GET TO YES by Listening, Not Telling with Neil Osborne | Selling in the Hair, Beauty and Body Industries

E46: B2C Interview w/- Kelly Kent, Owner of Cranium Hair This Clinic Growth Sprints guest interview is with a very astute salon owner, Kelly Kent, the founder and owner of Cranium Hair – a multi award winning salon in Manly, on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Kelly confesses that while she never focused on dollars, she has always focused on the important KPIs and performance markers which allowed her to grow and improve her client servicing skills. Kelly openly discusses the different phases she's moved through, since opening her own salon in 1997. Cranium has been profitable from day one and that was due to her early understandings of the percentages required to run a profitable business. As Kelly states, she was never strong at maths, however once the money started coming out of her back pocket, it really made her change her approach. She also shares how she went from a highly profitable salon to a period where she lost focus – resulting in money being wasted and her percentages drifting. She also talks with Neil about how she expanded into beauty and then realised it didn't work – so she quickly withdrew. An amazing learning experience. In this episode you'll learn: How ego can get in the way of success How making timely decisions is the way to stay profitable The frequency that Kelly reviews her Profit & Loss How Kelly looks at and responds to trends and areas of change That money is the result of you doing our job well See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What is it? Why is it important? Today, Erinn gets to interview Kelly. ;) (Disclaimer: Kelly and Erinn are not giving investment advice nor are they investment advisors). Kelly has jumped into the deep end of crypto to learn this new world of currency and is currently enrolled in the DeFi (Decentralized Finance) Academy with Brian Rose. She has been in finance most of her life and some say she is good at it. As Kelly says, being in crypto allows her, “To make money pleasurable again”. The current Central Bank Financial system is broken. It is artificially propped up by printing trillions of dollars and putting this “fake oxygen” into a dying system. Do we need a reset/collapse and to move into digital currency and assets? How are we going to counteract inflation? How will we survive the impending collapse? What's next for us on our Earth? Retired LAFD Engineer Kelly Kilmartin tells us a harrowing story from the 1st night of the LA riots (4/29/92). Assigned to Engine 250, he began to pump water to a market fire in South Central LA, when he was approached by a man with an AK47 assault rifle who told him to let the fire burn. He proceeds to rob Kelly and his captain of their radios at gunpoint, then runs off. As Kelly begins to shut down, he hears the front of the truck get shelled by machine gunfire. He jumps in the cab and calls for help on the radio but is told that no help is available. Hear the rest of this incredible story, how Kelly and his crew survive? When does SWAT show up? Who hides them from the attackers? We also hear from his wife who randomly runs into the gunman years later on jury duty. This story is a wild snapshot of the craziest night in LAFD or American firefighting history.

Kelly and Kayla Mikesell are a dynamic step-mother/daughter pair. Only recently did Kelly start to investigate the troubling issues with Mormon history that had been eating away at her children. In an effort to learn, love, and empathize with her children, she investigated the church and grew in ways that surprised her and her family. As Kelly chose love and understanding over dogma and compliance, she was able to open her heart to the members of her family in the LGBTQ community, including her step-daughter Kayla. Teenage years filled with the unimaginable amounts of shame and guilt, Kayla was able to grow into her own independent, confident adult, even winning Miss Salt Lake City and making her platform one of advocacy for the Utah Pride Center. We are honored to interview two thoughtful, articulate women putting a lot on the line to speak out while Kelly's husband still currently serves as her bishop!

Welcome to the first reflection of season 2! Following my riveting conversation with the insightful Kelly Morales, in this episode I am bringing back the topic of feeling invisible in predominantly white spaces as a person of color for more exploration. As Kelly pointed out on Ep 2, feeling like you are invisible is a common phenomenon amongst black women including Michelle Obama and Kamala Harris. People sometimes treat us like we are not there and actively ignore our opinion and experiences. The experiences women of color have with this phenomenon range from being ignored in meetings and people taking credit for our ideas, all the way to life and death situations. For instance, black women are 3-4 times more likely to die during childbirth, because healthcare professionals, who are often non-black, just do not listen to us or take our pain seriously. We almost lost Serena Williams to this issue. With an advanced risk analysis engine, Google’s reCAPTCHA system has been defending sites from fraud for more than a decade. We talk about the evolution of reCAPTCHA and learn about the specific attributes of each version. Later, we focus on reCAPTCHA Enterprise which caters this security software to enterprise companies. These challenging times demands so much more from leaders. It has become increasingly crucial to close the gaps and acknowledge every individual's contribution.  In seeing and recognizing the value each one brings, collaboration becomes a practical path that ensures an organization's growth.     Kelly Meerbott is a passionate advocate, ally and activist for diversity, equity and inclusion.  In 2009, at the height of the recession, Kelly found herself caught up in a round of 30,000 layoffs-a defining moment in her career. As Kelly explored what was next, she hired a coach who subsequently changed her life. The support and guidance of the personal coach helped her realize her passion for helping others and desire to make it a career. More importantly, she recognized how impactful and life-changing a great coach can be. This is what inspires and motivates her to share her talents to make a difference in the world.  In this episode, Kelly shares how, at one point, she wasn't included, and felt like she didn't belong. That's why she's standing up for what she advocates for, - helping leaders to step up in their leadership game where diversity, equity, and inclusion strongly matter.   In her words, it's about getting out from your head and dropping to your heart and soul to open up conversations and to just listen. A great solution is best achieved when there is a participatory atmosphere where everyone feels they belong and they matter. What you will learn from this episode:  Learn how to get past the fear of mistakes and just show up as a true leader Discover what a soul line versus a goal line of leadership is about to make you a truly empowered leader Find out the compounding power of appreciation in ways that impacts your people's morale and shoots up your profit in magnitude you would never imagine “The best thing you can do right now as a leader is open the conversation. You don't have to come up with these long, complicated plans. You don't have to do that. Just start the conversation and listen. An education and wellbeing expert is concerned that the future for young people will as challenging, if not more so, than what they experienced after the Global Financial Crisis. For Professor Peter Kelly at RMIT's School of Education, this is a consequence of years of employment instability, poor work conditions and “predatory business behaviours” and, of course, the COVID-19 pandemic. As Kelly says, young people are more vulnerable “largely because the sorts of work young people do". This includes hospitality, retail and gig work. But In his interview with Campus Review, Kelly mentioned that it’s not just the financial situation young people may find concerning: he described the current period as a sort of “existential crisis”, a time when many vulnerable young people are asking: “What does life look like next?” “They are trying to map out the next stage of their lives,” Kelly said, “and are also seeking all those things that mark an adult life – independence, autonomy.” Kelly has criticised the governments and peak bodies for focussing too narrowly on skills and training, something the academic argues young people already have. The academic is leading a project in Melbourne’s inner north called COVID-19 and Young People’s Well-being, Education, Training and Employment Pathways: Co-designing Scenarios for Young People’s Sustainable Futures. Th project seeks to look at what “recovery” looks like for vulnerable young people in the short, medium and longer term, and help them map out the next stages of their lives in broad, critical and sometimes provocative ways. “We’re particularly interested ion those populations who are already vulnerable,” he said, adding that “they didn’t have to have a mental illness to be considered vulnerable."

What's it take to make a story go viral? Global? To top the charts as word-of-mouth carries your tale far and wide—for days, months, or even years? There's no one formula. But certain things help stack the odds in your favor. Like novelty (a unique idea). Grabbiness (where your reader is instantly pulled in). Brevity (requiring no significant time commitment—at least not to get them hooked). Universality (people see themselves in your story). The urge to merge (large numbers want to share your work, and do!).Chart-topping is something my guests for today's Beautiful Writers Podcast episode know well. Kelly Noonan Gores is the director, writer, and star of the global phenomenon, the HEAL documentary, now out in book form this month. She's joined by Anita Moorjani, who you may know of from her gob-smacking miraculous healing story. (Riddled with cancerous tumors, Anita walked out of the hospital cancer-free following a near-death-experience.) Her New York Times bestselling memoir, Dying To Be Me, inspired millions, including being the impetus for why Kelly finally made the film she'd been dreaming of for nearly a decade. I LOVE this conversation—especially hearing about the magical way in which both women were “discovered” by publishers, just as they were finally feeling ready to be seen and heard in the world, after years of resistance. (Funny how the universe knows our innermost thoughts.) As Kelly points out in HEAL, nearly half of Americans—more than 133 million of us—lives with a chronic disease. Close to 80 million of us have multiple conditions. If you're suffering or love someone who is, I believe these women will make you feel a renewed sense of hopefulness. Hope about the body’s innate ability to heal. Hope about how you were born to have a life you love. And hope about how to follow their lead to create a unique, grabby, universally beloved story of your own. I'm so glad you're here!Linda xoFor more information, go to beautiulwriterspodcast.com

Kelly Aiello joins me for a chat about these very topics; living with Bipolar Disorder, being a Mental Health advocate,  and the importance of "telling it like it is" when it comes to living with mental illness. Kelly is a contributor for The Mighty as well as blogger, student, wife, artist and activist. She writes primarily about mental health issues and has currently returned to school to study neuropsychology. She has bipolar type I disorder and borderline personality disorder, and lives with her husband and way too many cats in Toronto, Canada. You can learn more about her by visiting KellyJAiello.ca , including her upcoming novel and maybe send her a message and find out just how many cats she has :)  I originally connected with Kelly on a roundtable discussion coordinated by our mutual friend, author, and advocate Rebecca Lombardo.  After that talk, I knew that I wanted to bring her onto the Beyond Your Past Podcast, to learn more about her life and advocacy work. Kelly shares openly about her life and struggles with Bipolar Disorder, and paints the picture in a very real, authentic way. She talks about the particular spectrum, or level, that she lives with and also the difficulty that she experienced in finally getting the proper diagnosis. We also discuss, is that not every person fits nice and neatly into one of the 4 defined categories. Therein lies the struggle, even with someone who is knowledgeable, in getting the proper diagnosis. Similarly to Dissociation, you don't always have the symptoms of just 1 particular type of Bipolar Disorder. As Kelly shares, it can take years to get the right treatment plan in place; and that's an incredible struggle for the person going through it and for those that help support them in their healing journey. We also talk about her work in advocacy and the importance of sharing what really happens in daily life. Living with a mental illness has become quite a mainstream topic these days, which is good in some ways and not so good in others. The awareness is always a good thing; I think most of us would agree that anything that helps destigmatize mental health challenges is a positive. One of the problems is though that you can't always put a positive spin on it; which is what some of the advocacy groups that Kelly has tried to work with, attempt to do. The tough days when you struggle to get out of bed, to get a shower, and go to work when you'd rather just stay in bed or curl up in a ball in the corner of your room waiting for the emotional struggle of a trigger to pass. Being a survivor of trauma and living with Bipolar or any other mental illness isn't about something positive all the time..it's many times just about just trying to make it through the day. When you share in this real and vulnerable way, you reach an audience that would otherwise feel like they are completely alone. Kelly also shares some tips and insight on what she's learned in the areas of self-care, which also equates to self-love, as you'll hear her explain.  She talks about the importance of setting up a schedule in advance, that you can refer too on a day that you struggle, so you're prepared ahead of time and have a plan in place to take care of yourself and celebrate each win that day. Again With This: Beverly Hills, 90210 & Melrose Place

As Kelly heads out to start her job at the Foundation Foundation instead of taking several more weeks off to think about how she betrayed Brandon by failing to corroborate his pick at the police lineup, Brandon continues riding Detective Woods about the single biggest crime in Los Angeles for which justice has yet to be served: the case of no one making Brandon feel better. And when he's not on the phone, he's having more flashbacks about his failure to prevent Kelly from getting shot. He's a lot of fun! Speaking of fun: Donna still hasn't backed down on her judgment of David's bigoted clients, including when they attract the interest of a record label A&R guy who's ready to sign them to a five-figure contract. What better time for the band to escalate from conversational racism to songs that advocate full-on race war? Donna can't focus entirely on David's problems, though, since she has to deal with the fact that she's lost all her clients...or is it that Val's stolen them? Donna gets revenge the best way she knows how: by weaponizing STUFF. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Again With This: Beverly Hills, 90210 & Melrose Place

As Kelly starts the slow and agonizing process of trying to recover her memory after suddenly developing amnesia, Brandon does his part by being extremely territorial about a woman who remembers zero things about him. Helpful! Elsewhere, Steve seems to think his ill-conceived plan to become a sports agent is going to impress Carly so much she drops her objections and starts dating him; and when Donna starts her job as a fashion executive's personal assistant, said executive's pooch Goliath has no choice but to run away from all her STUFF. Welcome to If the Apocalypse Comes, Beep Me, also known as I Wear the Cheese, It Does Not Wear Me. This week we look at "What's My Line, Pt. 2!" We talk plots, we talk firsts, we get deep into Slayer lore (or what there is of lore), accents and the communicative burden. As Kelly notes about the episode, "accepting help from others can be hard, and scary, but is often beneficial," and just like Buffy and Kendra being stronger together, so are you and us! Full show notes at our website and @beepmepod on Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr, all the usual suspects.

Teacher: Kelly Morris Host: Zubin Shroff   If you’re looking for straight talk and life-changing insights from a master teacher, you’re going to love this episode of Talking Yoga featuring Zubin Shroff’s interview with Kelly Morris. You’ll discover the “dirty little secret of yoga teachers” (hip replacement surgery as a result of years of loading the joints) and why so many yogis are abandoning their mats in their forties and fifties. Find out why Kelly thinks yoga has devolved “into people just trying to get into shape” when it was really “meant to heal you and restore you to the greater whole from which man and woman are largely asunder.” And learn how yoga helps you demand less from your personal relationships by offering a way to connect to the cosmos by yourself, in a non-sexual way, without a partner. When Simon from Oakland, CA asks about the recent trend of including more meditation in yoga classes, Kelly explains why she’s all for it. As Kelly puts it, “My meditation practice has been instrumental in allowing me, affording me, this different kind of relationship with my body, and with the Earth, and with what I call the greater cosmos.” You’ll also hear about how Kelly’s approach to yoga has changed as she’s gotten older, and why she thinks it’s so important to bring your meditation skill set into the classroom.

This week's guests are Herb Rosen (owner of Liar's Club & musician: Rights of the Accused and Beer Nuts) and Kelly Galassi (bartender/charitable soul). We visit Dante's Pizza at 2825 N. Milwaukee for a trio of ginormous slices. As Kelly says, "You've gotta do the New York fold." First up: We talk about the "Benefit for Flint" happening at Liar's Club (1665 W. Fullerton) on Sunday 2/28. Bring water. Bring money for water. They're going to drive it to Michigan after the benefit. Kelly came up with the idea; she's cool. And then there's Herb, a man with an almost supernatural level of charisma. Speaking of supernatural, Is Liar's Club haunted? Everyone seems to think so. It was even on T.V. At the very least, it's a confirmed fact that a guy killed his wife with a hatchet there "back in the day." Herb talks about his rock and roll history, from his days in the Chicago scene of the 90s to the rock scene at Liar's Club (why was Josh Homme hiding upstairs one night?). I make a comic book metaphor to describe Liar's Club. It meets with Herb's approval. Also in the show, we learn from Herb's experience that flatulence ruins any hiding-from-the-police moment. And finally, who is Tim Murphy, and does he listen to Car Con Carne?
