On this installment of the Redacted History Podcast we take a look back at the life and accomplishments of Harvey Milk, a Navy Veteran and the first openly gay man to hold political office in America. We also look back at his untimely death, how that unfolded, and his legacy. June 18, 2025 – The Trevor Project received official notice yesterday that the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is initiating the closure of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline's LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services program within 30 days, effective July 17, 2025. Jaymes Black, CEO of The Trevor Project, released the following statement in response: “We received official notice that the Trump administration has ordered the closure of The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline's LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services program, effective July 17, 2025. This means that, in 30 short days, this program that has provided life-saving services to more than 1.3 million LGBTQ+ young people will no longer be available for those who need it. “This is devastating, to say the least. Suicide prevention is about people, not politics. The administration's decision to remove a bipartisan, evidence-based service that has effectively supported a high-risk group of young people through their darkest moments is incomprehensible. The fact that this news comes to us halfway through Pride Month is callous – as is the administration's choice to remove the ‘T' from the acronym ‘LGBTQ+' in their announcement. Transgender people can never, and will never, be erased. “Congress can still act to reverse this fatal decision. We are asking everyone to join the overwhelming public support for evidence-based crisis services, and urge Congress to act. Learn more by visiting TheTrevorProject.org/ActNow. In September 2022, The Trevor Project began providing its best-practice crisis services to LGBTQ+ youth through the 988 Lifeline. When individuals contact the 988 via phone, text, or chat, they are given the option to “press 3” or “reply PRIDE” to be connected with counselors trained specifically to assist LGBTQ+ contacts up to age 25. Initially, The Trevor Project served as the sole provider for the pilot phase of 988 LGBTQ+ youth specialized services, before transitioning to serve as one of seven centers that currently make up the LGBTQ+ Youth Subnetwork. The Trevor Project serves nearly 50% of the LGBTQ+ youth specialized services' contact volume. In 2024 alone, The Trevor Project directly served more than 231,000 crisis contacts, and trained and supported nearly 250 crisis counselors and operational support staff to support the 988 Lifeline. Previously, the LGBTQ+ Youth Subnetwork received up to $50 million in restricted federal funds to provide these life-saving services. The Trevor Project's supporters in the House and Senate advocated for the continued funding for these life-saving programs. The organization launched a petition to demand lawmakers protect LGBTQ+ youth and an Emergency Lifeline fundraising campaign. On June 2, 2025, more than 100 entertainment icons – across film, music, TV, sports, theater, comedy, fashion, culinary arts, and book publishing – joined The Trevor Project's sign-on letter to protect federal funding for LGBTQ+ youth suicide prevention. SummaryIn this episode of The Chasing Health Podcast, Chase and Chris dive deep into a common summertime mindset: feeling like it's the worst time to focus on your health. They talk about how many people delay their goals because of vacations, cookouts, or busy schedules, but that just keeps you stuck in the same cycle year after year. Instead, they encourage you to work on building better habits that fit your life now, not later. They break down how real coaching is different from just dieting, it's flexible, realistic, and helps you enjoy your summer while still making progress. Whether it's learning how to enjoy that cookout without guilt, or how to shift routines as summer schedules change, this episode shows you that summer can be a starting point, not a setback.Chapters(00:00) Why Summer Feels So Hard for So Many(01:36) "There's Always Something": The Year-Round Excuse Loop(03:18) Dieting vs Coaching Through Summer(05:07) How Our Clients Are Winning Without Being Perfect(07:00) Life Doesn't Pause—So Why Should Your Goals?(10:29) Dirty Keto, Real Coaching, and Building Flexibility(12:53) Coaching Through Real Life (Even Grad Parties & Ice Cream)(14:35) Planning for Success, Not Perfection(16:51) Tools to Navigate Events Without Diet Guilt(19:06) Breaking the Cycle of Falling Off & Starting Over(22:04) "I'll Start After…" Is Keeping You Stuck(24:23) Changing Routines? This is episode 57 of the Love, Hope, Lyme podcast. To get your free pdf of "Love, Hope, Lyme: What Family Members, Partners, and Friends Who Love a Chronic Lyme Survivor Need to Know," reach out to Fred Diamond on social media. [NOTE: This podcast does not replace medical treatment. If you struggle with Lyme care, please see a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor.] For decades, Lyme disease survivors have faced an uphill battle—dismissed by doctors, forced to wait years for appointments, and left without clear paths to healing. In this powerful episode of the Love, Hope, Lyme Podcast, Fred Diamond speaks with Dr. Monica Embers, a leading Lyme disease researcher at Tulane University and contributor to The Quiet Epidemic, and Kevin Williams, co-founder of Ravel Health and a chronic Lyme patient of 18 years. Dr. Embers shares the hard truth: “There is no central place for patients to turn.” She explains why outdated diagnostic tools, lack of federal investment in treatment research, and misinformation have left millions without answers—and how new tests and targeted therapies are finally changing the game. Kevin Williams opens up about the deeply personal reasons he and co-founder, Jaime Intile, created Ravel Health: to spare others the years of pain and medical gaslighting they endured. Ravel now offers accessible, virtual, Lyme-literate care across 46 states with no waitlists and personalized treatment plans.
Coercive control was legally criminalised in NSW on 1 July 2024. Solicitor, Oliver Slewa, worked as a policy officer in domestic violence for the NSW Department of Communities and Justice. He says, according to the NSW government, coercive control is when someone repeatedly hurts, scares or isolates another person to control them. It's domestic abuse and it can cause serious harm, so it's important to know the signs.

But behind the glamorous façade of The Real Housewives, Armstrong had her own personal drama. She hid a very dark secret; her husband, Russell, had been physically, verbally, emotionally and financially abusing her for years. Following the familiar pattern of many domestic violence survivors before her, Armstrong witnessed domestic violence in her home as a young child – the abuse of her mother at the hands of her father. Thankfully, Taylor was able to break the cycle of violence. After six years of abuse with Russell, she found the courage to leave. Tragically, soon after, Russell took his own life. Armstrong and her young daughter, Kennedy, found themselves starting their lives over while the whole world watched. In 2012, Armstrong authored her first book, Hiding from Reality: My Story of Love, Loss and Finding the Courage Within. The autobiographical account of Armstrong's life and personal experience with domestic violence became a New York Times bestseller. She is preparing to release her latest book "The Comeback Queen" this year.

After my daughter Sally was born, I stopped sleeping. During the day, I had a hard time looking at my baby because I didn't feel like I could take care of myself, let alone her. Up to this point, I had managed my natural melancholy okay on my own, but after a terrifying panic attack, I reached out for professional help. I attribute my quick decision to get help to my older sister, Sarah, who has fought mental illness since she was a young teenager. This time of year can be especially difficult for many emotionally. That's why I'm dedicating three episodes to the focus on mental health in motherhood. On Monday, you heard Sarah and I discuss depression in motherhood. Today's episode is focused on how to get professional help. Next week, you'll hear from Sarah's husband, Logan, about how to support a loved one who's struggling with mental illness. In this second episode of the series, we discuss: - A practical tip to help you stay honest with your doctor & therapist - A few helpful thoughts if you're scared to try medication. - Two kinds of therapy you might not have thought about before. For full show notes, including takeaways, click here. Whether you are struggling with mental illness or you have a loved one who is, I hope you find this series of episodes helpful.
