One of the crucial ideas in finance is that markets are efficient – that they fully reflect all available information. If so, what about market bubbles?Over the last year, people have been willing to pay exorbitant amounts for extremely odd assets such as Non-Fungible Tokens, meme stocks etc. Why do they do this? This lecture will explore some investors' systematic behavioural biases, and how these can be used to predict returns. This lecture was recorded by Raghavendra Rau on 10th June 2024 at Barnard's Inn Hall, LondonThe transcript of the lecture is available from the Gresham College website:https://www.gresham.ac.uk/watch-now/market-efficiencyGresham College has offered free public lectures for over 400 years, thanks to the generosity of our supporters. Financial literacy includes understanding NFT's, DeFi, and cryptocurrency. But it's hard to separate education from hype. Harvard Business School's Scott Duke Kominers, a professor in Harvard's Entrepreneurial Management Unit, and a Faculty Affiliate of the Harvard Department of Economics and the Harvard Center of Mathematical Sciences and Applications, joins us alongside Web3 expert Steve Kacizinsky to explain the financial, technological and social significance of NFT's. NFT's, or Non-Fungible Tokens, are a rapidly growing digital asset. Comprehensive financial literacy requires understanding NFT's. While NFT's are emerging opportunity for investment diversification, they are also highly speculative and volatile. NFT's also represent how digital ownership is evolving, and have implications for the economic futures of a myriad of industries. These assets stand at the intersection of art, technology and commerce. This episode provides a deeper understanding of NFT's, taught by a Harvard Business School professor and a Web3 expert. Before Electric Capital, Maria was the CTO and co-founder of a startup Bambify that helped small to medium-sized businesses create more efficient supply chains with manufacturers globally. Prior to that, she worked at Microsoft. In March 2022, the firm announced that it closed $1 billion for a pair of crypto funds – a $400 million vehicle for making equity investments in startups and a $600 million fund intended to invest directly in crypto tokens. Rich Watson is a strong force in Augmented Reality Marketing. He has spoken all over the world about the future of eCommerce and how it will be brought into Web 3.0. Rich has over 8 years of Facebook ad media buying experience, and he is an avid believer in the potential of Non-Fungible Tokens and the metaverse. When he's not working or speaking, Rich enjoys spending time with his wife in the coastal city of Da Nang in the center of Vietnam. Here's what we covered on the episode: What is Augmented Reality? Before stepping into the Web 3.0 world, Rich worked in paid marketing for Facebook, Instagram where he worked with primarily eCommerce clients Augmented Hype is Rich's business that helps online business leverage augmented reality for their marketing One of the biggest things people need to start doing when it comes to Web 3.0 is building a community Rich shares that the difference between virtual reality and augmented reality is that with virtual reality, you're stepping into a virtual environment, but with augmented reality, you're augmenting your immediate surroundings, yourself, your room, etc., with something digital To Rich, the Metaverse is this world with no boundaries, a chance to be anything you want and be able to connect with anyone you want at any time you want – it's a digitally rendered amplified version of the world An example of augmented reality is when sites let you see what something would look like in your actual home before you buy it, like what a specific rug or wall color would look like, so you can make a more informed purchase decision Rich explains how you can use augmented reality for all parts of your sales funnel When it comes to using new technology, look at what's already working within your industry and think about how it can become a more immersive experience A simple example Rich gives is with beauty products; augmented reality allows you to try different products on to see how they'd look on you before purchasing, something you can't necessarily do at a store – this also means consumers might try something they wouldn't have in the store How to Use Augmented Reality in Your Business One case study of Rich's shows how they were able to help a client increase their average order value by 50% because they gave people a chance to try the top 6 – 8 selling lipsticks through augmented reality By allowing people to have the most realistic experience with your products, you can lower your return rate and customer service inquiries Rich explains that the barrier to entry for augmented reality is the lowest it's ever been because there are many ways to do it without having an app - there's social and web augmented reality, for example Web 3.0 is the new internet infrastructure that's coming – the idea is for you to own the data through your communities Augmented reality can set you apart from your competition, and it can help lower the returns that your competitors might have Rich shares a Squid Game example; a creator from Singapore created a Squid Game augmented reality that reached 500 million people organically You can go into different galleries (Lens for Snapchat and Spark for Meta) and scroll around to see different creators and what they've made Augmented Hype started working with agencies where they were their augmented reality specialist and helped achieve specific objectives for different campaigns Shopify did a study that showed using augmented reality to visualize products increased conversion rates by up to 200% How Rich created a Slack Community called Augmented Marketers to help people add this service to their agencies Rich helps people implement augmented reality into their business and works with them for 2 months so they can continuously optimize and change things when needed, which is not something a lot of augmented reality services do Go to the Augmented Hype website to see examples, download freebies, and join their community The biggest thing with augmented reality, Rich says, is making it as clear as possible – keep it simple, especially when starting out Rich says that even implementing the most complex augmented reality into your campaign strategy wouldn't take longer than 2 working weeks When it comes to what's next for Rich's business, he says they'll be focusing on educating and showing people how you can use augmented reality Rich gives an example where Disney+ used augmented reality for a short film called, Remembering where you downloaded the app, and during the movie, your phone would ring, and when you opened it, the movie spilled out into your room Augmented Reality glasses are the future, Rich believes, and within the next 3 – 5 years, he believes they'll replace phones Check out the Augmented Hype Website to learn more, and connect with Rich on Instagram and LinkedIn Links mentioned: Augmented Hype Website Connect with Rich on Instagram Connect with Rich on LinkedIn 7 AR ad strategies for Facebook ads Like what you heard? The Real Estate InvestHER Show with Elizabeth Faircloth and Andresa Guidelli
Technology is taking more relevance in fields that we never thought it would. One of those is real estate, and Leslie Alessandra took the opportunity right away as being the first woman to ever sold a home in the US using NFT technology. Now, this amazing entrepreneur and expert in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency has co-founded and is the CEO of DeFi Unlimited, a cryptocurrency business committed to creating products and software that ease the barrier of entry into the crypto space for businesses and facilitate B2B crypto transactions. She is a Florida native who actively invests in both real estate and cryptocurrency and believes in the benefits of blockchain technology for both industry efficiency and humanitarian causes. Leslie previously worked for the federal government, where she was first exposed to this innovative technology. Seeing the benefits of the crypto industry, she decided to leave her government position and pursue a career in entrepreneurship and philanthropy. Her purpose and passion are to help children and families in need around the globe. She has traveled internationally supporting the abolishment of child sex trafficking and has helped provide medical care to rural areas. Leslie currently spends her time residing between St. Petersburg and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In this episode of The Real Estate InvestHER Show, we're going to learn about her views, her achievements using blockchain technology, and her vision of the future of the Real Estate industry. Quotes· “I think I'm learning now in my older age to start to say no. And really working, diligently, for that work-life balance.” (07:33 - 07:43)· “The real power of NFTs comes in other types of utility, especially when we're talking about industries and actually revolutionizing industries. You can empower an NFT to provide access, to provide membership, they can be used for marketing, they can be used to hold ownership rights.” (11:20 - 11:46)· “Once I started to understand the real power behind blockchain, it was like your mind just starts to expand and, all the light bulbs start going off. (12:41 - 12:53)· “I think the biggest power of blockchain for not only the real estate industry but in so many industries are efficiency and protection against fraud”. (20:04 - 21:13)· “The great thing about NFTs and blockchain […] It's transparency. It's immutable”. (28:26 – 28:37)· “And [to me] that lesson was you hire out the things you're not the strongest at, and you focus on what you are strong at. […] You know, you focus on that and that's kind of like that sausage-making part of any entrepreneurial endeavor (36:18 - 36:35) Connect with Leslie:Website: https://defiunlimitedllc.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/defiunlimitedFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/defiunlimited/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/defiunlimited Resources Mentioned: ● TREI's Strive Membership!● Web3Collab.org (Formerly Crypto Pro Café)● DeFi Unlimited● CryptosRUs● Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Non-Fungible Tokens, or NFTs, have captured the attention of thousands over the past few weeks and months. This technology's use has encompassed various forms of digital art such as the popular depictions of cartoon apes. But, one country has begun looking beyond NFT's use as a digital asset toward using it for the creation of a more centralized and restrictive internet ecosystem.Lawfare fellow in cybersecurity law Alvaro Marañon sat down with Yaya Fanusie, an adjunct senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security, to speak about the China government's vision for the next iteration of the internet. Yaya is an expert on the national security implications of cryptocurrencies and recently has written Lawfare posts analyzing China's NFT and national digital currency initiatives. They broke down an NFT and the other technical acronyms, what the Chinese government's aspirations are with its national blockchain project, and what the strategic risk to nation-states is if China can implement its technological vision.
