2023 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Walt Disney Company, and part of that celebration is a touring exhibit that displays many items from the archives that made its way to Chicago this month. It's housed at the 35,000 square foot Exhibition Hub Art Center that will open to the public on Saturday, November 18th - also a special date as it marks the first appearance of Mickey Mouse in Steamboat Willie, back in 1928. Disney100 web: https://disney100exhibit.com From Disney's site. "Disney100: The Exhibition invites guests to step into ten magnificent and imaginatively themed galleries, where moving stories, unique interactive installations, and behind-the-scenes glimpses will take them on a journey through 100 years of The Walt Disney Company. There are ten large and imaginatively themed galleries with renowned classics from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) to Encanto (2021), including the latest members of the Disney family – Pixar, Star Wars, MARVEL, and National Geographic. Celebrate the magic of Disney with timeless stories and memories through the visual, audio, and interactive elements of Disney100: The Exhibition."   Thursday November 16th was media day and I was lucky enough to tag along with Dan Zehr from Coffee with Kenobi as he toured the exhibit and interviewed folks from Disney, as well as actress and Disney legend Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel from The Litte Mermaid.   In this episode you will here from Dan and get his impressions of the exhibit, along with Kevin Kern, Disney Regional Archives Manager who was nice enough to answer a few questions from me as well. You'll also hear opening remarks from a few people from Disney and the city who spoke with the press before the ribbon cutting ceremony commenced.   I hope you enjoy this special episode of the podcast, and make sure you check out Coffee with Kenobi for more from the Disney100 Chicago Exhibit.

In Episode 2 of Season 6, Alex analyzes the rise and fall of Senator Joseph McCarthy and McCarthyism's effect on the country and Ohio during the 2nd Red Scare of the 1950s. We study how America's love affair with bullies and how a paranoid nation briefly lost its way during the early years of the Cold War. We're joined by best selling author Larry Tye to discuss his book Demagogue, the definitive account of Senator Joe McCarthy from 2020. Buy Larry's book here https://www.hmhbooks.com/shop/books/demagogue/9781328959720 Larry talks about McCarthy's meteoric rise in American politics and his equally rapid descent from the top of the political world. McCarthy's crusade against Communism at home shakes the very foundation of the country and divides the nation in half. Lives are ruined by McCarthy's baseless attacks on the Constitutional rights of Americans and we analyze how he was enabled by his political party, the media and even the President of the United States. The Second Red Scare cast its long shadow on Ohio and Ohioans as well. We sit down with University of Akron professor, Greg Wilson, about McCarthyism's effect on the Buckeye State. From the halls of the Ohio Statehouse, the Ohio UnAmerican Activities Committee wields its inquisition into suspected communists and subversives throughout the state. Greg walks us through 1950s Ohio and the Cold War stories of Ohioans persecuted by its own government. Don't forget to buy Greg's book Ohio: the History of the Buckeye State, the most comprehensive book on Ohio history on the market today. Former CEO of Oracle, MARK HURD loved tennis. In High School, Hurd battled it out with top-ten pros on the public courts in Miami Beach. In college, he played #1 at Baylor University. And while Chief Executive at Oracle, he helped forge one of the most significant relationships in the history of tennis between a corporation and the sport.  We interviewed Mark this year at The BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, but we had some technical difficulties and the interview was cut short so we tabled it, hoping to get a better, more thorough one, down the road. Unfortunately, we never got that chance. Mark passed away last week at the age of 62. The man did so much for the sport he loved and so we decided to release this episode in his honor.  On the episode MARK HURD discusses the state of college tennis, what Oracle is doing to advance the sport and what makes Larry Ellison so special.   (Recorded March 9, 2019.
