How to Steal a Nigerian Election

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 11, 2023 128:05

On this episode , following Nigeria's 2023 Presidential and National Assembly Elections Osayi, Ayo, Mira and Tola explore the reasons for our trust issues with INEC by brainstorming the best way to steal an election (with the consent of INEC of-course). We ask whether they have been set up to fail at the institutional level, or if it's due to political corruption (pay to play). Could it be that it's not their fault? Because the nature of Nigerian Politics, which seems to always have a tinge of violence and intimidation (and now hacking), is INEC simply a victim? In the second half of the podcast we desperately attempt to find a positive spin by discussing what integrity would look like, we come up with innovative ideas since real electronic voting seems to be off the table. Despite the circumstances, this episode is a lot of laughs, I mean what else is the option at this point. ** Music **Theme Song by 1705muzikBlood, Sweat & Tears - Dreamville, Bas & Black Sheriff ft. On this episode we discuss the ENDSARS protests, at the time of the recording it’s been just over a week since the Lekki toll gate massacre on Oct 20, to put things in perspective as we recover from the shock, we attempted a SWOT Analysis, for those unfamiliar, a SWOT analysis is a popular way big and small businesses assess their ability to jump into a new market. These past weeks have beckoned on us Nigerians to assess the situation of our country and how each and every one of us is affected and can contribute to end police brutality and bad governance in Nigeria.   So, what exactly does this mean for anyone with a stake in the country? We invite Tobi of TheNotSoLazyYouth (TNSLY) to join us and talk about what the people on ground were able to do, some of the challenges that they (we) have to overcome, the support and lack there of by the older generation and what we in the diaspora can do to support this cause.  At this point, we should mention that we will be taking a bit of a hiatus, for now, check out our previous episodes (they age well) and let us know what you want to see next in the DMs. Follow TNSLY https://www.instagram.com/thenotsolazyyouth/ (here), support https://donate.thenotsolazyyouth.com/ (here ) Hosts:https://my.captivate.fm/instagram.com/shipwreckflo ( Folarin) &https://my.captivate.fm/instagram.com/osayixc ( Osayi)

Future As A Way of Life

Future Shock, the dizzying disorientation brought on by the premature arrival of the future.  Alvin Toffler’s 1965 article https://www.benlandau.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Toffler-1965-The-future-as-a-way-of-life.pdf (“Future As A Way of Life “ ) breaks down what rapid changes in culture look like and what sort of impact this has on human beings and society. In his writing, Toffler argues that we need to build the habit and skill sets required to predict what may lie ahead. An unwillingness or inability to do this will essentially lead to people walking around - blindly - asleep to what is coming and therefore susceptible to the phenomenon of future shock.  We explore how to frame this phenomenon and how it could impact our environment, personal relationships and the economy. Crisis Generation

In his book “The Laws of Human Nature”, author Robert Greene points out that the generation we are born into shapes our thoughts and values, whether we are aware of this or not.  "Certainly we bring our own individual spirit into play in this drama, and to the degree that we can cultivate our uniqueness, we will gain power and the ability to direct the zeitgeist. But it is critical that we recognize first the dominant role that our generation plays in our formation, and where this generation falls in the pattern.” Our task therefore is threefold. First, alter your attitude towards your own generation. You are as much a product of the times as anyone.  Second, pay close attention - look at the trends, fads and events that consume our times. Look at the heroes and icons we glorify. Find the pattern that will characterize this moment. Third, expand this knowledge to something further. Identify how the generational power dynamic is shifting in the present and you can develop a sense of where the world is headed.
