The defendant in the Madeline Soto case, Stephen Sterns, continues to induce shock and display audacity in his jailhouse calls with his all-too accommodating parents, Chris and Debbie Sterns. In more of the calls, we hear Stephen asking each time for another fifty bucks for his commissary account, and his dad seems to have no problem putting the money in the account. Keep in mind that the parents are also paying for the jailhouse calls. So now, they have an extra monthly bill for Stephen--although it's cheaper than paying for his car maintenance, gas, insurance and for his rent and food. The parents also display what appears to be their complete faith in Stephen's story that he was not in the room when Madeline Soto died, and that he's being scapegoated for the crime by others. Take a listen as I break it all down and share key moments from various calls.Jailhouse call audio from The Docket and Plunder.#madelinesoto #maddiesoto #justiceformadeline #asmr #jennsoto #stephensterns #florida #truecrime #idaho #moscowidaho #kayleegoncalves #madisonmogen #ethanchapin #xanakernodle #moscowstudentmurders #idahostudentmurders #moscowhomicides #truecrimeunsolved #truecrimeunsolvedCONTACT INFORMATIONContact Email: tofbedcrimestories@gmail.comSupport the show

Another Take revisits stories from the archives. This originally aired on January 18, 2021. None of the dates, titles, or other references from that time have been changed. Members of the Latinx community have been perpetually underrepresented in Hollywood, both in front of and behind the camera. In 2021, big awards shows ignored programs that centered Latinx stories, like One Day at a Time, Vida, and Gentefied. Now, creators are demanding more. 270 producers, writers, and showrunners signed a letter calling for systematic change in the industry. Two of the letter’s signees explore why Latinx shows are undervalued and why these creators are pushing for diversity in entertainment. In this episode: Gloria Calderón Kellett, Co-show-runner & Co-creator of One Day at a Time Marvin Lemus, Show-runner of Gentefied Episode credits: This episode was updated by Chloe K. Li. The U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) played a central role in enabling Jeffrey Epstein's vast criminal enterprise, serving as both his primary base of operations and a jurisdiction that allowed his abuse to continue unchecked for decades. Epstein's private island, Little Saint James, was the epicenter of his sex trafficking network, yet despite widespread knowledge of his illicit activities, local authorities turned a blind eye or, worse, actively facilitated his operations. The government granted Epstein extensive tax incentives and special treatment, allowing him to operate with impunity while funneling millions through shell companies registered in the territory. Even after his 2008 conviction in Florida, Epstein remained deeply entrenched in the USVI's financial and political circles, securing sweetheart business deals and leveraging his wealth to maintain influence. The failure to regulate or investigate Epstein's activities—despite glaring red flags—raises serious questions about corruption, complicity, and the true extent of the USVI's role in protecting him.Recent legal battles have further exposed how deeply the USVI government was entangled with Epstein, with officials benefiting financially from his presence while ignoring repeated warnings about his trafficking network. The territory's former first lady, Cecile de Jongh, was revealed to have worked directly for Epstein, helping him navigate regulatory loopholes and maintain access to power. Meanwhile, banks and financial institutions in the USVI facilitated the movement of Epstein's funds, ensuring his trafficking operation remained well-funded and operational. Lawsuits against JPMorgan Chase have uncovered damning evidence suggesting that USVI officials were well aware of Epstein's activities yet chose to look the other way, likely in exchange for financial incentives. The territory's recent legal posturing against Epstein's estate appears to be little more than an attempt to rewrite history, portraying themselves as victims rather than enablers. In reality, the USVI's complicity in Epstein's crimes is undeniable, raising broader concerns about the corruption and systemic failures that allowed one of the world's most notorious predators to operate so freely.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

Join us for a thought-provoking conversation with Amber Massie-Blomfield, author of Acts of Resistance: The Power of Art to Create a Better World. This conversation, recorded in store, dives into the profound role art plays in times of crisis. Amber shares stories of artists who defied oppressive regimes, like Claude Cahun's surrealist resistance in Nazi-occupied Jersey and Susan Sontag's production of Waiting for Godot during the siege of Sarajevo. We explore how art inspires activism, questions societal norms, and fosters collective resilience. From daring theatrical productions to sunflower-lined streets, Amber reveals art's transformative potential to unite and inspire. Whether you're an artist, activist, or curious thinker, this episode challenges the notion that art is “just” entertainment and posits it as a force for meaningful change.Buy Acts of Resistance: https://www.shakespeareandcompany.com/books/acts-of-resistance*Amber Massie-Blomfield's first book, Twenty Theatres to See Before You Die, was published by Penned in the Margins in May 2018, and received the Society of Authors' Michael Meyer Award. Middle age - it’s a phase of life often loaded with stereotypes, but what does it really mean to step into this season as a woman? In this episode, I sit down with the brilliant Jacinta Parsons for a raw and insightful conversation about ageing, feminism, self-awareness, and personal growth. We explore: • How feminism shapes the way we view ageing as women. • The impact of the male gaze and objectification on our self-perception. • The different archetypes of women and how they evolve with age. • The power of self-reflection and awareness in embracing midlife. • Why ageing isn’t just about loss—but about wisdom, strength, and transformation. Whether you’re in the thick of middle age or just thinking ahead, this conversation will challenge the narratives we’ve been sold and inspire you to redefine ageing on your own terms. On 31 January 2017, Mary Rice claimed that a man named William Boyette broke into her trailer and woke her at gunpoint. She said she had previously had little to do with Boyette, who was now, according to her, forcing her to leave with him in the middle of the night. Just hours earlier, Billy Boyette had murdered two women in a motel room, fatally shooting them both. What followed was a week-long manhunt and killing spree that left four women dead, Billy Boyette committing suicide, and Mary Rice arrested as his accomplice. Mary has always maintained that she was just another of Billy's victims—kidnapped and forced to accompany him on his crime spree. The police, however, told a different story. Authorities believed Mary was a willing participant in Boyette's crimes and subsequently charged her with murder and accessory after the fact. She was tried, convicted, and sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years. This is her story, as told by her from her prison cell. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In this incisive critique of the ways performances of allyship can further entrench white privilege, author Carrie J. Preston analyses her own complicit participation and that of other audience members and theater professionals, deftly examining the prevailing framework through which white liberals participate in antiracist theater and institutional “diversity, equity, and inclusion” initiatives. Complicit Participation: The Liberal Audience for Theater of Racial Justice (Oxford UP, 2024) addresses immersive, documentary, site-specific, experimental, street, and popular theatre in chapters on Jean Genet's The Blacks, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins's An Octoroon, George C. Wolfe's Shuffle Along, Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton, Anna Deavere Smith's Notes from the Field, and Claudia Rankine's The White Card. Far from abandoning the work to dismantle institutionalized racism, Preston seeks to reveal the contradictions and complicities at the heart of allyship as a crucial step toward full and radical participation in antiracist efforts. In this episode, Ibrahim Fawzy interviews Carrie J. Preston about the intersections of theater, racial justice, and social activism, the concept of “complicit participation,” and allyship. Ibrahim Fawzy is a literary translator and writer based in Boston. His interests include translation studies, Arabic literature, ecocriticism, disability studies, and migration literature.
