I was pleased as all get-out one day this summer when Dr. Erika C. Martin messaged me on a thread I'd started a few weeks prior. She mentioned she'd be coming through town the following day and -- were I available to schedule something last-minute -- she'd be happy to slightly alter her travel plans to come sit and chat with me for a few.She is an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Emporia State University. She's a biostatistician and a science correspondent for the Fish Nerds podcast, and she's the Editor of Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science. She's also a daughter, a sibling, a wife, a mom, a collector of stringed instruments and vinyl records, one heck of a singer/songwriter/guitarist, and she's my guest for Episode No. 148.Erika and I talked family, growing up, academia and education, science, podcasting, and a bunch more, which included a few of her favorite albums. Those were these:This Is the Moody Blues (1974), The Moody BluesRed Hot Chili Peppers' One Hot Minute (1995)'V' is for Vagina (2007), PusciferN.A.S.A.'s The Spirt of Apollo (2009)Good Company (2014), The Dead SouthI'm always impressed and thankful when someone makes the trek in from Lawrence or Manhattan or anywhere, really. The gift of time is invaluable, and when folks travel to donate it via sitting in my basement home studio with me for a chunk of time, I'm grateful. When someone cuts a four-hour road trip in half, though, and hangs out with me for two hours in the interim, well...that's just aces. And Doc Martin is for sure an ace, herself. So, many thanks to her for the trust, the time, and the conversation, and thank you to you for supporting the podcast.Cheers.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained within this episode. They are clips from a tune called, "Donny Gone," by The Jazzual Suspects. I found it on their self-titled release from 2018, c/o Om Records.
LTHM 740 - Steve-OFor this week's podcast we have Steve-O also known as Steve Solorio with a tribute mix to the late ninety's music group Uneaq! Formed in 1998 by vocalist Jessica Marquez and her brother Joshua Marquez who played guitar, bass, and keys. Also, part of the group was Andrew Lozano as the third and 4th member, which was his computer, that he used to add more elements to the music. The group was originally a soulful jazz quintet with a splash of hip hop and later decided to completely change their style that was heavily influenced by the underground house music scene. All three were originally from the city of San Jose in the San Francisco Bay Area, where they started performing and gained experience locally, but soon enough they were touring across the US and also releasing an EP on world renowned OM Records. The Group ended up splitting in 2012 but you can find Andrew still working and releasing music under his own label Freqy Music Group as well as other various labels. Along with the label he offers mixing and mastering services. All the tracks you will be hearing in this mix put together by Steve-O, were written or remix by Uneaq.Follow and connect:https://www.instagram.com/steve.solorio.7/https://www.instagram.com/andrew.lozano/https://www.instagram.com/freqymusicgroup/https://www.last.fm/music/Uneaqhttps://www.freqymusicgroup.com/LTHM Music Releases:lthm.bandcamp.com/Shop LTHM Apparel by Happy Harry Taggs here: happyharrytaggs.com/www.instagram.com/happyharrytaggs/Follow:www.instagram.com/diegovalle_lthm/www.instagram.com/lthm_music/LTHM Label Website: www.lthmmusic.com/

I'm your host Mason Vera Paine and in today's episode we will be featuring music from Kaskade, Nicky Romero, Symphonix, Mitch Oliver, Vinyl's From The Past and Music News. Kaskade: Start - 0:16 and End – 4:19Kaskade is a popular DJ and Producer based out of California. He started his career in 1995 when he ran a record store in Salt Lake City. From there he relocated to San Francisco and joined the label “Om Records”. In 2003 he had his musical breakthrough with the release of his debut album titled “It's You, It's Me”. Check out his latest track “Caroling, Caroling” feat Late Night Alumni. “Caroling, Caroling” is out now via Arkade Made and its available on all streaming platforms. He started his music career in 2007 on Once Records; where he released tracks like "Privilege" and "Qwerty”. Check out his latest release “Sensation”. “Sensation” is out now via Virgin Records/Universal Music and its available on all streaming platforms. In this limited run series, I will be exploring the pioneers that have shaped and influenced the EDM we have today. In this episode I will be featuring “Safri Duo”. “Safri Duo” formed in 1977; their initial focus was on classical music. Later their style evolved with the blend of electronica and tribal. In 2000 they gained mainstream success with their release of “The Bongo Song”. Take a listen to it here. “The Bongo Song” was featured in the 2000 Summer Olympics. The success of this song came from the fusion of tribal drums and trance. This caught the attention of Club DJs and even media like MTV Europe because no one ever heard the mixing of percussions and trance before “Safri Duo”. That's it for this week's Vinyl's from the past; now let's get back to more music. Symphonix: Start – 11:36 and End – 17:44Established in 1998, DJ Montagu and DJ Golkunda have made a name for themselves with their project Symphonix. The two brothers are known for their progressive psytrance style of music. Here is a listen to their latest track “Memories”. “Memories” is out now via Blue Tunes Records and its available on all streaming platforms. He was scheduled to perform at the Dreamstate Festivals in Sydney and Melbourne. Illan has admitted that “the music industry and touring is demanding on his mental and physical health”. In other news David Guetta recently announced his partnership with Lyre's a leading non-alcoholic spirits brand. According to Guetta he is looking to change the perception people have about alcohol-free drinking. That's it for music news,

The United States has the highest maternal mortality rate of any high-income nation in the world — and it is Black mothers who are dying at the highest rates. Black birthing people are three times more likely to die in childbirth, but about 84% of those deaths are preventable. For this episode of Meet the BIPOC Press with our partner URL Media, a network of Black and Brown owned and operated news outlets, Laura Flanders is joined again by co-host Sara Lomax of Philadelphia's WURD Radio. They invite Marianne Fray, the CEO of Maternity Care Coalition and Kenya Hunter, the Atlanta Health Reporter for Capital B News, to discuss how Black women and birthing people are taking control of their pregnancies. Explore the community-centered responses that may lead to better pregnancy outcomes and a more equitable healthcare system.“We all came into this world through some person and it is a miraculous thing. If we could spend a little time reflecting on that, and then set up ourselves or whomever chooses to have children with the best possible outcome.” - Marianne Fray“There was a researcher from the University of Colorado, Boulder, who predicted a 21% jump in pregnancy-related deaths in the country if Roe v Wade was overturned. But that number then jumps to 33% when you're talking about Black women.” - Kenya Hunter“. . . Birth was a business practice in many ways. Children were ripped from us. Black women were experimented on by the ‘father of gynecology,' Marion Sims in the 1840s . . . I do think Black women are carrying a lot of historical trauma related to birthing and childbearing.”Guests:Marianne Fray: CEO, Maternity Care CoalitionKenya Hunter: Atlanta Health Reporter, Capital B NewsSara Lomax: Co-Founder, URL Media; President & CEO, WURD RadioFull Show Notes are located HERE. Hello and welcome to episode 41 of The DJ B-12 Deep Acid House Experience. This show is for October of 2022. We have a very special show for you this month. This show is almost entirely oldskool first generation progressive house, along with trance, breaks, acid and techno all from the early to mid 1990's. I really want to thank everyone for the kind words and incredible feedback on the last show, number 40. It's such a beautiful thing hearing about people loving this music and have such fond memories of hearing this stuff back in the day. It's truly such an honor to play this stuff for you in 2022. For this month's show, I have dug even deeper than last month, and we go in much further. A lot of these tracks came from my personal record collection and a few are pretty rare. This has been one of my most challenging mixes yet to date, as a lot of these older tracks don't stay in time very well, so I put a lot of extra work and effort into this episode to bring you the absolute best show possible. Andy Caldwell on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 8/11/22 About Andy Caldwell - A name that has been synonymous with the underground sound of the halcyon days of deep house, Andy Caldwell continues to push the boundaries at the forefront of today's dance music scene. Internationally renowned for purveying sonically sublime sound waves over the past two decades, Andy continues to be recognized in 2016 as one of the scene's most forward thinking producers. In addition to writing and releasing his own music, Andy has kept himself busy remixing such internationally renowned artists as Major Lazer, Lenny Kravitz and Beyoncé. With several Grammy nominations already to his name, Andy shows no sign of resting on his laurels after the 2014 nomination for his remix of Canadian group Delerium. This sits nicely alongside his ‘Best Remixed Recording' by Wolfgang Gartner in 2011 for his original track ‘Funk Nasty' and his work with Kaskade and Dirty South on ‘Sorry', which snagged his first nomination for ‘Best Remixed Recording' in 2008. His original productions can be found on Toolroom, Yoshitoshi, OM Records, Murk, Ultra and many more alongside some of Dance music's best including Todd Terry, Kaskade, Morgan Page, Mr. V, Lisa Shaw and Anduze. Andy Caldwell's ‘Naked' days may be behind him, but we will certainly be seeing plenty of him in 2017! With a back catalog of tracks this inspired, it's easy to see why a talent this bright will always sparkle under the spotlight. DJ Colette on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 8/10/22 About DJ Colette - DJ, producer, vocalist – Colette has grown from an integral part of the Chicago underground into a breakout musical triple-threat releasing her most accomplished and fully realized artistic statement to date. Combining the tunefulness of classic pop songs with the thump of classic house of her hometown, the album ventures into new sonic territory for Colette, from intimate bedroom beats to stadium-shaking dance anthems. When the Music's Loud is the sound of an artist at the peak of her powers. Always seeking to push boundaries and explore new territories, Chicago native DJ Colette, continues to discover ways to push her craft and career forward even after over two decades of leading the pack. A founding member of the pioneering DJ collective Superjane—along with DJ Heather, Lady D, and Dayhota—Colette has been an integral part of the Midwest underground since the birth of the 90s. Crafting events in Chicago—ones that would see most of Chicago's second generation of house music artists and DJs graduate to global scales—her Material events at the storied club Shelter in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood were seminal in the development of the house sound of Chicago's North Side, from the early 1990s on. Colette's groundbreaking combination of incorporating her live vocals over into DJ sets became her signature and a definitive technique that's won her fans from six continents. As a natural extension of her formative musical academia at Lane Tech College Prep, she began making recordings, with her first release appearing on 1995's “Moments of Epiphany” produced by Mazi & DJ Motion for Shroom Records. With an ever-increasing velocity of singles released for independent mainstays such as Icon Recordings, Moody Recordings, Nordic Trax, Brique Rouge, including Derrick Carter's seminal Classic Music Company, eventually led to recording two successful full-length efforts—2005's Hypnotized and 2007's Push—for San Franciso's legendary imprint OM Records. With multiple Dancestar Awards, commercial licenses, TV placements, and a Top #5 Billboard Hit, Colette was ready to make the next move in her career from not only just making records and playing them, but the upward motion to releasing them as well. Colette launched Candy Talk Records in June of 2010 as a platform for more creative control with her own music, their collaborations, and the choice and freedom to work with other record producers of whom she is a fan. Since then, Colette has personally released eight singles and two full-length efforts of her own work—2013's crowd-funded When The Music's Loud (named one of Vice's 99 greatest dance albums of all time) and 2017's Retrospective. Releasing remixed and original works from the likes of Gettoblaster, Sonny Fodera, Late Nite Alumni, Lawnchair Generals, Rubb Sound System, Scrubfish, WhiteNoize, Demarkus Lewis, Chuck Love, Golf Clap, Local Options, Change Request, and more she has created a home for other like-minded creators to have a platform for their work. With an ever-growing roster of musicians, producers, and DJs, 2019—thus far—has seen Candy Talk release East Coast production stalwart Pete Moss' mixes of Colette's “Dreams”, which peaked at #4 on the Traxsource Deep House Top 100. Establishing a remix series highlighting particular producers, Candy Talk has released two volumes in this series thus far with The Rubb Sound System Remixes (CTR015) and The Gettoblaster Remixes (CTR016), and The Demarkus Lewis Remixes (CTR018) featuring his reworks of "Call On Me", “Dreams”, and “We Feel So Hot” slated for the last quarter of 2019. Looking forward, the label anticipates celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2020 with a compilation centered around the best of the Candy Talk catalog—including some new tracks—(CTR019) in the first half of the new year. There are 3 things you should know about Yula : two decades of a DJ career; her own 12'' vinyl label Krasаwa Records, releasing both talented Russian and prominent European producers, like Rune Lindbaek, Rotciv, and Kyodai; and last but not the least: The Cruising duo with her husband Sergey Demidov, (Om Records, Whiskey Pickle, to name a few). Music pieces by The Cruising are not that easy to identify, both style- and time-wise. Funky vibes of the 1970s and 1980s are generously mixed with techno sound and peppered with unconventional live instruments, vocals, and flirting with rock. Throw in ambitions of new genre creators, and you get a fantastic creature, a techno-funky-rock Unicorn, which is definitely worth to see and hear.

Want to learn how to lose $40,000? One company inadvertently did— by embracing infinite storage and compute without guardrails, an oversight that could have been solved with MLOps.Sometimes defined as “DevOps for ML”, MLOps encompasses everything from the hardware and software on which machine learning is done to the governance and ethics associated with deployment.Demetrios Brinkmann, coordinator of the MLOps community and host of a number of fantastic AI podcasts, came in to discuss how we should be evaluating models throughout their life cycle. He also introduced a completely unique way to gamify feature stores that could change the way data scientists are remunerated. Demetrios shared some stories about how businesses can benefit from MLOps (and the astounding times ML has gone wrong without it!)Hear Demetrios talk about AI Ethics and AR in the Bonus Minutes on our website, mlminutes.com, where you can also find episode transcripts, additional resources, and more. Pete Moss and Colette on the "Virtual Sessions" presented by The DJ Sessions 2/27/21 Pete and Colette talking about their collaboration album "THE DAYS" A Retrospective Part 1" and other things... About Pete Moss - Philadelphia based Pete Moss knows a thing or two about house music having traveled the world in search of the ultimate underground dance floors, and releasing over 150 projects on top labels such as, Ovum, Dessous, ALola, Definity, Large, Seamless, I records, MN2's, Acryl and dozens of others, including his own underground Recline imprint. Known as one of the finest late night/underground Dj's on the map, crushing it at Fabric London, La Terrazza Barcelona, Roxy Prague, Salon Daome Montreal, Harlot San Francisco, King King L.A, The Arches GLasgow, La Santanera PDC Mexico, Rioma Mexico City, Smartbar Chicago, Living Room Miami, among others, Pete has a reputation for giving his all at every gig and leaving people touched and inspired by his signature deep and eclectic sound. Candy Talk Records kicked off 2021 with its twenty-second release, featuring the first in a two part retrospective compilation "The Days", from label favorite, Philly's deep house aficionado, Pete Moss. This two-part retrospective compiled by label head Colette features some of Moss' most memorable moments, with many tracks originally only available in limited quantities. These hand chosen tracks have all been remastered for today's modern fidelity. Part one of this series features an eclectic collection of sounds and moods. From the dubbed out aesthetics of tracks like "So Sweet", "2012", and "All Ova the World", to the spaced out elemental disco-tinged "Turn U Back" and "Back in the Daze", this is just scraping the surface of this release's brilliance. Paring the sweet and subtle spatial delicacy of "Too Soon", "I See the Beauty", and his rework of "Dreams feat. Colette" with the emotive tracks like the deep and driving "Rain Day" or "Solutionz", this compilation is a true testament to the exploratory musical magic that has become a benchmark of the sound of Pete Moss. About Colette - Always seeking to push boundaries and explore new territories, Chicago native DJ Colette, continues to discover ways to push her craft and career forward even after over two decades of leading the pack. Looking forward, the label anticipates celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2020 with a compilation centered around the best of the Candy Talk catalog—including some new tracks—(CTR019) in the first half of the new year.

Grammy-nominated electronic producer Kaskade emerged as one of the most successful American progressive house DJs of the 2000s, pioneering the concept of Las Vegas residencies and selling out arenas across America. With his bright, uplifting dance anthems, he was a steady presence on the U.S. electronic charts into the 2010s with Top Ten releases that included chart-toppers Fire & Ice (2011) and Atmosphere (2013).Born Ryan Gary Raddon in Chicago, he spent his early days not only as a DJ, but also as an A&R director and record store owner. In the late '90s, he familiarized himself with the rapidly changing electronic music scene, eventually finding that house music was the subgenre he loved best. He DJ'ed in both New York and Salt Lake City, where he would first produce tracks released on his own tiny label, Mechanized Records. He also sold his music to John Elkins, A&R director for OM Records, who later hired Raddon to assist him at the label. By night, Kaskade spun at local clubs and by day helped kick-start the careers of many artists, including Ming + FS and soul-house act Soulstice. His own full-length recordings under the Kaskade moniker began with 2003's house-inflected It's You, It's Me. A soulful, more organic direction provided focus for the following year's In the Moment, and Raddon kept his name in the record racks by piloting editions in the San Francisco Sessions DJ series (as well as the label mix House of OM). He proved surprisingly dedicated to his production craft, releasing Love Mysterious in 2006, which placed on Billboard's electronic albums chart. That same year, he parted ways with OM and signed with Ultra.Arriving in 2008, Strobelight Seduction -- featuring production by Deadmau5 -- became his biggest commercial success to date, buoyed by the lead single "Move for Me." Released in 2010, Dynasty celebrated his new reputation with a parade of vocal features and a co-production with Tiësto. It also became his first LP to chart on the Billboard 200. That year, Raddon put together Electric Daisy Carnival, a mix showcasing artists on the bill for the inaugural dance music festival of the same name. The double-album Fire & Ice followed in 2011 and debuted in the Billboard Top 20. Featuring a production assist from Skrillex on "Lick It," the effort also included guest vocals from Neon Trees and Skylar Grey. Atmosphere arrived two years later and featured softer, more relaxed music along with vocals from Kaskade himself. After the 2014 compilation I Remember rounded up the best material from his years on Ultra, the DJ renewed his contract with the label and one year later released Automatic. The album featured guest appearances from Estelle, Galantis, John Dahlbäck, and K. Flay, and peaked on the Billboard Electronic chart at number two. In 2016, Kaskade joined Deadmau5 and Skylar Grey on the single "Beneath Me." The following year, he issued the Redux EP 002 (featuring LoKii, Mr. Tape, and Late Night Alumni), as well as the holiday-themed Kaskade Christmas. The DJ then joined Charlotte Lawrence for the 2018 single "Cold as Stone." His third installment of the Redux series arrived in 2019. Redux EP 003 presented a seamless mix featuring Felix Cartal, Gorgon City, and more. ~ L. This month's guest mix comes from LA-based DJ and producer @rithma. Tracklist + Interview: subtempo.com/mixes/rithma A veteran in the house and tech-house scene, back in the mid 2000s, Rithma had built quite a decent fan-base, touring the US and releasing music on labels such as the famous OM Records out of San Francisco. As he tells us in this deep interview, he took several years of hiatus to deal with his addictions. It's great to see him come back strong, and what best way than with a fresh new release and this mix to go along with it. Expect house beats on a soulful tip.

DJ, producer and label owner with groove in his blood. Also a family man with a great heart. He lives just outside Frankfurt, but is not a mainstream kind of person. The atmosphere and the vibe of his tracks are intended to carry this mood into the clubs, onto dancefloors or anywhere you hear it. He had achieved a lot in the last years. Maximum, possibly. And that manifests his brilliancy. Modern techhouse, sharpened with swing, groove, and some typical „M.in humor“. Unlike many others he can successfully put basically any sound into his tracks. He pairs deep bass-drum with Afrobeat, Latin or popular swinging jazz. He has convinced some of the greatest in the industry of his genius and became a „big one“ himself. Releases on renowned labels like OFF REC., DESOLAT, SOUVENIR, GET PHYSICAL, KD MUSIC, TRAPEZ LTD., ROBSOUL, PLAY IT DOWN, BAR 25, SYSTEMATIC RECORDING and OM RECORDS followed. He remixed Radio Slave, Marc Romboy and various other artists. He is constantly pushing and promoting his own labels, MY FAVOURITE FREAKS MUSIC and WEPLAYMINIMAL. His quote and credo: a track needs vibe. In addition, his new album is full of vibes. www.facebook.com/M.in.fanpage pro.beatport.com/artist/m-in/97386 @m-in www.residentadvisor.net/dj/m.in

This is a flashback episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Ausar Ra Black Hawk for the week of March 18, 2015 (due to it just being another VERY hectic week with events and more for the radio show; originally broadcast on the week of December 10, 2008) with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. That week's commentary focused on the finale of the 2nd OJ Simpson trial and why the Black American community could more or less not care about his sentencing due to being arrogant and non-thinking, how Black American athletes were not having a good week (Plaxico Burress, etc.), the passing of Hip-Hop MC and D.I.T.C. member Party Arty and some other things. We also had an interview this week on the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with documentary director Kevin Booth of "American Drug War: The Last White Hope" (http://www.AmericanDrugWar.com). Some topics covered in our talk include some of the history of the Drug War in America, some of the unfairness that's in the legal system for those who do illegal drugs (long prison terms, little rehabiltation programs for those who need them, racial and economic disparities with those arrested, etc.), what made some drugs illegal and some not in the eyes of the government, the ways the documentary was completed both on the record and undercover ways and some other interesting things. We do not have new Direct EFX and Black Agenda Report news segments on this week's broadcast due to our interview. This week it is our great pleasure to welcome to The Armory the venerable, house-music legend DJ Brad Robinson of the Space Cowboys. With nearly 20 years under his belt, Brad's vast DJ experience has taken him from his humble beginnings at Vanderbilt University to San Francisco to Black Rock City and even as far as Thailand and South Korea. The flawless mix you're about to hear was recorded live earlier this month from Pink Mammoth's 10-Year Anniversary party at Mighty in San Francisco. Press play. Get down. Brad Robinson started playing house music on the airwaves of Vanderbilt radio station WRVU, Nashville in 1994. Warehouse parties were prominent in the midwest and southeast during those years, providing Brad exposure to some of the best DJs and some of the best crowds that the scene had to offer. Influenced by DJs and producers like Mark Grant, Mark Farina, DJ Dan, the Chicago Teamsters, the Hardkiss Brothers, and DJ Sneak, Brad continued to develop his style of house music that would have a lasting effect on him and his fans. Playing parties and events from New Orleans to Chicago, Brad quickly discovered that his house music could bring people together. With a rare opportunity, Brad travelled to San Francisco to intern with the infamous Hardkiss Records label. The experience would forever change his view of electronic music and it was the eclectic vibe of the San Francisco music scene which drew him back in 1998 where he interned for OM Records and began to call SF his home. In 2000, Brad joined the Space Cowboys collective and journeyed to his first of many Burning Man festivals in the Nevada desert. In the desert of Black Rock City and the streets of San Francisco Brad continued to share his love of house music with his 8+ year monthly residency at Vision and honed his trademark sound: a little funk, a lot of groove, some classic house sounds, some sneak-up-on-ya latin vibes, but always infused with soul and organic elements. For Brad, playing house music is about connecting with the mood and celebration of the community he is with. Brad can be found playing at some of San Francisco's iconic annual events including the Space Cowboy annual New Years Day Breakfast of Champions, as well as clubs and parties in the Bay Area. You can follow Brad's music on his podcast djbradrobinson.podomatic.com. For bookings please contact Brad at email@djbradrobinson.com. Artwork by www.jempanufnik.com
Andy Caldwell, DJ/Producer A name that has been synonymous with the underground sound of the halcyon days of deep house, Andy Caldwell continues to push the boundaries at the forefront of today's dance music scene. Andy Caldwell's ‘Naked' days may be behind him, but we will certainly be seeing plenty of him. With a back catalogue of tracks this inspired, it's easy to see why a talent this bright will always sparkle under the spotlight.
On this week's RIPECast we're extremely pleased to bring you Anthony Mansfield (Disco Knights/Green Gorilla). If you weren't there or were there but were too gacked out to remember, this year's Breakfast of Champions had a whole new stage on Utah Street. So we were able to bring Anthony and many more of SF's incredibly talented DJs to the party, and we had the recorders going the whole time. Anthony's Dirt Rave vibe rocked the crowd and was one of the day's highlights -- we know you'll enjoy it! About Anthony: Anthony Mansfield has been on a 20-year journey through the world of psychedelic dance music ever since attending the now-legendary full moon massives of San Francisco’ s Wicked Crew in the early 90’ s. Anthony spent the rest of the decade in New York, spreading the gospel of deep house across the Empire State with a late- night radio show, his 8-year-running weekly, and the countless underground parties that gave birth to his own crew, HectorWorks Soundsystem. After an exhausting and debaucherous 2-year run as GM, talent booker, and resident DJ at upstate’ s largest live music venue, The Odyssey, Anthony was ready to return to San Francisco. Anthony hit the West Coast running in 2001, joining his old friend DJ M3 as resident DJ and co-promoter of the infamous Green Gorilla Lounge in a string of successful weekly club nights, true seat-of-your-pants underground parties, and blown- out monthly events across the Bay Area, with some of the city’ s and world’ s best names in dance music. Anthony has left his mark on Burning Man for the last decade as well, at the Space Lounge, Green Gorilla, and Disco Knights sound camps, with a trail of exhausted dancers and party people in the wake of his many epic sets on the Playa. Anthony has been producing his own particular brand of dance music since his first release on Rong Records in ’ 04 with Ben Cook as “ Barfly”. Quickly moving to found his own label, Hector Works, in 2005 with NYC deep-house production wizard Nick Chacona, Anthony has worked with Garth, Tal M. Klein, Sneak-E Pete, M3, and others in the last five years, releasing tracks on Gomma, Moodmusic, Aniligital, and Om Records. His tunes have received nods (and plays) from some of the world’ s top DJs, including Dimitri from Paris, Harvey, Greg Wilson, Doc Martin, Idjut Boys, Ivan Smaggle, The Revenge, Pete Herbert, and Playgroup. Camped out in his room at Moulton Studios, Anthony is currently hard at work on the 19th release for Hector Works, and looking forward to taking a break for the Treasure Island Music Festival! https://soundcloud.com/anthony-mansfield https://www.facebook.com/anthonymansfieldmusic

** I was out of town this week due to having the awesome honor of being chosen to speak at TEDxOrlando 2012 - check them out at http://www.TEDxOrlando.com! In the meantime, here's one of our favorite radio shows from the FuseBox Radio Broadcast's vaults for folks to listen to and enjoy... ** This is a flashback episode of the FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of October 10, 2012 (original episode from the week of December 10, 2008) with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul music, news and commentary. That week's commentary was on the finale of the 2nd OJ Simpson trial and why the Black American community could more or less not care about his sentencing due to being arrogant and non-thinking, how Black American athletes were not having a good week (Plaxico Burress, etc.), the passing of Hip-Hop MC and D.I.T.C. member Party Arty and some other things. We also had an interview this week on the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with documentary director Kevin Booth of "American Drug War: The Last White Hope" (http://http://americandrugwar.com/). Artist Name: Mark Farina Web: http://www.djmarkfarina.net/ Biography: Shortly after Mark befriended Derrick Carter in 1988 at a record store in Chicago, his passion for House music, and sharing it with the world, exploded. Mark experimented with a deeper style, dropping De La Soul, disco classics and other stuff that wasn’t being played in the main rooms of nightclubs. While exploring his love for the purist forms of House Music, Mark developed his trademark style: Mushroom Jazz; acid jazz infused with the West Coast’s jazzy, organic productions combined with urban beats. Fans embraced Mark’s downtempo style so much that he started a weekly Mushroom Jazz club night in San Francisco with Patty Ryan. In 3 short years, the club established a fanatical, cult-like following for Farina and the Mushroom Jazz sound. When the doors closed, Farina continued the tradition by releasing a series of Cds on OM Records: simply titled, “Mushroom Jazz”. Since then, Mark has been traveling the globe performing 100s of shows, to over one million club goers, every year. His House sets take fans on journeys to the jazzy side of Chicago House mixed San Fran style. Some of these sets have been known to last up to 8 hours. And sometimes you’ll find Mark playing in two different rooms at the same party, showcasing his range of big room sound to the uber-chill. When Mark’s not touring, you can likely find him in his studio, working on his next release for his imprint, Great Lakes Audio, or on another signature mix for Mushroom Jazz. Mark’s chunky-funky underground house style continually turns the heads of tastemakers worldwide, drawing him not only new fans, but landing him on the Top DJs in the World lists by URB, MUZIK and BPM Magazines. 01. How did you approach the dj profession? Saw DJs playing vinyl in club at age of 15/16 and was interested. 02. Tell us your first time playing in a club? Very first time, my friend, who was a resident DJ at a club I went to regularly was in the middle of his set and told me to get on. I was a nervous wreck. The place was packed with 1000 people. 03. What device do you prefer to use in your live and studio set up? Live in clubs I use CDJ 2000s Pioneer. For production I like Akai MPC-4000. 04. Your Mushroom Jazz saga reached the 7th edition, what can we expect from the next edition? Don't know just yet… Stay tuned! 05. What are you favorite record labels? Coyote Cuts, Classic, Sire, Wax Trax, Transmat, Greenhouse, Sampled, BBE. 06. What lead you to found Great Lakes Audio? Always wanted my own label since I began DJing. Finally made it happen. 07. In your opinion how will electronic music change in the next 10 years? It will always be about good music. 08. What do you love and what do you hate in the DJs life? Love travel, meeting people and seeing new places. Don't like airport delays and bad sound systems. 08. What would you suggest to a beginner DJ? Practice. Practice. Practice. And do your homework. 09. Can you tell us something about your future works? MJ8 this year. Various remixes
Well, its a been a few month since our last Podcast, but we are back with another exclusive mix from our 5th Birthday guests, Inland Knights. Dj’s, Producers and label owners, Andy Riley and Laurence Ritchie AKA Inland Knights hail from Nottingham UK, a city with a rich musical legacy, particularly for house music. They met in ’93 and cut their teeth DJ’ing for Smokescreen, the renegade soundsystem from which they drew their early inspiration. Smokescreen consisted of dj’s, lighting people, sound people, a truck, a P.A, a generator and general helpers. Old warehouses, woodland, fields, quarries and houses were utilised with the sole intention of having a good time…. for free! By the mid 90’s smokescreen could guarantee a crowd of hundreds in attendance at their parties, and their club nights became local institutions that ran for years with packed dancefloors, and still do to this day!. By ’98 Laurence and Andy had made the inevitable step into production and the same year the Dropmusic label was born with the release of ‘Inland Knights vol 1’. As Inland Knights Riley and Ritchie undertook a busy schedule in the studio to write tracks for Drop (almost all of the early output was entirely Inland knights, despite many monikers). Dropmusic has gone on to become one of the most highly regarded house labels in recent years(with 60 plus releases to date), and Inland knights have gone on to become one of the most respected production outfits in the house world, regularly taking on remix duties for fellow labels and producers. Highlights include the accliamed ‘Mohammed Ali’ remix for Faithless on Cheeky Records, cd compilations and remixes for NRK and Om Records, Inland Knights first full length album entitled ‘Creative Spaces’, and more recently Inland Knights album to mark 10 years of Dropmusic entitled ‘Dust till Dawn’. Currently, as well as remix and production commitments, the pair maintain a busy international Dj ‘ing shedule, and can be found most weekends playing somewhere in the UK or Europe, as well as regular visits to the U.S, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Andy also records under the Toka Project pseudonym, and Laurence under the alias Larry Fives. Catch Inland Knights at ......... Collaborating with people like Paul van Dijk, Mark Knight and D. Ramirez. Its a dance album but not entirely: some pop songs and final downtempo song are all part of this listening experience. Being a fan of Underworld for at least 20 years now, we proudly present the new release “Barking” on our show! Soon after we noticed this new album we ran to our local store an bought it. Of course we did some pre-listening to the iTunes Store 30-second snippets before doing so…The album is good! Past, present and future come together during this 9 track story; Karl Hyde and Rick Smith have been in music production for 30 years, they know how to entertain us. And please, have a good listen yourself before judging. We have read reviews out there, some of them really good, unfortunately a bunch of reviews being completely untrue and not understanding the vibes that Underworld is so very keen on. The most funny review we found is posted by The Telegraph and it says: “There are a couple of vintage Underworld tracks but the album ends disappointingly with Louisiana, which is guaranteed to clear the dance floor”. We think that The Telegraph simply don’t get the story right here. The album “Barking” is not only about dance. And that’s a good thing! It’s not only about uplifting tracks, we can hear a story about the old, the new and what might be expected. The truth is, we are happy that Underworld is not doing the uptempo thing the entire album. There’s other ways to go there and to fill the ‘dance floor’all night long! I like the Dutch review at dance.nl much better, saying “Ja, Underworld klinkt zeker nieuw; van rauwe techno tot meeslepende trance en ambient, en tegelijk meer pop dan je ze in tijden hebt gehoord. Geweldige plaat.” In plain English that is: “Underworld sounds new; rough Techno to Trance and Ambient and more Pop than ever, great record”. After we bought ourselves the original digi-pack in the local record store in Rotterdam (PLATO) being the one including the DVD video clips, we decided to contact OM-Records in the US. Big thanks to James @ OM-Records for his enthousiasm and understanding. And yes… we’ve got official permission to play some pieces of the “Barking” way of life. The release with many collaborations, just to name a few: Paul van Dijk, Mark Knight and D. Ramirez. We’re pretty sure our audience will like the taste of it. Tune in to the Spacemusic podcast upcoming saturday september 25th 2010 for a party episode with Underworld! ~TC
