"Strategic planning is creating certainty in an uncertain world." – Tim Fulton Strategic planning is essential for success in any business, yet many companies either overlook or struggle with the process. In this episode, Trace Blackmore welcomes back Tim Fulton, President of Small Business Matters, to explore the fundamentals of strategic planning and how businesses can chart their course for success. Tim shares insights on why strategic planning matters, how to involve the right people, and how to create a plan that actually works. Whether you're a business owner, manager, or part of a team, this episode provides valuable takeaways to help you navigate uncertainty, set clear objectives, and execute effectively. Why Strategic Planning is Critical Strategic planning helps businesses stay focused in an unpredictable world. By analyzing past performance, assessing the present, and setting future goals, companies can adapt to changing markets, industry trends, and emerging technologies like AI. Who Should Be Involved in Strategic Planning? Successful planning requires input from leaders and key employees at different levels. Involving the right people fosters collaboration, avoids blind spots, and ensures that the plan is practical and actionable, rather than created in isolation. The SWOT Analysis: A Tool for Understanding Your Business A SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) helps businesses understand their position. Identifying strengths and weaknesses within the company, along with external opportunities and threats, provides a clearer strategy for growth and risk management. Executing the Plan & Measuring Success A strategic plan is only effective if it's executed properly. Setting SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) ensures clarity, while quarterly reviews and color-coded tracking (Green, Yellow, Red) help teams monitor progress. Methods like the 12-Week Year and OKRs (Objectives & Key Results) keep businesses on track and accountable. Why Having a Third-Party Facilitator Can Make a Difference An outside facilitator brings an objective perspective, helping businesses stay focused and engaged during planning. Leaders who try to both facilitate and participate often struggle to balance these roles. Involving an expert improves discussions and strengthens team buy-in. Common Mistakes in Strategic Planning & How to Avoid Them Many businesses fail in strategic planning due to poor communication, lack of follow-through, and ignoring potential risks. A strong plan must be actively maintained throughout the year to ensure long-term success. Tim Fulton joined Trace Blackmore to deliver essential insights into strategic planning, emphasizing clarity, involvement, accountability, and the power of facilitation. This episode challenges listeners to create meaningful strategies, fostering organizational resilience and success in any environment. In this episode of The Wealth Whisperer, Hazel delves into the concept of SWOT analysis—an acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Drawing from personal experiences in property coaching and her own financial journey, she emphasizes the importance of applying SWOT analysis not just in business contexts but also in our personal lives. KEY TAKEAWAYS Understanding SWOT Analysis: SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. It is a valuable tool not only for businesses but also for personal development and life planning. Personal Application: Conducting a SWOT analysis on your own life can provide insights into your current situation, helping you identify areas for improvement and leverage your strengths and opportunities. Identifying Strengths and Weaknesses: Recognizing your strengths allows you to capitalize on them, while acknowledging weaknesses helps you find ways to mitigate risks or outsource tasks that you do not enjoy or excel at. Opportunities and Threats: Being aware of opportunities can guide you toward growth and financial freedom, while understanding potential threats, such as market changes or personal responsibilities, can help you make informed decisions. Actionable Insights: After completing a SWOT analysis, it’s important to determine your number one action or learning. This could involve outsourcing tasks you dislike or exploring new financial strategies to enhance your sense of freedom and efficiency in life. BEST MOMENTS"The S stands for strengths. The W stands for weaknesses. The O for opportunities and the T for threats." "When you can see your situation from different perspectives, it can actually help you to improve certain areas of your life." "It's always good to know and to see where you can make those changes to affect even more of that sense of freedom." "I can also sometimes get distracted when I'm in the middle of a task. So I need to keep myself on track sometimes." She and her husband built a successful, multi-million-pound property business, next to their own careers, but soon realised that true freedom doesn’t JUST come from being financially independent… Having meant so much to her family, it has been her passion ever since, to inspire, educate and empower others on their journeys towards this 'Holy Grail'. During one particular property mentoring session back in 2009, she had a powerful recognition of exactly how to facilitate this. Nicknamed now, The Wealth Whisperer, she has a unique way of getting to the crux of what is needed to help fulfil this quest. CONTACT METHODS WebsiteInstagram
Welcome to another episode of Third Thursday, the podcast designed to help you reflect, reset, and supercharge your monthly goals!
This week, Darren shares his talk from the 2024 Global CXM 360° Virtual Conference at Michigan State University, focusing on the benefits and potential impact available through leveraging a SWOT analysis for UX efforts.
After a long break (over 1 month), welcome, dear listeners! It's been a while as I had many obligations (teaching, research, administration, application for third money financing, holidays, baby, etc.). But I hope to continue starting from now! In this #episode, I continue talking about the #SWOT a#nalysis. This time, I talk about the #externalvalidity of your SWOT-based #strategy. Can you find #evidence that your ideas would work? Can you find similar situations or markets, where a similar strategy worked? Do you know people who succeeded in having a similar type of #capabilities / #competencies? If yes, it is a good sign for your strategy! If not: you are either genies or you made a mistake. The latter is, unfortunately, more probable. Good luck and enjoy! Best Eugene (Yevgen)

AI is popping up everywhere — when we open a PDF, use an AI scribe, or look something up with Chat GPT. We all interface with AI daily and may not even realize it. This can become very complex and somewhat mysterious. How can we use AI in a sleep medicine practice? Is it trustworthy? Will we all be replaced by AI someday? The AASM has an AI committee tasked with these questions. In this episode, we talk with committee members Dr. Margarita Oks and Matt Anastasi about a SWOT analysis on the use of AI-enabled technology in sleep medicine.
From white water rafting to taking a trip to the grocery store, there's always some level of practical analysis and mapping that can, and probably should, be performed. Doing so helps us make more informed decisions, capitalize on strengths, address weaknesses, seize opportunities, and mitigate threats to enhance overall well-being and productivity. On today's episode, we perform a SWOT Analysis of the personal finances of emergency physicians to really evaluate all of the ways EPs can find success (and failures) within their working career.

When I began attending management meetings, I was hearing my fellow hospital executives talk about doing a “Swat” Analysis. I figured the term was borrowed from the concept of a Swat Team, since Swat Teams are police tactical units trained, equipped, and deployed to resolve "high-risk situations" quickly. Later I came to understand that a SWOT Analysis was called that because it is the acronym for a study undertaken by an organization to identify its internal Strengths and Weaknesses, as well as its external Opportunities and Threats. Ideally, a SWOT Analysis is performed by a team, in which each participant brings their unique perspectives and backgrounds to produce a comprehensive list of the SWOT components that can be used to maximize the odds of success when developing a new service or product. In this podcast episode, John posts a recording of a lecture he gave in which he described his experiences with participating in and running SWOT Analyses from 2 years ago. In it, he also describes how to translate the findings of an Analysis into a series of goals in which a strength or opportunity is used to overcome a threat or weakness.
