Interview by Angela CroudaceHeavy metal legend Ross The Boss is set to electrify Australia next week, and he couldn't be more excited. Reflecting on his previous visit, Ross recalls the overwhelming love he received from Aussie fans. "The reaction nerfed me," he laughed. "The intensity, especially in Melbourne, was unbelievable."Ross, a founding member of Manowar, spoke passionately about the creation of Sign of the Hammer, revealing that the band often recorded more tracks than needed, seizing every opportunity in the studio. A highlight was recording at Richard Branson's famed Manor Studio — a surreal experience that included sleeping in rooms once occupied by historical figures like William the Conqueror. This upcoming tour features what Ross calls the best version of the RTB band yet, boasting powerhouse musicians like Dirk Schlächter (Gamma Ray) and drummer Sean Elg. “We're coming to melt faces,” Ross promises, highlighting the group's precision and raw power. When asked about his time in Manowar, Ross candidly shared that he wished he'd been firmer with his bandmate Joey DeMaio. "Sometimes I should've put my foot down more," he admitted. Despite past challenges, he now channels his passion purely through his guitar, still rooted in the soulful blues influences of B.B. King and Albert King.Ross also touched on the emotional impact his music has had. "People tell me it saved their lives," he said, visibly moved. "It's an honour I don't take lightly."As Ross prepares to unleash a storm of classic anthems down under, he leaves fans with one promise: “We'll give you 150%. When the final note rings out, we want you to feel it in your soul — and want us back.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Von Hard Rock zum Blues – Gary Moores Neuanfang mit "Still Got The Blues (For You)" Mit "Still Got The Blues (For You)" schlug Gary Moore eine neue musikalische Richtung ein – weg vom Hard Rock, hin zum Blues. Still Got The Blues (For You)" aufzunehmen. King. Zudem wirkte George Harrison an "That Kind Of Woman" mit. "Still Got The Blues" – Ein Meilenstein der Musikgeschichte Was hat George Harrison mit "Still Got The Blues" zu tun? __________ Über diese Songs vom Album "Still Got The Blues" wird im Podcast gesprochen (03:49) – "Texas Strut"(16:02) – "Still Got The Blues (For You)"(35:57) – "Moving On"(41:07) – "Oh, Pretty Woman "(49:42) – "King Of The Blues"(1:04:03) – "That Kind Of Woman"__________ Über diese Songs wird außerdem im Podcast gesprochen (09:49) – "All Your Love" von Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton(28:11) – "Dana" von Roland Kovac(29:14) – "Nordrach" von Jud's Gallery(34:44) – "Still In Love With You" von Thin Lizzy(41:08) – "Pretty Woman" von Roy Orbison(41:45) – "Oh, Pretty Woman" von Albert King (53:57) – "Broken Heart" von B.B. Jimmy Vivino Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson It had been six long, 4 1/2 COVID years since last I sat down with my old friend, multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, and long-time musical director for Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Vivino. It was like coming home. Almost the same age, we have many shared (unbeknownst to us at the time) memories of concerts at The Filmore East, Watkins Glen, the glory daze of the NY club scene, and a bounty of mutual friends. Talk about being in one's comfort zone. Jimmy talked growing up in New Jersey, his carpenter trumpet-playing father, his talented brothers, Jerry and Floyd, and how they began and evolved - he talked Conan, Laura Nyro, Phoebe Snow, Donald Fagen, John Sebastian, Al Kooper, Levon Helm, The Allman Brothers, Albert King, Tom Petty, Prince, Bruno Mars, Michael McDonald, Johnny Johnson, Hubert Sumlin, Stevie Wonder, Muddy Waters, Pinetop Perkins, John Sebastian, The Dead, The Band, Harry Shearer, Paul Shaffer, whom he credits as his mentor, Leader of the Pack, Broadway, Ronnie Spector, Felix Cavaliere, The Rascals, Frankie Valli, Slash, Sly Stone, The J. Geils Band, Elvis Costello, and the James Brown and Friends Set Fire To The Soul with Aretha, Robert Palmer, and Joe Cocker, that he orchestrated. Incredible stories all around, and this special is available on YouTube… wow - Snuff and I just watched it. Spectacular. We talked about COVID and Jimmy joining Canned Heat, currently touring with them, and Bill Murray, as well as still doing shows with Will Lee and The Fab Faux. His first all-original album, Gonna Be 2 of Those Days, is due to drop in February, signed copies are available for pre-sale at jimmyvmusic.com He treated us to a track to close the show. Life is busy, busy. busy… just the way Jimmy likes it. And so do we who follow and adore him. I so enjoyed every second of this. Jimmy needs to write a book and get all these stories down. He knows and has played with everyone. Such fun! His latest documentary, When Houston Had The Blues — the focus of this episode — shines a bright light on a vibrant Black music scene that has never gotten its just due…until now. Houston's early and indelible mark on American music and the blues — often overlooked despite its rich history — is celebrated in the soulful, feature-length documentary, When Houston Had the Blues. While Houston may not come to most people's minds as a major “music city” like Memphis, Chicago or New Orleans, it has a legacy that few other cities can match. Years before Elvis hit the charts with “Hound Dog,” it was originally recorded by Houston's Big Mama Thornton (arguably the defining version). And long before Motown, Houston was home to one of the most successful Black music empires in the country. When Houston Had the Blues features an extensive collection of photos from the '40s and ‘50s and vintage/contemporary performances by Bobby “Blue” Bland, Chic “Juke Boy” Bonner, Charles Brown, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Jewel Brown, C.J. Chenier, Arnett Cobb, Albert Collins, Diunna Greenleaf, Lightnin' Hopkins, Albert King, Freddie King, Trudy Lynn, David “Guitar Shorty” Kearney, Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton, Katie Webster aka The Swamp Boogie Queen, Don Wilkerson and more. With a unique timber and flavor unlike any other town in America, even other Texan cities, Houston's blues scene — ranging from “gut bucket” to highly sophisticated — has long been a melting pot of music, influenced by salsa, tejano, cajun, zydeco (then known as la-la), jazz, country and, later, rock ‘n' roll. William Bell is a soul legend who scored an early hit for Memphis's Stax Records with 1961's “You Don't Miss Your Water” and wrote and sang such much-covered classics as “I Forgot To Be Your Lover,” “Everybody Loves a Winner” and “Every Day Will Be Like a Holiday.” He and Booker T. Jones co-wrote Albert King's “Born Under a Bad Sign,” and Bell vividly recalls the story behind that one. He also recounts his friendship with Otis Redding and how Redding's death, followed by Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination, affected him, Memphis and beyond. At age 84, Bell continues to make music, releasing the Grammy-winning album This Is Where I Live in 2017 and One Day Closer to Home last year. His voice and writing—as well as his wit and memory—remain impressively strong.

We talked about this, skateboarding to Albert King, external meanings being attached to the BP song “Colors”, the first meeting with his bandmate Adrian Quesada, meditating before shows, and being present and grateful in the music itself.
