POPULARITY
A touchstone of the despicable, deplorable and degeneration of the time the BTTP crew grew up in. Is South Park the last bastion of equal opportunities offending left in this burnt out burgh we call society? Or is it a relic of a decayed era, now a stain on our more refined culture? Or is it a bit of both? We dive into 1999's South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut to pose these questions and so much more. And to rub Saddam's nipples while he tortures a familiar, muffle-voiced little piggy...

Episode 265 of “The Sports Experience Podcast” is here & we're back on the ice discussing Brian Boitano. The incredible Boitano was a force to be reckoned with during the 1980s. Overall, he won four straight U.S. Championships (1985-1988), won two World Championships (1986 & 1988) and won the gold medal at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary over his rival Brian Orser. Prior to their recent trip to New Zealand, Collin and Kerry looked up "New Zealand Christmas movies" and this was the result. "Kiwi Christmas" follows a typical formula for an ABC Family Christmas movie in which Santa Claus doesn't want to do his usual rounds on Christmas Eve, so he hides in Auckland, New Zealand and hangs out with a family during their Christmas barbeque. Wackiness ensues. Is the border patrol in NZ really as strict as they appear in this film? Can Santa really be Santa with only six employees? Will there ever be a Christmas movie or special starring Queenstown's beloved Cookie Muncher? All this, plus a robust Blu-ray Gift Exchange. Blu-ray titles covered: Warner Bros: "Purple Rain" (1984) (4K) "Godzilla x Kong: New Empire" (2024) "American Fiction" (2023) Criterion: "Blue Velvet" (1986) 4K "Fear and Loathing In las Vegas" (1998) 4K Paramount: "South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut" (1999) 4K "Team America: World Police" (2004) 4K MGM: "Class" (1983) Warner Archive: "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" (1941) "Act of Violence" (1948) "The Man I Love" (1946) "The Shining Hour" (1938) Sony: "Shotgun Stories" (2008) "Cat Ballou" (1965) Music Box Films: "Ennio" (2024)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut turned 25 recently, and Earth's Mightiest Critics are ready to celebrate with a foul-mouthed frenzy--a virtual caca cacophony!Okay, not really. But we will look back on Trey Parker and Matt Stone's 1999 big-screen adaptation of their revolutionary Comedy Central cartoon, which finds Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny awash in controversy over their desire to see the R-rated Terrance and Phillip Movie. This small-town scrape over appropriate media for children soon escalates into a full-scale culture war--and possibly a World War spearheaded by Saddam Hussein and Satan!Oh, and did we mention it's one of the catchiest musicals of all time?Join us as we sing praises, sling spoilers, and wrestle with the eternal "old movie" problem: "Could they make this today?"Plus: We answer your questions, comments, and SuperChats!Subscribe, like, and comment to the Kicking the Seat YouTube channel, and check out kickseat.com for multiple movie podcasts each week!Show LinksWatch the South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut trailer.Support all of Earth's Mightiest Critics at their various outlets:Check out Mark "The Movie Man" Krawczyk's The Spoiler Room Podcast.Keep up with Jeff York's criticism and caricatures at The Establishing Shot.Get seated with The Blonde in Front!Follow David Fowlie's film criticism at Keeping It Reel.Get educated with Don Shanahan at Every Movie Has a Lesson…...And Film Obsessive...and the Cinephile Hissy Fit Podcast.Keep up with Annie Banks at The Mary Sue....and We Got This Covered.Make Nice with Mike Crowley of You'll Probably Agree. And stir things up with Will Johnson of the Cinephile Hissy Fit Podcast.
South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut is...very funny. It's also absurd, obscene, and one of the best movie musicals not called Moulin Rouge of the last few decades. The humor of the show and the movie, though, has always been too things - edgy (bordering on shocking) and timely. South Park the series has produced some of the smartest, most incisive satire anywhere in its 25 years of existence, but that kind of humor doesn't always age well? So how does this movie hold up in that regard? We asked someone who loved it at the time - John's friend George Freitag - if he would still rave to strangers about it at Denny's like he did 23 years ago. Blame Canada, join La Resistance, and save Terrence and Phillip as we talk about South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, a title that refers solely to the the fact that the movie is bigger and longer than an episode of the show and did not have to be edited for television! A pretty solid week for new Blu-ray and 4K arrivals that Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski talk you through. They include, arguably, David Lynch's best film and the consequences if you choose an ice dancing show over it. Orson Welles' first foray into cinematic Shakespeare as well as a special collection of the cavalcade of films released in the wake of Bruce Lee's untimely passing. Joe Dante's loving tribute to the movies of our youth gets the 4K upgrade as do the works of Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Finally, is the film that truly launched Prince one of the best bad movies ever made or one of the worst great movies? We're jumping back into the draft room this week to take a look back at the best movies from the last year of the 20th Century. With Y2K looming, we spent the year hanging out in the Matrix, getting back into Star Wars and doing inappropriate things with baked goods. Rob, Dave and Kurt will attempt to draft the best movies in a year that had an Austin Powers sequel, multiple cartoons and some underground hits that turned out to be some of the best movies of all time. They'll laugh, they'll cry and they'll argue, but in the end, it'll be a ton of fun and we'll see who ends up with the best team of films. So let's go back to 1999, and remember, we're just 3 boys, standing in front of the fans, asking you to love us. The gang begins their Trey Parker and Matt Stone trilogy! They start out with the biggest of all, South Park! South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is a 1999 American adult computer-animated musical comedy film based on the animated sitcom South Park. The film was directed by series creator Trey Parker from a screenplay co-written with series co-creator Matt Stone and Pam Brady; and stars Parker, Stone, Mary Kay Bergman, and Isaac Hayes, all of whom reprise their roles from the series, with George Clooney, Eric Idle, and Mike Judge in supporting roles. The plot follows Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny as they sneak into an R-rated film starring the Canadian comedy duo Terrance and Phillip, after which they begin swearing. When the consequent moral panic culminates in the United States declaring war on Canada, Stan, Kyle and Cartman take it upon themselves to save Terrance and Phillip from execution, while Kenny tries to prevent a prophecy involving Satan and Saddam Hussein's intent to conquer the world. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut premiered at Grauman's Chinese Theater on June 23, 1999, and was released theatrically in the US and Canada the following week by Paramount Pictures, with Warner Bros. handling international distribution. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its story, soundtrack, humor and themes. Produced on a $21 million budget, it grossed $83.1 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing R-rated animated film until 2016. At the 72nd Academy Awards, the song "Blame Canada" was nominated for Best Original Song, but lost to Phil Collins' "You'll Be in My Heart" from Tarzan.

Jon somehow managed to trick Joe and Anthony from the Beards and Sundries podcast without Jay (it really didn't take that much convincing). The three take a deep dive into the world of South Park, discussing the movie, the series, and the franchise as a whole. Things get a little heated when they realize some things about the genius of Matt and Trey, and the trio talk about the songs in length especially Canada's theme song.Beards and Sundries Socials: @beardsandsundriesBeards and Sundries Website: https://beardsandsundries.com/Beards and Sundries Phone Number: (405) 999-2242Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!):https://uppbeat.io/t/yeti-music/twee-fmLicense code: TOEWDEXFDCKQ2NRPPodcast Socials -Email: butasongpod@gmail.comFacebook: @butasongpodInstagram: @butasongpodTikTok: @butasongpodTwitter: @butasongpodNext episode: Sweet Charity!

This week, Tripp and Ross wage war with Canada (or maybe with Trey Parker and Matt Stone) as they revisit South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. Along the way, they bring out their love for musical theatre and question what the line is between funny and insulting. But the most pressing question is whether they can talk about the movie for 50 minutes without getting the Explicit tag! Roger Ebert's review. Come on down to our podcast and have yourself a time. Laci and Matt have a long conversation about the 1999 Trey Parker-helmed South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. We go step by step through the movie and its history, as well as the larger history of the South Park TV series and how our relationships with it have changed over time. It's not easy spinning an animated show off into a big screen movie—you have to appeal to existing fans while bringing in new ones, and tell a story worthy of a big budget and an extended running time. So, does this movie pull it off? We compare it to The Simpsons Movie, Beavis & Butt-Head Do America, and The Bob's Burgers Movie to see how it well it holds up. Hey, we have a full video version of this episode up on YouTube. https://youtu.be/gedWc8El0Ig?si=e4zk7bw7LjoSeKQc

"O Canada" did not become the official Canadian national anthem until 1980 with the passage of the National Anthem Act. As National anthems go, it is a beautiful song. On O Canada the Vinyl Ventures crew share some of their favorite Canadian Artists. For this show Blame Canada like the parents of a juvenile character in the 1999 animated film South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut did. The film featured a satirical song "Blame Canada", the parents, decide to blame Canada for the trouble their children are getting into since watching a Canadian-made film. The song was nominated for an Oscar, it did not win. Kyle, Joe and Rick review the 1999 film, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut from Matt Stone and Trey Parker. With the soundtrack not being available on DSPs, the boys have to be very crafty in picking the songs they choose to rank, so they settle on 12 songs from the movie. They let you know if the movie holds up, play some of their favorite line and pick their favorite characters. Enjoy!
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is a movie with a Guinness World Record, an Oscar nomination and, miraculously, an R-rating. That R-rating contributed to it being the highest grossing R-rated animated film for seventeen years, too.If the Motion Picture Association of America had their way, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut would have been rated NC-17, but the irony doesn't stop there. The kids of South Park; Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny sneak into an R-rated movie, discover all the swears and their parents condemn the movie for being a terrible influence; and this is exactly what happened in real life, not just with the movie, but with the hit TV show that preceded it. South Park set out to offend everyone. The fact that this movie's main antagonists are Saddam Hussein and censorship goes someway to show how South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut prided itself on tackling current affairs, as well as its own form of social justice. It's a righteous warning against overbearing parenting, quick to blame popular culture for social issues, and the notion that cursing is bad on its own. It's also a terrific musical, still holds up remarkably well 23 years later, and proves that, should we need reminding, animation is very much not just for children. Moving along here from 1930 to 1940 brings a huge change in storytelling: from a gritty World War I film to a children's story about being your best. That's right – it's 1940 and we're discussing the Disney, animated classic “Pinocchio”. Join Adam and Ian (who have no strings to hold them down) as they discuss whether or not “Sleeping Beauty” is a good movie, serenade you with a song from “South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut”, and ponder about the purpose of art. This comedy, musical masterpiece led to many topics for our hosts to dissect. Ash argues that Terrance and Phillip give us the best movie song of all time. The trio debunk the dangers of profanity. Kevin and Ash declare that South Park may just be a brilliant tribute to Les Mis. Big D educates on how the film was used by the U.S. Army as a torture device.
