For almost 15 years now, he has been delivering powerful, catchy, deep DJ sets that blend the Afro-Latin World Music, House and Hip Hop as well as their roots, transporting us into a world where electronic sounds is mixed with modern and organic dance rhythms ... Subvision, a deep house duo consisting of Steven Rodriguez and Anthony Carlos, was formed in 2012. Growing up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, not many people shared Steven and Anthony's love for underground house music. It was at a young age that Steven and Anthony found inspiration from the early pioneers - Kerri Chandler, Masters At Work, and Todd Terry. In their early teens, they started DJing as Stefano Rich and Stro respectively. With their shared passion for digging for records and DJing, they soon decided to collaborate and combine their sound. Friend-turned-mentor, Alix Alvarez, a prominent DJ from New York who was then living in L.A., helped Subvision take their production and style to the next level. For the last three years, Subvision has been in the studio working on production and playing gigs at In:volve parties, Avalon, Focus, Exchange, Spirit House, Sweet LA, Couture, Kontact and The Well to name a few. With new mixes, edits, and guest sets in the works and representation from NYC management company, Wright Way Management, 2015 will be one of the best years yet for this passionate house duo. (As published in the Manila Standard Today’s June 12th edition)     London-based DJ and producer Mr. Nugget is on his Asian Tour and is hitting Manila venues throughout the week.  On Tuesday night June 8th, he performed at Café Mondial in Pasig at an event titled “A Common Future” organized by Play Tuesdays’ Tollo Bote.  “Last night was fantastic, such a great vibe, and to get everyone dancing can be a big task, especially to music they may not be used to,” says Mr. Nugget about his Café Mondial gig, “but I managed to do it, very pleased.” On Friday night June 11th, he guests at MOVE, part of M Café’s M Sessions.  And on Saturday night June 12th, Mr. Nugget headlines at MUSIC & WINE at Martinis in the Mandarin Oriental playing soulful deep house music to a knowledgeable audience.  “House music is really big in London now, and I’m bringing with me this sound to Manila,” he says with a confident smirk. Mr. Nugget is expected to drop his latest hot release “A Little Fire” featuring vocalist Natasha Watts (now out on Barcoda Records) and “Free” featuring Brooke Bailey, a track also remixed by DeepCitySoul that went on to become one of the soulful house gems of 2009, getting played across the globe, and registered in countless DJ's top ten on online house music megastore Traxsource. From warming up sets for the likes of Jojo Flores and Alix Alvarez, Mr. Nugget has gone on to forming his own live band, record label and promotion under the Hot Yoga brand. With an undeniable passion for house music, he has taken inspiration from the likes of MAW, Blaze, Reel People, Osunlade and Joey Negro, coining a sound that’s distinctive and filled with creativity. With his profound DJ sets that take you on a musical journey of unprecedented mixing ability, encapsulating House, Funk, Disco and Broken beat, “Nug” as his friends call him ignites dance floors across the UK and abroad on a regular basis. Matt made his DJ debut at Driver Bar warming up the crowd with a special two hour playlist of soul, funk, broken beats, deep house, and general groove-bound chunky stuff.Occasionally Matt challenges me to mix some of his tunes, which is never easy given the mix of genres and varying range of BPMs. My Bank Holiday mission lay in blending his playlist from 19 April, and I’m pleased to say that it’s turned out pretty well. Great summer iPod food!Even though it made things more difficult, I stayed pretty true to M’s original running order. I cheated in a couple of places with cuts and simpler segues - BPM geeks won’t blame me given that things vary between 92 and 133. Whatever, there are some great tracks on here and no doubt I’ll be playing some of these smoother tunes as part of my Glasto sets next month.Jon Cutler’s Groove Me and MJ Cole’s remix of Jill Scott are long-term favourites of ours, but I also like some of Matt’s phatter futureboogie-style selects: Fat John, Rhianna, Sia, Detroit Experiment all deserve a little extra volume. Even Osunlade’s Phil Collins re-rub works.I’m not sure about the Vivian Green / Alix Alarvez section. In fact I admit to cutting the Alvarez track to a single verse and chorus because I find it far too bland. It appears I just have no soul. :-)Something different for the podcast.
