The Green Shoe Society Anthem At The Green Shoe Society, we own our lives, all of it. We fix what we want to fix and leave the rest behind. We set healthy boundaries, not because we have to, but because we choose to. We go after what we want in life, unapologetically. We are strong in all the best ways and we also let ourselves be soft, vulnerable, and imperfect. We don't beat ourselves up for needing rest. In fact, we take it, guilt-free. We say yes when it feels right, and no when it doesn't, without regret. We seek pleasure and joy, and we leave shame, guilt, and all those invisible ties behind. We stop worrying so much about what others think. We stop giving so many fucks. We learn to listen to our bodies, to trust them, to honor them. We stand tall when we need to, but we're also okay with letting go of the need to take on the world. We focus on our little corner of the world and celebrate the hell out of it. We give ourselves permission to feel all of life the good, the bad, the messy, and the beautiful. We've already busted through so many fucking paradigms, and now? The last one is our own mental cage. We are feminists. We are truth seekers. We are bullshit breakers. We live with passion and playfulness, singing like rock stars in our cars, or on the stage. We love the earth and all she gives us. We are good stewards, honoring her in everything we do. We dance to our record player, we sing with our hairbrush as our microphone, and we let ourselves be free. We are The Green Shoe Society and we're just getting started. What is your green shoe?! If this anthem speaks to you, then consider me your life coach. If you're ready to stop waiting and start living the life you've been craving, I'd love to work with you one on one in my private coaching program...The Renegade Sessions. Together, we'll break free from what's holding you back and create the life you've been waiting for. Life is short, Wildflower, and you've already waited long enough. It's time to step into your most authentic life. I can't wait to meet you and help you make it happen. Visit me at amyloganlife.com to get started.

Today we are re-introducing Sandra Tanner to a new generation of Mormons, exMormons, and never-Mormons. Both Sandra and her husband Jerald have strong Mormon backgrounds. When he was only eighteen, Jerald began to have doubts about his faith. When they began dating, Sandra Tanner also began to doubt. Throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s Jerald and Sandra Tanner were among the first to begin publishing on the problems with Mormon history and its truth claims. They opened a bookstore called the Utah Lighthouse Ministry and began publishing their research. Today we are going to talk about their discoveries on topics such as changes to the Book of Mormon, the problems with the Book of Abraham translation, the Kinderhook plates, how the Church covered up problematic parts of its history, and how they impacted hundreds of people in and out of the Mormon church. We are joined today by attorney Kolby Reddish to discuss the recent updates in the James Huntsman case against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Huntsman claimed the Church misused funds, alleging fraud and is seeking the return of millions of dollars of his voluntary contributions. This case could have national implications on how religious organizations use the voluntary contributions they receive from their members, and could impact how educational institutions and non-profits solicit voluntary contributions and invest some of those contributions for future use. Comedy, Controversy, and Apocalyptic Insights with Ben and Amanda In this episode, Ben and Amanda dive into Ben's journey to recording his upcoming comedy special. He shares the challenges and controversies from his previous shows, particularly the backlash he faced from the Daybreak community over his comedic material about growing up in a Mormon polygamous compound. They discuss the dynamics of perfecting comedy material, with Ben excitedly announcing his special at Wise Guys on July 26th and 27th. The conversation also explores Amanda's personal battles and apocalyptic themes, including her experiences with trauma, the loss of her mother, and surviving multiple 'personal apocalypses.' The duo reflects on societal and environmental issues, offering satirical takes on current events and a poignant critique of modern civilization's impact on the environment. Additionally, they bond over shared Mormon backgrounds, engaging in discussions on community resilience, gardening, and innovative uses for religious spaces. Amid the deep conversations, there's a humorous proposal from a 'seer stone' on how to repurpose abandoned Mormon temples for community and inclusive activities. In this episode of Religion Today, host Martin Tanner examines the plausibility of the claims made by Joseph Smith about the origin of The Book of Mormon, translated by the gift and power of God. He also examines the plausibility of the claims of critics who say Sidney Rigdon or Oliver Cowdery were authors. Martin also examines the plausibility of the claims that Ethan Smith's book View of the Hebrews or Solomon Spanding's manuscript were the source for The Book of Mormon. Martin concludes it would be impossible for Sidney Rigdon, Oliver Cowdery or View of the Hebrews, or the Spalding manuscript to be the source for the Book of Mormon. Martin also examines the Ex-Mormons claims that similar wording in the King James Bible and the Book of Mormon means The Book of Mormon is not an ancient document, and finds this theory logically flawed.

Lauren couldn't put the podcast on hiatus without doing one of her favorite kinds of episodes: namely, a REDUX! When producer and writer Jenn Lee (formerly Jenn Lee Smith) was first on the pod in July of 2022, she was celebrating the publication of a book she had co-edited called "I Spoke to You with Silence: Essays from Queer Mormons of Marginalized Genders." Jenn herself was raised in the Mormon religion, and despite having come out in 2008, she had chosen to remain in a monogamous marriage with her husband of twenty-one years, with whom she shares three children. Suffice to say that a lot has changed for Jenn since the summer of 2022. She explains how the book tour for "I Spoke to You with Silence" kicked off a chain of events, and shares how her love for her children has only deepened now that she is finally living as her whole self ("I have been able to love them so much more since feeling right in my own body and skin"). Plus, Jenn describes her experiences on the dating apps as a "little post-Mormon gayby," and Lauren asks Jenn a question that she's been mulling over ever since the day they first met...Connect with Jenn on Facebook at facebook.com/jennlee.smith2, and follow her on Instagram at @bewilderfilm. Welcome to this soon-to-be legendary episode of The Mormon History Hoedown in which I interview Kwaku El, known for his staunch defense of Mormonism on Ward Radio, Saints Unscripted, and Jubilee's Mormons vs. Exmormons! In the ring with Kwaku today, we kick it off with his conversion, liberal background, and perspectives as an apologist in the Mormon space. How did he make that shift, what's his deal and what's with all these a**holes? Moving on, we've got some drama brewing: Ad hominem attacks, DezNat showdowns, and all the tea on what Joseph Smith was really all about. Jumping ahead, let's get down to basics: What even is Mormonism, and how does Kwaku see it compared to the mainstream? Then, we're diving into the nitty-gritty: Kwaku's version of Mormonism versus the beliefs of the masses. We've got some spicy topics to stir up: Is masturbation a sin, and are Mormons getting it on before marriage? What is "true," and does it even matter? The Book of Mormon – is it historical, or just a good story? We're breaking it down. Plus, we've got some tight vs. loose translation debates and a chat about anachronisms. Stick around as I engage in a spirited debate with Kwaku, the go-to guy for defending Joseph Smith and nuancing the modern LDS church.
*Content Warning: child sex abuse, child abuse, rape, mentions of attempted suicide* When purity culture is front and center in a strict religious organization, youth are blamed for being preyed on by adults. The BYU students in these impromptu interviews have a lot of confidence in saying some of the most alarming things
*Content Warning: rape and sexual assault* Yoga instructor Larissa Anderson took yoga “guru” Bikram Choudhury to court for s*xual assault and blacklisting her yoga business after Larissa rejected a s*xual advance by Bikram (who had r*ped her before). He refused to promote her studio and she was blacklisted from the Bikram Yoga community. At the time of the s*xual assault, Bikram had already personally approved her studio down to the floor plan and knew that Larissa had begun negotiating a lease, retained a contractor and took out thousands of dollars in debt to open the studio. Larissa recounts the events that led to this court case, and the odd things that happened after. “Guru” Bikram was responsible for bringing hot yoga to the states and popularizing it. Without realizing, Larissa Anderson was slowly groomed by her then boyfriend and yoga studio owner to seamlessly fall right into Bikram's hands. He would eventually request massages from Larissa in front of hundreds of students and get more and more bold when they were alone together.Larissa underwent the intense 9 week bootcamp-style training to become an official Bikram yoga teacher so that she could eventually open her own yoga studio. Along with many other students, she endured ridicule from him, in the name of toughing up and being indestructible, and was later assaulted and r*ped by Bikram. Larissa explains the depths of her grooming and brainwashing as she descended into the cult of this Guru-narcissist.Click here to watch on YouTubeClick here to watch part 2 on YouTube Catch the full story of Bikram, featuring Larissa, in the 2019 documentary “Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator” Find Larissa on SocialIG: @yoginilarissaOur C2C vacation where we can meet you in real life and go on adventures together has 5 spots left! In this episode, Shelly's dad dies. Not literally on the show (that would have been super-weird) but just a few days before this episode was recorded. Plus, Shelly and guest co-host Kirsten get extremely sidetracked with a conversation about karaoke. Also, you will learn about Shelly's brother's magical priesthood ability to "release" dead people from their bodies. I'm not kidding.

Join John Dehlin, Jillian Orr, Liz and Dillan for clips and behind-the-scenes commentary on the Jubilee channel's “Mormons vs Ex-Mormons” episode. We think you'll get fired up with us as we highlight the most infuriating logical fallacies and manipulative tactics employed by the Mormon debaters, as well as the more poignant, genuine moments from each side. Beyond the debate recap, the conversation explores profoundly personal wounds still felt from the religion's damaging teachings on LGBTQ identities and traditional gender roles. Jillian even courageously opens up about her inability to discuss her religious views with family members still in the church.
