Hey Friends~ You know in your gut when things are not going right, even if you don't have the words.  It's even harder when you tell someone, but you are told that everything is fine… but you know SOMETHING IS UP.   This is the case for today's guest.  She knew that her son needed more help in his sound development, but was constantly told everything was fine.   Started seeking help when her son was 18 months old, asking doctors, friends, family members, and more  and finally… when her son was 4, the school teacher called out the same concerns that mom knew all along.  She was validated and felt such relief. Now, she was empowered, having a direction to go for help!  If this is you, you know this is so frustrating!  Hang on for today's story! And, if this is you, then you need a person who knows how to ask the questions, who knows how to probe what is actually happening with your child. Talk to me!  I can help.  And, whether or not we are a fit to work together, you will leave the conversation with a clearer understanding of what is going on,  how to talk about  it, and a next step. In this raw and powerful episode, I open up about the hardest lesson I've learned as a mother — and how it changed the way I think about investing in support. When I tried to navigate my son's special education needs by myself, I lost six years of his growth and development. Not because I didn't care — but because I thought I had to do it all alone. I didn't even know advocates existed. By the time I realized how much help was available, I'd paid for it in time, stress, and missed opportunities. Just like so many women who come into my program, I had to grieve what could have been — and then make a bold decision to stop the cycle and invest in a better future. In this episode, you'll hear:

Hey Friends~  Sometimes it is helpful to hear success stories!  We know that raising kids is a marathon not a sprint, and that means that success stories occur millions of times while raising our kids.  Sometimes- when challenges are significant, we need to dig even deeper to find wins along the way.   Today's guest tells her story of raising a child with Cerebral Palsy.  She learned to celebrate along the way, listen to the therapists, and follow the lead of her heart as well as listen to her son.  In doing so, they found success!  Non -verbal to verbal to even speaking on a podcast!   Remember parents, life is a journey.  Always remember to celebrate!  The little wins are important - and they add up!  I know you will feel so encouraged and enlightened by this conversation. But behind the glamorous façade of The Real Housewives, Armstrong had her own personal drama. She hid a very dark secret; her husband, Russell, had been physically, verbally, emotionally and financially abusing her for years. Following the familiar pattern of many domestic violence survivors before her, Armstrong witnessed domestic violence in her home as a young child – the abuse of her mother at the hands of her father. Thankfully, Taylor was able to break the cycle of violence. After six years of abuse with Russell, she found the courage to leave. Tragically, soon after, Russell took his own life. Armstrong and her young daughter, Kennedy, found themselves starting their lives over while the whole world watched. In 2012, Armstrong authored her first book, Hiding from Reality: My Story of Love, Loss and Finding the Courage Within. The autobiographical account of Armstrong's life and personal experience with domestic violence became a New York Times bestseller. She is preparing to release her latest book "The Comeback Queen" this year.

In this deeply moving episode of Warriors Unmasked, Chuck Thuss welcomes two extraordinary guests, Terry McGuire and Dr. Anita Sands, for a powerful discussion about mental health, resilience, and the importance of giving a voice to depression. Terry, an award-winning journalist and co-host of the Giving Voice to Depression podcast, shares her lived experience with depression and how it led her to create a platform that has reached millions. Dr. Anita Sands, a licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience, opens up about her own challenges with chronic illness and neurodivergence, explaining how these experiences shape her work and advocacy. Together, they offer insight into the often misunderstood nature of mental health struggles, the power of vulnerability, and the tools that can help individuals navigate depression, anxiety, and other emotional challenges. Key Takeaways from the Conversation: Mental Health is Not Always Obvious: Terry shares how even after experiencing depression before, she didn't recognize it when it hit her hardest. She emphasizes that depression is deceptive—it convinces people they have no worth, even when they've overcome it before. The Importance of Self-Awareness & Early Warning Signs: Both Terry and Dr. Sands highlight how recognizing the early signs of mental health struggles can help prevent deeper crises. Knowing when to reach out for help is crucial. The Lies Depression Tells: A recurring theme in their work is the idea that depression lies. It convinces people they are alone, that they are a burden, and that nothing will get better—none of which are true. The Power of Vulnerability: Chuck, Terry, and Dr. Sands discuss how opening up about struggles creates a space for healing, both for the person sharing and for those listening who may be suffering in silence. Building a Toolbox for Mental Wellness: The guests share personal tools that help them manage their mental health, including self-compassion, mindfulness, journaling, seeking connection, and prioritizing rest. The Mission of Giving Voice to Depression Terry and Dr. Sands co-host Giving Voice to Depression, a podcast that ranks in the top 1% globally and has helped countless individuals feel seen and heard.
