An in-depth conversation with Dean Chandler. The Wellington-based singer/songwriter released his self-titled debut album in the early/mid-00s and it featured guest appearances by Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Bic Runga, Larry Campbell and was produced by Brady Blade. The album ran its course and disappeared. It's largely forgotten. And Dean has full time employment far away from the music industry. We revisited his story and how all of this happened.

Dreamers2Makers Podcast | Curious People That Do Extraordinary Things (EP011) Guest: Pastor Brady Blade Senior Hosted by Mike Dawson (Songwriter, Composer, STEAM Advocate) Today’s guest is Pastor Brady Blade. He’s best known for his 58 year ministry at the Zion Baptist Church in Shreveport Louisiana and founding the legendary gospel music group The Hallelujah Train. He’s the husband of Dorthy Blade and the father of world renowned musicians Brady and Brian Blade. It is not an understatement to state that the Blade family under the parenting of Brady and Dorthy Blade have become an artistic, musical, and inspirational tour de force equal to the Marsalis and Neville families. This is one of three interviews that features the men of the Blade musical family. I had originally planned to conduct one interview with my friend Brady Blade Junior during a return to his childhood home in Shreveport in May 2019. While interviewing Brady Jr., he suggested that I interview his Dad, Brady Senior. So after I wrapped the interview with Brady Junior, I rushed across town and found myself in Pastor Blade’s office surrounded by guitars, amplifiers, and books spilling from the many bookcases My interview covered many subjects and details about his life as Pastor at the Zion Baptist Church and as singer/bass player leading The Hallelujah Train gospel group. It was one of the highest honors of my life to interview Pastor Blade. Brian Blade burst on the scene in the early 90s and has since distinguished himself as one of the all time greats. Brian met with Joe in Chicago to discuss: his musical beginnings in church; how he developed his gifts as an artist; what he learned from his older brother, drummer Brady Blade; working with iconoclasts ranging from Joni Mitchell to Wayne Shorter; being “in the moment, almost to a fault”; reuniting with his childhood sweetheart after nearly 30 years apart; and how within any one thing, everything else exists. Musical mythology is rife with stories of troubled genius. As an antidote, here’s a conversation with a thoroughly joyful genius.

With only two Virginia shows since our last episode, there are fewer shows to talk about (and even fewer songs), but plenty of speculation to bandy about. Brady Blade lets one slip on another podcast that sets the community ablaze regarding a possible new Dave solo effort in 2017. The battle for the top of the Setlist Game table gets even hotter, and we take your questions!
Drummer and Producer Brady Blade is the kind of guy we should all learn from. He’s a total pro, a top musician and a humble, grounded and generous human being. We discuss is work with Emmylou Harris, Dave Matthews, Al Green, a great story about U2s management, playing on David Letterman and a new project with Dave Matthews and Jacob Dylan. Plus find out why you should never eat his mashed potatoes!
