In 1993, former Juice Crew member Masta Ace left Cold Chillin records and signed with Delicious Vinyl. Mad at gangsta rap, the way his career was going, and the direction hip-hop was headed at the time, Ace put his new crew together called Masta Ace Incorporated, releasing the SlaughtaHouse as the groups debut album. The album is primarily a Masta Ace album, but members Lord Digga, Paula Perry, Eyce Uneek, Rokkdiesel and Whitch Doc all contribute by either producing the hard dark sound the album is known for or lyrically. This album not only is severely underrated, but Masta Ace is in peak form with his lyrics and flow, making this one of the best albums in 1993.https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8sFOYlX5ZGs&_r=1 https://www.instagram.com/str8clippa/profilecard/?igsh=MXVpbmR3bmwweWNxOQ== https://www.facebook.com/share/15PhZhgYUb/?mibextid=wwXIfr

These throwback Episodes initially aired public but were removed as a result of the change in plans of the audio service we were using before. Now we are happy to share these insightful interviews which began the AUDIO journey of Artist Interviews with Out Da Box Radio. Original Show Description: Out Da Box Radio is happy to bring you a brand new interview with emcee’s Frank Nitt and Illa J also known as the “Yancey Boys”. The group consists of the previous mentioned emcees, alongside the late Legendary Artist “J. Dilla” as the prime Producer. We were fortunate to speak with both Frank and Illa on a number of topics which included their new album “Sunset Blvd”, as well as the influence and impact their great brother “J. Dilla” had on them. Frank Nitt also took the time to share some insight into how the collaborations came about for the album, as well as the mission him and Illa set out to accomplish with the music. He took a moment to also speak on his recent solo releases. One of them, being a collaborative project with producer extraordinaire “Madlib” and expounded on what it was like working with him. He even spoke on the similarities between Madlib and Dilla, and gave some insight into how Dilla related to Lib, being an admirer of the earlier “Lootpack” records. We also got a chance to hear both artists speak on memorable moments shared with Dilla while out in L.A. As the interview came to a close, both artists delved briefly into their future goals as well as the next step for the group and the label Delicious Vinyl. Overall, I had a great time speaking with Frank and Illa J. They had a very happy and humble vibe during the interview, which made for a successful flowing conversation. Please take the time to listen and definitely feel free to share if you like what you hear. We hope you enjoy!
We all too often think of growing old as a bad thing. Perhaps we confuse diminished abilities with diminished value. Our life is too often considered as being “over” when we get old. Music executive Adrian Miller, challenges this perception stating that “we calibrate over as gray and old.” His image of the passage of time is much different. He directs us to craft a perception of life that honors and supports growing old at every stage of one's life. He notes that without elders' wisdom present in his early life, his success would not be what it is today. Miller’s drive to honor the lives of the elderly, offers us an opportunity to rethink and recognize those who impacted our lives in so many ways. He offers that we can and should give back, whether it's financial support or simply our time. Showing how much you care and value our aged mentors is one of life’s greatest treasures. "The writing is in front of you and on the wall. Whether or not you look at it or evaluate the value of that is on you as an individual." - Adrian L. Miller Adrian L. Miller is an American music entertainment executive, manager, and executive producer, a notable manager of both Oscar and Grammy award nominated and winning artist Anderson Paak, Mereba and NxWorries. Miller has diversified his portfolio as a label owner, publisher, songwriter, A&R/talent scout, executive producer, and artist manager. Recently he has teamed up with Michael Ross (co-founder of the label Delicious Vinyl), together with Leslie Cooney, they started the label reboot now called Delicious Vinyl Island. Currently, his work is in music supervision/music consulting for film and television projects include RZA's, Cut Throat City (Patriot Pictures) and the series Wu-Tang: An American Saga (Hulu) and F. Gary Gray's Men in Black: International (Sony). He has received the Cannes Lion Award for his work on the 2018 Apple Music Home Pod commercial with Spike Jones. Adrian created the marketing research company, Xyion, that can trend forecast change in our marketplace. Through previous relationships and having run several indie start-ups, Xyion provides top tier placement for the clients, offering over two decades of experience and endless creative opportunities. Miller has received several RIAA certifications for gold and platinum sales success in music, and in 2019 the Grammy Award for best rap performance, "Bubblin" by Anderson .Paak.[1][2][3] Topics we discuss: Deep conversation on how we treat our elders Ideas to show respect Current cultural climate on elders Treating others with dignity How to assess wisdom How to assess the value of self and others Childhood in Leimert Park The Museum of Black and it's influence Meeting your heroes His story about Anita Baker Knowing we all won't be here forever celebrating life References: Xyion RIAA Certifications Wu Tang American Saga Steve Rifkind Anita Baker 'The Bowl' in LA Malcolm Casselle Credits: Lead editor + Producer: Ruf Holmes Music: Main Theme: "Eaze Does It" by Shye Eaze and DJ Rufbeats, a More In Common Podcast Exclusive. Host Rich Tupica talks with The Angel about her new single on LaunchLeft, "Words Like Daggers" (featuring Jhelisa). The cinematic new music video for the track (directed by Mark Pellington, Sergio Pinheiro and Sweeten) is streamed here. In this episode, The Angel talks about her long career in the music, film and television industries, including work with The Pharcyde and many others. A Brooklyn native, she has established a unique voice as a woman in a male dominated industry, combining her skills as a record producer, recording artist (The Angel, 60 Channels), remixer and composer. Critically acclaimed for pioneering an eclectic sound, The Angel has had the opportunity to incorporate many diverse flavors into her records as well as TV and film compositions, since relocating to Los Angeles from her adoptive city of London. It was signing to record label, Delicious Vinyl, that brought The Angel to Los Angeles in the nineties. Her distinctive blend of hip hop, dub, jazz, soul and later drum ‘n bass into her recordings, led to her groundbreaking remixes for The Pharcyde, Blue Note’s Donald Byrd and productions for Grammy nominee, Mystic to name a few. And to this day, she is known for blending musical genres with a healthy dose of irreverence, using both traditional and more contemporary instrumentation. Featured on the cover of the LA Weekly, The Angel was described as “fiercely independent”… thinking outside the box creatively, while establishing herself as a trendsetter within the mainstream.
The Lakers were sluggish early, but LeBron James carried them to halftime, and then combined with Anthony Davis to pull away from the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 3 of their first round NBA Playoffs series in the Orlando Bubble. James and Davis both put up big stat lines, but the Lakers also received significant contributions from Alex Caruso, who played arguably his best game as a Laker, and (in the second half, at least) Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Andy and Brian break it all down, asking if the Lakers finally looked like a championship caliber team. What does it mean that Caruso played like a traditional point guard? That LeBron started scoring? And this week, how will remembrances of Kobe Bryant impact them? A Land O'Lakers Live episode recorded after Game 3 Saturday night. Thanks to Delicious Pizza for the sponsorship, and Delicious Vinyl for the music.

Lee Michaels is very much our concentration point this week. However, with the seasons changing its now a fitting time to play Twain. Very much autumnal in feel, the indie folk outfit are our bookending buccaneers this week. Tobin has expert pedigree in delivering New Music nuggets, so we very much look forward to Twain. Plus we'll learn more about Lee Michaels and his plagiarism battle later on. Tobin once again plays his guessing game music shenanigans with The Marcus King Band. Such a full and mature sounding frontman it's hard to imagine. Quite obviously steeped in blues heritage Marcus King delivers by the bucket load and foxes Richard. New Music this week is curated by Richard as Tobin once again jets around Europe without such a thought for souvenirs or cheap, awful booze reminders. And as such, Richard brings us Chromatics' cover of one of Simon and Garfunkel's most well loved songs. It's eerie, it's cold, haunting and steeped in retrospective vibes. He later moved to San Francisco and cut his first solo album in 1967 with A&M Records - Carnival of Life. A crucial turning point in this story. His bare bones performances of just a Hammond organ and "Frosty" (Bartholomew Eugene Smith-Frost - strangely sharing the same middle name of Eugene as Lee Michaels) on drums. Frosty's bare handed technique was also unusual and proved to be an inspiration to John Bonham. After cutting his first LP with A&M Records Lee Michaels went mainly unnoticed in the music industry. That is until his fifth LP arrived - entitled 5th. Lee Michaels finally achieved commercial success and recorded another 2 LPs with A&M. Michaels moved to Columbia Records in 1973 but failed to generate a repeat of his success with A&M. Later career By the end of the 1970s Lee Michaels had more or less retired from the music industry. However, several rights usage disputes arose in the early 1990s after A&M granted licenses to Delicious Vinyl for Young MC to use samples from several of Michaels' tracks. After regaining full rights to his music from A&M, Lee Michaels granted licenses to Rhino Records to release several of his LPs over the years. In February 2016 Manifesto Records released his entire A&M recordings on vinyl.

In this podcast made in collaboration with Phillips, Scott Nussbaum, head of 20th Century and Contemporary Art at Phillips, New York and Fred Hoffman, curator of a seminal Basquiat retrospective and author of The Art of Jean-Michel Basquiat, talk about Matt Dike's relationship to the artist, their work together in Los Angeles in the 1980s, their friendship around music and the gifts of art Basquiat made to Dike. Chief among those gifts was the self portrait painted on two doors and a panel that will be sold during Phillips May 16th Evening sale in New York. Moved directly from Basquiat's studio to Dike's home, the work is a rare example of Basquiat's art never to have been sold before, as Fred Hoffman explains in his catalogue essay for Phillips: "As one of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s most compelling depictions of himself, Self Portrait, 1983 presents a metaphysical subject on two related panels. The full-length representation of the artist is juxtaposed with an adjacent panel portraying both his personal incantation, “To Repel Ghosts”, and his characterization of the passage from the material to the eternal. Self Portrait is unique, having been executed on two found doors, one which also includes an attached plywood panel. This singular painting was executed in Venice, California sometime in 1983 at New City Editions, the print studio where Basquiat produced his now acclaimed silkscreen works, Tuxedo, 1983, Untitled, 1983 and Back of the Neck, 1983. The creation of this painting is recorded in filmmaker Tamra Davis’ acclaimed documentary, The Radiant Child, possibly the only extant film documentation of Basquiat working on a painting. As conveyed to the author by Tamra Davis, after having completed the work, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Tamra Davis moved the work to the studio of Matt Dike in West Hollywood. The work is also documented in Tamra Davis’ 1988 promotional video for Matt Dike’s record label Delicious Vinyl, in which Matt Dike and his business partner Mike Ross are filmed sitting on a couch with Self Portrait in the background."

The Pharcyde - Runnin' An Extended Edit By Mr Turner The Pharcyde (pronounced "far side") is an American alternative hip hop group, formed in 1989, from South Central Los Angeles. The original four members of the group are Imani (Emandu Wilcox), Slimkid3 (Trevant Hardson), Bootie Brown (Romye Robinson), and Fatlip (Derrick Stewart). DJ Mark Luv was the group's first disc jockey (DJ), followed by producer J-Swift and then J Dilla.[citation needed] The group is perhaps best known for the hit singles "Drop", "Passin' Me By" and "Runnin'", as well as their first album, Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde (1992). The group continues to tour and record, both collaboratively and in solo projects—the most recent being Hardson's collaborative EP with the award-winning DJ Nu-Mark (of Jurassic 5) released in 2014 on Delicious Vinyl

"Paula Perry"Female hip-hop MC from Brooklyn, NY. People first heard Paula Perry as a member of Masta Ace, INC, where she proved to be far more than simply a token female crew member. She struck out on her own with her debut single "Paula's Jam," which was a monster underground hit. And she soon released a slew of singles, including "Extra, Extra" produced by Premier. She eventually wound up on Motown Records, but her album, Tales From Fort Knox, got lost in the system. Life and work. Paula Perry grew up in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, an area that at the time consisted mainly of prefabricated blocks of social housing (so-called projects ). It was discovered by rapper Uneek, also from Brooklyn, who introduced her to Masta Ace . In 1992, with Masta Ace, Perry recorded a song called Kick It On The One , intended for the second solo album by Masta Ace, Shelf Life . However, since Masta Ace overcame with his label Cold Chillin ', there was no longer the release of this album. The already completed songs were released years later on two EPs. The recorded with Paula Perry song is located on the first of these two discs, on Shelf Life Vol. 1 , a 2013 published and limited to 300 copies pressing on Chopped Herring Records. After separating from Cold Chillin 'Masta Ace founded the Masta Ace Incorporated crew (Masta Ace, INC.) And joined the group on the label Delicious Vinyl. Paula Perry was also included in the crew. Together, the album SlaughtaHouse was released in 1993. On the occasion of the tenth birthday of the video music show Video Music Box , which started in 1983, Paula Perry and Masta Ace were able to perform their song Who You Jackin from the SlaughtaHouse album live. After Perry had canceled an early tour of the group because she preferred her own professional career of uncertain music career, she then toured regularly with Masta Ace, INC. By her own admission, she received only for these tour performances money from the record label, but not for their participation in the albums. [1]Two years later, in 1995, the crew released the second album called Sittin 'On Chrome . This made it to # 19 on the Billboard Top R & B / Rap album charts and remained in the Billboard Top 200 for months. In 1996, Paula Perry released her first 12 " solo as a solo artist entitled Paula's Jam (on Loose Cannon Records, a 1994-96 imprint of PolyGram Records, whose best-known artist was Buju Banton ). The song received in the music press partly outstanding reviews. In a review it was said:24-year-old Brooklynite Paula Perry fluted glasses of Cristal. "" If we were judging female MCs these days on verbal skills instead of puny poetry, then Lil 'Kim and Foxy Brown would revert to their given names and serve. ""If rappers were to be judged on their verbal abilities and not on their sexualized gutter language, Lil 'Kim and Foxy Brown would have to end their careers (" take their bourgeois name back ") and 24-year-old Paula Perry from Brooklyn would be champagne (" Cristal ") a champagne brand) in crystal glasses. "- Charles Aaron : in the music magazine Spin , issue February 1997, p. 92It was followed in 1998 by the song Down To Die For This (on the label Motown ) as well as collaborations with the Lost Boyz ( The BQE ) and other rappers (Nicki D, Paula Perry, Rah Digga , Heather B , Precious P & Bahamadia - Six-pack ).With the single produced by DJ Premier and recorded at the D & D Studios in New York , Extra !! (in 1998 on Motown) in the style of an extra page of the fictional newspaper Fort Greene Chronicles on her already completed and raring album titled Tales From Fort Knox (the title is a nod to her birthplace Fort Greene, Brooklyn) be pointed out. The song was played internationally on the radio and was also mentioned in the German music press:"Refined by the golden producer hands DJ Premiers, this track delights Paula Perry's debut album [...] from the very first second. The ingenious mixture of hypnotic minimal beats, a gripping funk groove and a voice from which one would like to be told a few stories, captivates sustainably. "- Norbert Schiegl : in the music magazine JUICE , issue 5-1998, p. 82However, the aforementioned album was never released, allegedly because the label (Mad Sounds Recordings, an existing in the 1990s and specialized in hip-hop sublabel Motown ) intended for the release and promotion funds instead for an album by Queen Latifah ( Order In The Court ) used. Most promo CDs of the 17-song album were destroyed by the label, although there had already been reviews in music magazines. Allegedly, there are only fewer than ten copies today, so that individual promo CDs of the album are traded on the Internet at top prices. In addition to the previously published single tracks, the album contained productions of Easy Mo Bee , Clark Kent and Domingo. Guests included Kelly Price and Perry's mentor, Masta Ace, and Que 45, with whom she has a son. Masta Ace produced under the pseudonym Ase One also four songs of the album. Two years later appeared with Y'All Chickens Make Me Laugh another 12 "of the artist under her real name (this time on the label Fully Blown Recordings), which was also played internationally on the radio. One last solo release available on a physical sound carrier was the 12 " I'm So Ghetto / Watch Ya Head , released under the pseudonym" The God Mommie "(in 2003 via Familliar Faces Records). Since then, Paula Perry came out only on the Internet published mixtapes ( Paula Perry The Godmommy, 6 , 2009, and Take Another Shot At It , 2012), as well as through short videos in which she directed herself.Although Paula Perry made a name for herself in her hip-hop underground through her early songs ( Paula's Jam and Extra, Extra !! were underground hits and made it into the Hot R & B Singles of the Billboard charts), she finished her Career as a musician, without ever having made the commercial breakthrough as a solo artist. Episode 167 - Jesse Itzler used to leave funny outgoing messages on his answering machine back in college. They were so good , they went viral, the old school way. Pre-Internet, people would tell friends, who would tell friends, who would tell more friends. This led him to a record deal with Delicious Vinyl. To many people, landing a record deal is THE dream. Like, we got a DEAL, MAN! This, however, was just the beginning for Jesse. Jesse and Matt discuss how landing this deal led a lot of cool business doings in Itzler's life including: Creating music and video content for NBA (and other sports) teams. Co founding Marquis Jets, the first private jet company allowing customers to "rent" versus "own". Becoming part owner of The Atlanta Hawks There is a lot to be learned in this episode from a successful man who doesn't seem to stress about any of it. (They ran out of time before Matt could even ask about co-founding Zico Water or Jesse's new book "Living with a Seal", so hopefully there will be a part two.) Today's episode is sponsored by Rugged Maniac. Code ORM5 saves you $5 off all 2016 locations. It is also sponsored by Udder Mud Run. August 6th, 2016 in Macon, Georgia. On May 2, 1995, Masta Ace Incorporated released their 2nd album, Sittin' on Chrome. On The Library, Masta Ace reflects back on that album 20 years later. "I think Sitting on Chrome was the album that should have been the most commercially successful because that was the intention. When we went into the studio to make that album, it was based on the success of one song, "Born to Roll." That song took off like nobody expected. One of those records that nobody saw coming even Delicious Vinyl...." The story of MellowManAce begins in Cuba… Born under communism in Cuba, MellowManAce became his families' ticket to freedom and passport to the United States. At that time in Cuba, having a child meant a family became eligible for an exit visa. “I was the third born and my number hit the lotto, although we didn't get to leave until four years later due to politics. My family gives me the credit for being here enjoying our freedom in the U.S.” Upon arriving in America, the family was greeted in Miami, moved to New Jersey and ended up in South Gate, California on Cypress Avenue where it all began. MellowMan first got into rap music in 1983 after hearing The Treacherous Three for the first time. When I first heard rap, I knew I had found my calling.” Writing as many rhymes as he could and cutting demos with his brother Sen Dog and B-Real, he still hadn't found his exact niche within Hip-Hop. With a lot of persistence and hard work, he perfected his bilingual style. “I was ecstatic to realize I could fulfill my dreams and represent for my Latino people all in one!” Ulpiano Sergio Reyes (MellowManAce) and older brother Senen Reyes (Sen Dog) formed a rap quartet DVX (Devastating Vocal Xcellence) with Lawrence Muggerud (DJ Muggs) and Louis Freese (B-Real). After a few years MellowMan was signed by Delicious Vinyl and then Capitol Records to launch a solo career and sell over more than 2 million units worldwide. The remaining three members formed the group Cypress Hill, Host @ericzuley
This is another portion of the deskmix of the "shinydiscoball" soundtrack, to be released shortly. This portion is set 2, 1st song. Another portion is on my Soundcloud account. This is not finished, as you can hear there are still imperfections that will be fixed in the final release. It features two of my current faves, Pharcyde, and Canadian songstress Anjulie. Few outside canada know of her and her music, but its great stuff!! Add a bit of Donna and another 70's legendary group Hall and Oates, and voila - modern disco house! The Shinydiscoball soundtrack is just under 55 minutes and includes all the greatest artists ever under one shiny disco ball. hehe. enjoy and hey, leave some feedback to help us fine tune the final mix. www.mellowmanace.com Also one half of the new group @TheZzyzzx with my son @CazalOrganism Havana-born Ulpiano Sergio Reyes (Mellow Man Ace) and older brother Senen Reyes (Sen Dog) formed a rap quartet DVX (Devastating Vocal Xcellence) with Lawrence Muggerud (DJ Muggs) and Louis Freese (B-Real). After a few years Mellow Man was signed by Delicious Vinyl and then Capitol Records to launch a solo career. The remaining three members formed the group Cypress Hill, named after Cypress Avenue , the street in South Gate where they all grew up. With the debut of his first LP entitled Escape From Havana on Capitol Records, Mellow Man created a unique style of rap that traded off between his native tongue Spanish and English, he called it “Spanglish”. Mellow would not only be the creator of “Spanglish” and Spanish rap, but also the first Latin rap artist to reach Gold and Platinum sales in the U.S. and Latin America . This achievement would open a non-existent door for a host of other groups such as Control Machete, Big Pun, Fat Joe and The Beatnuts to name a few. A 1 hit; “Mentírosa” (Liar) became the recipe to follow for Latin artists who wanted to rap in Spanish. The best in the business were brought in from the likes of The Dust Brothers, DJ Muggs and Tony G. working with such sample wizardry as Santana, War and James Brown. A rigorous touring schedule through the U.S. , all over Latin America, Europe and Japan brought him together with musical giants Celia Cruz, En Vogue, A Tribe Called Quest and others. Countries like Columbia , Costa Rica , Mexico , Argentina and Chile had never experienced anything like a Hip-Hop show let alone a rapper who spoke in their native tongue. http://thezzyzzx.tumblr.com http://cazalzzyzzx.tumblr.com http://www.facebook.com/MellowManAceFB http://www.facebook.com/TheZZYZZX
