This episode features a presentation based on my recent article, “James Angleton, Mossad, the Syndicate, and the CIA's 'Cuban Business'.” About a year ago I discovered a page in James Angleton's 1975 Church Committee testimony that the CIA tried to hide by deleting in subsequent releases. The 86ed page—which happened to be page 86—shows that CIA counterintelligence chief James Angleton did not tell CIA director John McCone that, in order to bypass the entire CIA, Angleton was using a Mossad officer as an operational agent for anti-Castro operations in Cuba. The outcome was that there was very little paper trail at the Agency when it came to the details of Angleton's mobbed-up “Cuban business”—especially the assassination apparatus which many JFK assassination researchers believe was later redirected at President Kennedy. In this fascinating and fun episode, Aaron Good comes on the show to discuss his book American Exception: Empire and the Deep State. This is a great conversation which focuses on Aaron's conceptualizing of exceptionism and how the American Empire works. This topic is critical for us, as the concept of "the Deep State" has been distorted by the right-wing, and obscures the workings of the actual Deep State here within the belly of the beast. Aaron Good has a PhD in Political Science from Temple University. His dissertation, “American Exception: Hegemony and the Tripartite State,” examined the state, elite criminality, and US hegemony. His book American Exception: Empire and the Deep State is available from Skyhorse Publishers, and he has a website and podcast of the same name which can be found at https://americanexception.com/. The United States is an empire, even if its citizens don't all realize it. That is the conclusion from historian and political scientist Aaron Good, who joins Alan MacLeod on this week's edition of “MintCast.” Today, Good walks us through the history of how the United States came to dominate the world and the organizations it uses – especially the CIA and NATO – in order to enforce its control over the planet. He notes that as Europe and Asia were destroying themselves in conflict, the U.S. gave the powerful business think tank, the Council on Foreign Relations, the task of planning America's entry into World War II.Enter the war, win it, and establish dominion over global capitalism. They are going to essentially take control of Western imperialism. It's not stated that way, but that's what ends up being the consensus of people at the top of the U.S. And that consensus of the U.S. as the global hegemon of capitalism worldwide is the story of our time.”In this, the U.S. has been very effective dominating the planet for the past 75 years, although Good does later note that China's growing role is loosening the American grip on the world. Good describes the U.S. as a “paper tiger,” explaining that:In a sense, the U.S. is musclebound to the military, meaning that we may have all these bases and all these billions. But there are two things that the U.S. does not have the ability to do. One is actually using its nuclear arsenal because it would kill everybody. It is a non-starter.”“The other…is fielding a military. When they talk about the U.S. potentially entering a war in Ukraine. Good luck with that!... Who in the world is going to fight in some World War One-style battle?! In Iraq, the U.S. lost fewer than 10,000, and that was very unpopular. By some estimates, 400,000 have died in Ukraine. How could you possibly expect Americans or Europeans to want to die in that way?”Today, Good and MacLeod also chat about the power and purpose of the CIA, how the United States laid the groundwork for Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and the use and misuse of the term “the deep state.”Aaron Good is a historian and former political organizer. His book, “American Exception: Empire and the Deep State,” was published in 2022. If Macro N Cheese wasn't committed to spreading MMT to the activist community, we might have been a history podcast. Nothing excites Steve Grumbine as much as listening to 50 hours of lectures on the French Revolution or the Black Plague. This week's guest, Aaron Good, checks a lot of our boxes. What he brings to the table is history with a solid class analysis.Aaron is the author of American Exception: Empire and the Deep State. American exception should not be confused with American exceptionalism; think instead of the concept of laws applying to everyone EXCEPT one nation or one elite group.During World War II, the US oligarchy saw the opportunity to replace the western European colonial powers with a new empire. They planned and created institutions like the World Bank, the IMF, the CIA — all designed to launch and support this new era of US domination of global capitalism. Imperialism required its own strategy:“To do all of this, they need to have the capitalist world all marching to America's beat. And so the Cold War is more or less ginned up and anti-communism becomes the principle around which the US empire is organized. So it's an empire, but it's not an empire that says ‘we are an empire and we're going out to rule the world.'Instead, it is packaged as a defensive response to a terrible threat. And so communism is the perfect foil because you can basically castigate any left-wing idea that you don't like as being part of this global communist plot, whether domestically or around the world. And they use this to legitimate, really, an attack on the whole world and also on the US population.”Aaron and Steve go on to discuss more of the history of US hegemony, elite criminality, and anti-democratic forces. They look at ruling class manipulation of institutions like academia, politics, and media. They critique Scandinavia as an example of democratic socialism (or social democracy?) with capitalist rule and explore the complicated legacy of Franklin D. Roosevelt.Aaron Good holds a doctorate in political science from Temple University. He is the author of American Exception: Empire and the Deep State, and host of the American Exception podcast. Mickey opens this week's program in conversation with Aaron Good; they examine the post-WWII U.S. rise to global dominance, and how that underlies many of our current events, notably the Russia-Ukraine-NATO conflict. In the second half of the show, Eleanor Goldfield speaks with Chris Garaffa about the prospects for stronger net-neutrality protections in the months ahead, as well as the broader issue of how to "democratize the internet." Aaron Good is the author of "American Exception: Empire and the Deep State," a new book from Skyhorse Publishing. He also hosts a podcast titled "American Exception." He holds a Ph.D from Temple University. In the tradition of Peter Dale Scott, Aaron's writing emphasizes the role of a 'deep state' (a powerful, secretive, unelected governing force) in history. Chris Garaffa is co-host of the Covert Action Bulletin podcast, and is a frequent radio guest on issues of technology and surveillance. A history of how the US military-industrial complex was created, with its deep links to Wall Street, following the National Security Council's top secret memo NSC 68: a blueprint for the first cold war. First cold war architect George Kennan wrote in 1987: "Were the Soviet Union to sink tomorrow under the waters of the ocean, the American military-industrial complex would have to go on, substantially unchanged, until some other adversary could be invented. Recently G&R co-host and award-winning historian Bob Buzzanco debated Oliver Stone's writer on his documentary "JFK Revisited," James DiEugenio, about Stone's theory that the "deep state" had JFK killed because he was going to withdraw from Vietnam, thaw relations with Castro, and end the Cold War. They discussed Kennedy's actual policies as president, his aggressive actions in Vietnam and Cuba, his continued imperial approach to Latin America, his tough approach to the Soviet Union. They also discussed the minutae of Oswald and the Warren Report, the "scenery" and "parlor games," in Stone's own words, of the JFK assassination. In this debate, Buzzanco makes the important points that people need to look at the evidence, the documents and archives of what Kennedy actually did, rather than anecdotes and stories told long after the fact. The Left needs to organize and engage in political action, not become obsessed with alleged heroes killed long ago. It's also worth noting that those often evoking the deep state conspiracy mostly rely on deep state agencies to provide them with their "smoking gun." At the top of the show: Mindia Gavasheli, Bureau Chief, Washington DC for Sputnik Radio stops by to discuss the crisis in the Ukraine and the fallout from Biden's call to Ukraine's Zelensky. It seems CNN and the Ukrainian governments spectacularly failed to get their story straight. CNN's reporting on what some Ukrainian sources said about Biden's call has earned a rebuke from the White House - and caused some high placed reporters to back away while a couple of others are standing by their source. Aaron Good: political scientist and host of the American Exception podcast on Patreon. His doctoral dissertation is going to published by Skyhorse in April under the title 'American Exception: Empire and the Deep State' joins John and Michelle to discuss Xiomara Castro inauguration yesterday in front of a cheering crowd that included Vice President Kamala Harris. She pledged closer US-Honduran ties and assistance in combating corruption and undocumented migration. Gregg Mosson: state and federal court litigator in private practice in Maryland, at Mosson Law, LLC, and author of “Employee Rights in Maryland: A Concise Guide” joins the Misfits during the second hour to discuss the SCOTUS horserace. Joe Biden is going to get a chance to nominate a justice to the Supreme Court, and he has pledged to nominate a black woman to the position. Justice Kamala Harris? For the last segment Dan Kovalik: author, human rights and labor lawyer. His most recent book is “No More War: How the West Violates International Law by Using ‘Humanitarian' Intervention to Advance Economic and Strategic Interests” talks about Vice President Harris in Honduras and what's the state of US-Honduran relations right now?Its Friday time for News of the Weird. The Misfits sign off with a delicious story about a hairy tongue and Super Bowl performers asked to dance for no dollars. Till next time, happy weekend!

Michelle opens with the Supreme Court yesterday blocked the Biden administration's vaccine or testing mandate for large employers. Michelle mentions an NPR's interview with a business owner who was relieved that the mandate was struck down, not because he didn't believe in vaccines, but because so many businesses are still in chaos over all the other pandemic fallout. John shares with listeners an article from Yahoo News about the CIA training Ukrainian paramilitary. Then, Aaron Good, political scientist and host of the American Exception podcast on Patreon. His doctoral dissertation is going to published by Skyhorse in April under the title 'American Exception: Empire and the Deep State' joins the Misfits. Aaron explains Newsom's decision not to release Sirhan Sirhan, alleged assassin of Robert Kennedy Jr. Good points out that the autopsy, witness accounts and a second shooter clears Sirhan yet Establishment Democrats have long been opposed to Sirhan's release. Next, John and Michelle are joined by Eugene Craig, Republican strategist and former vice-chair of the Maryland Republican Party they delve into likely contenders for the 2022 midterms and 2024 run for president. No Trump 2.0 in 2024 Trump would prefer a role such as, Speaker of the House instead. No long campaign because you do not need to be a member of congress to be Speaker. Not likely because some Republicans will be opposed and certainly all Democrats.Mitch McConnell remains important to Republicans as an effective leader while Kevin McCarthy is a shell of leadership abilities. Former governor of Maryland Larry Hogan, a moderate Republican, not likely to run for president. Hogan does not want to risk a loosing campaign running for POTUS yet he's likely to run for Senate. Steve Grumbine, Founder and CEO of the nonprofits Real Progressives and Real Progress in Action. He's host of the podcast Macro n Cheese. He's also a leading activist and evangelist for Modern Monetary Theory. Talks with the Misfits about what's behind the story of spiking inflection. The severity of the surge will wane once supply chains catch up. Opportunistic monopolies are exploiting the pandemic and raising prices. Last, the misfits look ahead to all that Prince Andrew, formally known as the Duke of York, has to look forward to.
Mickey presents a discussion between political scientist Aaron Good and author David Talbot on the subject of the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy. This conversation is excerpted from a recent interview Aaron Good did for his new podcast series, "American Exception." Talbot explains why “Bobby was the original conspiracy theorist” about the 1963 assassination while discussing his book, Brothers: The Hidden History of the Kennedy Years. Notes: David Talbot founded Salon.com, and is the author of several books, including the bestselling Brothers, the story of John and Robert Kennedy, and The Devil's Chessboard: Allen Dulles, the CIA, and the Rise of America's Secret Government. His work can be seen online at The David Talbot Show. Aaron Good holds a doctorate in political science from Temple University, and is the author ofAmerican Exception: Empire and the Deep State, to be released this spring by Skyhorse Publishing. Good is also the creator of the American Exception podcast.
Aaron Good, political scientist and host of the American Exception podcast on Patreon, joins us to talk about the Ghislaine Maxwell trial and how it could be considered something of a distraction to redirect people's attention away from the larger function she and Jeffrey Epstein may have been serving for the national security state. We talk about the connections to the intelligence apparatus of the U.S. and how these agencies always serve the interests of the rich and a transnational core of power that acts without impunity. Morgan Artyukhina, writer and news editor at Sputnik News, talks to us about the reports that the COVID-19 Omicron variant is sweeping through the Washington, DC region, with an average of 1,192 new cases per day over the past seven days, and 169 cases per 100,000 people as of Monday, making it the highest-risk place in the nation for covid infections. We talk about the measures, or half measures, put in place to allegedly mitigate this crisis here and in the country and how it seems that limiting contagion has taken a back seat to vaccinations. Eugene Puryear, journalist, author, activist, politician, host at Breakthrough News, and author of "Shackled and Chained: Mass Incarceration in Capitalist America,” joins hosts Michelle Witte and Bob Schlehuber to talk about the situation in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa, how the TPLF has been pushed back to the Tigray region and the chances of finally resolving this conflict. We also talk about the evolving media coverage and how it seems that the pro-TPLF stance is slowly being discarded, and about the history of U.S. involvement in the Horn of Africa. Femi Ayanbadejo, certified nutritionist, human performance expert, NASA technology transfer partner, founder and CEO of HealthReel, a digital self-health assessment and education platform, and former NFL running back and special teams player, talks to us about the legacy of NFL legend Joe Madden, COVID-19 and the NBA, Shohei Ohtani winning the Male Athlete of Year award, and the ongoing MLB lockout.
