What does it take to keep a rock band together for 40 years? According to Dale Ryder, lead singer of Boom Crash Opera, it's understanding hierarchy, staying flexible, and genuine friendship. As the iconic Australian band celebrates four decades in the business with their first new single in 28 years, Dale opens up about his remarkable journey from knowing he wanted to be a singer at just six years old to still fronting one of Australia's most beloved rock acts at age 70.The conversation takes an unexpected turn when Dale reveals why he performs barefoot these days – a serious accident left him with a broken neck, two broken arms, broken ribs, and chronic nerve damage that makes feeling the stage essential. "The only time I don't feel any pain is when I get on stage," he confesses, highlighting the transformative power of performance even after decades in the business.Born in India to an English father who was an opera singer, Dale's musical DNA runs deep. He shares stories about joining Boom Crash Opera in the mid-80s, their admiration for The Models (who they're currently touring with), and the collaborative process behind their new single "Latest Hustle." With his self-deprecating humor intact, Dale jokes that it's "a scandal that we're actually releasing something at the age of 70, after 28 years."Music lovers won't want to miss this candid conversation that proves rock and roll might truly be the fountain of youth. Catch Boom Crash Opera on their extensive Australian tour running from March through August, including a stop at Adelaide's Governor Hindmarsh on April 24th. As Dale puts it: "Gotta make a living... sleep when we're dead."Get out when you can, support local music and I'll see you down the front!!Visit: ThatRadioChick.com.au
I am a lifelong Nashvillian, 74 years old, mother of our daughters, three nurses, and an elementary teacher. I have 13 grandkids and six great-grandkids. FAMILYI grew up in a large Catholic family with six kids in the 1950s. I had a great childhood. My father was a doctor, and my mother was a nurse but a full-time homemaker after getting married. CHILDHOOD I was always involved in the academic side of things, and my mother kept me super busy with after-school and summer activities (I guess to keep me out of trouble because I was a very social person). I had three brothers who teased me constantly about my weight even though I was not that big. I went out for sports, but I was continually cut, so I focused on academics, music lessons, and the creative and literary arts and pretty much excelled at most things I got into. MARRIAGEAfter getting married at 21 and having four children in 9I had picked up about 20 pounds (when I got married, I was probably about 25 pounds overweight). So, I was not overly obese but just never felt comfortable in my clothes. CAREERMy career was in medical publications, nonprofit writing, public relations, and special events. STATS—- 5'7”… 74 years YOUNG… SW: 218CW:150-ish PROTOCOLI used a 20/4 protocol to lose. I opened my window at about 330 every day. I got the last 25 off in five months by “clean fasting” after I had a three-year plateau during which time I was probably fasting 50% of that time, but, again, it was not a “clean fast.” (I had coconut oil or butter & heavy cream & artificial sweeteners in my coffee). NSVsMy medical lab work is in perfect alignment, and I don't take any medication. My body is much stronger, and I feel s0 much more energetic, healthy, clear-minded, and positive. The brain fog I was having in my late 60s, as well as some depression, is completely gone. I went from size 18 jeans to size 10 and from XL/XXL tops to mediums. This is the first time (even as a child) I have been in a “normal” BMI range. I have dozens and dozens of non-scale victories, including not being embarrassed in a bathing suit, having the stamina to walk over 4 miles at a time with no fatigue, having a lot more confidence when interacting with people, and wearing clothes that look cute on me. I have skin tags that have disappeared, joint inflammation that has lessened immensely, clearer skin, and thicker hair. The list is almost endless. I NEVER counted calories, points, or macros. I guess I am in maintenance because this is where my body has been since last May. I weighed the exact weight I was in the eighth grade. I am 20 pounds less than when I graduated high school and 25 pounds less than when I married. Despite my age, I have more energy today than 20 years ago.Our Patreon Supporters Community -Join us!Please consider joining the Fasting Highway Patreon community. Welcome to this week's episode featuring Mike Goddard, entrepreneur, a current World and European triathlon champion in the 75-79 age group sprint distance and an avid fell runner. I invited Mike after he engaged with one of my recent posts about reducing training volume while maintaining performance. He didn't just maintain his fitness. He achieved unprecedented fitness, for him at least, winning his age group both the Euros and the World Championships in the sprint distance. If you're interested and have concerns about how aging may affect your training and racing, this episode will provide encouraging insights and highlight positive aspects to look forward to. In this episode, we'll cover: Holding the fastest known time up and down Mount Kenya, navigating the challenges of his son's paralysis following a climbing accident and how this experience propelled him into the triathlon world. Joys and impacts of aging. Importance of having a coach. The social aspects of training, especially for athletes in individual sports and those involved in clubs. Mike also shares how strength and mobility work have significantly benefited his performances. Why older runners should focus on age graded performances when run performances tend to drop off anyway. Balance between race craft and fitness, including long term planning for older athletes. And finally, he shares a story about taking Alistair and Johnny Brownlee to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in 2013. In 1974, two young industrial designers in the Netherlands started a company making spinning wheels. Beginning in a family member's chicken coop, they built a modern wheel featuring an upright castle-style format, a then-uncommon bobbin-lead drive system, and a drive wheel without spokes. Jan Louët Feisser and Clemens Claessen named their company Louët and began building the now-iconic S10 spinning wheel. The company soon moved out of the chicken coop and brought on other employees. By 1982, they began making looms, from expandable table looms to countermarche and eventually dobby looms. The founders, who loved the design aspect more than management, brought on Theo Vervoorn to handle the daily logistics. Across the Atlantic in Canada, a family of Dutch immigrants had started a farm as part of the “back to the land” movement. The sheep raised on their farm produced wool that needed to be processed, so Trudy van Stralen learned to spin, weave, and dye. She began selling Louët spinning wheels and soon became not only one of the company's largest dealers but also an adviser on the fiber arts market. The van Stralen company founded Louët North America, with David van Stralen joining in 1994 and developing a special focus in equipment mechanics and maintenance. Over 50 years, countless aspects of Louët's business have changed, and their practices have kept up. The modern manufacturing techniques that Louët pioneered in 1974 have continued to evolve, with 3D modeling, computer-guided milling, and contemporary materials finding their place in the company's products alongside the high-quality wood that exemplified even the earliest wheels. Customers seek out answers online and in videos at all hours, and Louët strives to reply to customer questions in 24 hours. From small improvements to existing equipment to new products large (dobby looms) and small (inkle looms and a brand-new ballwinder), the company keeps design as a central focus. Some aspects of the business continue unchanged as the company has passed to a second generation. Theo Vervoorn's son, Paul, joined the company in 2012 and purchased it in 2023. David van Stralen joined Louët's main business as director of operations in 2022, though he can still be found replying to customer support tickets on weekends and tuning up equipment at festivals. As they plan for their next 50 years, Louët's customer support team continues to help half a century's worth of customers, and the design team has a list of products and innovations they're working on. In this spotlight episode, discover what sustains the company and how they approach spinning and weaving. We have been producing high quality handcraft products for 50 years. We take pride in our workmanship, innovative products, and customer service. Reaching an important milestone in any business is a real achievement. It's the culmination of hard work, commitment and the result of providing a quality product or service. Probably both.... And in 2025, today's guests will toast their 40th year in the world of beer. And as we all know, that simply doesn't happen by accident.Since starting out in 1985, Herefordshire-based Wye Valley Brewery has been producing a wealth of excellent cask, keg and small pack beers. They've earned a reputation for consistency and product quality, seeing their beers served in more than 1,200 pubs and bars throughout the West Midlands and South Wales. As a result, they've gone from a humble beginning of producing approximately 10 brewers' barrels a week to an average of 1000 barrels per week, with further growth to come.Rewind back and the brewery's story started nearly 40 years ago. After brewing for years for Guinness, Wye Valley Brewery founder, Peter Amor decided to branch out on his own. He began brewing from the back of a pub in Canon Pyon in Herefordshire but soon moved to the old stable block of The Barrels in Hereford - Wye Valley Brewery's very first pub. After studying at Young's brewery in London, Peter's son, Vernon Amor, joined the brewery to help with the demands of the growing business. And some 17 years later, the business would signal its latest growth by moving into a 9-acre former cider mill in Stoke Lacy. But the journey doesn't stop there - far from it. Ongoing expansion has included the installation of an impressive bottling and canning setup from Bedford-based Enterprise Tondelli, as well as investment in its warehousing and solar PV infrastructure, with a new brewhouse part of the brewery's future, too. While beers such as it's super successful Nightjar, a kegged stout based on an original Wye Valley Brewery cask recipe, have helped put the brewery in front of eager new audiences. In this episode of The Brewers Journal Podcast, we spoke with head of sales and marketing Abbie Gadd and head brewer Gareth Batemen, to discover the secret of the brewery's longevity, the importance of moving with the times and why its 40th year will be the start of a new period of growth and evolution for the much-loved business.

Phantom Electric Ghost Interviews John Brink: 82 Years Young | CEO | ADHD | Body Building | Author ADHD Conversation Biography John Brink was born in Nazi-occupied Holland at the beginning of the Second World War. From the time he could walk, his days often consisted of foraging for food with his brother and sister. His mother was left to raise the three kids alone when their father was drafted into the Dutch Army. They wouldn't know if he was alive until the liberation of their village, by Canadian soldiers, on April 12, 1945. This was the exact moment John determined he would make his life in Canada … the land of his heroes. He was only five years old. Like many others who lived through that time, John has lived his entire life with the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder, resulting from being in a warzone. I am the healthiest I can possibly be now at my age, almost 80. And I love my life. I love feeling so good. I feel like I can do anything I want to. - Linda MiddlesworthYou're not going to believe that today's guest is turning 80 years old…. She is so freakin' full of energy, is incredibly passionate, and isn't afraid to share her truth with anyone and everyone who has her attention. Her name is Linda Middlesworth, and she is alive today only because her neighbor told her about Dr. John McDougall 35 years ago. He saved her life. She had cancer, severe heart disease, was more than 50 lbs. Overweight, and was pre-diabetic, even though she was then teaching over 20 classes a week of aerobics and weight training. Thanks to Dr. McDougall's book, Linda lost all her health issues within a few of months and then went on to become a VeganMentor health coach, a Food for Life Nutrition and Cooking Instructor, an animal rights activist, an event planner and an organizer of Sacramento Vegan Society with 5,190 members. She still teaches aerobics and weight training at the gym to this day and is now on the board of T. Colin Campbell's Center for Nutritional Studies.
