In 1966 the Salvation Army opened a summer camp called Camp Timberlake, later known as Camp Arnold at Timberlake, near the west side of Mount Rainier in Washington State. Kids from all different backgrounds came to the camp to learn key core values: friendship, emotional growth, self-esteem, outdoor skills and most importantly, to have lots fun. A 12-year-old boy name TJ had been coming to this camp since it's opening, but this summer, the summer of 1968, would prove to be the most thrilling and testing yet.  His favorite activity was the last-day canoe races across Trout Lake, and while he came in second place last year, he knew this year would win the coveted trophy. It was all he could think about as he packed his backpack, ready to head off to Camp Arnold. Little did he know that this year... would change his life forever.TJ's name has been changed, as has Eddie's and Craig's, but to this day, only one camper has come forward that we know of with this story. And yet, there must be multiple campers and counselors who actually experienced this event, should it be true. In the majestic mountains and regal forests of British Columbia Canada, east of Vancouver Island and off the Pacific Ocean, lies a vast land rich with cedar, hemlock, pine and other evergreen trees that reach to the skies.  It's 1924, and Albert Ostman is taking a short break from his full-time job as a logger and construction worker.  He had heard the area was full of gold, and was ready to do a bit of prospecting, as was the common hobby of the wilderness during the turn of the century.  Men, and women, had found their fortunes in these hills, and Albert was ready to find his.  But according to his own account of that hot summer in the northern cascade mountains, what he found was much more valuable… and much more haunting. Thank you for listening to this retelling of the 1924 tale of Albert Ostman's abduction. Special thanks to Bigfoot Encounters, John Green and the First Nations people of the Tla'anim tribe of British Columbia. Dialogue used in this short story is created from the events of 1924 as recalled by Mr Ostman and is not necessarily accurate, but is based on extensive research and multiple retellings by Albert himself.  To read an extended version of this story, look for Green's book Sasquatch: The Apes Among Us.  If you enjoyed this episode, please leave a five star rating and a review which will help these stories get out there.  And again, don't forget to subscribe to the podcast, and visit us on instragram at pnw sasquatch shadows.
