Today on the pod we have the absolute legend that is Bernie Clifton. Fresh from releasing his autobiography 'Crackerjack to Vegas' Bernie chats about his failed attempts to become a plumber which in turn led him to join the RAF and fly to football matches in Cold War bombers. Bernie talks warmly about his comedy cohorts including Bob Monkhouse and Les Dawson, the latter urging him to become a prop comic, something Bernie is grateful for to this day. Learn how Oswald the Ostrich came into being and why Bernie once took him up in a microlight aircraft to appease a reporter from The Daily Mirror. Bernie is clearly touched to be referenced in an Inside No.9 episode and speaks fondly of all involved. He also spills the beans on the televisual debacle that was 'It's a Royal Knockout', along with behind the scenes anecdotes from his life in TV including the seminal kids TV Show 'Crackerjack'.Please Follow us on Social Media (links below):All music written and performed in this podcast by Steve Otis Gunn,Please buy my book 'You Shot My Dog and I Love You' available in all good book shops, online and directly.Podcast Socials:Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@tvtimespodInsta: https://www.instagram.com/tvtimespodYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@tvtimespodTwitter: https://twitter.com/tvtimespodSteve's Socials:Insta: https://www.instagram.com/steveotisgunnTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/steveotisgunnFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/steveotisgunn.antisocialBernie's SocialsInsta: https://www.instagram.com/bernie.cliftonTwitter: https://twitter.com/bernieclifton_Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bernie.clifton.7Get Bernie's Book 'Crackerjack to Vegas' here: http://www.bernieclifton.co.uk/Produced by Steve Otis Gunn for Jilted Maggotwww.jiltedmaggot.com Hosted on Acast. They delved into the world of Leeds United and Jon told us about his quest to get a letter to Marcello Bielsa, a self proclaimed ‘tragic' quest' This rather unexpectedly led to the one and only Bernie Clifton calling the studio! (Long story.) Chris and Bernie then made amends as they discussed a prickly misunderstanding from the old days. All's well that ends well. Towards the end of the week we Zoomed friend of the show, Mr. Ross Kemp. We chatted about his brand new game show ‘Bridge of Lies' and even treated Chris to a practise round - spoiler alert - Chris smashed it. And if that wasn't enough, here's more… - Dom's Mucky DVD goes walkabout - Sam Graces the Dating Scene Once More - Dom doesn't know a Jazz Apple from a Granny Smith Enjoy! Danny named after the famous Danny Kaye comes from a theatrical family. His mother was a Royal Ballet and Bluebell Dancer and his father the late comedian Ted Rogers.  Danny first took to the stage after mimicking his father in the wings, leading him to play a part in Bernie Clifton's act. Starting in the entertainment business, he wanted to learn the tricks of the trade and became a Butlin's Redcoat, leading to summer seasons as an entertainer in Mallorca and Warner Leisure Hotels.  He studied at the University of Chichester, where he gained a degree in Musical Theatre where he played Mr. Peachum - The Beggars Opera, Emcee - Cabaret and The Wolf - Into the Woods. He also co-wrote a celebration of the work of Cole Porter and played the great man in Unmistakably Cole Porter (Chichester Festival Theatre).  Danny loves children's theatre and has most recently toured across the country playing Baloo in The Jungle Book (UK tour), other children's touring shows include Squirmtum in the CBeebies Television Show Tree Fu Tom Live and Big Bird and Telly Monster in Sesame Street's Theatre Show Make a New Friend (International world tour). In 2019, he went back to ‘The Good Old Days' as a solo entertainer in Old Time Music Hall produced by the Player's Theatre Music Hall Company and directed by Jan Hunt (The Museum of Comedy). Also playing Jeffrey in the rock musical Godspell (Brentwood Centre). His latest project, Bin & Gone, a one man play about his late father, has received a great success at the Brighton Fringe Festival 2018/19. He is one half of a double act with comedy partner Jamie Clarricoates called Danny and Jamie and with their combination of comedy sketches, songs and dancing, they were thrilled to be asked to perform last year at the 'Paradise for Old Pro's' at Brinsworth House. When it comes to music, variety is the spice of life at BBC Radio 2. Its database of tracks carries some 14,000 hits from every decade since the 40s. But it's the network's much vaunted playlist that every band and musician is itching to get on. This list of around 30 songs guarantees regular plays on the BBC's most popular radio station. Every week the great and the good of BBC Radio 2 gather for the playlist meeting, and this week Roger gets in on the action. Will it be the end for The Beach Boys? Will rockstars Muse make it on? Or is there a surprise joker in the pack? Feedback finds out. Roger will also talk to Radio 2's Head of Music, Jeff Smith, to discover just how the playlist is put together - and finds out what makes the ultimate Radio 2 song. And listeners respond to Radio 4's Chain Reaction, the series in which public figures choose who they want to interview, with their subject, in turn, turning interviewer. Too chummy? Or entertaining, unguarded and revealing discussions? Roger talks to the programme's producers, and to interviewee, turned interviewer - Caitlin Moran (warning some answers may include Bernie Clifton and his ostrich). And finally, you say twenty-twelve, I say two-thousand and twelve - let's call the whole thing off. Luckily the BBC Pronunciation Unit is on hand to help Roger out.
