Send us a textEpisode 552"Cobra Kai" and "The Karate Kid Part 3" | Actor: William Christopher Ford | (Dennis de Guzman)William Christopher Ford aka Christopher Paul Ford played strong but silent Cobra Kai bad boy, "Dennis", in "The Karate Kid Part III". He was made aware of an open casting call for "KKIII" for the part of "Mike Barnes" from a good friend and stood in line with hundreds of other young hopefuls. Director, John Avildsen came out with a camera man and started going down the line to take a look at all the talent and stopped to talk to a fortunate few including Ford who gave the director his headshot. About a week later, he got a call from Casting Director, Caro Jones, who called him into read for the part of "Barnes". About a month later he got a call from Jones telling him that the part of "Mike Barnes" had been cast but they wanted him to come down to the set because they needed an actor/stunt person/martial artist to play one of the supporting "bad boys". So Ford met with Stunt Coordinator Pat Johnson and Director John Avildsen the next day and was cast as "Dennis". At this writing, Ford is a 5th degree black belt in Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karate and studied directly with Sensei Richard Rabago and with Master Tadashi Yamashita. He has also studied Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Kick-boxing. He began studying Martial Arts in 1974 at the age of seven. Ford left the Entertainment Industry for many years to help raise his two kids but returned in 2006, and at this time he also changed his professional name to William Christopher Ford to honor his father who passed away in 2005. He has also worked as Chris Ford, William Ford and "WC" Ford.William was inducted into the Masters' Hall of Fame on Aug. 11th, 2012 and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement in recognition of his commitment and contribution to the martial arts. He dedicated the acceptance of this award to his late martial arts mentor, Sensei Richard Rabago, who had suggested Ford for the award before his passing in May, 2012.Welcome, William Christopher Fordwww.mmcpodcast.com#cobrakai #thekaratekid #karatekid #terrysilver #johnkreese #daniellarusso #cobrakaiedits #cobrakaiseason6 #karatekid3 #karatekidmovie #karatekidlegends #blackbelt Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mondaymorningcritic/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mondaymorningcritic/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mondaymorningcriticMondaymorningcritic@gmail.com

Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and his mother (Randee Heller) move from New Jersey to Reseda, CA , to start a new life. It seems promising at first, but soon Daniel hates his new environs, thanks to a few run-ins at school with a group of karate-trained bullies. He does manage to irk the leader of the bullies, Johnny (William Zabka), when he starts seeing his ex-girlfriend, Ali (Elisabeth Shue). Johnny and gang belong to a no-holds-barred karate school in town that has a slogan of "no mercy", run by ex-Vietnam vet John Kreese (Martin Kove). After the landlord of Daniel's apartment complex, Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), saves him from the gang one day, he decides to teach the young man some karate, except in the ways of the honored Japanese tradition. Miyagi and Kreese form a pact that Daniel is to be "off limits" until the day of the big karate tournament in town, where the different styles of karate come to clash, but Daniel is far from ready for the match. With help from Miyagi, he prepares every day for the event, but he finds the teaching methods unorthodox, monotonous, and strenuous.

It's a livewatch! When The Karate Kid turns 40 we load up the original rehearsal tapes that John Avildsen generously posted online. Why is Lucille so sleepy? Is Pat Johnson Kreese-ly enough? Are hi-tops Miyagi's style? It's the episode that goes back to its live-commentary roots.
The film tells the tale of Rocky Balboa (Sylverster Stallone), a washed-up Philadelphia boxer who just barely scrapes by, fighting in small clubs for meager pay, while supplementing his income as a thuggish debt collector for a local loan shark. He doesn't have many ambitions; his only real goal is to get to go out with the shy, mousy pet store clerk named Adrian (Talia Shire), sister to his friend Paulie (Burt Young), Opportunity comes knocking in a big way for Balboa when the world heavyweight champ, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), wants to fight a "snow white" nobody for the nation's bicentennial. Rocky agrees and becomes a local celebrity, but with less than five weeks to train, this washed-up fighter has to have the strength, agility, and most of all, heart to have a chance with Creed without embarrassing himself in front of millions.
This episode is exciting. We talk to actress Lauren-Marie Taylor from the cult classic films "Friday the 13th Part 2" and the John Belushi film "Neighbors". She was also a soap star on the soap opera "Loving". We discuss how she became an actor and what it was like filming one of the most iconic horror films of all time before it became a beloved classic. She also talks about working with John Beluishi, Dan Aykroyd, Cathy Moriarty and John Avildsen just off his Oscar win for "Rocky". Episode 44: ROCKY We're heading back to the 1970's, with John Avildsen's 1976 classic underdog tale, Rocky. Written by and starring Sylvester Stallone, this story of a Philadelphia-based, down-on-his-luck boxer who gets the opportunity of his life from heavy-weight champ Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). Rocky's changing fortunes also impact his inner circle: girlfriend Adrian (Talia Shire), his coach Mickey (Burgess Merideth), and Adrian's brother Paulie (Burt Young). Rocky won the Best Picture Academy Award (TM) for 1976 against some fierce competition and ranks #26 on our countdown. Join us next week for the 1930 version of the war epic All Quiet on the Western Front. Spoiler Alert: We talk about the movie in its entirety, so if you haven't yet seen it, check it out. Or not. That ball is in your court. *What is this list? We explain it in more detail in our Trailer and its Description, but as a high-level answer: we aggregated several different lists that rank the ninety-four winners of the Best Picture Academy Award in a rough attempt to get a consensus. It is not intended to be rigorous or definitive. It's just a framework to guide our journey through cinema history.
Let's take a deep dive into one of the most iconic and influential films of its time and all time: Rocky. Run up the stairs of great criticism and insight with us. Once Creed III is released on March 3rd, there will be 9 entries in the Rocky universe...and we will have covered 5 of them. We're obviously huge fans of Balboa & friends, but one of us was a bigger Rocky V apologist than the other one was. This is, after all, universally acknowledged as the worst in the franchise. Even Sylvester Stallone hates it. His script creates major problems with the scenarios, the characters and even one character's nonsensical name. Some of those blunders were truly maddening. We also both took issue with the way Stallone and returning director John Avildsen executed the angle where the Balboas go broke...and the repercussions of that when they end up back in the old neighbourhood. Still, there are some sweet moments and touching call-backs to prior films. As always, the entire series was discussed, which it must be when the other films are referred to as often as they always are when the Italian Stallion is the topic and we're the ones doing the discussing. We didn't hear no bell, so fire up this lengthy episode to hear us share some laughs and express some exasperation about the valley in the franchise known as Rocky V. Recorded 4.27.22 at the Punchline Philly in Philadelphia, PAOn this episode, it's the out-RAGEOUS live show from Philly the guys did at the start of this year where they're talking about the incredibly sad, Christmas-ish-set sequel, Rocky V! Written by Sly himself, shouldn't the producers have honored his wishes and kept in the original ending with Rocky getting beaten to death in the street? How is Paulie not murdered by the entire family after this financial fiasco? Why didn't Rocky think to do commercials in Japan or sell that robot to the military for cash? And is the Italian Stallion going back into his son's room and checking out that sexy doodle of the French teacher again? PLUS: What if Paulie was possessed by the demon Pazuzu from The Exorcist?! Rocky V stars Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire, Burt Young, Sage Stallone, Tommy Morrison, Richard Gant, Tony Burton, Kevin Connolly, and. Burgess Meredith as The Ghost of Mickey; directed by John Avildsen. Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to Ike Eisenmann who you will likely remember from television, commercials and film. From Double Mint Gum ads to Escape from Witch Mountain to Fantastic Journey, Ike was about as in demand a child and young adult actor was in the 1970s and 1980s. What you may not know about Ike however, if you didn't grow up in Houston, Texas is that Ike's dad Albert was the creator and host of a massively popular local children's show, Cadet Don which ran for close to a decade from 1959 to 1968. We talk to Ike about quite a few topics including his Pop Culture Retro Podcast, local programming on television that simply doesn't exist anymore, the influence the Cadet Donshow had on children (including two celebrity brothers) as well as the role NASA played in the show. We also hear from Ike about what it was like about becoming a child actor and the salvation it presented for him. You've heard of Stage Mothers? We hear about his Stage Father, who was somewhat difficult and overly aggressive guardian who often shared his own head shots with casting directors while Ike auditioned for a role. Ike was incredibly generous to talk about the dark times as well as the folly. What folly you ask? Disco dancing with Brooke Shields and Lisa Whelchel at Disneyland? Or how about working with ex quarterback playboy ‘Dandy' Don Meredith on a pilot that never went to series? Regardless, Ike was most insightful and open about growing up the child of a celebrity as well as his own celebrity and you can listen to that now, on the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.

A look at Season 3 of the hit Karate Kid spin-off series, Cobra Kai. The highly anticipated release of the former YouTube property delivers an engaging and enjoyable continuation of the Karate Kid series. While the series is corny and predictable, it is also still very watchable. It works, in part, because it doesn’t take itself too seriously. There is an underlying recognition throughout the series that this is entertainment for the sake of entertainment. The Cobra Kai Series has clearly done more to excite interest in martial arts practice than any other project since the original film series that spawned this project. I have heard from numbers of Dojang owners that can trace new student enrollments, even during the difficulty of the pandemic, directly to Cobra Kai viewership. That alone says a lot about how the series has connected with a generation that wasn’t even born when Daniel LaRusso fought Johnny Lawrence in the All Valley Karate Tournament. While the 3rd season continues to develop its new story line and trade off its origins, it also continues to create back stories which make the characters more multi-dimensional than those created in the John Avildsen film. The biggest weakness of the season is that it is a little light on training and fight sequences. I expect the next season, which is already in the works, will have more of these scenes because of the already foreshadowed storyline. The strength continues to be the power of William Zabka to engage, interest, and entertain. Cobrak Kai Season 3 does not disappoint.

Morgenstern's debut novel Night Circus is also available wherever books are sold. Heather relates the telling of these stories and the notion that nothing is ever lost as long as you keep it in your heart to that of losing a loved one, and holding on to innocence you may outgrow with age. Fun Fact: Erin Morgenstern is also a painter specializing in acrylic! Director by John Avildsen, the standard bearer of old school big fight movies such as Rocky, lends his expertise to Robert Mark Kamen's (Co-creator of the Taken franshise) original screenplay. Jeff takes us through the events that lead spunky New Jersey teen Daniel LaRusso from punching bag to Karate champion. The Karate Kid shows us that new beginnings can be tough, and that the help of friends and family can go a long way to make anywhere feel like home. Overcoming adversary and counting on others bring this story to life. Jeff points out how powerful the montage segments & unexpected break out performance from Pat Morita make this movie a timeless classic. Did you know? Without a doubt, one of the greatest sports movies of all-time and easily in Brian's Top 5 favorite films. 'Rocky' changed film making and storytelling forever and we discuss its legacy, the terrific backstory about the making of the film, and the many brilliant scenes that make 'Rocky' one of the most iconic movies in cinematic history. Starring Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire, Burt Young, Carl Weathers, and Burgess Meredith. Directed by John Avildsen.
Rocky is a 1976 American sports drama film directed by John G. Avildsen, written by and starring Sylvester Stallone.[3] It tells the rags to riches American Dream story of Rocky Balboa, an uneducated, but kind-hearted working class Italian-American boxer, working as a debt collector for a loan shark in the slums of Philadelphia. Rocky, a small-time club fighter, gets a shot at the world heavyweight championship. The film also stars Talia Shire as Adrian, Burt Young as Adrian's brother Paulie, Burgess Meredith as Rocky's trainer Mickey Goldmill, and Carl Weathers as the reigning champion, Apollo Creed. The film, made on a budget of just over $1 million, was a sleeper hit; it earned $225 million in global box office receipts, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1976. The film was critically acclaimed and solidified Stallone's career as well as commenced his rise to prominence as a major movie star.[4] Among other accolades, it went on to receive ten Academy Award nominations, winning three, including Best Picture. In 2006, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant". Rocky is considered to be one of the greatest sports films ever made and was ranked as the second-best in the genre, after Raging Bull, by the American Film Institute in 2008. The film has spawned seven sequels: Rocky II (1979), Rocky III (1982), Rocky IV (1985), Rocky V (1990), Rocky Balboa (2006), Creed (2015), and Creed II (2018). Stallone portrays Rocky in all eight films, wrote six of the seven films, and directed four of the six titular installments. In July 2019, Stallone said in an interview that there have been ongoing discussions about a prequel to the original film based on the life of a young Rocky Balboa.[5] SHOW NOTES: Rocky intro (0:01), we're joined by special guest and Rocky completist Paul Tinelli who discusses his special connection to Rocky the movie and the character (1:30), Sly Stallone's home life growing up and entry to movie business (3:00), Rocky origin story versus reality (3:45), Our guest Paul Tinelli gave his wife a 'Diner' test with Rocky on VHS on their first date (4:30), Rocky original ending and poster (7:00), How they shot the arena/fight scene with only 500 extras (08:00), 70's hangover decade and driving around in your Mom's Pinto (12:00), Rock with Cuff & Link the turtles and Moby Dick clip (14:00), Rocky is approached for the Apollo Creed fight clip (16:00), Rocky press conference shout-out to Adrian clip(17:30), Rocky has all the feels clip (18:00), Talia Shire clip with her and Burt Young from 'Rocky' (22:00), The 'Rocky' production design with LA interiors on sets and the run-and-gun Philly shoot (24:00), Rocky and Mick's fight at the gym (25:00), Rocky and Mick's incredible scene in Rocky's apartment (29:00), Burgess Meredith's great Twilight Zone appearance (30:00), Mike Medavoy and Arthur Krim story about Krim confusing Perry King with Stallone in 'Lords of Flatbush' (32:00), Joe Spinnell as Willie Cicci and the gangster in 'Rocky' (33:30), Michael Dorn from Star Trek is in Rocky, as is Troma Pictures Lloyd Kauffman (34:00), Stallone's online store is filled with amazing clothes, knives, and weird Stallonia (36:00), John Cazale was in five movies nominated for Best Picture (38:00), John Avildsen's career as a director (39:00), Paul's rundown on the best Rocky films (39:30), Bill Conti's iconic theme from 'Rocky' (43:00), Carl Weathers role as Apollo Creed (46:00), Philly Eagles fans eat horsepoop (47:00), Stallone and the ownership issues on 'Rocky' (48:30), Alternative Casting w/ (for Rocky) Ryan O'Neal, Robert Redford, Burt Reynolds, James Caan, John Travolta, Robert DeNiro, Warren Beatty, Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, Harvey Keitel; Lee Strasberg for Mick; Carrie Snodgress, Susan Sarandon, and Cher for Adrian; Stallone, Chevy Chase, and Travolta all auditioned for Han Solo in 'Star Wars'; for Apollo Creed, Ken Norton was considered, and Roger Mosely who was TC on 'The A Team' (51:00), Columbo Cinematic Universe (1:02:00), Latch Key TV w/ the opens and themes to 'Charlie's Angels', 'Laverne & Shirley', 'Alice', 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' theme was written by Sonny Curtis, a great songwriter who also wrote 'I Fought The Law And The Law One' and 'More Than I Can Say' (1:04:00), Voicemail to the pod from Super-Listener Frazer Rice recommends 'The Hidden' directed 'Wishmaster 2' director Jack Shoulder, and we play the trailer (1:12:45), Super-listener Jeffrey D Stevens is a set medic for major motion pictures and TV shows and wrote to the pod and we're gonna do a movie he suggested on next week's pod (1:17:00), 'Se7en' trailer (1:19:00). This week: [Boyhood, 2014, Richard Linklater] Much bally-hooed by the professional critical establishment, Linklater's unconventionally-produced coming-of-age drama now falls under the gimlet eye of the amateur critical establishment, as represented by, er, us. [Rocky, 1976, John Avildsen] I had a cat named Rocky. He died. Sorry to bring the mood down. [Mad Max 2, 1981, George Miller] He's not mad, he's just annoyed at himself for packing only black clothing for a trip to the post-apocalyptic desert.
