HBO in particular had us captivated. So we came back to discuss the HBO Limited Series We Own This City written by David Simon and George Pelecanos as well as Winning Time based on Jeff Pearlman's best selling book Showtime about the Laker's Dynasty of the 80s. Both shows are amazing and worth your time and we hope you enjoy our discussion on them. As always we appreciate your view/listen. Like, subscribe, rate, and review! #TheOpenTabsPodcast
Opulence is the theme of this episode of #TheOpenTabsPodcast as we cover Jon M Chu's 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians. As always we appreciate each and every one of you who takes the time to listen to us. We'll be back with an Oscar recap on our next episode!

Black History Month is still going you all and we know we promised Moonlight and Harlem Nights but things came up. But let not your hearts be troubled this episode on Steven Spielberg's "The Color Purple" makes up for it. First of all we have our three time special guest Reese Hendrix from Surly Shirts, who had never seen the movie prior to our ask. We discussed why and he had a very good reason and that opened up a world of discussion. This is one of our best episodes. It's a little longer than our most recent episodes but trust us, you will want to listen to every moment of this one. Check us out. Tell a friend. Like, subscribe, all the good stuff! We are #theOpenTabsPodcast Happy Black History Month!
That Shaft is a baaaaaad mutha....shut yo mouth....we just talking about Shaft! We can dig that! We share big game memories and talk about our favorite moments of games past and yes, we each make a pick! Don't forget we will be covering Shaft (the original) on Thursday evening so be on the lookout for that! #TheOpenTabsPodcast appreciates all of you!
The year 1998 was a simpler time. When There's Something About Mary was released we were still using VCRs as our main mode of repeat viewing of films. Sure we had cable, but Blockbuster probably had it. There's Something About Mary was probably the last big Blockbuster Video movie. On this episode of #theopentabspodcast we discuss The Farrelly Brother's breakout hit starring Cameron Diaz, Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon, Lee Evans, and of course the great Chris Elliott. The laughs come a mile a minute in this film and we can barely contain ourselves as we talk about our memories of the film. What a time in our lives. Follow us, like us, share us, subscribe, tell a friend. We are #theOpenTabsPodcast
On this episode of #TheOpenTabsPodcast we discuss Trey Parker and Matt Stone's cartoon classic South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut. The musical we never expected, the epic tale of mischief, misadventure, betrayal, and war. Yes, all of those things take place in this cartoon set in the mountain town of South Park, Colorado. We talk about all of the things Brian Boitano did and will do. We even come up with a new category. It's our raunchiest episode yet and we hope just like the film, you enjoy every moment of it. Please like, subscribe, and rate us. Happy New Year from #TheOpenTabsPodcast
On this episode of #TheOpenTabsPodcast we rejoin the crew from the 1999 hit film, The Best Man as they reconvene for Christmas at the Sullivan home. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll question the believability of what you just saw, but moreover you will watch it over and over and love it every time. "It's that time, Christmas time is here...." We hope that you are enjoying your holidays. A big part of the holidays for us as movie buffs is talking about the films we enjoy the most. This year our first Christmas film is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Directed by Jeremiah Chechik and written by John Hughes. Starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Juliette Lewis, Johnny Gelecki, and the great Randy Quaid. We hit all the high points in talking about this Christmas classic! Sparky Griswold just wants his family to have the hap happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap danced with Danny Effing Kaye! He does his best and that's perfect for us! Join us as we discuss this hilarious holiday classic. Like us, subscribe, tell a friend. We are #TheOpenTabsPodcast Merry Christmas!!
Let's cut to the chase. This episode is worth it for Joe's rendition of "the Speech" alone. Then again I don't want to sell the episode or the movie itself short. We discuss all of the high points of Oliver Stone's vision of pro football. With a star studded cast and some of the most realistic portrayals of gridiron action, this is a must see movie, and a must listen episode. Like, comment, subscribe, and share. We at #theopentabspodcast appreciate you!
In 2007 Eddie Murphy was on top of the world. His role in Dreamgirls had garnered him critical acclaim and he was nominated for an Academy Award as James "Thunder" Early and then....he released the film we discuss tonight. The critics hated it. It offends literally EVERYONE...but...it's actually VERY FUNNY. We have a pretty good, nuanced discussion about Eddie's 14th film to open number 1 at the box office. This is probably the worst movie we will ever discuss on this podcast, but we still like it...mostly. Check us out and let us know what you think! We are #theopentabspodcast Like, subscribe, follow, interact.
We are back! #TheOpenTabsPodcast has returned after a needed hiatus and man are we coming back with a bang. On this episode Joe and Calvin discuss 2008's Step Brothers starring Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and a host of others. We talk about comedies getting their due from the oscars and the absolutely timeless moments in this film. The magic happens in this film and whether it's Prestige Worldwide or the Catalina Wine Mixer almost everyone has a moment in this film that makes them laugh out loud. It was fun just being able to talk about this film and we hope that you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed making it! #TheOpenTabsPodcast is back and we can't wait to share season 3 with you all! It's only the beginning!
This episode is different. How? Well for starters we are TOGETHER. Like in the same room. Like on the same couch. And we are not discussing Robert Altman's The Player, but that's coming. A lot has happened since we last spoke and unfortunately the world of film and television lost a GIANT in Michael K Williams. We would be remiss if did not give him his due in the way that only #theOpenTabsPodcast could. This was completely unfiltered and raw and ended up being quite cathartic. Check us out and share your thoughts and memories of this great actor. We will be back shortly with two great guests to wrap up season 2 of #theOpenTabsPodcast we hope you enjoy.
This episode of #TheOpenTabsPodcast features Christopher Nolan's 2006 film The Prestige featuring Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, and Rebecca Hall. Revenge and rivalry are at the heart of this film, but the film making tricks and techniques make every viewing just as good as the first. It's an amazing film and so is the discussion on it. Check it out. Follow us on instagram @theopentabspodcast and subscribe and like us any and everywhere you consume your media. We are #theopentabspodcast
On this episode of #theopentabspodcast we take it WAY back to 1975 to cover a classic. Let's Do It Again was released in 1975 and was the fourth film directed by the legendary Sidney Poitier. Starring Sidney Poitier, Bill Cosby, John Amos, Denise Nicholas, Lee Chamberlain, Jimmie Walker, Calvin Lockhart and a host of others. Recent events have tarnished the image of the film but we urge you to revisit it and focus on the countless other great stars and moments. This movie still holds up very well and has an important role in movie history. Yes, we discuss the elephant in the room, but there's so much more and so much more great work done by some amazing performers to let us lose this classic! Either way, let us know what you think. Give us a listen on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Anchor.fm, or watch us on youtube. Subscribe to our podcasts instagram account at @theopentabspodcast . We also have a great discussion about rival monkey gangs in Thailand....trust me, you want to hear it. We are #theopentabspodcast.
Our minds have been enabled....On this episode of #TheOpenTabsPodcast we discuss HBO's 2004 series Entourage, loosely based on the real life escapades of Mark Wahlberg's crew (with some Leo thrown in). This show blurred the lines between reality and scripted comedy and drama. It redefined the meta and in the process also revolutionized what a TV show could do. Full of great, one of a kind characters, it fit a time period perfectly, in a way that could never be reproduced or recreated. You literally couldn't make this show now, and no one should ever try. It's perfect as it is. Joe and Calvin are back together again (shout out to Donnie and Roberta) and in rare form. GIve us a watch/listen. Subscribe and like and all that jazz! (we see you Ray!). We can be found on youtube, Apple Podcasts, spotify, anchor, and anywhere else you can find podcasts. We are #theopentabspodcast enjoy the episode!
This one has been circled on our calendar for awhile now. We welcome The Root dot com's favorite Auntie Unfiltered, the fantastic Monique Judge who discusses Boogie Nights (1997) with Calvin (Joe is on a well earned vacation). We discuss Paul Thomas Anderson's award winning second film at length and give it #theopentabspodcast treatment in full! The film is chock full of character studies and great moments and even at a length (heh heh) of over 2 and a half hours it left us wanting more. You don't want to miss this episode. Follow us, like us, subscribe, tell a friend! Follow our instagram @theopentabspodcast and let us know what you think!
It's been a long time, but we left you with a lot of dope material in the interim. Nonetheless we are back with a GREAT summer flick. A cult classic, an HBO mainstay, you can stream it on STARZ right now. We are discussing John Carpenter's Big Trouble In Little China starring Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrell, Dennis Dun, Victor Wong, and a host of others. You want some good action featuring a healthy dose of Chinese Mysticism? You got it. You want some screwball comedy? You got it. You want a floating eyeball with more eyeballs and an eyeball tongue? No....well you got it anyway! We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed talking about it. Follow, like, subscribe, interact, and tell someone #theopentabspodcast is back! We are back after a 2 week hiatus and man did we choose a monster to come back with. David Fincher's 2010 instant classic film, scripted by Aaron Sorkin, The Social Network. It's a fantastic film which while nominated for many awards somehow didn't win the big ones. The acting performances are stellar and the story is literally rooted in life altering and timely material. Facebook permeates everything we do and if you need any evidence of that, you are likely linked to this from either Facebook or it's picture book form Instagram. And we have a bad date to thank for it! Check us out and let us know what you think. Like, subscribe, follow, interact, and all that jazz #theopentabspodcast is back!!
It was only a matter of time before #TheOpenTabsPodcast would cover the greatest movie ever made. This is not a hot take and we will defer the argument to purists who decide that One is the best. That's fine. For us though....Two is number one. It's a sequel and a prequel, it's everything you love about the original with stronger acting performances. Wait til you get to our discussion about the best supporting actor category for the Oscars that year. Again it's not a hot take. Yes faithful listeners this is another long one, I mean how else can we discuss this 3 hour and 23 minute epic and do it justice, but trust us you don't want to miss it. Let us know your thoughts. We are #TheOpenTabsPodcast
This episode was a journey! After three attempts at uploading we are finally able to share this review of the 1992 Eddie Murphy and Reginald Hudlin classic (regardless of what the critics said at the time!) Boomerang. Robin Givens and Halle Berry light the screen up and David Alan Grier and Martin Lawrence bring the comedy along with a young Chris Rock and a screen chewing John Witherspoon. Our special guest tonight is the king of Washington, DC. Calvin celebrates his birthday on this episode. Yes it's a long one. Make sure you listen at 1.5X speed or higher!! The hits keep on coming y'all. As the temperature rises and we approach the anniversary of the murder of George Floyd by Derrick Chauvin it's about the time for us to discuss Spike Lee's finest work, 1989's Do The Right Thing. One day in the lives of a group of New Yorkers of various walks of life that becomes increasingly tense as the day goes on. Stellar performances by Ossie Davis, Giancarlo Esposito, Ruby Dee, Danny Aiello, and more. A killer score and soundtrack including Public Enemy's incredible, monster of a summer jam "Fight The Power". Of course we had to get film maker and film educator Derrick DC Cameron to join us and talk about all of the things that make this film so great! We are on fire and we are just getting started! Matter of fact we will be back before you know it with ANOTHER of your favorite films. At #theopentabspodcast we know that there are movies we love and then there are movies that are beloved. This film falls into the latter category. They teach elements of this movie in B school. Eddie Murphy's second film, filmed while he was 21 years old no less, is Trading Places. It teams he and John Landis for the first time and costars Dan Akroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis and it holds up amazingly well. What happens when two old rich guys pull a reversal of fortune on two unsuspecting pawns over a dollar bet? You get a priceless movie. Lenny brings great insights from his countless viewings and we talk about all of your favorite moments....censored and uncensored. Join us for the laughs and nostalgia on this episode of #theopentabspodcast. Like us, subscribe, review, rate, listen and watch at 1.5 speed for best results! Just trust us! We are #theopentabspodcast
