Here is a film that is eerily similar to what has been happening in the United States political world since 2016. The movie is All the King's Men, a story about greed, corruption, and those who blindly fall prey to those in power. Great direction by Robert Rossen, wonderful acting, and a script based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, launched this film all the way to a Best Picture Oscar victory for 1949? But 75 years later, does it still hold up enough to be regarded as the best film of that Listen to film critic Jack Ferdman's take on it as he analyzes everything about All the King's Men, as well as many other films from that year, and hear which film he gives his Rewatch Oscar of 1949.Download, listen, and share ALL Rewatching Oscar episodes.SUBSCRIBE and FOLLOW Rewatching Oscar:Website: https://rewatchingoscar.buzzsprout.comApple Podcasts/iTunesSpotifyGoogle PodcastsiHear RadioPodchaserPodcast AddictTuneInAlexaAmazon Overcasts Podcast Addict Player FMRSS Feed: https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/1815964.rssWebsite: https://rewatchingoscar.buzzsprout.comSocial Media Links: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, InstagramShare your thoughts and suggestions with us through:Facebook Messanger or email us atjack@rewatchingoscar.comMusic by TurpacShow Producer: Jack FerdmanPodcast Logo Design: Jack FerdmanMovie (audio) trailer courtesy of MovieClips Classic TrailersMovie (audio) clips courtesy of YouTubeSupport us by downloading, sharing, and giving us a 5-star Rating. She starred in the early 1950s crime show Defense Attorney, also known at The Defense Rests. McCambridge was so convincing that she receiving an honorary membership in the Los Angeles Women's Bar Association. McCambridge began her career as a radio actor during the 1930s while also performing on Broadway. She went on to appear in movies and numerous TV shows, winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her screen debut in All the King's Men in 1949. The multi-genre band Sublime gets a lovely tribute courtesy of guest Douglas McCambridge (the host of Good Times Great Movies! Podcast). Why did this band successfully mix R&B, Ska, Soul, Alt. An all-girl rock band in the future must make it across the galaxy for a high-end gig; sounds like the perfect set-up for a cult movie doesn't it? But Albert Pyun's barely-released VICIOUS LIPS from 1987 has much weirder ideas in store. Welcome to this week's “Friday Night Noir” on Vintage Classic Radio, where we delve deep into the shadowy world of vintage suspense and mystery. Our first feature is the chilling episode "The Voice on the Wire" from the "Inner Sanctum" radio show, originally aired on November 29, 1944. In this eerie tale, listeners are drawn into a harrowing plot revolving around a series of strange phone calls predicting deaths, including that of the protagonist, Ellen. As each victim receives a call, their fate is seemingly sealed, leading to a tension-filled narrative that keeps one on the edge of their seat. This episode is noted for its atmospheric tension and superb sound effects, which enhance the spine-tingling experience. The cast includes Mercedes McCambridge, delivering a compelling performance as Ellen, supported by Luis Van Rooten, Santos Ortega, and Berry Kroeger, among others. McCambridge's portrayal of the distressed and desperate Ellen is particularly noteworthy, adding depth to the suspenseful storyline. Following that, we have "Perchance to Dream" from the "Suspense" radio series, first broadcast on March 19, 1962. This psychological thriller explores the dark corners of a troubled mind. The plot centers on Charles, a man tormented by his dreams to the point where he fears sleep. Convinced that he will die if he falls asleep and dreams the final segment of his recurring nightmare, Charles seeks psychiatric help but grows increasingly desperate as he spirals towards a dramatic conclusion. The episode is a masterclass in building psychological tension and features an impressive cast led by Chester Morris as Charles, with support from Norma Varden and Ben Wright. Morris's intense performance captures the essence of a man caught in the throes of his own fears, making it a memorable episode of "Suspense." Both episodes are prime examples of mid-20th century radio drama, showcasing excellent writing, strong characterizations, and innovative use of sound to create suspense and fear. Be sure to tune in this Friday to experience these captivating stories from the golden age of radio.

Chuck Schaden interviewed Tony Randall on September 16th, 1970 at the Ambassador Hotel in Chicago. Eight days later Randall's new series The Odd Couple debuted on ABC. Randall played Felix Unger. The show ran for five seasons and became Randall's most-remembered role. He continued acting until passing away on May 17th, 2004. After I Love A Mystery went off the air, Carlton E. Morse penned a new serial drama entitled Family Skeleton. He cast Mercedes McCambridge in the lead role. The Program would air weeknights on CBS from June 8th, 1953 through March 5th, 1954. It pulled a rating of 3.3 for Sweetheart Soap. Mercedes McCambridge had many trials and tribulations. She was nominated for a second Academy Award for her role in Giant in 1956. She also voiced the demon in The Exorcist. She won a battle with alcoholism and penned an autobiography in 1981 called The Qualities of Mercy. Six years later her son John—a futures trader—was caught embezzling funds under McCambridge's name after she'd given him money to invest. Mercedes refused to cooperate with her son and the company he worked for. They wanted to institute a repayment scheme which would have kept the matter from becoming public. In November of 1987 John wrote a scathing note blaming her for his problems before killing his wife, children, and then himself. Mercedes appeared in one final TV role in 1988. Her second husband, radio and tv writer/producer/director Fletcher Markle, passed away in 1991. She died on March 2nd, 2004 in La Jolla, California.

McCambridge (Mary Mac) shares her over 35 years' experience with those who are grieving the death of a loved one. Before completing college, Mary Mac had experienced the death of four friends – two teenagers to drunk drivers and two college students to inoperable cancer. Later she would sustain many other deaths of family members and close friends including the murder of her former husband's 11 year-old daughter, which took them on an 18 year journey to help solve the crime. It was these life experiences that led her to become involved in the field of bereavement. Mary is host of The Mary Mac Show, where she lends her experience to comfort, soothe and educate those grieving the death of a loved one. The Mary Mac Show is currently heard in 60 countries around the world, is considered among the top 10 best podcasts on grief and bereavement and ranks in the top 10% of podcasts worldwide. She trained Assistant District Attorneys and Homicide Detectives on how to better communicate with crime victims and served as their liaison with families of homicide victims, often joining them at murder trials. She served as Founding Treasurer for the political action committee, Justice for All, and helped shape numerous pieces of legislation in New York to favor crime victims. She has served as consultant to media surrounding homicide cases. https://www.themarymacshow.com/ http://www.griefauthority.com
Carlotta Mercedes McCambridge was born to farming parents in Joliet, Illinois on March 16th, 1916. She graduated from Mundelein College. McCambridge began her radio career in the 1930s first in Chicago, and then in New York while also performing on Broadway. In 1949 she made her film debut opposite Broderick Crawford in All the King's Men, for which she won an Academy Award, Golden Globe, and the New Star of the Year. But no one who knew her was surprised. Orson Welles heralded McCambridge as the greatest living radio actress. Himan Brown almost never failed to cast her. Although she was an Academy Award winner, she was still a proud cast member of I Love A Mystery.
In the summer of 1949 NBC-TV approached Carlton Morse with the possibility of coming to New York to put One Man's Family on TV. Because the entire production would need to be re-cast, Morse had to audition a whole new group of actors. Mercedes McCambridge, who'd played on I Love A Mystery in Hollywood, was now working in New York and cast, while Russell Thorson was cast as Henry Barbour. Morse flew back and forth from New York to Los Angeles. On May 25th, 1949, Mutual Broadcasting presented an episode of The Family Theater called “The Man With a Plow.” Morse wrote and directed the episode from Hollywood. It was then that Morse had the idea of rebooting I Love A Mystery. Episodes would be recorded and transcribed, allowing actors with other commitments to take roles. Morse approached Thorson about starring and McCambridge about doing supporting parts. The cast soon rounded out with Jim Boles as Doc, and Tony Randall as Reggie. Morse received one-thousand dollars per week from Mutual to write the show, but rather than write new scripts, Morse simply re-recorded the original scripts with minor revisions and title changes. Russell Thorson and his wife helped Morse out with continuity. I Love A Mystery would re-debut over Mutual Broadcasting on October 3rd, 1949 at 7:45PM eastern time. The cast assembled a couple of times per week to record. Each show was recorded on sixteen-inch discs, airing on weeknights for fifteen minutes.

2.00" Tanya Thompson, one-time rally co-driver turned CTO at Sluamor, a software aimed at getting SMEs more and better business using intelligent search to identify opportunities in Ireland first, then the world. Sluamor also makes procurement easier by identifying relevant and capable suppliers. How they worked out their pricing is insightful. Tanya's 'hire in a heartbeat is Oprah Winfrey to help build Sluamor into a recognised world brand, just like Oprah herself!22.00" Michael McCambridge is the boss at the eponymously named McCambridges Bread, known and loved by Irish (and other) people both at home and abroad. Michael discusses how to build a bread 'brand', his court battles to stop possible 'passing off' of other breads as being the same as his 30% market leader, how he's testing different products on Amazon for both the separate UK and US markets and why he'd love to have his late parents, tragically killed in a car accident, back working with him as he'd hire them in a heartbeat.42.00" Chris Deans of CraneWW Logistics makes a welcome return to That Great Business Show since he last appeared on E4, correctly forecasting that we were going to eating smaller turkeys for Christmas (this year he's betting big on BIG turkeys). Chris discusses what's really going on in import/export including the massive increase in business at Rosslare Port, the even more massive rise in rail freight from China to Europe (yes, your container is wending its way on the slow train from China), but intriguingly Chris also discusses what's happening with the jewellery business in Ireland - including the many Rolexes sent to the UK for repair (50-60 per week), as we never knew there were so much Rolexs in Ireland! BTW, Chris wants Richard Branson (probably our most favoured pick to date) to join his team at Crane.57.00" Did your careers guidance teacher ever say you should become a forager to make a living? No? Do you know how a forager makes a living? No? Well, that's why we asked Geraldine Kavanagh to join TeamGBS. She's been foraging since she was very young and has turned her incredible knowledge of native plants into a business. She brings clients for foraging walks/picnics in Wicklow, and that's so successful she's totally booked out for summer. The other side of her business is finding the botanicals for the multi-award winning Glendalough Gin, and how she puts together the flavours is utterly fascinating. It's a 'business' like no other. Geraldine's 'hire in a heartbeat'? And her 'hire in a heartbeat' choice. Herself! Find out why. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In this episode, we meet Matt McCambridge, CEO and Co-Founder of Eden Health. Eden Health, offered through employers and commercial real estate building landlords providing health coverage to tenants, combines telehealth, in-person primary care, behavioral health and insurance navigation with what Matt calls a “‘medical home” method, centered around creating trusted relationships between the patient and a dedicated care team. Since launching in 2017, the company has partnered with more than 100 employers and has more than 40,000 covered members. In 2020, recurring revenue grew by 800 percent year-over-year, in part due to the company's COVID-19 response. Eden Health recently announced a $60 million Series C round, led by Insight Partners, bringing the company's total funding to $100 million in the span of two years. In this episode, Matt and I chat about: The genesis and early days of building Eden Health (industry context, validating early hypotheses, signing first employer customer) Why and how Eden partners with employers and commercial real estate landlords as buyers of healthcare services who are aligned with patient interests The rationale behind the evolution of Eden's service offerings: from primary care and navigation to behavioral health, physical therapy and specialty care How Eden has supported employers and patients during COVID-19 through testing, screening and back-to-work support Eden Health's long-term vision and the importance of culture

Recruiting recruiters that are an asset to your business can be challenging. Attracting the right candidates for the position and assessing their competency is no easy task. Retention and longevity of staff seem to be the Achilles heel of the industry. That begs the question, how do we attract, develop, and retrain great recruiters? Is there a secret method that recruitment firms are missing? Shaun McCambridge with Stellar Recruiting based in Brisbane, Australia joins me to discuss the method they've found most successful for recruiting recruiters. We'll talk about why Shaun started Stellar Recruitment, what he believes the key to their success is, developing genuine relationships with clients—and how to hire and retain the right people for your team. Outline of This Episode [2:33] Why did Shaun McCambridge start Stellar Recruitment? [5:26] Client partnerships is a key element of their success [7:35] How Stellar created longstanding partnerships [13:06] Increasing retention and longevity of staff [17:47] Attributes Shaun looks for when hiring recruiters [19:21] Assessing character during the interview process [22:45] Measuring performance after 12 months [31:15] Shaun's journey with personal development [33:49] What inspired Shaun to start his podcast? [35:50] The importance of mindset over talent and ability [39:16] The ‘20,000 Lives Changed' campaign [42:15] Stoic philosophy thought for the day The key to creating longstanding partnerships with clients Shaun believes that one of the largest factors that differentiate them in the industry is the relationship they build with their clients. 3 of their clients have worked with them from day one— for the last 14 years. Shaun points out that many recruiters can be transactional and focused on ‘closing the deal'. At Stellar, they strive to be genuine and honest while delivering on the promises they've made to their clients. Everything they do is relationship-based and they focus on remembering that they are engaging in human-to-human personalized interaction. In my experience, many of the recruiters I've worked with are experienced professionals who are genuine and honest. While there are some bad actors in the industry, I've found that many of the transactional recruiters are inexperienced. They are put under immense pressure to perform, to bring in revenue without the proper support or training. Shaun doesn't want this transactional dynamic in his business, which is why he places high importance on developing and training his recruiters properly. Keep listening as we discuss his methods. The secret to decreasing turnover and improving staff retention Shaun was fortunate to start his career with Hays, where he learned the ins-and-outs of the sales world among a group of like-minded competitors. When he left, his goal was to replicate the high-performing culture he experienced there in Stellar Recruitment. Retaining a core group of recruiters can be a powerful force in your business. With this goal in mind, he sought to create a culture where their recruiters feel empowered and challenged. They emphasize on-the-job training in their particular methods. They also provide organizational psychologists on staff to coach team members. They believe ongoing development and training is essential to longevity. Stellar helps their recruiters map out their career paths and implement personal goals that coincide with professional goals. Shaun stated that “Stellar should be a vehicle to achieve outside of work”. Finding fulfillment in their roles with personal and professional impact is key to retention. Shaun also stands by the practice of promoting from within. Making progress and growing through the ranks leads to engagement which Shaun points out leads to retention. Recruiting recruiters: Assessing attributes of a candidate during the interview process There are 3 attributes that Shaun looks for when they're hiring new staff: character, competitiveness, and above-average intelligence. They want to hire people who are nice human beings that treat people well. But they also want to hire people who are driven and competitive, with a desire to win, succeed, and challenge themselves. People with above-average intelligence tend to be more coachable and capable of articulate conversations. They also try to ascertain whether or not the candidates stack up against their values (greatness, positivity, and leadership). I was curious—how do they assess some of those character attributes during the interview process? Shaun stated that they observe candidates from the moment they walk into the building. Were they polite and friendly with administrative staff? How are they conducting themselves? They also utilize a 4-step interview process where you can see how they interact with hiring managers and other staff. If there are any “holes” in their stories, they become apparent through this lengthy process. They also use targeted and specific questions to gauge the character of candidates. One question they like to use is, “What was your relationship with your previous supervisor?”. Some potential hires throw their bosses under-the-bus, which is a clear indicator they didn't value that relationship. They have a tried and true series of questions to gauge the fit of the candidate. Shaun admits that it isn't 100% foolproof, but they've found great success with their model. A unique way to judge performance Numbers are important in this industry and it is imperative that you're reaching your goals. However, Stellar Recruitment measures against another benchmark they find just as important—client satisfaction. They use Setmetrics to track performance and routinely have clients complete surveys to gauge satisfaction. Customer service in the industry can be poor, so they've found that placing importance on it sets them apart. News travels fast if you aren't performing and aren't keeping your clients happy. So they've become passionate about customer service. They also use metrics to track engagement with their recruiters. If they're underperforming, or their interaction with clients is leading to a low satisfaction survey score, it's a warning sign. They use internal surveys to monitor their staff and if there are engagement issues they can remedy them. They want to be sure that their recruiters are still enjoying their work and being challenged. Shaun and I agree that the best recruiters embrace a growth mindset and that it is critical to success. Those with a growth mindset are resilient, believe in themselves, and embrace challenges as a means of learning and pushing forward in their career. In this episode of The Pulse podcast, we interview Matt McCambridge, Co-Founder and CEO of Eden Health about his entrepreneurial journey in building the future of patient-centered healthcare. Eden Health is a new kind of doctor's office that combines a private primary care practice, 24/7 telemedicine, and a personalized insurance navigation into one simple platform.
Reconstructing Healthcare: Innovative Solutions For Employers To Lower Their Healthcare Costs
In this episode, Michael introduces Matt McCambridge, the co-founder, and CEO of Eden Health, a virtual primary care and navigation platform centered around care teams. Eden Health helps employees navigate today’s complicated healthcare landscape across insurance, primary care, and mental healthcare so they can make smart, well-informed and cost-conscious decisions. Matt had a personal situation that influenced his decision to move out of the venture capital space to launching a start-up in healthcare. When Matt’s sister was sick as a kid, Matt and his family personally witnessed the broken components of the healthcare system. Now, Matt is seeing how the “coordinated care” offered by Eden Health has made a difference in the lives of patients like his sister. Eden Health is a certified Primary Care Medical Home - the top-of-the-line quality certification in the country for primary care; this model emphasizes team-based care, communication, and coordination, which has been shown to lead to better care and why Eden has integrated specialties like behavioral health and physical therapy. The reason for including behavioral health, Matt explains, is that many other health issues are rooted in mental health conditions and these must be addressed to make meaningful progress with the patient’s health conditions. Matt’s company is different than other in-person or virtual primary care solutions in that it is highly integrated with a core focus on eliminating the employee’s hassle as a patient. Typically, it’s very confusing for employees to figure out where to go and for what, which is why Matt believes you simply cannot separate navigation from primary care and delivery. For this reason, they have an app with the accessibility to virtually chat with a doctor 7/365, and this connection enhances the solutions offered. By leveraging technology, they’ve been able to provide their users with the appropriate instant and personalized care. Eden Health also offers physical locations across the country for those who need it, and will even send a provider from their pool on-site to the workplace. Matt understands that the key to helping patients is engagement - and that engagement is more likely to occur if patients are receiving high-quality care through an integrated platform that they can easily use. Eden Health tracks their patients’ satisfaction with star ratings, and they proudly report an average of 4.95 out of 5 stars with a 75% response rate. Employers can engage with Eden Health in two ways: They can either fully-cover Eden Health for unlimited access or fully-insured with a fee that is reduced when insurance is taken into account since they would be considered an in-network provider. Eden Health has an exciting road ahead as they expand into new geographies and continue to grow and serve. Here’s a glance at what we discuss in this episode: 00:30 - Introducing Matt, the co-founder and CEO of Eden Health. 03:00 - The insights Matt received about healthcare from doing venture capital. 04:50 - The problems with the current primary care model. 10:00 - How Eden health is different from other primary care solutions. 13:20 - The importance of engagement that’s backed up by quality. 14:30 - Why behavioral health is integrated into the program. 17:00 - On their certification as a primary care medical home. 18:50 - Why it’s important that Eden Health makes 66% fewer referrals to specialists. 21:20 - The process behind their specialist “closed-loop referrals” and how they short-cut the patient journey. 24:45 - Pop-up on-site visits, permanent brick and mortar clinics, and the experience they create in the workplace. 27:30 - On the trusted patient-provider relationship, how it keeps patients healthy over time, and a case study. 32:00 - On the integration of navigation at the...

Seeing as we're in the dead of winter, what better time to cover a director whose films aren't exactly fast paced? Douglas McCambridge of Good Times, Great Movies stops by to discuss his love for physical media and the late Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky, who was never accused of MTV style editing, fleeting attention spans, or happy endings, and whose films include: Ivan's Childhood (1962), Solaris (1972), and The Mirror (1975).

It's the rootinest tootinest hoedown in the west! Filmmaker and friend of the show, Caroline Golum, is on hand to tell us why she thinks Nicholas Ray's JOHNNY GUITAR should be included in the Flixwise Favorites List. She's gotta convince her fellow panelists, Lady P and Anne Marie Kelly, that Joan Crawford's turn as a reluctant gunslinger is more than just campy fodder for the midnight movie crowd. JOHNNY GUITAR wasn't a great commercial or critical success upon its release, but the years have been kind to Nicholas Ray's alternative cowperson picture. Much has been written and said about its queer subtext and overt feminist themes. Our panel tackles these subjects and they deliberate over whether JOHNNY GUITAR is worthy of entry into the great movie canon.
MVNU Student Kenny McCambridge gives the message.
Another Wednesday, another edition of Canadian Musician Radio. With all of these great summer festivals and tours, we've been able to deliver a heap of artist interviews, and this week is no different. Join us as we catch up with Juno-winning six-piece "folk popgrass" outfit The Strumbellas, singer-songwriter Astrid Young (also the half-sister of the one and only Neil), and Ryan McCambridge. The Strumbellas are playing summer festivals across Canada and the U.S. this summer, continuing to promote the sophomore album, We Still Move Dance Floors. While its predecessor, My Father and the Hunter, was nominated for a Juno Award for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year in 2013,We Still Move Dance Floors actually took the trophy earlier in 2014 and was recently long-listed for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize. They're more focused than ever now, and we'll find out why. Musician, composer, actor, author screenwriter, and sommelier Astrid Young released her fourth solo record, One Night at Giant Rock, at the end of June. In a special performance, Young is kicking off her "psychedelic acid folk" tour in southern Ontario in late July and will work her way west. The album, featuring Victor DeLorenzo of the Violent Femmes is a collection of songs that reflect her personal discovery of the karmic meaning of all her relationships. She speaks about the long gaps between records, some of her other musical endeavors, and more. Finally, in addition to being a studio engineer who's been the right hand man of producer/engineer David Bottrill (Peter Gabriel, Tool, Dream Theater), Ryan McCambridge has been making music under the moniker of A Calmer Collision. We talk about the sonic balance he's struck between modern rock and electronica as well as how his experience in the studio informs his work as a musician and more.

The CBS Radio Mystery Theater (or CBSRMT) was an ambitious and sustained attempt to revive the great drama of old-time radio in the 1970s. Created by Himan Brown (who had by then become a radio legend due to his work on Inner Sanctum Mysteries and other shows dating back to the 1930s), and aired on affiliate stations across the CBS Radio network, the series began its long run on January 6, 1974. The final episode ran on December 31, 1982. The show was broadcast nightly and ran for one hour, including commercials. Typically, a week consisted of three to four new episodes, with the remainder of the week filled out with reruns. There were a total of 1399 original episodes broadcast. The total number of broadcasts, including reruns, was 2969. The late E.G. Marshall hosted the program every year but the final one, when actress Tammy Grimes took over. Each episode began with the ominous sound of a creaking door, slowly opening to invite listeners in for the evening's adventure. At the end of each show, the door would swing shut, with Marshall signing off, "Until next time, pleasant...dreams?" THIS EPISODE: January 24, 1975. Program #211. CBS network. "Flowers Of Death". Sponsored by: Vigne Wine, Buick, Sine-Off. E. G. Marshall (host), Sam Dann (writer), Mercedes McCambridge, Larry Haines, Roberta Maxwell, Gilbert Mack. 52 minutes.

DEFENSE ATTORNEY - Playing radio's last lady crime fighter was a prominent actress, Mercedes McCambridge. The series began on NBC under the title "The Defense Rests" in the spring of 1951. NBC soon dropped it so ABC picked it up, kept the same cast, re-titled it :"Defense Attorney" and aired it from August 1951 to December 1952. McCambridge, portraying an attorney named Martha Ellis Bryant, spent virtually no time in the courtroom and instead was in the streets, solving crimes and mysteries. She was assisted by her boy friend, Jud Barnes, a reporter, played by Howard Culver (whose "Straight Arrow" series had just gone off the air.) Six episodes of the ABC series and one of the NBC version have survived and all attest to the excellent writing, good acting, and fast pace of a well-done adventure show. When Attorney Bryant solved her last case on 12-30-52, it brought down the curtain on OTR's lady crime fighters.
