TRIMMING THE COVER POD: We've just covered the Ray of Light album by Madonna. We had such good fun doing that with Marissa & Caroline from The Eves that we decided to keep going! So, in this short episode, we pit Don McLean's 1971 classic song, American Pie, against the Madonna cover version from 2000. Both were hugely successful, but which has stood the test of time better?  Let the battle commence

Kicking off this journey with a legendary song that speaks just as well to our current world-at-a-crossroads as it did to the vast changes of its era. Fellow south-central Kentucky sportscaster Tyler Eaton joins me to help illustrate that connection and reflect on the intersection of sports, music, and society at this present moment.

Robert Plummer: Historical Evidence for Supernatural Signs at the Death of Jesus + “American Pie” (Don McLean)

According to the New Testament Gospels, the death of Jesus was accompanied by all sorts of signs and wonders, including supernatural happenings connected with the temple in Jerusalem. But is there any evidence outside the New Testament that any of these events really happened? As it turns out, there could be. That’s what Garrick and Timothy explore in this episode with renowned New Testament scholar Dr. Rob Plummer. In the second half, Garrick and Timothy go looking for God’s truth in Don McLean’s classic song “American Pie.” In this Episode Robert Plummer, Ph.D., is professor of New Testament interpretation at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and host of the Daily Dose of Greek screencast. He is the author or editor of several books, including Going Deeper with New Testament Greek (B&H, 2016) and 40 Questions about Interpreting the Bible (Kregel, 2010). Follow Dr. Plummer on Twitter at @dailygreek. Questions to Discuss 1. When it comes to the events that accompanied the death of Jesus, the Synoptic Gospels—Matthew, Mark, and Luke—claim that the sun was darkened, the earth shook, and the veil in the temple was torn in two. What was this curtain and why can’t we go see it today? 2. Is there any evidence in Jewish rabbinic writings that any of these miraculous events really happened? 3. What about other sources outside the New Testament? Do they say anything about extraordinary events around the time of the death of Jesus? Episode #5… 5 - really? It seems like it’s we've done at least a million episodes ... or none at all. Guess we get those confused (really - an obscure movie reference in the show notes? This is getting pretty bad - someone needs to stop Cc.) We have an intruder in our room this time and so we threw him behind the screen. We figured it’s what he gets for finding his way in the room. If that wasn’t bad enough not only did we put him behind the screen we gave him the topics of Snail, Insurance, Observation, Star, Nut and Giraffe. Gaining Inspiration - This episode’s topic was Death (bom bom bom bom) and we hit on the genres Fantasy, Post Apocalyptic, Dystopian, Science Fiction, Modern Day, and Horror. Please note: We are unscripted. We ramble. We get off topic. We are rude. We are often off color and we laugh loudly... a lot. You've been warned!
