For thousands of years women have had a unique relationship with cats in many different cultures, often associated with fertility and protection, yet somehow in modern representations, women with cats are often portrayed as sad and lonely. So how did we go from revering women with cats, to pitying and stereotyping them as 'crazy'? The Quicky speaks to two experts of cats and the history of the 'crazy cat lady' trope, and a whole lot of self-confessed cat ladies to discuss why people who love cats are not sad, but in fact amazing individuals who have a special relationship with these beautiful creatures. It was at least 8 feet tall, and had light grey and brown hair covering its body. In the moonlight, Saatvik could make out the details of its face. Angry eyes, glowing crystal blue, stared them down. A scowl caused shadows downward toward its unusually prominent forehead. The mouth was open in a huffing position, steam exiting with every heave of its chest. And the mouth… the mouth ran red with fresh blood.”To read about the India Armed Forces footprint finding in 2019, visit If you have a potential story to share, one you'd like to hear set to a story-telling format, or would even like to discuss sponsorship, send an email to Russ@ommstories.com We've got some GREAT swag and gear that you can find on Redbubble and Tee Public too. You'll be taken into the wild, and will witness the stuff of nightmares... without being able to take your eyes off of whomever, or whatever, it is."Without warning, the creature began to jump up and down. Jason could almost feel the ground shake beneath him. With every landing of its massive feet, the ground around the tree shook. Leaves from the aspen tree fell to the ground in a shower of green, and the ominous sound of the pounding feet shook the core of Jason's confidence. He was sure he was going to die. But he kept watching. The creature stopped jumping, and began to wave its long arms in the air, back and forth, at the same time from left to right, in what seemed to be a choreographed motion with purpose. Popularly known as “The Cat Daddy,” Jackson Galaxy is the host and executive producer of Animal Planet's long running hit show “My Cat From Hell.” Jackson, an animal advocate and cat behavior and wellness expert, is also a two-time New York Times best-selling author with more than 25 years of experience working with cats and their guardians. He is on a mission to educate people about cats and deepen the human and cat bond, while reducing the number of animals that end up in shelters. Long before Jackson was known as “The Cat Daddy,” the working musician found he had a unique ability to connect with cats when he took a job at a local animal shelter. During the decade that followed, he worked with thousands of cats, successfully lowering the euthanasia rate at his shelter. His work at the shelter led to a private practice of working with cat guardians and cats in their homes, which helped keep cats out of the shelter in the first place, and became the premise for “My Cat From Hell.” An immediate hit, the show has been a broadcast staple for ten seasons and has become a global phenomenon, placing Jackson at the forefront of a worldwide obsession with all things feline. All along, Jackson has stayed true to his roots as a shelter worker, educator, fervent advocate and in-home cat family therapist. At the root of Jackson's unique approach is a philosophy known as “Cat Mojo,” which teaches cat guardians the skills to help their feline friends build confidence and thrive within their environment, and to better the human/cat relationship at the same time. Jackson has extensively detailed his work and life in his growing collection of authored books. His first, “Cat Daddy,” is a memoir, telling the story of a life-changing relationship with a cat named Benny during his years as a musician, shelter worker and an addict struggling to find a path towards recovery. His subsequent books, co-written by Cat Style Expert Kate Benjamin from Hauspanther.com, “Catify to Satisfy” and “Catification,” which both landed on the New York Times Best-Sellers List, focuses on designing a home that works for both cats and humans. His latest book, “Total Cat Mojo,” is a comprehensive guide to his approach on total cat wellness and eliminating behavioral problems by understanding cats and their instinctive behavior. Jackson has always been committed to bringing better products to the market that live up to his high standards. Jackson Galaxy Solutions, the only line of flower essence remedies designed by a behavior specialist and a veterinarian, has been helping animals live happier and healthier lives since 1995. More recently, his partnership with Petmate has brought a 20-year vision to fruition, providing innovative toys and products for every stage of a cat's life. True to his goal of helping to save all animals, Jackson started the Jackson Galaxy Project in 2015, now a Signature Program of GreaterGood.org, which seeks to better the lives of at-risk animals by transforming the places they live and helping the people who care for them. Jackson spends much of his time these days devoted to growing the reach and impact of the life-saving JGP Programs and partnerships, including Cat Pawsitive, which focuses on giving shelters and rescue workers the tools to train cats in their care in order to help them find their mojo and get adopted, Safe Haven, which retrofits domestic violence shelters so victims can bring their pets when leaving an abusive home, and Operation Homeward Bound, which is a transport program that flies cats and dogs to shelters around the country that have more room to find them new homes. Durning the month of December, we're revisiting some of our favorite, most informative shows. This is a rebroadcast of episode 175featuring cat behaviorist and host of Animal Planet's "My Cat From Hell", Jackson Galaxy - enjoy! It’s the Cat Daddy himself in this special episode of the podcast! Stacy has a fascinating conversation with Jackson Galaxy, the once-musician whose special bond with felines catapulted (sorry!) him to fame as a champion for helping people better understand cat behavior and find creative ways to help them. Season Eight of his show, My Cat From Hell, opens in late April with Jackson bringing 50 doomed kittens from Los Angeles on a van ride to Denver, accompanied by Kitten Lady Hannah Shaw. Jackson describes a number of the life-saving initiatives his foundation is piloting throughout the country, and gives a treasure trove of advice about what individuals can do to make a difference: “Every something that you do will save somebody." Jackson Galaxy, aka "The Cat Daddy" is the Host & Executive Director of Animal Planet's long-running hit show My Cat From Hell. With over 20 years of experience as a cat behavior and wellness consultant, he's also a two-time New York times best-selling author. Jackson, a life-long musician, discovered his passion for cats and his unique ability to help them while on staff at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley for the better part of a decade. He worked with cats both in the shelter, as well as in the homes of guardians threatening to send their cats to the shelter. During this time, Jackson co-founded Spirit Essences, a line of holistic remedies for animals that remains a vital business to this day. Animal Planet premiered My Cat From Hell in 2011. An immediate hit, it has followed The Cat Daddy for eight top rated seasons as he makes house calls to pet guardians and their cats. Jackson's presence offers clients a deeper understanding of why cats act out, with insights and exercises from his unique "Cat Mojo" philosophy. Jackson's first book, Cat Daddy: What the World's Most Incorrigible Cat Taught Me About Life, Love, and Coming Clean was a memoir published in 2012. His second book, co-authored with cat style expert Kate Benjamin, was Catification: Designing a Happy & Stylish Home for Your Cat (and You!). Upon its release in 2014, it reached #1 on the New York Times Animal Bestseller list. Jackson and Kate struck Bestseller gold again with Catify to Satisfy: Simple Solutions for Creating a Cat-Friendly Home, published in Fall 2015, inspiring and teaching cat guardians how to beautify their homes and address common cat behavior problems at the same time. His latest book, Total Cat Mojo, is due out for a holiday 2017 release. In the pet products world, a line of innovative cat items, from toys to carriers -- co-designed by Jackson -- is available through Petmate Pet Products. Called the Jackson Galaxy Collection, the line has received the Industry Recognition Award from Pet Business Magazine and the Editor's Choice Award from Cat Fancy, honors that ranked it among 2014's best products for cats. True to his goal of helping save the 4 million+ animals who die in shelters each year, Jackson is intensifying his work for animals through the Jackson Galaxy Foundation whose mission is to better the lives of at-risk animals by transforming the places they live and helping the people who care for them. Featured on 20/20, The Today Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tonight Show, EXTRA, The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post and more, Jackson's ability to connect with even the most troubled felines -- and the stressed-out humans living in their wake -- is awe-inspiring. We remember Gregg Allman and his musical legacy by re-airing our exclusive interview with him. Also on the show, professional wrestler Johnny Mundo (many fans remember him as John Morrison in the WWE). Johnny is now the reigning World Champion in Lucha Underground which airs Wednesday nights on the El Rey Network at 7pm CT. Then it's kid's music artist Laurie Berkner, talking about her release of her new book "We are the Dinosaurs." Finally, meet the host of Animal Planet's hit series "My Cat From Hell," Jackson Galaxy. Known as the “Cat Daddy,” Jackson is a best-selling author who works with cats to improve their behavior and help improve the relationship between cats and their owners.
Interview! Jackson Galaxy, Star of Animal Planet’s My Cat from Hell, and Founder of the Jackson Galaxy Foundation “I was used to not following rules and cats don’t follow rules for the most part.” It’s the Cat Daddy himself in this special episode of the podcast! Jackson describes a number of the life-saving initiatives his foundation is piloting throughout the country, and gives a treasure trove of advice about what individuals can do to make a difference: “Every something that you do will save somebody." Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience of recovering former cathouse dwellers… in the new new media capitol of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida! I hates cats. Maybe “hate” is a strong word. The problem is I’m allergic to them. I can think of many aspects of my life that would have turned out differently if it were not for the adult onset of cat allergies. Dinner parties I would not have had to leave early due to puffy, red eyes. Intimate social encounters uninterrupted by wheezing and breathlessness. You get the idea. So I can’t be around cats. And, I suppose, because of that, I do hate cats. JACKSON GALAXY audio excerpt: "When I first started, I wasn't the most comfortable walking into people's homes. We want the focus to be you and your cat, not the guy who might duct tape you to your chair. If you want somebody wearing a sweater vest, we probably weren't meant to work together." To me, then, all cats are sent from to us from Beelzebub. Which is why I instantly accepted the opportunity to interview rock guitarist and cat wrangler Jackson Galaxy on the occasion of his new Animal Planet mini-series, “My Cat From Hell.” The show debuts Saturday, May 7 at 9 p.m. I’d probably want to watch the show just for the spectacle of Galaxy himself – the shaved head, goatee and cat tattoos are quite a sight to behold, even before we meet the various felines on steroids. This should be fun.
