He started as an intern in Santa Cruz, California, then went on to work for Youth For Christ, Navigators, and eventually worked as a youth pastor for nearly ten years in the Evangelical Free Church in Kearney, Nebraska. He saw first-hand how the lies of “new atheists” were impacting the young impressionable minds of his students. This led Tim to devote his life to answering “tough” questions about God and Christianity. As a result, Tim founded FreeThinking Ministries in 2015. Tim pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska-Kearney (B.A. 1997) and after working in full-time ministry for several years went on to attain his graduate degree from Biola University (M.A. 2014). More recently, Tim earned his Doctorate in Systematic Theology from North-West University (Ph.D. 2020).  His doctoral work primarily focuses on demonstrating God's middle knowledge and mankind's libertarian freedom (“Mere Molinism”), and how this view has apologetic significance. Along with FTM, Tim is a professor of Theology at Trinity Theological Seminary and College of the Bible. He has spoken to numerous audiences around the country and loves to engage in one-on-one conversations with anyone doubting or wrestling with the truth of Christianity. He spends much of his time recording podcasts and writing articles on his website. He also enjoys interacting with our culture via several social media outlets. On this episode I'm so honored to be joined by the poet Chelan Harkin. Chelan's poetry journey began at age 21 on the heels of a traumatic event, a mystical event and an unparalleled creative opening where inspired verse started to pour through her with very little need for editing. Her experience with channeling the muse was profound and intimate but also quite private. It took Chelan 12 years to find the courage to share her poetry with the world through her first self-published book, "Susceptible to Light". This publishing journey that began at the end of 2020 has been something of a magic carpet ride characterized by prayer experiments gone right and has included some of the most awe-inspiring events that have completely shifted Chelan's way of relating to herself and the world. Her current published books include "Susceptible to Light", "Let Us Dance: The Stumble and Whirl with The Beloved", "Wild Grace" and "The Prophetess: The Return of The Prophet from The Voice of The Divine Feminine". On the latest episode we discuss:* How a brain tumor and a subsequent pilgrimage inspired by her Baha'i faith led to a spiritual awakening for Chelan at age 21, which included an influx of divinely inspired poetry * How Chelan experiences her creative inspiration as a flow of energy that offers tremendous insight and wisdom* The generative nature of suffering, and why she feels like suffering is simply "energy that hasn't been brought back into the fold of love" * Chelan's incredible publishing journey, which was presided over by two of her favorite dead poets, Hafez and Khalil Gibran* Plus, she reads the first poem that ever flowed through her, "Say Wow" Here are a few notes related to this episode:* You can follow Chelan on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chani.harkin/. At age 21 in a time of mental/emotional anguish, Chelan Harkin had a profound mystical experience in which she was shown in no uncertain terms that she needed to live in a deeply transparent and authentic way and that she would access her gifts to the degree that she opened her heart to her whole self--her joy, her trauma, her power, her tenderness. In this experience, she was also shown that she would one day create a book of poetry that would encapsulate this message. Stirred up by this experience and recognizing poetry as a key to her desired goal of unlocking authentic expression, she decided to try an experiment on herself that would change her life irreversibly. While Chelan had recognized poetry as a love and a gift, its flow was blocked by self-judgment and the paralysis of perfectionism so she decided to allow herself to write "a bad poem" every day for 30 days. This permission unlocked a characteristically different creative process in her and a magnificent poetic force began to pour through her that has not stopped flowing. Her publishing journey in only two years old and has been mystical and transformational and filled with prayer experiments gone right. Find her books on Amazon, Susceptible to Light,  Let Us Dance!
