Naukowcy eksperymentują z różnymi półproduktami: liśćmi palmowymi, awokado, trzciną cukrową, a nawet syropem klonowym. Kluczowe, by półprodukt był pełen cukru. I nad tym pracuje m. in. prof. Human rights activists in Nigeria are condemning police tactics used to disperse protesters who had gathered to honor those killed during a 2020 demonstration against police brutality. Witnesses say police beat and fired tear gas at protesters on Sunday as they tried to gather at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos, site of the killings four years ago. Timothy Obiezu reports from Abuja
When Rico Swavey - #BBNaija contestant and singer - died in a motor accident in October 2022, the nation was in shock. He was well loved. His mother, Halima Hassan watched him die in her own arms in a Lekki hospital - asking the doctors to leave her with his corpse as she begged him to come back to her. Months after, as friends and family watched her walk the streets aimlessly, unable to cope with the loss of her son, she had to check into a mental facility. He was the second son of hers to die while she was alive. In this exclusive interview, on the second anniversary of Rico's passions, she joins me to talk about the premonition she had of his death, his last days and his last moments - and how behind the scenes, her son struggled to get his colleagues to support his music. She also talks about how she survived the loss and found her way back to mental and emotional recovery. Then, she shares with me Rico's unfinished business - and the solemn promise she made to him as she cradled him in her arms for the last time. This episode will move you. Exclusive Patron-only Content Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Zwroty omawiane w odcinku: 03:57 - Over the moon 04:07 - On cloud nine 04:30 - Feet and fine 05:40 - Never better 08:33 - Ready to take on the day 11:01 - Glad you asked 12:26 - Glad you brought it up 14:44 - Take great pride in 14:53 - Content at 15:46 - Overjoyed over 15:48 - In high spirits 17:48 - Vast 17:52 - Ample 17:54 - Wide-ranging 17:56 - Long-standing 19:42 - Strong point 19: 50 - Mark 19:54 - Forte 19:57 - Great asset 20:47 - Shortcoming 20:49 - Weak point 20:51 - Pain point 22:40 - Cream of the crop 23:19 - Leading light 23:12 - Well-suited 23:14 - A good fit 24:30 - Drawn to this job 26:25 - Taxing 26:27 - Exacting 26:28 - Testing 26:30 - Stretching

In fact, BRI financing last year for projects in Africa plunged more than 50% to just $7.5 billion. But that doesn't mean Chinese companies still aren't building big things in Africa.Stella Hong Zhang, a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School's Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation joins Eric & Cobus to discuss her new research on the Port of Lekki in Nigeria and why this venture may hold some important clues about the future of Chinese development financing in Africa and around the world.JOIN THE DISCUSSION:Twitter: @ChinaGSProject| @stadenesque | @eric_olander | @stellahongzhangFacebook: www.facebook.com/ChinaAfricaProjectFOLLOW CAP IN FRENCH AND ARABIC:Français: www.projetafriquechine.com | @AfrikChineعربي: www.akhbaralsin-africia.com | @AkhbarAlSinAfrSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

With a population of at least 20 million residents and with close to no proper city planning, Lagos is often plagued with intense traffic jams and locals often turn to commercial motorbike taxis, known locally as okada, or its 2-wheeled equivalent, keke, to get around quickly. But now due to what Lagos authorities are calling safety concerns, Nigeria's largest city has yet again banned the okadas and kekes. This latest move to ban okadas came after the lynching of a man by suspected riders in the upmarket Lekki neighbourhood. The incident took place last month and sparked outrage. While the ban has been welcomed by some who agree with the Lagos authorities that the riders drive dangerously, others say okadas offer faster and often cheaper means of transportation around the city. So in a heavily populated city like this, will Lagos manage without its okadas? Alan Kasujja speaks to the BBC's Olivia Ndubuisi who lives and works in Lagos about what's it like living in the city and how this ban will affect locals.
We’re excited to launch Frontlines of Freedom, RDI’s newest podcast, hosted by Pastor Evan Mawarire, our Director of Education.Pastor Evan Mawarire is a Zimbabwean democracy activist who led the This Flag protest movement, mobilizing millions and ultimately contributing to the fall of Robert Mugabe’s regime. Mawarire survived imprisonment and torture at the hands of the dictatorship, and was forced to flee Zimbabwe. Now located in the US, Mawarire will bring on a new guest each week to talk about their experiences leading a struggle for freedom against an autocratic government. Through guests’ real-life encounters, the conversations accentuate themes of hope, courage, resilience, strength, and the resolve of everyday people who believe that they have the power to overcome oppression. It is a first-of-its-kind show hosted by a political dissident and welcoming on other political dissidents as guests. For this first episode, Mawarire speaks with Nigerian musician and activist Catherine Udeh, also known as DJ Switch. DJ Switch was involved in the End SARS protest movement, a campaign to have the Nigerian government dissolve the Special Anti-Robbery Squad which is notorious for its brutality and disregard for the law. During a protest in October of 2020, Nigerian soldiers opened fire on protesters by the Lekki toll gate in Lagos, killing more than a dozen people. Rather than flee, DJ Switch live streamed the aftermath of the shooting, providing critical evidence of the government’s involvement as it denied culpability. Afterward, she was targeted by the government and threatened for whistleblowing. In their conversation, Mawarire and DJ Switch discuss the value of building and living in a free society and the responsibility we each have to protect it. This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit renewdemocracy.substack.com
