I have long considered myself a nomad. In 15 years, I've lived in at least 15 homes. But something happened along the way. The more I moved, the harder it became. We're moving again in two weeks and I'm feeling it. And so I've had to a LOT of inner work lately to keep myself going. I know I'm not the only one who struggles with this from time to time. So I thought it'd be helpful for this series to talk about what survival mode looks like—and what you can do if you find yourself there.Question of the episode: What is blocking you from receiving?HONORABLE MENTIONS:Chani Nicholas is awesomeGlow Mail (sign up for this if you don't want to miss info on the upcoming workshop on generational traumaEpisode on the Upside of StressEpisode called Broke and OptimisticThank you for listening! Let's cut straight to it: after much thought and deliberation, I have decided to shut down the Waitlist and change the way I do free readings. In this episode, I share my journey to that revelation and how I'm creating space to use my spiritual gifts in a way that supports myself as well as everyone else. I am so glad to be back! I'm interested to hear what you think and see how this is going to land! My thought in creating this is that there might be other people who feel how I do. It's vulnerable to share the ideas that I have entertained, but I think it's important because it's so easy for us to get in our little bubbles and refuse anything that is outside of them. I don't think it's dangerous to listen to or contemplate strange or impossible ideas. I think it's important.Couple of things have become clear as I ventured down these rabbit holes.First, I trust other people, even when they're wrong. Even when they're wildly famous. I believe that at the end of the day, humans are good. I know that we have done some unspeakable evil to each other. I'm not condoning that. But I think that if we, as a society, could get to the core traumas that keep people in survival mode and work together to fix broken systems, those evil acts would drastically lessen. Second, I do not think shaming others inspires them to change. On weekends, when I have a little more time to meditate, I go deep. Sometimes I read my Akashic Records or have a long chat with my guides. For a couple of years when I first began the practice of meditating, every weekend, I used a regression meditation that I found on YouTube by Dr. Brian Weiss to access my past lives. The meditation doesn't exist in that form on YouTube anymore, and so I wanted to create something for you that you could return to if you are also on a journey of healing through remembering and making meaning of your past lives. I hadn't listened to this since I recorded it last October. It was emotional, listening back to it while editing. There are things we forget with time. The pain that was so acute on a particular moment in history melts away and all we have is a vague memory that it meant something. The stories we tell echo where we are in our lives. This time last year, I was fighting carpenter bees and learning to trust myself. A couple of years ago, I became enchanted with the idea that I could have psychic gifts. I'm not 100% sure where the thought came from, but I started listening to a podcast called Psychic Teachers and I had a psychic aura reading from a friend and trained psychic. Sporadically, I offered what I called "intuitive readings" to my Instagram following, but I was a little to chicken to say the word "psychic."And then one day, on a total whim, I did. I jumped headfirst into psychic land—not on Instagram, on TikTok, where I had given myself the liberty of being a little more weird. The response was overwhelming—and amazing. It still scares me a little. I find myself thinking, "are therapists allowed to be psychics?" The answer, of course, is a resounding YES. One of the things that has been most encouraging is how many fellow social workers and therapist want to get a reading!
It's helpful to talk about grief. It's helpful to try to wrap our heads around it—in part because we are, at least momentarily, removed from the all consuming nature of it and allowed to conceptualize its theory. Philosophy gives us a break in that way. In this episode, I tell the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead and then share a bit about what I make of all of it. I also tell a personal story of grief. It's harder to talk about that. I talk about reincarnation, too. At the end of all of it, I share some thoughts on how ordinary mortals like you and me can connect with loved ones lost. It's a rambly one, for sure.Grateful for you.HONORABLE MENTIONS:First episode of Throwing LightEpisode on what the heck I believe called Spiritual CookiesShelby Forsythia's book, Permission to GrieveThank you for listening! A couple of years ago, Amanda Flaker's YouTube channel stumbled onto my radar. I was more than a little intrigued by this seemingly magical being, often sitting in the woods, talking to "empath entrepreneurs" about shadow work and "exiting the matrix." These last few years, the way she conceptualizes the world and our role in it has become a constant encouragement and has helped me to hone and better articulate my own message of "shifting into shalom." Her words and her work have been especially meaningful to me these last few months as the world has turned upside down. I reached out to her in May to see if she would be up for a having a conversation on Throwing Light. I was so thrilled when she said yes! We talk about everything from what it means to be an empath to how it's not enough to be anti-racism, with a hefty dose of weird spiritual wisdom thrown in for good measure. Listening back to our discussion as I was editing this episode to publish was surreal. I have been playing with these ideas for several years now, but being able to talk about them with someone who is intimately familiar (and who has been one of my biggest inspirations on this Throwing Light journey) felt like waking up in a dream. I say in the intro that I hope it all makes sense. I feel like this is the kind of episode that you need to listen to a couple of times, because there are layers of wisdom hidden in her words. Maybe I'm hyping her up too much. And maybe you won't agree with everything she says. It's all okay. I hope this blesses you. It definitely blessed me. This meditation came to me one evening after I had finished putting dirty clothes in the washer. Someone was occupying the bathroom, so for a few moments, I just stood there looking at my hands—waiting to wash them. As my attention rested on them, they began to tingle and the Muse dropped the idea of a "dirty hands meditation" into my head and heart. Love to you during these difficult days. I hope this brings you comfort and healing.--Thank you for listening! How do you connect with your higher self? What does he or she look like? Have you ever prayed to a god or a goddess that was not part of your tradition of origin? Why am I quitting my job?? All good questions! At the beginning of May, I put in my month's notice. In this episode, I talk about why and what I'm doing next. I also share a meditation that I did that helped me integrate part of my shadow self and remind me that God is not (only) a man AND I don't need a man to save me. Hello friend! I am very excited to share this meditation with you. I actually made it over a year ago for a class I taught. But there's a new moon today, and so it felt like a great time to share. The meditation takes about 8-10 minutes to complete. It's my own version of a meditation that I fell in love with from Dr. Joe Dispenza in his book, Becoming Supernatural. If you find it helpful, please share with someone who interested in manifesting their deepest desire! Thank you for listening! I hope it blesses you. :) Thank you for listening!
