Chicago’s favorite hard-drinking, hard-partying, inspirers-of-bad-decisions, band is back. The Beer Nuts will play an early show on St. Patrick’s Day at Liar’s Club (with opening act One for the Ditch). Joining me to preview the show outside Liar’s Club are Joe Kelly, Lou Svitek and returning favorite Herb. Lou and Joe turned the episode into a potluck: Lou brought bags of fried shrimp from Frank’s Chicago Shrimp House and Joe brought pork chop sandwiches from Jim’s Original. Things went off the rails quickly, but that’s part of the Beer Nuts’ charm. If you’re looking for thoughtful, resonant music journalism, I promise this isn’t the episode for you. See Beer Nuts on 3/17 at Liar’s Club! ## Car Con Carne sponsored by Easy Automation: easy-automation.net Transform your living space with cutting-edge home automation. Don't even think of listening to this one at work. You WILL get fired. The Beer Nuts are the, um, Chicago gold standard for hooky, lawsuit-skirting, morally questionable, insult-comedy punk-rock (does that cover it?). At the center of this circus is the, um, mind of Joe Kelly: Part imp, part clown prince, and more than a little delinquent. He's also a true lifer that has written some of our favorite songs and never fails to make us laugh. On this episode we (try) to talk to Joe about his first band Lost Cause, his years as a member of Ministry, David Mamet, military school in Canada, The Payolas, being the beer kid at Metro, Herb, the Creed meltdown show, and the time he kicked Gabe's brother in the head. This episode is brought to you by toilet paper.

A lot of balls in this one. Depending on who you ask — Herb Rosen is the owner of Liar's Club, the bass player of Rights Of The Accused, the mayor of Chicago, the bass player for Beer Nuts, or a huge fan of podcasts. Herb talks about his college days in Madison, being the O.G. of the cowbell, KISS, that time Brian St. Clair beat him at his own game, the pros and cons of acid, broken femur bones, getting cut off by the nitrous guy at RFK stadium, and a whole bunch of other stuff that we had to cut out. This episode had to happen sometime — so it might as well happen today.
