Samaria była góra należącą do Szemera. Słowo Samaria znaczy właśnie - należąca do Szemera. Nic więcej nie wiemy o tym człowieku. Od niego górę kupił król Omri. W 1 Królów 16:24 czytamy: “Potem nabył za dwa talenty srebra od Szemera górę Szomron i obwarował tę górę, i nazwał gród, który zbudował, Samaria według imienia właściciela tej góry Szemera”.Jaką funkcję pełniło to miasto? W Izajasza 7:9 czytamy: “stolicą Efraima jest Samaria, a głową Samarii jest syn Remaliasza”. Efraim był najważniejszym plemieniem północnego królestwa Izrael. Tak więc Samaria była stolicą tego państwa. Historia tego miejsca zaczęła się już wcześniej. Prawdopodobnie właśnie tam mieszkał jeden z sędziów.W Sędziów 10:1 czytamy: “Po Abimelechu wystąpił, aby ratować Izraela, Tola, syn Pui, wnuk Doda, z plemienia Issachara; mieszkał on w Szamir na pogórzu efraimskim”. Jej wysokość to jakieś 90 m.Omri zbudował miasto Samaria. W 2 Królewskiej 6:25 czytamy: “I nastał w Samarii wielki głód, gdy ją oblężono”. Samarii jednak także wtedy nie zdobyto. W 2 Królewskiej 17:6 czytamy: “W dziewiątym roku panowania Ozeasza król asyryjski zdobył Samarię, uprowadził Izraela do Asyrii”. Gdy Żydzi wrócili z niewoli babilońskiej zamieszkali w Judzie i w Galilei. W Jana 4:5 czytamy: “Przybył więc do miasta samarytańskiego, zwanego Sychar”. Jezus gdy przechodził przez Samarię omijał Sebaste. Dlaczego?W Sebaste czyli w odbudowanej przez Heroda Samarii mieszkali nie-Żydzi. W Mateusza 15:24 znajdujemy słowa Jezusa: “A On, odpowiadając, rzekł: Jestem posłany tylko do owiec zaginionych z domu Izraela”. Archeologia to potwierdziła.Na te tereny przybyli Samarytanie i cały region zaczęto nazywać Samarią. Samo miasto zniszczył Aleksander Wielki, a potem hasmonejski król Jan Hirkan. Gdybyście chcieli zwiedzić to miejsce jedźcie do arabskiej wioski Sebastia. Lessons from Judges Chapter 10 In this episode, we dive into Judges Chapter 10, exploring God's selection of leaders to deliver Israel from their disobedience and oppression. The script recaps the tragic story of Abimelech's self-appointment as leader and the consequences of Israel's choice to forsake God. Contrasting Abimelech's reign, we discuss the faithful service of judges Tola and Jair, whose seemingly uneventful years of leadership still offer valuable lessons. Through vivid analogies and historical context, the teaching highlights the importance of repentance, God's endless capacity to forgive, and the dangers of idol worship. The episode concludes with a call to embrace Jesus's sacrifice and a preview of the forthcoming exploration of Jephthah's leadership in the next chapter of Judges. 00:00 Introduction and Recap of Previous Lessons 00:40 The Rise and Fall of Abimelech 04:58 The Call to Repentance and Salvation 10:24 The Story of Tola and Jair 19:13 Israel's Cycle of Rebellion and Idolatry 22:04 God's Perspective on Israel's Choices 23:46 Israel's Distress and Cry for Help 24:21 The Concept of Rock Bottom 25:02 God's Response to Israel's Plea 28:07 The Importance of True Repentance 31:41 The Battle Against the Ammonites 35:08 Peter's Faith and Doubt 39:03 Conclusion and Next Steps

He had 30 sons who rode 30 donkeys and controlled 30 towns in Gilead. After Jair's death, Israel once again turned away from God, worshiping the Baals and foreign gods. Businesses across Clare are reporting mixed economic fortunes this Christmas. While some retailers and hospitality providers in this county are seeing signs of a festive footfall boom, others have noticed a significant drop in their bottom line. Despite the pouring rain, Clare's last minute shopping brigade were out in force, hoping for a Christmas miracle. The late rush is always a welcome surge for business owners, which is particularly being felt in North Clare after a challenging year. One Entrepreneur in Ennistymon believes unfavourable weather conditions during the peak tourist season coupled with rising input costs and inflation has put the strain on trade. Michelle Gunning from Mo Leanna Chroí Ceramics says the support of the community has been paramount in pulling through. Parking has also been flagged as an issue in the town, however the owner of a prominent local café believes a culture shift is needed. Sinéad Garvey from St.Tola's Cheese Press says their enjoying a busy month following a slow start to the Winter and insists parking is readily available in Ennistymon if people change their habits. In Ennis, the public realm works on O'Connell Street have been put on pause since November 29th to facilitate the Christmas shopping period. One Business owner claims he's already seeing a marked increase in footfall as a result. Conor Harkin from Truth Menswear on Upper Parnell Street says while the works proved a major disruption, the trade-off has been worthwhile. A Jewellers in the county town has also experienced a serious resurgence within the last month. Founder of Blackbird on Bank Place, Katie Rogers says the bounce back came as a major but welcome suprise. It's the most wonderful time of the year for shopping in Ireland, with AIB data indicating men spent between five and six million-euro during yesterday lunchtime alone. Owner of Fancy That in Ennistymon Carol McGann says its been a balanced year overall with no major growth, but has a cautionary tale for last minute shoppers to remember.

The Greens are pledging to transform the delivery of homes and wastewater infrastructure in Clare. Minister for State at the Department of Agriculture Senator Pippa Hackett and Deputy Leader Senator Roisín Garvey have launched the party's rural manifesto this lunchtime at St.Tola's Goat Farm in Inagh. The policy promises to introduce affordable housing projects across all towns and villages, the development of 200 bike, car sharing and EV charging hubs and to entice more young people into farming through tax incentives and environmental grants. Speaking at the launch, Minister Hackett has been defending her record on ACRES and telling Clare FM's Daragh Dolan issues with succession planning in the sector are due to failures of their coalition colleagues.

Big Idea: Why family reunions are always weird. In the Beginning: Joseph Genesis 45:16-46:34 I. Every family has issues. 45:16-28 When the news reached Pharaoh's palace, “Joseph's brothers have come,” Pharaoh and his servants were pleased. Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Tell your brothers, ‘Do this: Load your animals and go on back to the land of Canaan. Get your father and your families, and come back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you can eat from the richness of the land.' You are also commanded to tell them, ‘Do this: Take wagons from the land of Egypt for your dependents and your wives and bring your father here. Do not be concerned about your belongings, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.' ” The sons of Israel did this. Joseph gave them wagons as Pharaoh had commanded, and he gave them provisions for the journey. He gave each of the brothers changes of clothes, but he gave Benjamin three hundred pieces of silver and five changes of clothes. He sent his father the following: ten donkeys carrying the best products of Egypt and ten female donkeys carrying grain, food, and provisions for his father on the journey. So Joseph sent his brothers on their way, and as they were leaving, he said to them, “Don't argue on the way.” So they went up from Egypt and came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan. They said, “Joseph is still alive, and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt!” Jacob was stunned, for he did not believe them. But when they told Jacob all that Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to transport him, the spirit of their father Jacob revived. Then Israel said, “Enough! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go to see him before I die.” II. There's no distance too far for family. 46:1-7 Israel set out with all that he had and came to Beer-sheba, and he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. That night God spoke to Israel in a vision: “Jacob, Jacob!” he said. And Jacob replied, “Here I am.” God said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you back. Joseph will close your eyes when you die.” Jacob left Beer-sheba. The sons of Israel took their father Jacob in the wagons Pharaoh had sent to carry him, along with their dependents and their wives. They also took their cattle and possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan. Then Jacob and all his offspring with him came to Egypt. His sons and grandsons, his daughters and granddaughters, indeed all his offspring, he brought with him to Egypt. III. You can't pick your family name. 8-27 These are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt—Jacob and his sons: Jacob's firstborn: Reuben. Reuben's sons: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. Simeon's sons: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman. Levi's sons: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. Judah's sons: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul. Issachar's sons: Tola, Puvah, Jashub, and Shimron. Zebulun's sons: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel. These were Leah's sons born to Jacob in Paddan-aram, as well as his daughter Dinah. The total number of persons: thirty-three. Gad's sons: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli. Asher's sons: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and their sister Serah. Beriah's sons were Heber and Malchiel. These were the sons of Zilpah—whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah—that she bore to Jacob: sixteen persons. The sons of Jacob's wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin. Manasseh and Ephraim were born to Joseph in the land of Egypt. They were born to him by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, a priest at On. Benjamin's sons: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. These were Rachel's sons who were born to Jacob: fourteen persons. Dan's son: Hushim. Naphtali's sons: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem. These were the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel. She bore to Jacob: seven persons. The total number of persons belonging to Jacob—his direct descendants, not including the wives of Jacob's sons—who came to Egypt: sixty-six. And Joseph's sons who were born to him in Egypt: two persons. All those of Jacob's household who came to Egypt: seventy persons. IV. Only one family that lasts forever. 28-34 Now Jacob had sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to prepare for his arrival at Goshen. When they came to the land of Goshen, Joseph hitched the horses to his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel. Joseph presented himself to him, threw his arms around him, and wept for a long time. Then Israel said to Joseph, “I'm ready to die now because I have seen your face and you are still alive!” Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's family, “I will go up and inform Pharaoh, telling him, ‘My brothers and my father's family, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me. The men are shepherds; they also raise livestock. They have brought their flocks and herds and all that they have.' When Pharaoh addresses you and asks, ‘What is your occupation?' you are to say, ‘Your servants, both we and our ancestors, have raised livestock from our youth until now.' Then you will be allowed to settle in the land of Goshen, since all shepherds are detestable to Egyptians.” Next Steps: Believe: I need to be adopted into God's family today. Become: I will become part of a group this week. Be Sent: I will invite someone into my life this week. Group Discussion Questions: When was your last family reunion? What did the shirts look like? "I was going in with the mentality that I could medal even before we left. I just knew my fitness was at a different level. Yes, eighth is great and I'm happy about that, but I don't think my fitness really showed in this marathon. I think I have another level that I'm trying to bridge the gap to. But seeing them do so well, I was definitely thinking of it in the race. Kenneth was second, Grant was third, like I can go out here and medal… I know these guys, I run with these guys, I get my doors blown off by these guys, but I can go medal." My guest for today's episode is Conner Mantz, who recently finished an impressive eighth place at the Paris Olympics Marathon with a time of 2:08:12.On a course that was as unforgiving as it was historic, Conner mixed it up with the best marathoners in the world, tackling the relentless hills and intense heat of Paris. At mile 9, when Tamirat Tola, the eventual Olympic champion, made his first big move up one of the course's steepest hill, Conner was right there and decided to go with him. It was a bold decision and the kind we've come to expect from Conner, who's never been afraid to take risks in a race. Even though Tola's second move eventually separated the field, Conner's courage to hang with the lead pack for so long is a testament to his racing mindset. Conner proved that he's not just one of the top U.S. marathoners, but a true competitor on the world stage. The energy of the Parisian crowds, reflections on the work put in this training block, and the high-five he shared with Clayton right before the toughest part of the course are some of the highlights that he recounts in this episode. Plus, if you listened to our last episode, Clayton Young was bold enough to talk about going after the American record. Conner has similar thoughts! Time Stamps: 4:49 - How Conner evaluated his success in the Olympic marathon. 5:37 - How he trained to prepare for the hilly marathon course. 9:57 - What cross training looked like while injured during his build. 15:42 - On having one of his most consistent builds yet post-injury. 19:28 - How he sized up his competition heading into the race. 29:49 - Watching Kenneth Rooks take silver in the steeplechase. 22:57 - Pre-race traditions. 27:58 - Breaking down his Olympic marathon experience. 31:45 - Mid-race high-five with Clayton Young. 35:23 - Details on the epic marathon course hill. 38:12 - The downhill portion following the epic hill. 44:45 - Reuniting with Clayton after the race + welcoming other finishers in. 47:46 - The support from his friends, family, and team. 52:17 - Setting his sights on the American record.
Tamirat Tola won the men's Olympic Marathon gold today, but it was the marathon course that we thought was the star of the show, as it threw two severe hills at the athletes, creating a dynamic, unpredictable race full of excitement. We explain how Tola conquered that course in remarkable fashion to break the Olympic Record with aggressive hill running. We also look back on the track action, which included relay medals for some athletes who came so close to individual podiums, as well as a double gold and bronze in the women's 10000m, and an impressively fast women's 400m. Finally, we talk breaking, boxing and the IOC's disgrace, and look ahead to the final night of track action from Paris.Join DiscourseIf you're enjoying of Paris Daily podcasts, and generally love sports science, consider a small donation to become a Patron of the site, and get access to our Discourse community, where you can join like-minded fans and sports enthusiasts to keep the conversation going.
