Join us this week as we complete our 'Women of the Bible' Series with Mary the mother of Jesus. Every amazing woman that we have looked at in this series have played an important part in history to the lineage of Jesus. However, in this Holy Week and in the lead up to Easter, there is no one more crucial to the life of Jesus than a young teenage girl who was given the greatest responsibility by God; to carry His son for 9 months; give birth to him and bring him up as one of her own, until the time was right for his ministry leading to the greatest gift ever given on a cross. Luke 1:38 "Mary responded. " I am the Lord's servant. May everything you have said about me come true." And then the angel left her."
In honor of Christmas this week, today's episode is all about my favorite mom in the Bible: Mary! We tend to put her on a pedestal…this fabulous virgin, chosen by God for the most important role in the history of the world…but she was actually just a young woman…scared, humble, and wondering how she could ever measure up. But it’s not Mary that makes this story so incredible. It’s the way God interacts with Mary…through an angel…that is actually a powerful picture of how he views you and me. And it’s a message that we, as moms, really need to know in the very fabric of our being. So in this episode, I’m going to take you on a little journey through part of Luke chapter 1, right out of the Bible, and look at 6 life-changing truths from this age-old story that might just blow your mind. Key Takeaways from Episode 26: + Everything starts with identity. + Fear attacks identity, but courage isn't the answer...love is. + You were created to carry something. + It's not your strength that will make it happen. + The most important thing you can ever do is to say yes. Thanks for tuning in to today's episode of the Family Culture Podcast! Would you take a minute to subscribe, rate and review it? Also, come connect with me on Instagram @favoritefamilies!
When we meet Mary Magdalene, Jesus cast her demons out and she became one of His most faithful followers who stayed with Him through His death, burial and resurrection. Our demons today plague our minds through negativity, stress, anxiety and depression. We discuss some ways to overcome the mental demons!
From the first time Mary is mentioned in the Bible, her life is not the way she planned. Through everything, she praised God.
Another set of sisters who are constantly compared. Jesus didn't necessarily scold Martha for serving, we should all be servants for Christ. Sometimes we need to slow down from the distractions around us and sit at Jesus' feet.
As we finish up our Women in the Bible series, we end with Mary's unfailing faith. Mary, Ruth & the Proverbs 31 Woman have all shown us how important it is to follow God & have faith in His plan. Life is not going to go our way all the time, we will endure hardship & even when everything seems to be falling apart, GOD HAS A PLAN! These women set the best example on how we can remain strong in our faith & trust God fully. So, as always, grab your bible, your notebook & get ready to finish this series with a BANG!
Continuing our series we will look more into Mary as a mother. Her journey was hard. She not only had to figure out motherhood, but how to do so to the SON OF GOD! Mary sets a great example for us moms on how to be mothers from a place of faith. Grab your Bible, notebook & get ready to dive into motherhood from Mary's point of view!
Over a series of episodes we have been exploring different women of the bible. It is so important to look at these role models God has gives us & use them as an example of how we should live our lives. We previously learned about Proverbs 31 & Ruth. In this episode & the next couple we will discuss Mary & her story as a mother but also as a woman & child of God. Grab your notebook, bible & get ready for an episode about a woman you probably know but may not have looked into her entire story.
Mary Magdalene is arguably the second most important woman in the New Testament. Are the stories the church has told through the ages about her faithful to reality? This episode explores popular misconceptions about Mary Magdalene and seeks to uncover their origins.
The angel Gabriel is sent by God to inform Mary she is to give birth to the Messiah. Jesus will be conceived through the power of the Holy Spirit. Mary responds "let it be as you say". Jesus performs the first of his seven signs at the wedding at Cana. Mary reveals what it means to be a true disciple of Jesus. one of the most powerful scenes in the Bible Mary and the beloved disciple beneath the Good Friday cross of Jesus. taken together all three the Annunciation the wedding feast at Cana and Mary beneath the cross and Mosaic of Mary appears as the gift of womanhood Mary's assumption into heaven completes the mosaic. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/fr-william-maestri-overfed-and-undernourished/support
Today's episode is all about Mary and Martha, sisters, who with their brother Lazarus, were friends of Jesus. Mary wants to learn, but Martha wants help clearing the table. Martha is not afraid to confront Jesus when he is too late to save Lazarus -- but she still has faith. They are sisters, and while they are different, we can learn from both.
Mary brought the Savior into the world, and watched him die. She was a woman of faith, and courage; she experienced joy and grief. After Jesus ascended into heaven, she was a member of the early church. In this episode, we discuss how Mary fits into our theology, and her impact on the world.
Mary was a witness to the birth and death of her Son, our Savior . Mary was favored, the Lord is with her. . “And the angel came to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you.”” Luke 1:28 CSB . Imagine being a young finance’ planning your wedding and boom this happens. This does not make you feel favored with the type of message. You are receiving. You have to tell your fiancée that how I’m pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Then only to have your son be murdered for all of humanity . What kind of message is this? “But she was deeply troubled by this statement, wondering what kind of greeting this could be.” Luke 1:29 CSB . The Ultimate Gender Reveal.. ITS A KING . Mother of the King “Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end.”” Luke 1:31-33 CSB . ““I am the Lord’s servant,” said Mary. “May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel left her.” Luke 1:38 CSB . Lessons from Mary Trust the plans of GOD over your life. Mary was planning to get married and live her new life with her husband. And there was a miraculous change of plans. Gods’ favor doesn’t mean fame and riches. He could give your humble favor. Don’t doubt the sovereignty of God. If God can put a baby into a young woman by His Holy Spirit Power, HE CAN DO ANYTHING! What do we know about Mary Magdalene: She was healed by Jesus because she was demon possessed. “and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary, called Magdalene (seven demons had come out of her);”Luke 8:2 CSB She supported the work of Christ “Afterward he was traveling from one town and village to another, preaching and telling the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him,” Luke 8:1 CSB She was at the cross when Jesus was killed “Many women who had followed Jesus from Galilee and looked after him were there, watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.” Matthew 27:55-56 CSB She saw Jesus laid in the tomb “Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were seated there, facing the tomb.” Matthew 27:61 CSB She was the first to experience the resurrection “Early on the first day of the week, after he had risen, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.” Mark 16:9 CSB . “Just then Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” They came up, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. Then Jesus told them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there.”” Matthew 28:9-10 . So her faith had to be on fire. She witnessed both the death and resurrection of Christ. . What we learn from Mary Magdalene: We are to support the work of Christ. Women should have a role in ministry and sharing the gospel. We can witness the gospel by spending time with Jesus. We can watch from the distance of our laps as we read His Word. We can see that evidence of His resurrection in the Holy Spirit that he has left for us. We can wait patiently at the foot and worship as we wait to see Him on that glorious day.
“While they were traveling, he entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s feet and was listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand.” The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her.”” Luke 10:38-42 CSB . If Jesus was on the way to your house what would you be doing? Mary was in position. She was ready to hear from Jesus. She was focused on Him. She was listening. . Martha was serving but distracted. She was multitasking. As women, we are the queens of multitasking . Martha was actually doing a good thing by preparing for Jesus. We can be actually doing great things for Jesus and still be distracted from Jesus. . He wants to serve, but he also wants you to sit. Your serving shouldn’t take away from the personal time alone with Him. . So Martha complains to Jesus about what she felt like was lack on her sister’s behalf. . Jesus responds: You're worried and upset about many things. To be anxious, troubled with cares. Upset-disturb (bothered) . He tells her there is one thing to be concerned about and Mary chose that. . He was that one thing. . “My choice is you, GOD, first and only. And now I find I’m your choice! Psalm 16:5-6 MSG “I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking him in his temple.” Psalms 27:4 CSB “When Jesus heard this, he told him, “You still lack one thing: Sell all you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”” Luke 18:22 CSB What can we learn from these two women : Be like Mary, sit at the feet of Jesus everyday and watch your Martha spirit start to diminish. When you are in the Martha spirit of doing even when its good, remember it rather have a personal relationship with you than you doing all the things. Be unbothered like Mary. Mary was focused and positioned. She was right where she wanted and needed to be. Choose Jesus as your one thing. Make him first, desire to meet at his feet, gaze on his beauty and his word, seeking home daily. Get rid of the things and people who is keeping you from the one thing. Digest? Who do you identify most with Mary or Martha? If you are in the Martha spirit of doing , how can you release that spirit and become more like Mary? Are you bothered? Maybe because you are doing too much? What need to let go to put Jesus in the position of 1? The Chew: Sit then serve
Most of the people we see as Biblical heroes were nobodies until they stepped up and obeyed God. In the first episode of this new Grow on the Go podcast series, Donna and Kevann chat about the miraculous and mundane aspects of the Christmas story. They discuss all the reasons Mary could have said no to God and why it makes her obedience all the more astounding. From Mary we learn that our obedience is in direct proportion to how well we know God. http://media.blubrry.com/faithstrongtoday/p/fst.mc.tritondigital.com/GROW_ON_THE_GO_P/media/GOTG-S04E13-Obedient_Nobodies_Mary_dec03-19.mp3
Can you imagine: an angel appears and tells you that you will be pregnant while you’re engaged and a virgin! Or you find out your fiancé is pregnant while you’ve never even slept together! How would you respond? In this sermon Pastor Sebastiaan van Wessem speaks about two very special people from the Bible: Mary and Joseph!
Aaron Stevens brings us the lesson on this Mother's Day Sunday. He tells us about the most well know mother in the Bible Mary, and how we can learn from the strength she showed.
Satan uses fear to block the glory of God. There is glory beyond our fears when we trust, believe and have faith in Jesus. We can either choose fear and failure or faith and glory. Glory is defined as a growing perception of the infinite goodness and love of the absolute power and majesty of God. Getting to glory requires us to face our fears and run toward them. We can then begin comparing our stories with what we see in the Bible. We see these fear to glory stories through out the Bible - Mary and the birth of Jesus (Luke 1:46-55); Zachariah and the naming of John the Baptist (Luke 1:76-79); the men and the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:16-18); and Moses and the parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 14:13-14). You too can believe there is God's glory behind your fears because no word of God will ever fail (Luke 1:37). Choose to believe the better story.
The Magnificat: Mary’s Song of Glory Interestingly, one of the most asked (or sung) questions every Christmas is… Mary, did you know? And in this sermon we get the answer! Here we look at one of the most famous passages in the Bible: Mary’s Magnificat, or song of majesty and glory. It is a beautiful, powerful song…
