My name is Siavash Fashi, and I am the founder of SixPax Gym, the most successful small gym in America. But my journey to success was far from easy. Growing up in Iran during the war, I saw people dying and poverty all around me. Bodybuilding, something that brought me hope and inspiration, was even illegal because it was considered an American sport. But at the age of 16, I saw a picture of Arnold Schwarzenegger posing on the beach in California and it changed everything for me. He looked happy, strong, larger than life, and in control of his life. He represented everything I wanted to be. Unfortunately, at the age of 18, I was diagnosed with cancer in my right eye, which was not treatable in Iran. I knew I had to escape my country and the painful life I had. My dream was to someday be a bodybuilder and come to California, just like Arnold. It took me 7 years as a refugee in England to save up enough to buy a plane ticket to America and a fake passport. When my plane landed, I was arrested for that passport and spent my first year in America in a maximum security federal prison. But a judge ruled that I was allowed to stay, and when I got out, I was homeless on the streets. But I never gave up on my dream. I managed to make it to California, and with no money, I started my own gym. Through trial and error, I built an extremely successful gym with a perfect system that now makes me millions. But my success isn't measured by the money or the things I have, it's the lives I've changed. I am now living the American dream, with a beautiful house close to the beach, my truck, my muscle car, my Harley, and my beautiful dog, Milo. I have so many amazing friends who support my vision. And I am so blessed. It brings me so much joy to give back. That's why I wrote my book “Small Gym, Big Results” to show others how they too can build a successful fitness business from nothing, and change lives in their own community. I want to pay it forward and help others achieve their dreams, just like I did.

When I realized traditional fitness messages were contributing to negative body image, I changed my own approach to exercise to include body positivity and size-acceptance. I have created a few tools to aid in my mission of eliminating body shaming in the fitness industry that include my first book, Every. Body. Beautiful, and a new interactive workshop “Body Positive Basics for Fitness Professionals”. Through sharing my own battles with body image, I've found that I'm better able to serve others who are up against similar struggles. Fawad Akbar was overweight, it was something he had to live with his whole life; therefore he can understand the struggles firsthand. He constantly battled with injuries varying from back pain to joint issues caused by my weight. He went through life feeling unhappy due to my weight. I've always wanted to lose weight, but like most people, He enjoyed eating fast food and never liked working out. Nonetheless, even when I was motivated to work out, I would never see any changes in my body. As a result, I resorted to tons of crash diet plans and diet pills that never worked. All I was doing was throwing my money down the drain because at the end of the day, he ended up weighing more than when he began. At this moment, that is when I realized it was time for a change. I learned that the only way I will ever achieve my goals, is to do it the correct way. I had to change my lifestyle. After only a couple weeks of changing my diet to eating healthy clean foods and working out on a consistent basis, I started seeing changes in my body that I had never seen before. Dedicating myself to eating healthier and pushing myself to working out, resulted in my body seeing changes even faster. It wasn't an easy experience, but now I can proudly say that I am in the best shape of my life. Seeing my transformation, was such a rewarding feeling. Seeing how this changed my life, only motivates me more to help other people change their life. When you see an effective method that works, it only makes you believe in it that much more. My own personal experience makes me extremely passionate about what I do and has inspired me to help anyone that is looking to change their lives.
It is a privilege to be able to do something that you enjoy. What we particularly enjoy seeing as a coach is development and enjoyment. Development comes in different ways, it comes in the traditional tangible sense that the players improve their tennis skills, that allows them to rally for longer or be able to play points to a higher standard. Then there is the more subtle in seeing them develop as people learning skills that far out reach a tennis court. Learning sharper focus, to be fully engaged in what they are doing and mistake management but to name a few. Seeing these small improvements is why it is a privilege to be a coach. An idea that started over a year ago is now a reality in East Sacramento. Queers And Allies Fitness Center is up and running. The idea was to create a unique and comfortable space for the LGBTQ+ community looking to get in shape. Sarah Serbic and Hayden Glenn came up with the idea after noticing that the health and fitness industry lacked places focusing on the LGBTQ community, despite their big presence in the region.
