On this episode of Catholic in America, Fr. Michael Nixon and Fr. Tom Dillon discuss the recent horrific attack on Israel, Israel's response, and a Catholic Christian response.
A special episode of Beacon of Truth as Dynamic Deacon Harold addresses a Catholic approach to racism from one of his LIVE events at Benedictine College.
Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers presents a history of racism in the Catholic Church, showing Catholics can begin at the parish grassroots level to change minds and hearts one by one.
As we mark Black History Month, Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers offers his Catholic take on racism, what's wrong with critical race theory, and why a relationship with Jesus is what matters most. With Ash Wednesday kicking off the penitential season of Lent next week on February 14, the TCA team talks the true story behind St. Valentine, and how we can mark the day in a unique and meaningful way. Father Roger Landry also offers an inspiring homily as we mark World Day of Marriage on Sunday. Catch the show every Saturday at 7amET/5pmET on EWTN radio!
Will Wright is joined by Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers who discusses his book 'Building a Civilization of Love' and addresses the topics of prejudice, racism, language, and identity in Christ. He emphasizes the importance of love and seeing the image of God in others as the solution to racial division. Deacon Harold also explores the distinction between prejudice and racism, and the need for self-reflection and empathy to overcome prejudice. He discusses the role of the Catholic Church in addressing racial issues and the importance of an eschatological perspective. Additionally, he examines critical race theory, liberation theology, and the Black Lives Matter movement in relation to the Catholic faith. In this conversation, Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers discusses the agenda of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and its impact on the nuclear family. He also highlights the high abortion rate among black women and the eugenicist history of Planned Parenthood. Deacon Harold challenges communities of color to address internal issues and embrace their faith to bring healing and reconciliation. He advocates for using inclusive terms like 'people of color' instead of 'African American' and suggests practical steps for transcending race, such as appreciating cultural diversity and promoting conversation. Deacon Harold emphasizes the importance of incorporating saints of color in Catholic education and worship, and he praises the Catholic Church for its focus on Jesus Christ and the gospel in addressing racial issues. The Catholic Response to War in the Holy Land by Fr. Aaron M. Williams
The Synod on Synodality is in full swing, and so OnePeterFive Editor Timothy Flanders and Crisis Magazine Editor Eric Sammons will discuss what's going on, and what practical things Catholics can do in response.
To love your neighbor, you must know your neighbor. And to know your neighbor, you often times have to go beyond the mind you have. The Greek word for conversion, metanoia, means just that: “to go beyond the mind you have”, so that loving your neighbor usually requires some kind of conversion. Conversions are often uncomfortable and even painful. It can be hard but it can also be liberating and healing to let go of what you assumed to be true so as to accept a little more of what is actually true, especially what has been and is actually true for someone else––namely, your neighbor.A new narrative podcast series called The Ark and the Dove seeks to allow listeners to grow in knowledge of their neighbors in the Catholic Church and in the United States. The way it does that is by investigating the complex dynamics of race and religion in America through the lens of the Black Catholic Church. It holds together both broad issues of race and religion with local, particular stories of specific communities, parishes, and schools, especially within the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Our episode today focuses on The Ark and the Dove, with my guest and the podcast's co-creator, Edward Herrera. In addition to his work on The Ark and the Dove, Edward Herrera is the Executive Director of the Institute for Evangelization in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.Follow-up Resources:The Ark and the Dove podcast series“The Catholic Response to the Sin of Racism, with Gloria Purvis,” podcast episode via Church Life Today“Black Lives and the Preferential Option for the Poor” by John Cavadini, via Church Life JournalThis episode is sponsored by: Dr. Michael Dauphinais, https://catholic-theology-show.castos.com/Church Life Today is a partnership between the McGrath Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame and OSV Podcasts from Our Sunday Visitor. If you and your spouse are struggling with infertility, you know how difficult of a cross it can be. The pain can be overbearing, and it can feel like a bad dream that won't end. You might wonder why God allows this cross and where to go from here. John Morales speaks with Dr. Joseph and Dr. Marie Meaney about this deeply personal topic. The couple shares their own journey, highlighting the shock and cross they faced when discovering they couldn't conceive naturally. Their story underscores the emotional impact and existential questions that arise when parenthood doesn't unfold as expected. Dr. Marie, drawing from her experience and her book "When Expecting Doesn't Happen: Turning Infertility into a Journey of Hope," reflects on the emotional turmoil they went through. She candidly discusses the lack of resources during their own struggle. Her passion to help others navigate this often-overlooked territory shines through as she emphasizes that the infertility journey, though intensely challenging, can lead to renewal and growth. Dr. Joseph encourages listeners to understand that infertility is a medical challenge and not a form of divine punishment. Instead, he highlights that it can become an opportunity for spiritual renewal, deepening one's faith and trust in God's plan. The Meaney couple stresses the importance of unity between spouses during this time, offering insights into how they coped with differing responses and encouraged open communication. The conversation turns to the Catholic Church's perspective on infertility treatments, particularly in vitro fertilization (IVF). Dr. Joseph explains the Church's stance, noting that IVF, which replaces the marital act and creates embryos outside the womb, is ethically problematic due to its disregard for the dignity of human life and its consequences on individuals and relationships. He contrasts this with alternative approaches like the Creighton method and treatments offered by the Pope Paul VI Institute, emphasizing their success rates and alignment with Catholic principles.
Michael Sheedy, FCCB's executive director, and Christie Arnold, associate for social concerns and respect life, discuss a response to immigration that is based in scripture, Catholic teaching, and respect for human dignity. Immigration policy has been a controversial topic, especially here in Florida where SB 1718 was recently signed into law. Michael and Christie unpack the potential consequences and legal challenges surrounding this new legislation.

In this episode, Stella & Sasha explore the different kinds of ways people engage in the gender debates. You will hear them touch on the various kinds of characters and/or archetypes of people who imbed themselves deeply into the “gender world.” And you may also notice that there are many varieties of voices not referenced as well. Today's episode takes shape a little differently than a typical Gender: A Wider Lens conversation in that they cover so many categories all at once, but at a very light level, and don't have the opportunity to go too far in-depth into any of the concepts touched on. This discussion barely begins to scratch the surface of all there is to talk about here.Upon reflection after recording, Sasha shares her sense of apprehension in releasing the episode at all, only to come to the conclusion that in fact, these ideas require much more expansive exploration, after all. Stella acknowledges that there's no denying the vastly compelling nature of the subject of gender and digs into the tendency for some individuals to become overly fixated on gender-related topics. This episode emphasizes that while engaging in gender debates can be important, it's essential to assess one's level of involvement with its alignment to service to oneself, one's community, and one's family in productive and healthy ways. Excessive preoccupation with gender can be distressing for some individuals who never intended to be consumed by it, so it's important to seek balance, remain mindful, and sustain intellectual curiosity without neglecting emotional well-being.In this episode, you will hear Sasha & Stella speak about “Killarney,” in reference to Genspect's: The Bigger Picture conference. FCCB's Ken Kniepmann, associate for health, and Michael Barrett, associate for education address how Catholics can provide a solid anthropological, scientific and pastoral response, especially in cases or environments where youth are influenced or affected by these issues.
