On this episode of the one-on-one series, host Neil Griffiths is joined by TEG CEO, Geoff Jones.
Brad Jones from the NFIB talks about the confidence (or lack thereof) of small Missouri business owners. COMO police chief Geoff Jones discusses his decision to retire and dispels some myths.
Columbia police chief Geoff Jones will retire effective August 1. He joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri". He's been police chief sine 2019. Chief Jones tells listeners that he told then-city manager John Glascock that he would stay for three to five years, when he became chief in 2019. He says he's been thinking about retiring for months, well before the Harpo's incident. Chief Jones tells listeners that he wants to spend more time with his family and children. He also says he's never felt more supported by the city council. He joined us in-studio on 939 the Eagle and NewsRadio 950 KWOS:
The Columbia Police Officers Association (CPOA) is asking residents to attend tonight's city council meeting to support law enforcement. Attorney Donald Weaver will address the council tonight and is expected to call on them to support law enforcement. The CPOA says criminals in Columbia have become more emboldened, noting a suspect recently allegedly tried to rape women on the MKT trail in broad daylight. The CPOA also says “pedestrians downtown and elsewhere can routinely be seen harassing others, littering and even defecating on the streets and sidewalks.” CPOA President Matt Nichols joined us live on "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", and praises police chief Geoff Jones and city manager De'Carlon Seewood. He's critical of the council vote on FUSUS and blasts what he describes as "crazy activists" who speak at council meetings, saying they bully the council:
Geoff Jones' bio includes singing in Sounds of Blackness, with several Penumbra Theater productions, and his was the voice of John Henry in a Walt Disney product. His singing repertoire spans decades of pop, and includes standards, soul and gospel, and others. Geoff is teaming up with guitarist John DellaSelva for an evening of great songs at Flying Dutchman Spirits in Eden Prairie, Saturday May 27 at 6PM. When Geoff spoke with Phil Nusbaum, Geoff addressed why he likes one of his most requested songs, Lovely Day.

Corruption is as old as humanity, with cases documented as far back as the Egyptian dynasties. While the World Bank estimates that international bribery exceeds $1.5 trillion annually, the larger and more subtle effects of corruption on economies and populations is incalculable. Harvard Business School professors Geoff Jones and Tarun Khanna explore how corruption uniquely affects business in emerging markets, and why it should be addressed by the public and private sectors.
Columbia Police have announced that they are resuming full enforcement of traffic laws. The limits were imposed during Columbia's declared health emergency. Columbia Police Chief Geoff Jones joined us live on "Wake Up Columbia" this morning to discuss the development. He also weighed in on the growing problem of stolen catalytic converters:

On this episode we bring in a very special guest, one of Calvin's Med School classmates and fellow cinephiles, Dr. Geoff Jones, to talk about Quentin Tarantino's third film, 1997's Jackie Brown. This ode to blaxploitation slash minor heist meets love story (maybe) gets the deep dive it deserves. From the performances (which didn't get enough award love) to the dialogue itself to the music to the locales. We cover it all. Take a load off and hang with us as Calvin, Joe, and Geoff discuss the dynamic performance of Pam Grier, Robert Forester, Sam Jackson, and even a (too brief) Chris Tucker appearance. The Australian Box Office was off 67% last year; live events and concerts smashed revenues for Ticketek parent TEG by 97% early in Covid. But now both company bosses are pinning their hopes on some huge content initiatives in the second half - consumer desire to get out is the least of their worries, they say. Hoyts is even looking to diversify beyond movies as film studios flirt with shortening or pulling exclusive theatre distribution windows. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
