Some of today's top storiesIt's the biggest election day on the primary calender... Super Tuesday is here... and our local polls are just hours away from opening up. Whether you got your ballot in the mail or you're making sure to head to the polls later today, we've compiled everything you need to know. Polls are open from 7:00am to 8:00pm today.You can head to www.kernvote.com, and click on the tab "Poll Site Look Up" to find the closest polling site. If you prefer using the drop box method, you must make sure to drop off your ballot before 8:0pm tonight at any of the 19 ballot drop boxes. Kernvote.com can also assist you in finding the nearest drop box. If you recieved a ballot by mail, you do NOT have to surrender it when coming in to a polling site to vote.You will not have to show ID to a site volunteer, unless it is your first time voting and you did NOT provide your driver license number, California identification number or the last four digits of your social security number on your registration form, you may be asked to show a form of identification when you go to the polls for the first time. Local candidates are doing last-minute campaigning ahead of today's big election Three candidates are vying for David Couch's District Four seat on the Kern County Board of Supervisors. All of them are Latino... and if one of them were to win... in would be the first time the district had a Latino supervisor. Candidate Salvador Solorio-Ruiz says voters want new representation. All three challengers have local government experience... including Alex Garcia, the mayor of Wasco.... and Veronica Vasquez, a Delano City Councilmember. We reached out to Supervisor Couch, but have yet to receive a response. The city of Arvin is mourning the passing of its long-time mayor this morning. Olivia Trujillo has died after a long battle with cancer.Yesterday, the city announced Trujillo peacefully passed away in her home over the weekend. She was the first woman, first Latina, and first immigrant elected as mayor for the City of Arvin. Some leaders say they will remember Trujillo for her hard work to move Arvin forward. Trujillo was 67 years old. Her seat is now in the hands of Arvin city council members. They can either hold a special election or make an appointment. Arvin's city manager Jeff Jones tell us it appears an appointment will be made.
