What a lovely weekend I had in Texas visiting my Aunt! It was jam packed with artistic and cultural experiences. A very special Friday morning was a studio visit with my Instagram Robin Maria Pedrero. It was our first time to meet in person and we had so much to discuss. On my return to Michigan, I said to Armin that we needed to invite her to be our podcast guest and here we are! Robin Maria Pedrero creates with skillful use of color and texture to bring to life unique works of art. An award-winning artist, her work appears in museum permanent collections in Florida and Greece as well as corporate collections, publications, and film. Her first solo museum exhibition took place at the Orlando Museum of Art followed by the Lake County Museum of Art in Florida. She is an elected signature member of the Pastel Society of America, and in 2012, was awarded Best Artist in Florida by Baterbys' Art Auction Gallery. Pedrero is listed in Florida International Magazine's Florida Artists Hall of Fame, and she won an international wine label contest with her art featured on a limited-edition Artiste Wine label in California. Pedrero's artwork has been selected by Tamara Day for Bargain Mansions and featured on HGTV and Magnolia Network. Her work has been collected around the world in several countries. Currently, Pedrero creates from her studio at Millhouse in the Cotton Mill in McKinney Texas.Armin and I talked with Armin about her different revenue streams for her art, her beautiful studio in the Millhouse Mckinney complex, and Robin's role as artist and curator for different exhibits throughout the world. If you are ever in the Dallas area be sure to check out her studio in Millhouse located in McKinney, an arty suburb with a super ambiance of history, art and dining. Check out all the show notes. More than 100 Palestinians died trying to get food from an aid convoy earlier in the week. We hear from Gaza's small Christian minority, most of whom have been sheltering in two churches, as well as from ICRC's Matt Morris on the challenges aid agencies face in getting aid across to a people on the brink of starvation. The 26-year-old artist claimed a record-breaking six prizes, including Best Artist and Best Album. She also became the first woman to win songwriter of the year. Raye is outspoken about her life as a committed Christian, and has even suggested that God saved her from taking her own life. She's talked about her faith to the BBC music correspondent, Mark Savage. The prime minister's dramatic appearance at the Downing Street lectern on Friday night, warning of extremists "trying to tear us apart", followed days of roiling political turmoil; the row over the now former Tory MP Lee Anderson claiming that the Mayor of London is "controlled" by Islamists, the claim by another Tory MP, Paul Scully, that parts of London and Birmingham are "no-go areas". All these things played into debates about extremism, race and religion. A report by Jasdeep Bahia looks into one of those so-called no-go areas, and Edward Stourton speaks live to Hope Not Hate's Nick Lowles who conducted a poll on Tory Islamophobia, as well as Tory MP Paul Scully.Editor: Tim Pemberton Presenter: Edward Stourton Producers: Bara'atu Ibrahim & Linda Walker Studio Managers: Sue Stonestreet & Mike Smith Production Coordinator: David Baguley

Today I get to talk to one of my favorite artists and pop culturesleaze encyclopedia, Mitch O'Connell. From a very early age, Mitch knew he wanted to be an artist, and his love of watching The Ghoul and Svenghoulie became his muse. From the utterly hilarious to the outright bizarre, if it's kitschy or cult, Mitch is likely going to draw it. He tells me about being a teenager travelling alone to NYC to schlep his portfolio to comic book publishers, magazines, and anywhere else he thought might need art, all while taking time out to avoid the rats in the movie theaters of Time's Square. He tells me about dropping out of art school, because he had begun working professionally, which was way better. We talk Tor Johnson, John Waters, and the spritual joy and comfort we both find in the cheapest of B-movies. He also tells me about his wonderfully infamous Time's Square billboard mocking the then Presidential candidate Trump. Find out more about Mitch here: Mitch O'Connell Etsy Threadless Instagram You can also hit up my friend Elysia at Irvington Vinyl and Books. She can get you a copy of any of Mitch's books, and you'll be supporting one of the last independent book stores in Indiana.

Doug Stone talks to jazz musicians about life, music, recent and upcoming performances, equipment and current events on this Tenor Talk Podcast recording. A different jazz musician is featured in each episode. This episode features Brad Walker and was recorded January 14, 2020. Brad Walker is one of the most active and sought-after performers in the city of New Orleans. Perhaps best known for his “soaring” (Rolling Stone), “energetic” (NPR), and “tasteful” (Relix) solos on Saturday Night Live, the Grammys, and the Tonight Show with Nashville mega-star Sturgill Simpson, Brad Walker is an active and compelling artist in his own right, with five full-length releases under his own name and a decade of music- making in the Crescent City under his belt. His 2014 debut, ‘Quintet', received a 4-**** review in DownBeat magazine, and his playing has received praise in Variety, OffBeat Magazine, Gambit Weekly, Dig!, and many others.Since 2009 Walker has performed or recorded with such luminaries as Bernard Purdie, Peter Erskine, John Riley, George Porter, Jr., Zigaboo Modeliste, Anders Osborne, Marcia Ball, Rickie Lee Jones, Valerie June, Better than Ezra, and countless others, and has led the horn sections for Grammy-winner Sturgille Simpson, Blues Award-winner Ana Popovic and OffBeat Award winners Eric Lindell, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, Honey Island Swamp Band, and Colin Lake.In 2019/2020, Walker was nominated for two ‘Best of the Beat' Awards (OffBeat Magazine), in the ‘Contemporary Jazz' category as ‘Best Artist' and for ‘Best Record'. He was also nominated by the ‘Big Easy Awards' (Gambit Magazine) for ‘Best Contemporary Jazz Artist'. Brad holds a Bachelor of Music degree in classical saxophone performance (2006) and Master of Music degree in jazz studies (2011), both from Louisiana State University.Learn more about Brad here: https://bradwalker.me/homehttps://www.instagram.com/thisisbradwalker/?hl=enhttps://www.facebook.com/bradwalkermusic/ https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7kMuikSH6hb4DCdI4KDTasHJftaAPcrU Let's connect: Website: https://www.dougstonejazz.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dougstonejazzsaxophone/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100089874145057 If you want to learn more about jazz improvisation and be part of the Doug Stone Jazz community get on our email list! https://www.dougstonejazz.com/about Head over to the Doug Stone Jazz Shop for some fun jazz merch: https://www.dougstonejazz.com/product-page/just-play-the-changes-long-sleeved-shirt #dougstonejazz #jazz #podcast #musicianlife #musicians #tenorsaxophone #jazzmusicians #jazzinterview #musicianlife
We are giving ALL our thoughts on the Love Island reunion. We discuss why we don't think Maya Jama is the best person to host the show, we talk about the islander's outfits (there were some AWFUL choices) and we consider what we would change about the reunion if we were ITV. This episode we also discuss the VMA nominations - we celebrate our favourite nominees and we talk about why no men have been nominated for Best Artist this year. And finally, we talk about the prison sentence Tory Lanez has received for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. It's been a busy week! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

With the alphabet in the rear-view, this special episode is the File Under: Entertainment Music Madness Tournament, pitting the 56 artists covered in season 2 to determine the best of the best. Joining Eric in this journey are: Super Producer/Co-host Jared, from 'Feathers And Friends' and 'Parrot Gaming Productions'. Mark from The Evil Mark Show, the head degenerate on the fastest growing sports show taking the world by storm, which you can hear each Thursday (with ME!), and each Monday, for the NFL/(After Hours in the offseason) show, with Jared. Find out more information at www.evilmark.com and check out the Twitter feed. Jake & David, from Life Is Unfair, THE 'Malcolm In The Middle' rewatch podcast that you can hear each Thursday, as they go in chronological order through the series. They're also part of the incredible Twitch channel, Lets Play Deathray, where they variety stream all sorts of awesome content, banter back and forth, and interact with their community in amazing ways. Definitely check that out, especially on a Sunday Community Night, where you'll catch them (and also sometimes me), playing Jackbox games, Gartic Phone, Minecraft, or any number of fun games. They stream every night except Friday and Saturday's around 7:30 PM MST. Jake is also a published author! That's huge! He wrote a segment in Bi-Visibility, which you can order here. AND Eric's wife Megan makes a triumphant return to podcasting to help us with our voting and upstage Eric with the laughs. I get into the details pretty quick into the episode, but for those who like to read the show notes and know exactly what's in store before pushing play, here's the rundown (what the hell's a rundown? inside joke for Mark): March Madness is in full swing, and even if you aren't a fan of sports, or college basketball in particular, tournament time lends itself very well to pop culture discussion, which is what we are going to do here today, pitting the 56 artists that we've covered in this music season against each other to determine who is the best of the best. I was browsing Reddit, and in the Industrial music thread was a post where a user was looking for band recommendations, and Music-Map.com was recommended, which is an algorithm based program where you input an artist and it tells you similar artists that you may be interested in. Finding it to be fairly accurate when playing around, I decided to check which artists we had covered on the show were referenced on other artist pages. As I started to keep track I was wondering, what the hell am I doing this for, what am I going to do with this information, and then it hit me…..also being a sports fan, I knew that the college basketball tournament was coming up, colloquially known as March Madness, so I decided, File Under Entertainment will have a tournament of our own, to determine which artist is “the best” of those we've covered. With a 56 team single elimination tournament, there are no regions and multiple 1's, 2's, etc. It is seeded 1 – 56, with the top 8 seeds receiving first round byes which means that the #9 seed, Bob Dylan, has the distinction of facing off against the lowest rank #56 seed, The Zutons with 10 vs 55 and so on. After our introductions we get right into the matchups and just like REAL Tourney-Time, there are a lot of upsets and unexpected twists. No spoilers directly from me, I encourage everyone to listen to the drama play out in real time, but I guess if you were so inclined you could cut to the chase and have it revealed for you by following the runners-up playlist link here, and the Champions playlist link here. Some more special music related episodes will be coming your way soon, but for now, enjoy this feast of the senses!

Hang out with Al Mega as he chats with award-winning comic book creator and graphic novelist Rich Koslowski. Tune in to learn all about his latest project from Top Shelf/IDW, F.A.R.M. System & more… Rich Koslowski's Website: https://www.richkoslowski.com/ Rich's Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rich.koslowski F.A.R.M. SYSTEM SYNOPSIS: In the Farm System, having an incredible and unique power is only the first step. Guided by an army of agents, managers, and experts, recruits must undergo rigorous psychological evaluations, harassment and sensitivity seminars, marketing, and endorsement workshops, and costume design meetings, all to boost their chances of recruitment into an A-list superhero team. Some recruits make “the Bigs”. Some have fleeting moments of glory, then lose it all. Some take “Blue Cowl” gigs as superpowered bodyguards for famous actors or powerful CEOs. Some flounder in the System for years, never getting “the call”. And some find success by joining teams of a… less reputable ilk. Following the profound pop-culture satire of Three Fingers, The King, and BB Wolf and The Three LPs, award-winning graphic novelist Rich Koslowski examines the hopes, disappointments, perseverance, and triumphs of the super-gifted… and the sometimes drastic lengths they will go to achieve fortune and fame. ABOUT RICH KOSLOWSKI: Rich Koslowski is best known for his fan-friendly comic book series The 3 Geeks (later Geeksville), as the recipient of three Eisner Award nominations, and for the much-lauded graphic novel Three Fingers in 2002 (published by Top Shelf Productions), which won the coveted Ignatz Award for Outstanding Graphic Novel and was named as one of the 500 Essential Graphic Novels by Harper Collins in 2008. In 2005, his second graphic novel with Top Shelf, The King, was released and has been published in multiple foreign languages. In 2007, he wrote his first novel, a Christmas thriller entitled The List. 2008 brought Koslowski his first writing assignment for Marvel Comics, rebooting their popular Guardian character, now named Weapon Omega. Koslowski's writing of Weapon Omega was recognized with a Prism Award. In 2010, his third graphic novel with Top Shelf, BB Wolf and the Three LPs, was released and Koslowski won the Glyph Award for Best Artist. Thank You for Watching / Listening! Rob GEE on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 1/12/23 About Rob GEE - Rob GEE is famous all across The Universe as "the hardest DJ to ever play the Limelight in NYC." In the club's early 90's heyday, the versatile GEE kept delirious audiences going through spinning at Limelight's "Future Shock" dance/techno nights and performing with his live band as well as spinning at the club's "Rock And Roll Church" metal/ rock/ industrial nights. The crowds kept coming back to Limelight, just like they did in Australia, Japan, Italy, Spain, Scotland, Austria, Hungary and Belgium to name a few. GEE is a recurring headliner at Sensation,Thunderdome, Mysteryland, and Love Parade, where GEE played before one million people. His diverse appeal keeps him performing weekly at all types of musical events and concerts. GEE has shared the stage with everyone from Hatebreed and Biohazard to Crystal Method, Busta Rhymes, Kurtis Blow, and Afrika Bambaataa. His GEEness has also has spun at many Slipknot and Korn after parties with his good friend, DJ Starscream a.k.a. #0 of Slipknot. GEE's history of DJing and live performances shows his dedication of bringing the fusion of organic and electronic music to a wide variety of listeners. GEE's love of hip-hop, hardcore, techno, metal and every other genre for that matter set him apart from the rest. While other DJs make tracks and spin records, GEE is an Artist who writes original songs. His indecisiveness as to whether or not he wanted to breakdance and spin hip-hop or jump in the mosh pit and play in a metal band was one of the reasons he began to cultivate his own style of both. Rob GEE is the only artist of his kind to collaborate and create with members of respected rock, metal, hardcore and hip-hop acts such as Slipknot, Hatebreed, Biohazard, Wu-Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, and System Of A Down (just to name a few) creating a unification of Rock, Electronic, & Metal as well any other style GEE chooses to use. The GEEsult is Rob GEE gabber music. Rob GEE says, "There are no boundaries in music" . GEE is writing history launching gabber into the scene of the galaxy...... "The Gabber Guru," as GEE is known for his constant motivation of #PositivianVibes gained worldwide fame after the release of "Ecstasy You Got What I Need". The song went Gold and was the #1 video on The Box for 13 straight weeks. At the same time, "Ecstasy" rose to #9 on the pop charts and earned him Best Artist, Best Producer and Best Song of the year at The Thunder Awards in Holland. The GEE Man has recently enjoyed more worldwide success along with band mates Neophyte and Tieum with their collective efforts "Coming At You Strong", "Anxiety", & "Rage With Pride" under the name "Riot Squad". Rob GEE is still pushing solo success globally with his most recent hit "Right Now". GEE, always with his open mind, has enjoyed recent Hardstyle & Rawstyle bangers teaming up with heavy hitters like The Prophet and Adaro. While in the same breath has been rocking the mainstream airwaves collaborating with hardcore giants Noize Suppressor, Mad Dog, & Furyan. Look out later this year, nu metal will meet hardcore in the studio ring when Rob GEE teams up with none other than Shavo Odadjian of System Of A Down. Rob GEE won't be stopped!!!!!! The sound is 100% Rob GEE, which means eclectic, unexpected and completely unique.
