Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 24ú lá de mí Aibreán, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1965 fuair na Gardaí bean a bhí 67 bhliain d'aois I mBéal Feirste agus bhí sí reoite ina teach óna iníon. I 1981 tháinig an nuacht amach go raibh coisc ar chruinniú tuismitheoirí is múinteoirí agus bhí éileamh do 15 punt an uair do chomhairliúchán taobh amuigh d'uaireanta scoile. I 2000 faoi dheireadh bhuaigh Coláiste Cistercian I Ros Cré corn Craobh na hÉireann don chéad uair I 95 bhliain. I 2010 bhí plean I gcóir an fhoireann iománaíocht chun dul chuig an Spáinn chun traenáil ach cuireadh ar ceal é de bharr go raibh brúchtadh bolcán san Íoslainn agus de bharr sin chuaigh siad chuig láthair eile in Éirinn. Sin Bucks Fizz le Making Your Mind Up – an t-amhrán is mó ar an lá seo I 1981. Ag lean ar aghaidh le nuacht cheoil ar an lá seo I 1995 tháinig Oasis amach le hamhrán nua Some Might Say agus fuair siad a chéad uimhir a haon sa Bhreatain. Níor tharla an fhís don amhrán de bharr nár tháinig Liam chuig an siút. Rinne siad an fís amach as cúpla fís eile – Cigarettes and Alcohol, Supersonic agus Whatever. I 2012 chuir Sineád O'Connor a turas ar ceal ag rá go raibh sí ag téarnamh ó chliseadh néarógach. Tháinig sí amach le ráiteas ar a shuíomh ag rá nach mbeadh aon cheolchoirm eile don bhliain de barr a neamhord dépholach. Agus tar éis scrios sí a shuíomh agus a Twitter. Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh Barbra Streisand I Nua Eabhrac I 1942 agus rugadh amhránaí Kelly Clarkson I Meiriceá ar an lá seo I 1982 agus seo chuid de a amhrán. Onto music news on this day In 1995 Oasis released 'Some Might Say' which went on to give the band their first UK No.1 single. The planned promo video for the song was cancelled due to Liam not turning up for the shoot. Instead, a makeshift video was created using footage from the 'Cigarettes & Alcohol', US 'Supersonic' and UK 'Whatever' videos. 2012 Sinead O'Connor cancelled the remaining dates of her world tour, saying she was still recovering from a "very serious breakdown". In a statement on her official website, she said she had scrapped all concerts this year due to her bipolar disorder. Reciban un cordial saludo. Desde Cali (Colombia), les habla Sergio Luis López, compartiéndoles un nuevo episodio de "Así la escuché yo..." In a special edition of my podcast this week, Craig Braddick has interviewed me to talk about growing up in the 1980s with Radio 1 and then with Radio 2 into the 90s and beyond, and how being a contestant on Blockbusters guided me towards my own broadcasting career. I talk about the significance of 1981 – the year I started listening to Radio 1 – and Bucks Fizz winning Eurovision and how, during my schooldays, the charts on a Sunday mattered in the school playground. We also talk about whether the presenters of the day really represented what was going on in the wider world and whether there was a patriarchal streak to broadcasting in that era. I talk about who my favourite presenters were in those days, including the impact of Adrian John who was a presenter in the 1980s who really understood his audience. We talk about my childhood diary entries and what it contains about my radio interests, and how I used to include information about the DJ and the artists who were on Top of the Pops each week. We also talk about DJ handovers both on radio and on TOTP, and of the presenters who perhaps didn't always get on (famously Tony Blackburn and John Peel). We reflect on whether for listeners there is a particular ‘golden era' and whether some of the Radio 1 DJs in the 80s thought that they were more important than the music, and we refer to the way some presenters were delegated. We talk about the way they were caricatured in the Smashie and Nicey mode. We then move on to discuss what happened with Radio 2's evolution in the 1980s and how different the station was in those days from today, and how David Hamilton's perceptions of the station in the 80s and now are diametrically opposite.  I talk about how much I enjoyed the guests on Gloria Hunniford's show on Radio 2 in the afternoons in the early 90s when I was at university. I refer to the line between education and entertainment as being blurred and how those in-depth conversations were an inspiration for my Nostalgia podcast. We talk about Jimmy Young's news and current affairs career and how the iconic JY was perhaps in some ways evoking a different era. We then speak about my experience of appearing as a contestant on Blockbusters and of meeting Bob Holness, and how it came as a surprise to my school peers that I got on the show in the first place. Craig askes me about my radio heroes, and I talk about Ed Stewart and how he died before he had a chance to read what I had written about him in a book I wrote about Christmas. We refer to Stewpot's radio personality and whether he would have fitted a different sort of genre of broadcasting. I reflect, too, on the female presenters who have influenced me, including Sarah Kennedy, and the contrast in broadcasting style with Chris Evans. I tell Craig about how I tend to gravitate to more introverted presenters and how radio and university teaching cross over in unexpected ways. Then, at the end of the interview Craig asks me what in ten years' time I think I am going to be listening to on the radio.

The latest episode of the podcast which asks; Whoops Scotties, Tasty Tarts Foster Grants or Allied For Carpets For You?Oh yes – it's back to the Eighventies we go, Pop-Crazed Youngsters, to a year where everyone was loaded into a cannon and fired into the dress-up box, or so we're led to believe. One look at Peter Powell – who has turned up looking like he's booked a week's holiday on a canalboat through Hoseasons – will remind you it wasn't quite like that. It's a boom time for TOTP, is early '81: they're pulling down Crossroads-level ratings week after week and they've got the Music TV field entirely to themselves, but – as this episode demonstrates – we're not in the Yellow Hurll era just yet, and there's a lot of dead wood to clear out. And, as the bill of fare tonight demonstrates, the Seventies are not done quite yet. Musicwise, it's a proper melange of young and old. Sharon Redd tries to be sexually overpowering in front of a grim tableau of gormless youths in visors doing the hand jive. The true icon of 1981 – The Man of Denim – spells out his five-year plan to tackle the social housing crisis in a special filmed broadcast. A punk lad gets dead excited at the sight of someone taking the stage in a PiL t-shirt, only to discover that it's Dave ‘No, the other one' Stewart. The show takes a severe turn towards the elderly when The Who – fresh from their new LP being absolutely coated down in the music papers – followed by Legs & Co ‘neath a giant Scotch egg, and an encore performance of that paint pot on Phil Collins' keyboard. But then! It's the fresh, virile sound of Bucks Fizz in their first ever TOTP performance, followed by an actual video that looks like Proper 1981, by Strange The Clock. Duran Duran pop up for a repeat of their TOTP debut, and then, Oh God, it's Toyah again, followed by Bryan Mirror and his new single, I Remember Johnny Lennon. Neil Kulkarni and Taylor Parkes join Al Needham in order to throw some bricks and petrol bombs at 1981, pausing along the way to discuss Masonic tombolas, Grange Hill tube station, the career of The Who in egg form, the damage that the American Syd Little wrought upon the charts, and – unfortunately – Breakfast television-related masturbatory shame. They call themselves The Fizz, but since Bobby G's version of the band haven't been in operation since 2018, I'm going with Bucks Fizz. In your face, Bobby G! Heads up! Jay is full of cold on this episode. At times it threatens to get out of control. The latest episode of the podcast which asks; if Steve Miller is in a consensual relationship, and keeps away from certain designated areas, and he's not just doing it to show off in front of his mates, is it acceptable in today's society to reach out and grab her? This episode, Pop-Crazed Youngsters, sees your panel – who are currently toting huge consignments of heroin around Leeds, swiftly climbing up the class system of Coventry and still getting over the terror of finding someone's undergarments in a sex-grafitti'd public toilet in St Pancras station – on the horns of a dilemma; on one hand, a premium-strength episode of Yellow Hurll-era TOTP. On the other, a World Cup semi-final. The latter doesn't kick off until we're 30 minutes into this episode, but at what point do our heroes break and succumb to the boot-on-ball surrender? And will Al have to watch all of this on a black-and-white portable with a coat hanger for an ariel, or will his Dad slink off to the pub and let him watch it downstairs?Musicwise, it's a game of two halves, with two landmark events occurring and a blizzard of Huge Eighties Things being introduced to us for the first time ever. Imagination are at the top of their flouncy, slinky game. Bruno's Dad lamps someone for ripping a speaker off his cab. Jeffrey Daniel reprises the Starman Moment of the Eighties and makes the Weetabix throw their Doc Martens in a skip. AC/DC get their cannons muffled. But just when you think this could be greatest TOTP episode ever, Jonathan King crashes in like Toni Schumacher on Patrick Battiston in order to curl off another dollop of rubbish American rammel (although he introduces the UK to Mr T. And Deeleyboppers). But then! Out of nowhere come the Good Germans – Trio – who produce one of the greatest TOTP performances ever, followed by Odyssey slamming home one of the greatest singles ever, and all is well. But oh dear, that ‘3' button is about to take a hammering as Bananarama pitch up in big nappies, Bucks Fizz take time out from bombing the Ruhr to cheat on each other, Captain Sensible ducks out of the pub to pretend to be the bastard son Worzel Gummidge and Toyah, and some magicians do their underwhelming pieces to the Steve Miller Band. Everything astoundingly life-affirmingly right and groin-punchingly wrong about early-Eighties TOTP is here, and it gets picked over in the usual manner.Rock Expert David Stubbs and Neil Kulkarni join Al Needham for a dance on the car roof of 1982, veering off on such tangents as being nestled against Mr C's packet, the Line-dancing community of Birmingham, being at a loss about what to say to Jimi Hendrix, wondering what ‘Eagle Farm Today' actually means, and Top Of The Pops getting Bobby Gee to fight some swans in a cage in a desperate attempt to keep watching BBC1. This is an episode VERY close to Neil's heart.  Bucks Fizz was his favourite band from the age of 7 onwards.  Famously formed to win the 1981 Eurovision song contest with Making Your Mind Up.  It's time to find out what Joel thought of this particular CD. Tracks are drawn from the 5 studio albums with a liberal smattering of the many singles released up to 1989, including a couple of their 3 number ones. Next episode is a bonus - we are aiming to listen to the brand new Adele 30 album. My YouTube channel: Pockenrop  Joel's YouTube Channel: FoxEatingNuggetsGaming

This week on Revenge of the 80s Radio, Frank Musker talks about the supergroup World Goes Round, whose 1989 album was never released -- until now. In the band are Musker, Elizabeth Lamers, Jeff Hull and Marty Walsh – four good friends who were well-respected songwriters, singers and musicians working in the LA music scene with artists ranging from Queen to Bucks Fizz to Jennifer Rush to Linda Ronstadt. Producer Tony Vacari (Billy Idol, Prince among many others), sowed the idea of putting out the self-titled album this year, over 30 years after its creation.Musker discusses how the project came together, the lineup, working on the music, the lyrics and putting it out today with a retro sound made for the recent resurgence of vinyl's popularity.
