A principios de década la música de baile dominaba gran parte de la escena y pronto su influencia se notó en muchos artistas procedentes del Pop, del indie e incluso del Rock. En este podcast podréis escuchar algunos ejemplos. 01 - Beats International - Dub Be Good To Me: el ex bajista de The Housemartins (Norman Cook) creó en el 89 este colectivo, formado por una vocalista, un rapero y un teclista. Este fue su gran éxito, un cover de una canción de SOS Band y el cual contaba con un sampler de la línea de bajo de la canción de Los Clash “Guns of Brixton”. Llego al número 1 en el Reino Unido en 1990. 02 - Ace of Base - The Sign (Long Version): Luego del gran suceso mundial que fue “All That She Wants”, en 1993 publican esta canción como single, logrando el número uno en US y Europa. 03 - Soho - Hippychick: El dúo de las hermanas Cuff lograron un solo éxito mundial, y fue este Hippychick en 1990, el cual contenía un sampler de la guitarra de Johnny Marr en la canción de The smiths “How Soon is Now” 04 - Stereo MC's – Connected: Procedentes de la escena del Hip-Hop británico, en 1992 lanzaron todo un revienta pistas como es “Connected”. Hasta mediados de los 2000 siguieron publicando material pero nunca repitieron el éxito, 05 - Lil Louis & The World - Nyce & Slo (Tony Humphries wildlife mix): DJ y productor de Chicago. Famoso por publicar en 1989 “French Kiss”, clásico del House. En 1990 lanza como single “Nyce & Slo” del cual se realizaron decenas de remezclas, la que aquí podéis escuchar fúe publicada originalmente en 12 pulgadas. 06 - Soul II Soul - Get a Life: Luego del gran suceso que fue el disco debut. El combo de Jazzie B lanza su segundo álbum “Volume II (1990 a new decade)”. Del cual se extrae este single. 07 - Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart: El trio británico debutan en mayo de 1990 con el cover de Neil Young “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” convirtiéndose en su single más exitoso hasta la actualidad. Como dato curioso, su vocalista Sarah Cracknell se incorpora al grupo un año más tarde. Por lo que esta canción es interpretada por Moira Lambert. 08 - Banderas - This Is Your Life (Remix by Massimino & Fabio B): Procedentes de The Communards, donde ejercían de coristas, publican su único álbum hasta la fecha “Rape” en 1991. Esta canción fue su primer single y el único que sonó en las radios. 09 - Mantronix feat. Wondress - Got to Have Your Love: Grupo de Hip Hop formado a mediados de los 80s, lograron con esta canción gran éxito en todas las pistas de baile del mundo entre 1989 y 1990. 10 - King Bee - Back By Dope Demand (Funky Bass Mix): Grupo de Hip Hop holandés, tuvieron varios singles de éxito a principios de década. 11 - Adventures of Stevie V - Dirty Cash (Money Talks) (Sold Out Mix 7' Edit): Proyecto británico de Hip-House, famosos por esta canción que sono entre 1989 y 1990. 12 - Primal Scream - Don't Fight It, Feel It (7' edit): Procedentes del Indie Britanico, en 1990 publican su opera prima “Screamadelica”, una fusión de Rock, Psicodelia, House y Balearic Beat. Este fúe su cuarto single. 13 - Stereo MC's - Step It Up: Segundo single de éxito, luego de Connected. Publicado en 1992. 14 - Beats International - For Spacious Lies (12' Version): Originalmente fue piublicado en 1989 por Norman Cook como solista, en 1990 se vuelve a lanzar bajo el nombre de Beats International. 15 - Happy Mondays - Step On (Twisting My Melon mix): Procedentes de la escena de Madchester, en 1990 publican su exitoso álbum “Pills 'N' Thrills And Bellyaches” del que se extrae esta canción como single. 16 - EMF - Unbelievable (Single Version): grupo británico formado en 1989, publican su mega éxito mundial en 1990. Nunca más volvieron a lograr tal asaña.

Qui sont ces deux types qui samplent Barry White, les Bar Kays, Billy Joel et qui dans la chanson ‘Teachers' citent Dr Dre et George Clinton à côté de Paul Johnson ou Lil Louis ? Eux qui produisent sur le même genre de machines n'en arrivent pas du tout au même résultat. Mais alors à quel moment leurs chemins divergent ? Cette question là, Mehdi commence à se la poser à la fin des années 90, et quand il réalise que c'est notamment une question de tempo il propose à Manu Key de produire des instru qui ne vont plus à 96 bpm mais qui montent à 120 battements par minutes. Mais il y a plus de 20 ans, en France, ce n'est pas le genre de truc qui se faisait. Alors Mehdi commence à composer dans son coin des morceaux instrumentaux, ultra filtrés, pour le plaisir de la nouveauté et parce qu'il a envie de les faire écouter aux DJ qu'il fréquente. Zdar, Bangalter, Boombass les trouvent super. Mais ils ne sont pas les seuls : quand Mokobé et Rim'k du 113 les découvrent, ils veulent rapper dessus, parce qu'ils aiment cette manière très digitale de découper les samples. Pour leur premier album, ils veulent sortir un disque de rap qui surprend et ce sera le cas avec Les Princes de La Ville. Quand on disait à DJ Mehdi qu'il avait eu cette idée géniale de mélanger le rap et les sonorités électro, il tenait à préciser que ce n'était pas de son fait, mais de celui du 113. C'est comme ça qu'est né l'album des Princes de la Ville, qu'on peut écouter comme une sorte de testament laissé par DJ Mehdi au rap français. Quand le disque du 113 sort, et que le groupe déboule aux victoires de la musique en peugeot 504 break chargé, DJ Mehdi est évidemment heureux de partager ce succès avec ses amis d'enfance. Mais il a déjà un pied ailleurs, il aime traîner aux soirées Respect au Queen, il rêve sincèrement de jouer à Ibiza et devant un public de fêtards. C'est ce chemin qu'il a parcouru qui va causer la fin d'Ideal J ; il n'y a pas eu de fâcherie, il y a simplement eu un fossé qui n'a cessé de se creuser avec le temps. Au bout d'un moment, quand des rappeurs lui demandaient des instrus, il leur présentait des morceaux rapides, syncopés, filtrés. Le genre de trucs qu'il avait envie de produire à l'aube de l'an 2000, mais qu'aucun rappeur français de l'époque n'avait vraiment envie d'assumer. C'est comme ça que les choses arrivent et que les pages se tournent. Après ça, la seconde vie de DJ Mehdi a commencé, et on en parlera dans la suite de cette nova story. SOULDYNAMIC(Naples,ITALY) Inspired by the deep passion for true underground music Luca and Stefano met in a records shop in the early 2000s to dj and produce. After a few years working behind the scenes studying music and listening to their inspirational artists, in 2007 they founded their own project Souldynamic, the fusion of the true love for soul music and the dynamic sound of the the underground beats of our days. In the latest years they worked for and remixed, Louie Vega, Melba Moore, Dennis Ferrer, Josh Milan and plenty others. Since then they have travelled all over Europe and part of the world, leaving their small home town in the heart of Italy to collaborate with some of the most influential heads in the house music scene, sharing the dj booth with some of the coolest artists in the House Music scene. Luca & Stefano have held residency at Southport Weekender’s open air festival SuncéBeat in Croatia since 2010 which then cemented their place at Southport Weekender itself playing at the lastest events. Due to the high demand for their music they embarked on a magical United Kingdom journey playing regularly in one of the most influential cities on the underground music scene, London! In their early careers they also appeared as guest djs in some of the finest clubs in Europe such as Basic (Naples), Sound Department (Taranto IT), Room 26 (Rome), EGG (London), Kee Club (Hong Kong), Cavo Paradiso (Mykonos), Drop (Hong Kong), Ce la Vi (Singapore), Urban Klub (Italy), Supperclub (Amsterdam), Duel:Beat (Naples), Bault (Amsterdam), Warehouse (Birmingham) just to name a few. Souldynamic’s single “Equatoriale” have had a great response in clubland after being played by the Legendary Chicago based dj Lil Louis at “Concrete” in Paris, subsequently a video was posted which has received over 2.5 millions views online, track is released on Tribe Records (UK) and reached the #1 in the download chart. The Italian guys performed for Boiler Room in Naples in July 2016 and to enter in their new decade of career the dynamic duo launched their own records label Excedo. In 2008 I started a series of radio shows with fellow Freak and host, Jonny Rock. The original format was based around vinyl. Digital started to creep in, then CD's, then YouTube rips, and so on. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience.
