Could Your Next Best Friend Be an AI? Kindred Labs CEO Max Giammario Thinks So, Podcast

Max Giammario "We're not just building an assistant—we're creating artificial life that you actually want to talk to." — Max Giammario, CEO, Kindred Labs In one of the most thought-provoking episodes of Technology Reseller News, publisher Doug Green sat down with Max Giammario, CEO of Kindred Labs, to discuss a new frontier in AI: emotionally intelligent, pop-culture-powered digital companions. Forget impersonal chatbots or disjointed AI assistants. Kindred Labs is blending beloved characters like Hello Kitty, Teletubbies, and Pudgy Penguins with advanced agentic AI to create immersive, emotionally resonant digital experiences. The goal? A future where your most trusted companion might be a personality you already know and love. Artificial Life Meets Emotional Intelligence Giammario's research centers on artificial life and emotional connection. Kindred is the result of that work, delivering companions that don't just complete tasks—they live across your devices, follow your routines, and grow with you over time. "Imagine a character like Hello Kitty or a K-pop idol expressed as your AI assistant," said Giammario. "It's Clippy reimagined for the AI era, but now it's someone you love waking you up, organizing your day, tracking your portfolio, and cheering you on during your workout." That vision isn't hypothetical. Kindred already has over 100,000 active users, and many of them spend more than six hours a day interacting with their AI companions. These are cross-platform personalities, jumping from mobile to laptop to smartwatch, offering contextually relevant help with a smile, a joke, or a familiar catchphrase. Trust, Familiarity, and Emotional Loyalty One of Kindred's key innovations is in overcoming what Giammario calls the "AI trust gap." "Most people are hesitant to allow AI that level of access to their life. But when it comes wrapped in a character you know—one you already trust—you drop your guard. That's the magic." Kindred isn't just function-first. In fact, its entire model is based on emotional connection. Users don't just use Kindred because it works. They use it because they love the character. "If we just built a better assistant, we'd be in a race to the bottom," Giammario explained. "But if you love your Bugs Bunny, you'll stick with it. That loyalty is what lets us deliver more functionality, not the other way around." A Single Interface Across Everything The implications for enterprise and commercial applications are vast. Instead of bouncing between disconnected bots, imagine a single consistent AI companion interface across every website and interaction. "Chatbots are fragmented," said Giammario. "But your Kindred character can follow you across every business, every device, and every platform—always learning, always adapting." In the workplace, that might look like a familiar avatar giving you a morning briefing, syncing your calendar, prompting reminders, and surfacing insights from your CRM. In retail, it could mean brand mascots that act as informed, AI-powered shopping concierges. From Fiction to Reality Giammario admits that this shift can feel surreal—even science fiction. But it's already happening. "We're crossing a line from tools into relationships," said Green. "From functionality into feeling." And it's not just about novelty. The mental health benefits, the engagement rates, and the potential for radically new forms of interaction are all on the table. Learn More Visit KindredLabs.ai to meet your next digital companion, explore the white paper, or join the community on Discord. You can also follow Max Giammario on X and Kindred at @kindred_ai. Kindred is turning the characters you grew up with into the digital friends you take into the future. The question now is: Are you ready to meet your AI best friend?

Send us a textTwo beers that completely flip traditional expectations - that's the delightful contradiction we explore in our latest adventure through craft beer's wilder frontiers. The Midnight Butcher Black IPA from Michaux Brewing arrives dark as night yet carries the distinctive bitterness of an IPA, creating what we describe as a "bitter chocolate" experience that improves significantly as it warms. At 6.5% ABV, this collaboration with Rooster Street Brewing challenges what we typically expect from the style.Following our journey through darkness, we pivot to a golden-hued Albino White Stout from Cleveland's Butcher and Brew that delivers mind-bending coffee and chocolate flavors despite its bright appearance. The surprising sweetness and easy drinkability of this 5.4% creation earned unanimous 9/10 ratings from both hosts – a standout that would appeal even to those who normally shy away from traditional stouts.Between sips, we venture into Rick's upcoming maiden voyage with his new camper (hopefully more successful than the Titanic's journey that began on this very date in 1912), Princess's adventures with his new Teletubby-like CPAP machine, and a surprisingly detailed conversation about ass cracks, potential tattoos, and the advantages of snorkel-breathing apparatus in intimate situations. These tangents might explain why we keep coming back to these beers to ground ourselves!Whether you're intrigued by beers that challenge visual expectations or simply enjoy authentic conversations between friends, this episode delivers both in equal measure. Find these unexpected brews if you can – they represent the creative spirit driving today's craft beer industry and provide perfect examples of how innovation continues to thrive among American brewers.Support the showwww.anotherreasontodrink.com

Tinky Winky, Dipsy, La La and Po were introduced to British viewers on 31st March, 1997 - launching an international phenomenon and changing kid's television forever. ‘Teletubbies' was an enormous hit for the BBC, but not without controversy: from viewers concerned that the characters' toddlerish language might impede the linguistic development of the nation's children, to angry Radio Times readers who claimed the BBC were committing ‘cultural vandalism' by axing the long-running series Playdays. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly get lost in the weeds of Teletubbies Wiki fandom; revisit the ‘toy rage' that the show had inspired by Christmas 1997; and reveal why the first generation ‘tubbies never did live appearances…  Further Reading: • ‘Teletubbies turn 20: how four blinking toddlers became a true TV phenomenon' (The Guardian, 2017): https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/mar/31/teletubbies-turn-20-how-four-blinking-toddlers-became-a-true-tv-phenomenon • ‘The Great Distractor' (Centre for Media, Technology and Democracy, 2021): https://www.mediatechdemocracy.com/work/the-great-distractor • ‘Teletubbies: Ned's Bicycle' (BBC, 1997): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9woh2gKx1rM&list=PL8Zq4IrtuktnIh_XkWqMRfNkebVPgUIwy Love the show? Moin und willkommen zum Fleckenhörer am 24. Februar 2025.

Hosted by editor and journalist Michael Schneider, it delves deep into the rapidly evolving film industry. In this episode, we bring together a diverse group of industry experts for a dynamic conversation about the ever-evolving world of TV series. We delve into what makes a series truly international—what allows a show to break through cultural and language barriers and resonate with audiences worldwide? Is it the warmth of relatable characters that audiences are seeking during challenging times, or is it the exploration of social-political issues and dystopian themes that capture our collective attention? Ultimately, the answer lies in universally compelling stories that speak to viewers beyond the confines of a single market. While it may be a tougher feat for comedy, there's a clear call for future series to transcend these boundaries and reach a global audience. In this discussion, Anna Rohde, Steve Matthews, Maria Cervera, and Paul Telegdy offer their unique perspectives on the international series market, providing predictions on where global audiences are headed next. They also explore the current trends shaping the industry, including the impact of financial shifts. Tune in to hear the experts tackle the future of series content and its journey across the globe. The Berlinale Series Market is the EFM's boutique market for serial content from all over the world. From February 16 to 19, industry experts, creatives, buyers and distributors will meet again at CinemaxX at Potsdamer Platz and Gropius Bau. Steve Matthews is the Head of Scripted, Creative, at Banijay Entertainment, where he plays a pivotal role in the group's production development process, leading on creative initiatives for original drama projects. Before joining Banijay Entertainment, Matthews was VP and Executive Producer, Scripted, at HBO Europe, having joined the business back in 2014. In that post, he partnered with local teams across Central Europe, Spain and Nordics, to spearhead the development of original series, miniseries, and international adaptations. His portfolio included Pustina, Umbre, Blinded By The Lights, Uspjeh, The Sleepers, Foodie Love, Gösta; and from Banijay Entertainment's footprint specifically, 30 Coins (Pokeepsie), Beforeigners (Rubicon), and Beartown (Filmlance). Additionally, Matthews is dedicated to mentoring talent, and set up Banijay Bootcamp, a specific programme for scripted creatives. Before joining Germany's distribution and production house Beta Film GmbH as International Creative Executive & Content Editor, Anna Rohde studied dramaturgy, philosophy, and literature at Munich's Theatre Academy and at Ludwig Maximilian University Munich. Before her studies, she worked as assistant director in many national and international TV and feature films. She is member of Germany's VeDRA (Verband für Film- und Fernsehdramaturgie e.V.), jury member of e.g. the International Emmy's semi-finals, the Council of Europe Eurimages development award and – among others - mentor of SFF's (Sarajevo Film Festival) CineLink workshop, the post-graduate Serial Eyes writing program. As content editor, she has been working on many internationally successful shows from the CEE region, most recently on the multi-awarded THE SILENCE (2021-2023) and GOLDEN BOY (2021), Jasmila Zbanic's Venice premiered I KNOW YOUR SOUL (2023), and the Canneseries-awarded OPERATION SABRE (2024). Maria Cervera is Head of Content for Cattleya Producciones, part of ITV Studios in Spain. During her 20 year+ professional path she has focused on series development and production for local and international markets, with previous roles at Paramount's International TV Studio as Head of Content for EMEAA and within the Netflix International team. She also teaches at several writing programs including Berlin's Serial Eyes and Spain's screenwriters' guild-sponsored master. Paul Telegdy has worked across all genres of content, on brands as diverse as Top Gear, Teletubbies, Dr Who, The Voice and Planet Earth, to name a handful. Paul worked at NBCUniversal for 12 years, becoming Chairman of NBC in 2019, before that the BBC for ten years. In 2021, Paul co-founded The Whole Spiel, a media, entertainment, and gaming company based in Berlin and Los Angeles. With a degree in Korean and Japanese, and having lived in Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Japan, The US and the UK, Paul has a distinctly global view of content and opportunity. The host Michael Schneider has been covering the business of television for more than 25 years — most of that time at Variety, where he oversees television coverage as its TV Editor. Schneider has won several entertainment journalism awards and also regularly contributes to local outlets including Spectrum News 1 and KCRW. He was previously Executive Editor at IndieWire; the Chief Content Officer for TV Guide Magazine; and TV Editor at Daily Variety. Mike regularly moderates industry and TV show panels at events including Comic-Con, PaleyFest, HRTS, NATPE and others, and once won a staring contest with Jon Hamm on the Dolby Theatre stage. This podcast episode has been developed in collaboration with Variety. Doctor... (door opens) Eiffel: Ah, Doctor Hilbert! Thank goodness, there you are! I need help.  Hilbert: Officer Eiffel. What seems to be the problem? Eiffel: I - I don't know. I feel like nothing I do sounds the way it ought to. The funny parts aren't funny. The exciting parts aren't exciting. It's like I've lost the script on my whole life.  Hilbert: I see. Do not be worried, Officer Eiffel. Problem is serious but there is simple solution.  Eiffel: Is the great clown Pagliacci in town? Hilbert: Even better. (music abruptly changes, replaced by a more playful melody) Hilbert: Podcast creator Gabriel Urbina is offering online workshop on how to write the great audio fiction.  Eiffel: He is? Hilbert: He is. Is comprehensive journey through the building blocks of gripping podcast stories.  Eiffel: Does it cover the basics of how to write scenes without any visuals? Hilbert: Absolutely. But it goes beyond that. It explains how audio fiction can do things no other medium does, such as making the audience imagine visuals that cannot be seen.  Eiffel: You mean like that weird room in the back of the station, where the walls are painted a color that's darker than black?  Hilbert: Precisely. Or the way you can introduce a new detail into scene and completely change audience's understanding of what was happening.  Eiffel: Oh! Is that why you're dressed up as a Teletubby? To illustrate that concept? Hilbert: Uh... no. I am wearing this for... my own purposes. Do not ask any more questions about the outfit.  Eiffel: I am not going to ask any more questions about the outfit. Well, Doc, I have to say I'm sold.  (a laminated card is placed on the table) Eiffel: Will my insurance cover this? Hilbert: Eiffel, you know very well that Goddard Futuristics does not offer health insurance to independent contractors such as yourself. Eiffel: Awww man... Hilbert: This is Dave and Busters gift card.  Eiffel: But it's still valid!  Hilbert: But: more good news. There are scholarship opportunities available for students and others who need them. Visit website for more information.  Eiffel: (leaving) Amazing. Doc, this sounds exactly like what I needed. How can I repay you?  Hilbert: No need, happy to be of assistance. (lower) Besides, genetic materials nanobots collected while you were in laboratory will be perfectly adequate display of gratitude.  Eiffel: What was that, doc? Hilbert: Nothing, Officer Eiffel, nothing! Enjoy the class! (music changes again, replaced with a bouncy, happy theme) Gabriel Urbina: Writing Stories For Sound, a set of online classes by me, Gabriel Urbina. In this episode, we take a deep dive into Teletubbies, the iconic and groundbreaking children's TV show that captivated audiences around the world in the late 90s. With its colorful characters, surreal landscapes, and unique approach to early childhood development, Teletubbies wasn't just a hit—it was a cultural phenomenon. We explore how this unconventional show became one of the most influential and talked-about children's programs of all time. We begin by exploring the origins of Teletubbies. Created by Anne Wood and Andrew Davenport, the show was designed specifically for toddlers, using simple language, repetition, and bright visuals. We'll discuss how its creators took inspiration from the rapidly changing technology landscape of the 90s, and how they crafted a show that broke all the traditional rules of children's television. From its conception to its debut, we'll dive into what made Teletubbies so unique and unlike anything else on TV. Next, we move on to the impact Teletubbies had both on children and the wider public. The show sparked a range of reactions—from parents who praised its soothing nature to critics who questioned its strange, often confusing content. We'll talk about the massive success of the show, including its multiple BAFTA awards, global syndication, and the billions in merchandise sales it generated. At the same time, we'll delve into the controversies that surrounded the show, from concerns about its appeal to very young children to debates over Tinky Winky's perceived symbolism. We'll explore the enduring legacy of Teletubbies. Even after the original series ended in 2001, the show continued to air in reruns and was eventually rebooted in 2015 for a new generation of viewers.  We wrap up the episode by reflecting on what Teletubbies meant to an entire generation of children, and how it remains a symbol of 90s pop culture. We'll discuss whether the show's surreal charm is timeless or simply a product of its era, and why Teletubbies continues to be remembered so fondly. Talk2TheHand is an independent throwback podcast run by husband and wife, Jimmy and Beth. Obsessed with 90s nostalgia and 90s celebrities, we'll rewind the years and take you back to the greatest era of our lives.   New episodes bursting with nostalgia of the 90s released on Tuesdays.  How a beloved children's cartoon turns fathers into mothers and what the Bible says about itBlaze Media, By Jeremy Pryor, on October 6, 2024https://www.theblaze.com/align/bluey-turns-fathers-into-mothersBluey's dad adores his kids. A conservative writer says that's unbiblical. The Friendly Atheist by Hemant Mehta on October 8, 2024https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/blueys-dad-adores-his-kids-a-conservativeThe conversation opens with a discussion about a conservative writer, Jeremy Pryor, and his critique of the children's cartoon Bluey, focusing on the portrayal of the father figure. Pryor argues that the show reflects how modern society has removed all "manly" aspects of fatherhood. Cindy introduces the topic by discussing the article's outcry against the show, noting that it was featured in conservative media outlets. The debate begins by highlighting the absurdity of Pryor's stance, with the panelists collectively agreeing that attacking a children's cartoon for such reasons is a stretch. Kelley and Cynthia point out the frequent conservative attacks on children's media over the years, referencing shows like Barney and Teletubbies.Cynthia discusses how Pryor's appeal to tradition is a flawed argument. His belief that traditional gender roles should be preserved without question is based on a false premise that these roles are biologically fixed and beneficial. She dismantles Pryor's assumption that such roles are inherently superior, noting that rigid gender roles have historically caused harm within families. Jonathan picks up on this theme, arguing that this conservative backlash is a desperate attempt to cling to a sense of privilege and outdated personal mythology. He observes that as society evolves toward equality, those invested in traditional gender roles feel left behind, often clinging to an imagined idealized past where men were strong and women submissive.Kelley points out the absurdity of Pryor's claim about an "objective" ideal for fatherhood and motherhood, noting that such ideals are subjective and influenced by cultural norms. The idea that there could be one "correct" version of parenthood is questioned, and the panelists collectively reject this notion.Cindy continues by questioning the supposed biological basis of gendered behaviors, mocking the idea that boys should wear blue and girls pink as something rooted in biology.Jonathan dives into the hypocrisy of conservatives like Pryor, who decry the influence of symbols in media on children's minds, all while the church itself has used symbols for centuries to shape behavior. He calls out this projection of guilt onto others, a tactic to distract from their own indoctrination efforts. He emphasizes that conservatives often accuse others of what they themselves are guilty of, particularly when they cannot defend their outdated beliefs. Jonathan concludes that such people are too emotionally invested in their beliefs and social standing to change, even when confronted with facts.Cindy points out that Pryor's complaints about the show's title character being blue as a subversive gender statement are entirely misplaced. Bluey is a blue heeler dog, not a comment on gender roles.Cynthia shares an anecdote about her own upbringing, where her father played a central, loving role in her life, defying the stereotypical “manly” behaviors that conservatives like Pryor seem to promote. The panel concludes by agreeing that conservatives' fixation on rigid gender roles is not only outdated but harmful, and that individuals should not be defined by their beliefs. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.42.1 featuring Kelley Laughlin, Jonathan Roudabush, Cindy Plaza and Cynthia McDonaldBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Sarah McCammon's upbringing was steeped in evangelical culture—raised as a Charismatic Christian in Kansas City, Missouri, she asked God for salvation at just two years old.  Soon she was ‘street witnessing', trying to convert strangers to her mega-church; praying at family dinners for the salvation of her atheist grandfather; and crediting Jesus for healing her stubbed toe.  As a teen, she followed the expected path: wearing a purity ring, committing to abstinence before marriage, attending a Christian university, getting married, and starting a family. But then, she left it all behind. In this candid conversation with Olly, Sarah—now a national political correspondent for NPR—unpacks the emotional, social, and political forces that shaped her beliefs, and ultimately led her to walk away from the evangelical world.  Offering a compelling insider's view of life within the movement, she delves into the personal cost of leaving her faith, and explains the deep connection between white evangelicals and their unwavering support for Donald Trump. Sarah's book, The Exvangelicals, is out now. _______ Meanwhile, in The Zeitgeist, Ollie Peart takes on the challenge of preparing for the Government's infamous ‘Life in the UK' test. Although already a British citizen, Ollie has been swotting up to answer a dozen real-life questions from the extensive pool of questions that aspiring citizens must study. Can he correctly respond to the required 75%? With topics ranging from British history to culture and law—and a £50 fee per attempt—he and Olly soon realise just how tricky and unpredictable these questions can be… _______ Elsewhere, in the Foxhole, Alix Fox - fresh from a surprisingly intimate moment with the Teletubbies - considers the ethics of hiring a sex worker. Is it ever truly possible to ensure prostitutes have not been trafficked by criminal gangs? What distinctions exist between the proposed decriminalization and legalisation of sex work? And even if women choose to enter the field due to poverty and desperation - does that necessarily mean they are victims? With the help of sex worker-turned-author and comedian Kaytlin Bailey and the English Collective of Prostitutes, Alix gives this sticky quandary her very best shot… _______ Finally, the music Making Us Happy this month… is Jason Derulo's Make Me Happy

Roxxxy Andrews more than earns her commission in the final minutes of this week's episode. After a series of real estate commercials that weren't necessarily fighting off bidders, some workroom drama about Florida accents, Jorgeous's Mommy and me moment on the runway and a pretty hairy lip sync, an anguished blind crab walk was just what this episode needed to continue to sell us on this absurd telethon pitting charities against one another. Also, the Teletubbies show up and we have some very strong opinions on real estate agency branding, silly straight boys and of course, Shannel.Want even more Alright Mary? With possibly our most eclectic batch of lists yet, we cover a good cross section of what 1972 had to offer. Joining us on this journey are guitarist/vocalist Henry Girard and drummer/vocalist Pablo Garcia from Montreal garage-pop provocateurs The Wesleys, who have just released their highly anticipated Self-Titled debut LP on Little Village Records. The debut album is a dynamic exploration that ventures into a sonic landscape that transcends conventional boundaries, blending elements of the rock, power pop, indie, and alternative genres. The Wesleys embrace their DIY ethos, channeling their creativity into music that feels authentic and natural, a reflection of their shared passion and unwavering dedication. The Wesleys craft melodic rock n' roll songs that resonate with both heart and adrenaline, and will surely appeal to fans of The Clean, The Replacements, Teenage Fanclub, Pixies, The Shins, or Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. Want to write great fiction podcasts but don't know where to begin? You're not alone! Wolf 359 creator Gabriel Urbina is offering a new and updated version of his acclaimed online workshop, Writing Stories For Sound this February. Join Gabriel on a guided tour of his own journey into understanding audio, as he retraces his steps and revisits the questions he asked as he was taking his first baby steps into the medium with the first episodes of Wolf 359. He's teaching the workshop twice this month - once on Thursday February 22nd at 7:00 PM Eastern time and once on Sunday February 25th at 2:00 PM Eastern time! For more information or to sign up, please visit wolf359.fm/learn. * * * TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S MESSAGE: (sounds of Eiffel fidgeting, while tense, dramatic music plays) Eiffel: Come on come on come on... where is he?
