For the past few years every Monday is my CEO Day and these have become non-negotiable for me. They are a partial answer to the common complaint of, “I never have enough time to work on my business!” If you are waiting around to find the time, it'll likely never come. That's why it's imperative to intentionally pre-plan it out and get it on the schedule. It doesn't matter what day of the week it is, or the frequency, that's for you to decide. But having them gives you time for the things that help drive future success without leaving you scrambling to get everything done. Things like financial tracking and forecasting, content planning and creation, business development tasks, strategic planning, and more. If you consistently market but aren't getting consistent sales it might be because you aren't adding in enough sales activities. When you're a solo-entrepreneur or have a small team you're often doing these in tandem and the lines can blur. Plus, in our “content-centric” online spaces it can seem like the answer is to simply post and wait for people to flock to you. Yes, your content can convert on it's own, but if you're a service-provider, consultant, or coach who works directly with clients it's really important to add sales activities into the mix. Part of why marketing feels so hard is there's a lot of uncertainty around it and also so many options. With digital advertising as opposed to print or TV advertising, it means that ideas move incredibly fast now. New trends pop up all the time and because of the nature of social media it's really easy for them to spread. It's also really easy for people to teach them, including in a monetized way. This isn't a bad thing by itself, especially because it's a lot of really wonderful people doing the teaching. But it can be hard when you don't know if it's worth paying attention to; at least not right now. This sense of overwhelm and frustration from entrepreneurs who are just trying to grow their businesses while also having time for themselves is often what leads people to say that they hate marketing. If you've been in business for a bit, and have been working with clients, you might have reached a point where you're finding yourself at a frustrating growth plateau. While it feels so nice to finally have people paying you, now that you're serving those clients you have even less time to work ON your business. You're trying to be consistent with your marketing, and you have new offers you want to create, but it just feels like there's not enough time. And it likely feels like a fluke each time you get a new client too. Everything feels like a bit too much, and not enough, at the same time. And when you think about all of the possible options to get out of this place, it's really overwhelming. You cannot afford to waste time on the wrong thing. But what is the right thing? When everyone is selling you a different tactic it can be hard to tell. Not to mention, you might try it out and figure out it's all wrong for you. At this stage what you need is foundational strategies for the next level, which is what I'm sharing with you in this episode. You know that you can grow your business using the 'gram, but it seems so frustrating sometimes! Especially if you want to be an authentic human making real connections instead of feeling like you're always performing to make a sale. And the information out there can be really overwhelming. There are content calendars, and caption templates, and hashtag banks...oh my! And when you actually wade through all of that and post regularly it's still not turning into money in your bank account. It's no wonder entrepreneurs feel so frustrated with it! It seems like a massive, impersonal time suck. That's why I brought on IG expert and Rebellious Success member Jillian O'Keefe to explain how to show up in a way that feels sustainable, honors who you are at your core, and attracts & converts your absolute perfect-fit clients without gimmicks or gross tactics.

Strategy vs. Tactics & How to Use Both for Growth

If you've felt like you're doing a lot of work week after week but it isn't really moving the needle forward in the way you'd like, it could be because you're focusing too much on tactics, and not enough on strategy. Both are important but sadly the online world tends to push tactics heavily, while strategy often gets overlooked. This is typically because people can have lots of questions about a specific tactic, thus making it fairly lucrative to sell info products that explain it. What ends up happening though when you don't have an overall strategy behind what you're doing, is that you end up spinning in circles, doing busy work, without big results to show for it. Then it appears as if the tactic is flawed, so you find a new one, learn it, try it, and the cycle keeps repeating. This clearly isn't sustainable, but the antidote is strategy! That's why in this episode I explain both and how to put them together so you can get to your goals faster and with more ease. Links: Rebellious Success

Pricing is very subjective. Even value based pricing is subjective. We have to stop dictating how people price without understanding the full context of their business, audience, or expertise and experience. So much of pricing advice is to just "increase your rates" or "double your rates," and while that can work, sometimes that isn't even what would make a huge impact on sales for someone. Because I know this is an area where nearly every entrepreneur struggles, and there's so much conflicting advice out there on it, I wanted to get the viewpoint of an expert who has been doing this for various clients for over a decade. Is it ok to just create something in Canva? Is it worth spending the money to hire a pro? And when would I need to rebrand? Because there are often more questions than answers when it comes to branding I had my friend and Brand Design expert Kaila Piepkow on to talk all things visual branding. Pricing is tricky, nuanced, confusing, nauseating, horrible, exciting, stressful, liberating, empowering, annoying, and basically just a really emotional process that unfortunately doesn't have clear-cut answers. I don't subscribe to the belief that everyone should just "double their rates," for several reasons. If you aren't aligned with that price and cannot confidently quote it, you will self-sabotage in marketing that offer. It might not make sense for the type of client the offer is for. But because this comes up time and time again with clients, friends, and in my own business I wanted to share even more, especially as it relates to some ways online entrepreneurs are making things harder than they have to be when it comes to pricing & selling their offers. [summer rewind] How to Stop Relying Solely on referrals

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 23, 2021 36:51

Referrals are really awesome but it's hard to plan ahead in business and be intentional when you are at the whim of others. You need a marketing routine in your business that is sustainable for you and makes sense for your business and your goals. People generally don't want to do the marketing tasks in their business. Typically these are not Zone of Genius activities. We'd rather just work with clients doing the work we super love, and hope that new ones would magically appear. And even for people who get booked up on referrals, often what happens is they still want their revenue to grow so they need a new, scalable offer and then once they have that, they still need a marketing system that leads people to it. Before we dive into strategy, it's important to acknowledge the role that mindset plays here. The purpose of marketing is to get more visible by those who are most likely to hire you. This can feel really vulnerable. If we can view our marketing systems as something we do to keep our businesses successful, and to enable us to do the work we love, it's easier to approach these tasks with a supportive mindset, rather than a demotivating one. These are some simple things you can do each week, month and quarter to get fresh eyes on you: -emailing your list and getting people to it with helpful free content -social media: don't be all the places, if showing up all the time annoys you then batch, outsource when possible -trainings/teachings in places where you ideal client hangs out: paid/free communities, organizations, podcasts, events, other people's social media platforms, guest blogging -networking: look for local meet ups and such that make sense for you; start your own, coffee chats -collaborations: JV webinars, joint trainings -SEO/Pinterest -Paid ads (learn from someone really good or outsource this) Some you can do each week, some make sense to space further out. The point is to be consistent, because consistency in effort will give consistent results. As opposed to a "boom and bust" cycle of only waiting until you are scrambling for new clients to start marketing. Give really great value on your own platforms, and don't forget to keep making new connections. Then track where new clients are coming from if they aren't from referrals to see what's working and what isn't.
